AppleTV - Time Capsule - MacBook Pro

I am using Time Capsule as a wireless router. ATV connects to Time Capsule wirelessly with no problem and my MacBook Pro connects wirelessly to Time Capsule with no problem either. Problem is, I cannot see ATV in iTunes devices list in wireless mode. If I connect an ethernet cable between my MacBook and the Time Capsule and leave ATV wireless, everything works perfectly and ATV appears in iTunes devices menu. The moment I go wireless on the MacBook, no ATV in iTunes but Time Capsule still connects to the MacBook and ATV.
Any ideas?

I would bother trying too many. Channel 11 is used by many wifi manufacturers as their default, so it might be worth giving that one a miss, Channel 12 and 13 aren't available in some locations so you might want to avoid those too. But generally any of the networks your tv can see could be set up on any of the channels.
Are you using the TC as your DHCP server or do you have another router.

I have not found a long-term solution (fix), but in my case the volume where the Time Machine backup should occur usually is mounted on the desktop but not as a shared volume (incidated as a drive with the people holding hands superimposed over the drive icon). If I drag the drive to the trash (unmount it), the next time Time Machine is scheduled to run, it completes successfully.

  • Time Capsule + MacBook Pro

So i got a MBP and set it up last night. also got the time capsule and configured it. It seemed to be working, my Dell laptop recognized the wireless network and connected. But my Mac was not configured for that network (when i booted up, i configured it for the old wireless so that I could get any updates since I didn't have the capsule set up yet).
anyways, i tried configuring the macbook and it won't connect now. the time capsule just blinks amber, and never goes green. if i plug into it via ethernet, i have internet.
    any ideas?

Just run Time Machine on the desktop, using the Time Capsule as the "Select Disk" target.

  • Every time my MacBook Pro is put to sleep, it will not connect to the internet when reopened unless diagnostic assistant is performed. Ridiculous!

Every time my MacBook Pro is put to sleep, it will not connect to the internet upon reopening unless I perform diagnostic assistant.

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. Reinstall OS X.

  • Boot up time of MacBook Pro 13" 2.5GHz i5 vs MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display with 2.4GHz i5

    Hello
    Does anyone know
"the boot up time of MacBook Pro 13" 2.5GHz i5 vs MacBook Pro 13" with Retina display with 2.4GHz i5?"
    Thanks

    A bit simplifying :
there are two parts in boot process - one-before spinning thing, other - spinning thing to desktop.
First part is hardware inits, you can not speed it up. It is for sure longer for your MBP than for her - its normal, more hardware and it is more sophisticated so longer init.
Second part depends on HD (SSD) speed.
Say so - I have M4 SSD and second part is 1 to 2 spins until login window. Should be more or less same for you.
If it is not so - probably something is not good with filesystem and some config files, most probably due to cloning instead of install. Reboot from recovery, repair drive (first - drive as a whole, second - boot partition), then reboot permissions. reboot two times as normal. see what'll happen with timing.

  • How to connect my time capsule & macbook to the internet?

I purchased a Time Capsule last weekend to back up all my photos etc.  I was able to set up the Time Capsule with Airport Utility and now have my home network set up, I can easily get everything I need on my Macbook Pro (mid 2009, Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5 if that helps?) EXCEPT I can't get the time capsule to connect to the internet.  For some reason whenever I want to access my pictures or the time capsule, I have to connect to the wireless network but if I want to connect to the internet I have to reconnect to my old wireless network.  I have tried everything but just can't get it to work correctly! The Time Capsule light has only ever flashed orange at me...

time capsule should be in bridge mode and plugged into your main router so it is part of the existing network.
Bridge on you Lion version is easy as you can still download and install a real utility.

  • Time Machine - MacBook Pro works, MacBook doesn't

Last night, in the middle of a Time Machine backup to our 500 GB Time Capsule, my wife's MacBook said the backup failed.
Today, I tried a manual backup by saying "Back up now" in the menu bar, and the thing hung at "Preparing". So I restarted the MacBook and tried again.
This time, the backup got past "Preparing", but got as far as "74MB of 74MB" before hanging. Using Get Info on the disk image on the Time Capsule showed that there were no longer any writes being made to the Time Capsule, but Activity Monitor showed that the MacBook was still acting as though it was sending packets to the Time Capsule.
Restarted the MacBook, tried again. This time, the fans spun up to maximum on the MacBook, and the backup still didn't complete.
I trashed the Time Machine preferences in Library/Preferences, restarted the MacBook again, and behold, the backup to the Time Capsule finally completed.
Now the MacBook has an entirely different problem - Time Machine takes upwards of 20 minutes to launch, if it will launch at all, and the MacBook's fans spin like crazy while trying to launch it. The Finder just says "Connecting to backup volume". I've checked Console to see if it has any helpful information, but it doesn't tell me anything.
I've also tried restarting the Time Capsule itself, and that did nothing.
My MacBook Pro works just fine with the Time Capsule, and Time Machine launches with barely a hiccup. My wife's MacBook simply does not want to play nice, though, and I'm out of ideas.

Getting the same issues on an iMac with a 1TB Time Capsule. All working OK for a month or so, then it hung at "Preparing" and I just get "connecting to backup volume" when trying to open Time Machine. Cannot get to backup or allow me to enter Time Machine at all.
Furthermore, I have an extended network with an Airport Express which has also gone down, although the Time Capsule is still working effectively as a wireless router itself.
Tried restarting both Time Capsule and iMac with no success.
Didn't try trashing preferences in Library/Preferences yet...
Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • How do I move photos from AppleTV to my MacBook Pro?

My house was recently broken into and everything taken except the Apple TV.
I have replaced my MacBook Pro but many photos were lost. The photos remain on my AppleTV as a screensaver however I am not sure the best way to take them back off the AppleTV and am cautious of losing them.
A friend has sugested they should be available through Photostream.
The AppleTV is a generation 2 (black) so I don't think it has storage.
    Any ideas would be great??
    Thanks!

Sorry to hear of your situation. If you had photo stream previously setup they may be available once you enable it through iPhoto on your new computer (or via an IOS device).
Keep in mind the photo stream stores up to 1,000 photos for the past 30 days so if they are older that is probably not an option.
The ATV caches photos tempoarily for the screensaver but the flash drive is not accessible and they can be easily flushed.

  • Stereo changes to bluetooth every time my macbook pro turns on

Hi, I just got a macbook pro, my first mac. I paired it with my onkyo receiver and works great but now every time I turn or wake up my macbook my receiver automatically switches to bluethooth. Also I can't pair with my phone, it only wants the macbook. Is there a way to only turn on the bluetooth on my macbook if I'm streaming music? Is there more settings for bluetooth?

    Issue resolved with Mavericks update...

  • Time Machine (Macbook Pro fixed, TM issue)

I recently brought my Macbook Pro in for repair (new logic board and optical drive).  I got it back and those issues were solved.  However, when I went to run Time Machine I recieved the message seen here (Snow Leopard Version):  http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/B5.html
It asked if I wanted to "Create New Backup" or "Re-use Old Backup."  I was told to Create New... and selected that option.
A message popped up and said that I did not have enough room on my external hard drive (used for Time Machine).  This made sence to me seeing as how I've stored many back ups on this drive.  I then moved all the backups to the Trash (on desktop).  The drive is supposidly empty, but I still recieve the message saying that there is not enough space on it when I attempt to run Time Machine.
When I unplug the external (Time Machine) drive, the Trash can is empty.  If I plug the drive back in, the Trash is full again (containing all the back ups).  I've tried to "Empty Trash" but after 1 hrs. time, it was still "preparing to empty trash."
I am concerned because my data may not be backed up and I want this issue resolved.
Any thoughts suggestions are appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

  • Routing PC Time Capsule Macbook

I have one PC machine (with two NICs), Macbook and Time Capsule. First NIC I use for internet and also I share the connection with NIC 2 which have IP 192.168.0.1. This NIC is connected to Time capsule, which have settings Connection sharing: Share a public IP address and IP 192.168.0.132. With macbook I am connecting to Time Capsule's interface 10.0.0.1 via Wifi with IP 10.0.0.2. Everything is working without problems even internet on macbook. I am able to ping macbook from PC but not backwards. I really don't understand where can be problem.. also I have added route in windows:
    route add 10.0.0.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.132
I want to mount macbook disk to windows. There is easier way of course for example to make Time Capsule as a bridge but I want to know why this isn't working..
does anyone have experiences with routing?

yes, but I tried to use telnet from windows machine to access SSH on mac if there is any response but nothing.. I have also created exception in *Internet > NAT > Configure Port Mappings* for port 22 on IP of my Mac but still can't access port 22 from windows machine. What else could be the problem? Now I really have no idea.. I also turned off firewall on mac, SSH daemon is running and accessible from local host.. I am getting desperate

  • Long shut-down time on MacBook Pro Retina 2013

I have my MacBook Pro Retina, with Mavericks running. It's the latest MBP Retina from Apple. Brand new, with all updates from Apple (Mavericks 10.9.1). I disconnected all USB-devices etc. But the shut-down and restart time is way to long. I measured about 48 seconds. The spinning wheel (which shows at the shut-down) moves really slow. I have done PRAM-reset and also used the Disk Utility to repair permissions. Nothing helped, so I wonder, what could it be? I checked here in the ASC other thread concerning the same problems, but with older MacBook Pro Retina models and OS X prior to Mavericks. So seems, this issue is still consistent… Appreciate any help and also eventually Apple could investi

Also I investigated a little bit with the Console app. When shutting down, the Mac tries to access some read and write privileges, but can't do that. This problem seems to have something to do with the Sandbox…
    29.12.13 01:04:22,000 kernel[0]: Sandbox: xcscredd(138) deny file-read-metadata /Users
So who knows that and what ist the xcscredd(138) app and why does it try to access my Users folder?

  • Slow Shut Down Time For Macbook Pro Retina Snow Leapord

Hello, I was hoping somoene could help me with the following problems.
I have brand new Macbook Pro Retina, 15inch, 16G RAM, 500G of SSD, running Mountain Lion, and lots of professional recording software. My macbook frequently shuts down after 30 seconds, that wonderful grey wheel spinning in the center of the screen as if it were an old PC.
I've contacted apple frequently. They check to see that I've repaired disk permission, they reset...the RAM i believe, they ask if i shut down all the programs. Even through doing all of this, usually my macbook takes 30 seconds to shut down. Sometimes it takes only 5, which is how it usually should be. ANd this occurence seems to be inconsistent with the apps I use. Sometimes it takes long to shutdown when i've barely used a thing. Other times it shuts down immediately when i've used a lot of different programs at once. So there's no constant.
The apple boys suggest reformatting the computer to make sure it isn't a hardware issue. I refuse to accept that after only 3 months of use I already have to reformat everything. It's not the most enjoyable experience because I'd have to reinstal all my audio software despite Time Machine's magic tricks. Any suggestions?
Here is a link I've found on the matter: http://thecustomizewindows.com/2013/02/fix-mountain-lion-slow-shut-down-time/

These terminal commands decrease the excecution time of a process that has caused slow shutdown times for many users. This resolved my slow shutdowns. IF you are comfortable using terminal you can give them a shot, but be VERY careful using terminal.
These terminal commands should also fix the problem then and kill the services after 2 seconds:
    Code:
sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.coreservices.appleevents.plist  sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.coreservices.appleevents ExitTimeOut -int 2  sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.coreservices.appleevents.plist

  • How do I reinstall lion using time machine (Macbook Pro mid-2009)?

I am going to replace my hard drive (and add RAM) on my Macbook Pro (mid-2009) myself. I have Lion (10.7.4) currently, and have backed up via time machine on an external drive. I don't have Lion on a usb, and from what I read, Lion Recovery via internet isn't applicable for my macbook (pre 2010). Is the time machine backup a bootable drive? If so, then am I all good so long as my backup is completed prior to replacing the hard drive? If not, how do I create a bootable drive so I can get back to "normal"?
    Thanks! :-)

To determine if your Time Machine backup has a Recovery HD on it restart the computer. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears. A Recovery HD option should appear on your Time Machine backup drive. Select it and click on the arrow button below the icon. If all is well your machine should boot into the Recovery HD utilities screen.
If all is well then after you replace your drive boot from the Time Machine Recovery HD. Start by:
    Drive Preparation for Lion
    1.  Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is an entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After finishing formatting quit DU and return to the main menu. Select the option to Restore from a Time Machine backup then click on the Continue button.
