I've had AppleTV for about a month now and I love it. There are little niggles that I'd love to see addressed - Maybe if enough folks participate in this thread, somebody will pay attention.
Here are some of my suggestions:
SCREEN SAVER I: When the screen saver is active, display the "Now Playing" information as a part of it. When a song changes now, the info is displayed for only a few seconds - After that the only was to ID what's playing is to press the UP/DOWN buttons on the remote, which stops the screen saver.
SCREEN SAVER II: Allow for a more detailed selection of photo folders - Allow sub-folder selection.
SOURCE SELECTION: Keep the most recent source iTunes library data stored on the AppleTV's hard drive and sync in the background. I have over 13,500 songs on iTunes, and when I have to change sources, my library takes up to 3 minutes to load.
NAVIGATION: Don't stop playing music if I accidentally "menu-out" of MUSIC. Sometimes AppleTV is slow to respond to remote commands and it's easy to "back out" too far.
SEARCH: Add an alpha-numeric search capability for music - You did it for YouTUBE, do it for my library.

  • I am "unable to sign in" to Youtube from my new appletv - suggestions?

    I Am trying to set up my new apple tv - in particular - I am trying to watch youtube - but am "unable to sign in" - "this account cannot be used with apple tv - " try again using a different account" - I am not sure sure what this means nor am I sure what to do to get a different account - suggestions greatly appreciated - thanks from London, Canada

    This happened once to me, I did a factory reset on my ATV3 and it worked for me.

    Assuming you are using a gmail account, do you use the 2 step verification? If so you need to create an app specific password to use when logging into youtube on the ATV.

  • On the menu bar the help button won't open a selected topic

    One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
    If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
    Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
    Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons

  • Ipad w/apple tv in the classroom

    I have my ipad connected to Apple TV which is connected to a projector via VGA converter. I need to also connect to some type of speakers to be able to use in my classroom. Anyone know what my best/cheapest options are?

  • I Just Did the Exam 1Z0-047 - What's Next?

    I just passed my first (Internationally Recognized) Oracle exam 1Z0-047. Hmmm, i got %83. I think its good since its my first exam, i felt i could make it better up to %90+. The paper shows 9 bullet points of topics that i may show review. The topics they mentioned i know it really well. Shall i take the exam again? I don't think its a big deal probably %83 is good. Anyway, the exam center gave me a printed paper of my total score. They said Oracle will send another Certification to my address. Which Certification is official? The one i have been given by the exam center is a printed cert (black and point). Which one should i show to the employers?
    I'm happy as well as sad because i knew the mistakes i made are silly (i wish to rid of the bullet points argghhhh) + i did the exam after having at least 3 months college hands on experience.

    Although the suggested topics are a guide dont dwell on them too much; if you feel you know them ell enough thats fine; move on. Because of the effects of small samples sizes on individual topics these can easily become skewed.

    Keep both. 1z0-047 is an exam with fulfills a certification requirement so you get a success pack including a certificate; and thats even more important. Thats the best one to show to your employer; but it may be 8 / 10 weeks beforeyou received it. (NB: Oracle does not send a copy of your exam report - they will only send certificates - however there might be changes when they move to Prometric).

  • Interesting 'problem' after moving the WSUS database

    Firstly I have checked the suggested topics but none of them exactly describe the problem I have encountered.

    Okay, I have a SBS2011 server running on an HP Proliant server.  The server has been dunning flawlessly for the last 2+ years. At deployment the WSUS content was initially located on the D drive. Free space on the C drive has dropped to 16GB and
    as a precaution I decided to move the WSUS DB to the D drive too.  I stopped the necessary  ISS Admin, Update and WWW services and proceeded, using  the SQL server management studio, to detach the DB, I moved (copy & paste) the DB to the
    new disk and attached it the the SQL SMS.  Nothing seemed to go wrong there, however, when opening the SBS console I am missing half of my information.  The face that the necessary icons are there leads me to believe that the service is functioning
    but just missing the computer info. If I click on a computer icon I can see the correct computer name. 
    Is there any way to fix this without deleting and reinstalling the entire WSUS service?

  • No CS Review in Premiere Cs 5.02

    Hi all,
    we just wanted to create a CS Review from a Premiere Pro Project, but we have no "export" to review as adobe described in the help text.
    We are registered and could start CS Live from Premiere Pro, our Account is working. But we still cant create a new review from a  premiere pro  5.0.2 project.
    Is there something to customize in PPRO which we didnt ?

    Found Colins tipp in your suggested Topic and it worked for me:
              Use the Learn More option to go online to the CS Review subsite and sign in with your Adobe ID. Go to the CS Review main section.
    Back in Premiere, click the Sign In option at the top of the CS Live option list; sign in.
    Close Premiere.
    Restart Premiere. You should now have CS Review Home and Create New Review under the CS Review option, and there will be a new option under Window > Extension called CS Review. That's the actual review window.
    Thanks to any for your quick imput. Saved me realy lot of time !!!!!!!

  • CS Review in InDesign CS 5 causing Blue Screen

    Everytime I try to run the CS Review extension in InDesign CS 5, it causes my computer to blue screen. I'm on Windows 7 Professional, 64bit system. Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz. 8 GB of Ram. Is this happening to anyone else? I've made sure all updates are current AND i've uninstalled and re-installed inDesign.

  • CAD and FrameMaker

    The question of getting CAD/CAM drawings into FrameMaker pops up regularly in the FrameMaker forum. If you have anything to add, please visit the "FAQ Corrections and Suggestions" topic and post your thoughts there.

    There are a number of routes to go in presenting CAD drawings in FM.
    Directly importing a DWG, DXF, or IGES format isn't the best route, since
    the filters leave a lot to be desired, but in a pinch or if that's all
    you've got, then...
    (Most of this info applies to Wintel platforms.)
    Other export/output formats from various CAD packages usually allow HPGL
    and CGM formats. These are also supported import filters into FM. The CGM (and IGES) filter has actually two flavours and you have a bit of
    preference set-up that can be tweaked (see the FM Filters manual and look
    in the \filters folder at some of the .ini or .prf files). Typically you'll find that most of the lines import too fine and there may not be visual differentiation between different line styles (pens). Also, depending upon the version and export format from the CAD package, fills may consist of hundreds/thousands of vector strokes, rather than as truly filled polygons. It can be a crapshoot with how the text/fonts display and map in your drawing as well.
    For a quick&dirty, you may consider trying copy&paste from the CAD application into FM. This always creates a WMF graphic, regardless of
    whether you simply paste or link or embed. WMF is platform specific and
    doesn't always play nice in a postscript publishing environment.
    There is a tool called BetterWMF from Furix that gives you some more control over what elements to copy and how to map some of them:

    The best route (in terms of output quality when going to press and
    cross-platform compatibility) is to get an EPS format file to import into
    FM. There are several ways to get this. The one you choose will depend upon
    your resources, how often you need to do this and the presentation quality
    of the drawing that you're trying to achieve.
    If the DXF/DWG/IGES/CGM/HPGL filters don't provide sufficient quality for
    your needs, the first thing to try is the native EPS export of the
    application - usually mediocre.
    The next level to try would be to print/output to the Distiller printer and create a PDF. From the PDF you can crop and export via Acrobat/Exchange an
    EPS for FM. (Note: importing the PDF isn't that great of an option since FM
    has to internally convert the PDF to an EPS anyway. You're just making it
    do a lot more work and can mess things up if the switch in the maker.ini
    file isn't set properly.) However, fonts, line thickness, fills, and
    colouration may not be optimal for publication. There is some tweaking that can be done to the graphics content of a PDF if you use a tool such as PitStopPro from Enfocus at:

    There's another set of tools for bringing DWG/DXF drawings into Illustrator so that you can edit/tweak there and produce an EPS that way. Check out AppliCraft's CADgate at:

    Other translation software packages that will get your DWG/DXF files into a
    format that can be imported into other drawing applications for further
    tweaking or directly into FM are:

    http://www.kandusoftware.com (they also have a "Lite" version that supports fewer filters, but will get you an Illustrator format file).

    Also check out the import filters of some of the more popular drawing
    packages that you may already have - these also support various
    dwg/dxf/hpgl/cgm levels of import with various degrees of success.
    Then there's the Cad "publisher" software, such as John Walker's AutoSet
    CadPublisher at:

    which is the high-end (not necessarily in cost, but rather in quality), giving you total control over most features and how they will map on output (i.e. input into FM via EPS). This is the option if you want a "published" look to the CAD drawing.
    Finally, if you want to be able to edit your CAD drawing inside of FM,
    using FM's drawing tools, you can check out Square One's ps2vector tool

  • RoboHelp 7 crashes when creating new project with files from VSS

    RoboHelp crashes when I create a new project and choose to get existing files from Visual Source Safe to load into the project.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem or a suggestion as to why this may be happening?  I'm attaching the errors associated with the crashing.
    Also, we have a very large Help system (985 topics) which compiles into a 46 MB chm file.  Is there a maximum suggested topic size (per topic) and a maximum suggested number of topics per project?  Could this be part of the reason RoboHelp is crashing?  We've always had a large Help system since we started using RoboHelp several years ago but the crashing is a more recent problem.

    I had the same issue then I found out all you have to do is to set the default view to List before opening any previous or new project and it worked, credit goes to this user below who found the solution.

    I was able to resolve by workaround:
    1. Closed all open applications
    2. relaunch Finder
    3. run  sudo find / -name ".DS_Store"  -exec rm {} \;
    4. this removes all  .DS_Store old files on the computer
    5. launch finder and set default view to "LIST VIEW" as shown here:http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/ss/Setting-Finder-Views-For-Folders-And-Su b-Folders_2.htm
    5. rerun the offending application and file chooser works

  • Belle FP2 QWERTY

    I updated my Nokia 701 yesterday. Very pleased with the new swipe to unlock and the refreshed music player. However, the new QWERTY (copied from Opera Mini), is not as functional as the old one.
    With the old one, I could quickly access the '?' by simply tapping the uppercase button. Only the '!' required going to the symbols page. The new layout does not have such quick access to the '?'. When using the uppercase button, the '.' and ',' stay the same. No '?' available there.
    So my suggestion is this: Make the '.' and ',' change to '?' and '!' when in uppercase mode. Will really improve the functionality of typing chat messages.

    And on the suggestions topic, here are two more:
    1. Add WhatsApp new message notifications in the drop-down menu, similar to how new SMS's are shown there.
    2. Add a 5th button at the bottom of the homescreen to quickly pop-up the task manager (as is available through purchase of 3rd party software). Would save a lot of time by simply pressing this button, than holding the menu button for a few seconds.

  • Home media server for mac, that you can also get to remotely.  Any ideas?  I am out of space on my macbook pro hard drive and appletv.  Need some sort of media server for delivery to macs, ipods, ipads, etc.  Any suggestions?

    I have been using my macbook pro as a home media server, hosting most content on the macbook with ipod touch, ipads, and appletv streaming/sharing content.  I have run out of space on both the macbook pro and the apple tv and am looking to moving the content to a home media server.  Any thoughts/suggestions?  I'd like something that I can access remotely too.  I have an old slingbox and also have a static IP address.
    Any thoughts/suggestions would be most welcome!

    Don't worry I've sorted it! I just had to turn off Reminders as well in iCloud. Calendar then worked fine, even when I turned Calendar and Reminders back on.

  • AppleTV no longer appearing in iTunes.  Suggestions?

    Let me start off this post by saying that I work as a computer programmer, so I'm not unfamiliar with following support guides, etc. So with that said, please don't tell me to follow Apple Support for this, as I've done every single step out there.
    I have a new AppleTV connected to my TV via HDMI. Everything was up and running just fine, I had over 100 gigs of music synced up to it, and then, after the latest iTunes 7.3 upgrade, it stopped recognising the device.
    I have tried everything at this point, short of completely reinstalling the OS.
    Closed & reopened iTunes, check.
    Reinstall iTunes, check.
    Restart computer, check.
    Reboot router, check.
    Try a different router, check.
    Force DHCP release & renew, check.
    Restore ATV to factory spec, check.
    Pick new iTunes library, check.
    Turn on port forwarding for UDP 5353, etc., check.
    Place computer in DMZ, turn off all anti-virus & firewalls, check.
    It just never shows up.
    ATV gets on my network just fine, I can watch YouTube videos & movie trailers without a hitch, I've tried resyncing to a new iTunes library, etc., it simply doesn't work.
    The only thing that has changed is iTunes, and since I cannot find an older copy, I can't try an older version to see if it appears in iTunes prior to 7.3.2 again.
    Any suggestions? I am simply out of ideas and have spent hours trying to figure this out. I'm at the point where I'm about to either defenestrate it or sell it on eBay.

    I saw that thread previously, unfortunately it didn't help me.
    When I go to the Sources menu on ATV, my options are "Connect to new iTunes" and "Syncing". If I select the latter, per your instructions from AppleCare, the only option I get is, "Turn On Syncing". If I select that, I get a new passcode to enter into iTunes, but ATV never appears in iTunes to enter in that code.
    I do not have "Change iTunes Library" as an option.
    Furthermore, the ATV tab under iTunes Preferences does not have an ATV listed in the "The following ATVS are allowed to connect to iTunes" menu.
    I am at my wits end with this device, I simply haven't the patience for trying every possible combination of activities to try and make this work.
    Anyone interested in a 160 GB AppleTV?
