AppleWorks 6.2.9 and my MP3 files - help

Hi,
A little background information. I am a vinyl (singles) record collector. I'm making a database for my record collection, using AppleWorks 6.2.9 Each database record will include text and two MP3 audio files, whereby, the student, hobbyist, etc. can hear both sides of the record in its entirety. I use a Mac Pro OS 10.5.8 (Leopard). I make audio files using Amadeus Pro 1.5.4
The Standard Layout is fine. I customized the size and placement of the various fields. The Standard Layout consisted of 15 named fields: 3 field types had pop-up menus, the other 12 field types were text. No additional layouts were necessary. Saved on the desktop were two, named MP3 audio files made from Amadeus Pro. Separately, the two MP3 audio file icons were dragged from the desktop and dropped within the body of database record #1. The audio files played flawlessly in Layout Mode. They do not play in Browse Mode. That's o.k. I completed my 1st database record without a hitch.
I am ready for database record #2. I choose File > New Record “THE PROBLEM” Surprise, the MP3 audio file icons in database record #1, now appeared in database record #2. They played fine, but they shouldn't be there. I deleted them. “MORE PROBLEM” When I deleted them from database record #2, they were also deleted from database record #1. The text information was not affected. The layout was not affected. I even tried File > Duplicate Record. No luck.
Any ideas or thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Carl,
You did not "delete them from database record #2;" you deleted them from the Layout on which the contents of Records 1 and 2 were displayed. They were never part of either record.
Anything you put into an AppleWorks DB Layout appears in every record. If you saw the links to the files in Layout mode, then those links were placed in the Layout. The contents of any record do not appear in Layout mode—only the contents of the 'form' used to display the databases records.
If you want something to appear only in a single record, it must be placed into a Field. The Field Frame is placed in the Layout, and the contents of that field in each record display with the record when in Browse mode.
Memory tells me that active links cannot be displayed (as active links) in a database record. you can display the text, but the link will not be 'live.'

My suggestion to use the smart playlist was more along the lines of making one list with rules to show everything in your library as long as it was kind "mpeg" (= mp3).
Smart playlists cannot be edited manually, only by changing the rules. You can use them as the basis for another smart playlist though.
There is added overhead to using smart playlists, so don't go overboard.

Why cant i drag and drop mp3 files into my itunes library in itunes 11.1.1?

I recently lost a hard drive with most of my music on it. i removed and reinstalled itunes and set it to work on my other hard drive. i was able to drag and drop mp3 files that i had and put them into my library. After the latest updates, now it only gives my the cirlcle with the slash though it when i try, not sure what changed

did you manage to fix your problem.
i tunes 6 used to be great for me but i upgraded to 7 which wiped my i tunes and ipod. im back to ver 6 now but i cant drag files from my c drive to any playlists

Blackbery Link - browse pc folders and copy mp3 files not in music folder

Hello to all of you
I have music archives in different drives and pendrives
It is not intuhitive at all how to browse local PC drives and or PC folders to select and copy single or many .mp3 files from the PC to the BlackBerry device.
Please don't tell me that the silly solution is to move the mp3 files to the windows music folder.
Additionally, i find really against an user friendly approach the BlackBerry Link in the music section. It doesn't allow to show the mp3 files names and use, manage and browse .mp3 files by their name, I see only
- All the music
- Album
- Artists
- Genres
- Playlists
well,
- I have so many .mp3 files
- they don't have all the mp3 tags
- I see only an unfinished list which doesn't allow me to select the file I need, and I must scroll all of them every time
A TOTAL NO SENSE in my personal opinion
Anyway , from BalckBerry Link and from PC side, how to select one single mp3 file, QUICKLY, and copy it inside the BlackBerry device in the music folder?

Yes CRAZY!!! It is confirmed,
trying to find a solution to this crazy behavior, I've turned to documents side.
I've added my mysic folder to the documents and TA-DAAAH! The .mp3 files don't show!!!
On the right panel a big string says "The folder doesn't contain supported files"!!!
Well, looks like that BlackBerry Link leaks like the OS 10
Anyway, if you can provide a solution that allows to copy mp3 files ID3-less (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID3), mean that none of the ID3 has been filled, thank you so much in advance.
To BB Link developers, think about allow users to tranfer files as files and not as you arbitrary want, thank you.

I can't drag and drop mp3 files directly to my shuffle

i have a ipod shuffle (2nd gen). i cant drag and drop mp3 files via itunes. it only allows me to put them into library and then sync it. but i dont want to sync, i just want to put mp3s directly into shuffle.

with my old ipod (ipod nano 1st gen) i could easily drag and drop my mp3s from windows explorer to ipod by using itunes. is it itunes new version problem so that i couldnt drag and drop manually, or ipod shuffle problem.

Downloaded Snow Leopard and now mp3 files won't play or open.. help!

Once I updated my system to Snow Leopard, my downloaded mp3 files won't transfer to iTunes or even play in general, they used to automatically download into my iTunes. Is there a specific setting I need to change?

What happens when you try to play in iTunes? Do you get any error messages? Can you play the mp3s in Quicktime or VLC?
If you want iTunes to play your mp3s, the setting for that is inside iTunes Preferences.
Have you tried repairing permissions and restarting your computer?

basily what im asking is. i have a itunes libery with all the right artist names and all the alubem covers i got from internet and sorted into playlist. Is there a way i can get itunes to change the actual mp3 files so that it has the right artist names and arwork after editing it on the libery. as atm all the mp3 files are have missing iformation and when i send a file to my mp3 player it does not have track names or artwork? i tried doing the concert ID3 tag but did not seem to make a difference and after ive done get info and edited it. it does not seem to change the mp3 files.
can anyone help?

"FILE NOT FOUND" KEEPS POPPING UP AND THE MP3 FILE IS MISSING?

I PULLED AN MP3 FILE FROM MY ITUNES LIBRARY THAT RUNS OFF MY EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE INTO A SESSION AND CHOPPED IT UP AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE! THEN I DRAGGED MY FILES OVER TO MY EXTERNAL HARDDRIVES TO FREE UP SPACE BUT DRUG THAT PARTICULAR PROJECT FOLDER BACK TO MY MACBOOK PRO AND WHEN I OPENED THE SESSION THE FILE NOT FOUND ERROR POPPED UP AND THE MP3 IS NOT IN PLAYBACK SESSION? THE PARTS I CUT UP ARE NOW GREY AND THE AUDIO BIN SHOWS THE NAME OF FILE BUT WITH AN ! AT THE END AND WILL NOT PLAY?????? WHAT DO I DO???? THE AUDIO FILE FOLDER FOR THAT PROJECT SHOWS THE MP3 FILE???

My itunes playback and transfered mp3 files are corrupted and sound garbled...***? All software is updated.

Recently my itunes player and sync mp3's play sped up and garbled. All software is updated
and all obvious logical attempts to fix it have failed. My files play fine on Media Player, and
burn fine using Nero. Problem's gotta be in itunes.

I've uploaded a new version of my DeDuper script which should be able to detect when the same file is on two different paths and act appropriately. The script preserves ratings, play counts and playlist membership and can recycle real duplicates while keeping hold of an original copy each duplicated track. See this thread for background, this post for detailed usage instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
Test with the duplicated tracks of a single album first just to get a feel for it. It can take some time to run as it makes 5 passes over the selection, so you'll need to be patient if you are not able to use it with the progress bar active. If it detects the possibility (as it will in your case) that two seemingly different paths point to the same file it will prompt you to confirm the correct path to the media folder. This should be the C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media one, please correct it if it detected the wrong folder before proceeding.

Importing and exporting mp3 files

I'm able to import mp3 files into iMovie and edit them but when I want to "share" this edited mp3 by exporting out of iMovie, it makes me save it with an .mov tag. I can't keep it as an mp3. This is a problem for me because when I play .mov files on my web site, it shows an entire black video screen instead of the little audio scroll bar I want with .mp3's. Any advice? Thanks

mp3's must be converted to AIFF format before they can be edited. So iMovie imports and converts the mp3 to AIFF. You then need to go to File>Share and choose Quicktime>Expert Settings and click the Share button. Then in the next dialog box choose Export>Sound to AIFF. Then to convert the file to mp3 import it into iTunes with MP3 set to your importing preference(iTunes>Preferences>Importing>MP3 encoder.
I'm trying to convert a movie into mobile phone format so I can display it on my mobile. My version of iMovie has the mobile 3G format to save to, but seems not to allow mp3 as an option for the audio, so the mobile, which requires mp3 for audio, shows the video and not the audio. Grant's trick above converts the audio OK, but leaves out the video. What can one do? Will upgrading to QuickTime Pro help? Is this another useful thing Apple have not bothered to do, just as they don't bother to include file transfer to mobiles (available for PCs in Mobile Phone Tools) in iSync?

Welcome to the forums.
You need to transfer your music using iTunes -- you plug your phone in and choose "sync" and it will transfer whatever music you tell it to. The best way is to create one or more playlists and choose these to transfer to the phone.
The phone itself can use bluetooth headsets, but you cannot transfer information this way. The phone itself will connect to the web via wi-fi but, once again, does not transfer this way.
Install the latest iTunes (7.5 or greater), attach your phone via the USB adapter provided (with or without the dock) and then sync it. Note: you will also need to first initialize it (nothing in the phone will work without first establishing phone service to whatever carrier you are using).

Need to restore and missing dbf file - help please

im in a desperate situation so any advice would be welcome.
im running Oracle 9.2.4.6 on aix. 5.2
2 weeks ago i added a dbf file to one of the tablespaces , as a symbolic link. Im almost certain that this dbf file has not been used as there was still lots of space in the tablespace.
ive had 3 disk crash on me - which means i have had to do a full recovey , and then use the archive logs to roll forward.
but i have now discovered that this new dbf has not been backuped up because its a symbolic link.
so i dont think im going to be able to open the database, or roll forward.
(im still restoring the files so not had a chance to try it yet)
the disk crash means i have lost disk files and the system files.
am i able to recover from here if i need to. ie rebuild indexes and system
any other ideas?

Symbolic link datafile is backedup, it does not matter how the file is created at the OS level as long as oracle can get to it.
Let me remove the tools_tmp.dbf entirely and try opening the db.

CS3 WONT ACCEPT MP3 FILES - HELP NEEDED.

Does anyone know why I cant add Mp3 files to PP, when I try adding one it says "File Format not supported", this never happened with PP 2.0.

Can't drag and drop MP3 files into GB since Snow Leopard upgrade

Not sure if this is a known issue but ever since I have upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6), I have only been able to import (drag & drop) some MP3's into a podcast project. For example, some files I was able to import before, no longer can be dragged and dropped to create a new track.
I've tried creating a new podcast project but thats not working either. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

that if you choose delete the prefernce files .plist/.cs and use "SAVE AS" vs "SAVE" the files I referred to above get saved when attempting to open th project again. I tried it and it seems to work for me now. I hope this helps others with the GB *"File Not Found"* dilemma in Leopard and Garageband V5.1
