Appleworks 6.2.9 install default is wrong

Newbie here..
I've tried to update Appleworks 6.0 with the 6.2.9 updater on my iMAC g3 Pismo with MAC OS X 10.3.9--but the installer quits with the message
"The default location can't be found. the install will be cancelled"
I've tried to find and read relevant posts but I stll don't understand what is going on here. Does this mean that the 6.0 isn't where it's supposed to be on my HD? Should i reinstall 6.0?

Welcome to Apple Discussions
Have you done a search for AppleWorks? If so, where is it? I don't recommend reinstalling until you know for sure you don't have AppleWorks installed. Having more than one installation of the same language version of AppleWorks can be very problematic. The second part of my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly, explains more.

  • Where is my AppleWorks 6 on my install disks?

    I bought a Mac Mini Power PC 2 1/2 years ago, and it came pre-installed with AppleWorks 6. I still have the document files I created from it saved in my archives. When my hard drive crashed, I got a new drive and reinstalled the software--but no AppleWorks. Am I missing something? It isn't listed among the programs for installing the bundled software. Help me out, please.

    The restore DVD included with the PPC Mac mini does allow you to reinstall specific programs, but AppleWorks is not included by default with a restore of the initial software. This is most likely due to the fact that AppleWorks is not a multi-lingual application & the installer doesn't "know" which language version you want. Insert the Install DVD, double-click on the install bundled software icon, click the arrow/triangle (if necessary) next to AppleWorks at the bottom of the list, check the box for the language you want, click Install (I think) & follow the directions.
    If that doesn't work, Apple has written two articles, Knowledge Base article 300316 on installing AppleWorks 6 & Knowledge Base article 61802 on restoring the software that came with your Mac.

    That was a long time ago. I don't even remember asking the question. I don't have that trouble at the moment.

  • Libreoffice Not Installing Default Language Pack

    I followed the Wiki and installed Libreoffice Calc and Writer. During the install I was prompted for my language (English UK), which I selected. However, this didn't install libreoffice-en-GB, so my install defaulted to something else. Everything worked when I installed the language pack, as the default language had been set correctly, but obviously didn't work without the correct language pack.
    Is this a bug?

    Just install libreoffice-en-GB if you don't get English as your default language and change it on language settings.
    by default Libre will be using Afrikaans.

    Hi ,
    Thanks for trying out FMS 4, but as you can see in the warnings, your linux distribution is not officially supported for FMS and hence there might be unknown issues blocking the proper installation. There are dependencies that might be missing on your distro.
    Anyways, as mentioned in the logs, did you try changing the ulimit settings  ?

  • Perl modules are being installed to the wrong root directory

    This is kind of a package, kind of an AUR question. I don't think it is the usual "upgrade to perl-5.20" issue; I've done lots of searching with no obvious mention of my issue.
    I have downloaded the PKGBUILDs for perl-tk (in extra) and perl-pdl (in AUR). When I run makepkg on them, the resultant package has the wrong root directory. For example, perl-pdl tries to install into
    /home/<username>/perl5/bin/
    rather than
    /usr/bin
    and the libraries want to go into
    /home/<username>/perl5/lib/perl5/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/PDL
    rather than something like
    /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/PDL
    I don't think I'm doing anything unusual with the build. For perl-pdl, I download the tarball from the AUR and untar it in ~/tmp. Cd to ~/tmp/perl-pdl and then run makepkg. The start of the build process says:

    It seems like the $pkgdir variable is screwed up, but non-perl AUR packages have installed just fine. Any pointers? Thanks.

    As usual I am probably too late to help. If you have local::lib installed and activated, it will override your destination directory when building packages. This is accomplished by setting environment variables. Joel hinted at this and you've seemed to fix them. Here is a decent list of them, mostly written by me I believe: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pe … _variables
    I've made tools that generate PKGBUILDs for perl modules and I always try to override these environment variables for just such an occasion. Entirely too much info on the subject is available at the wiki page above. Very few official PKGBUILDs will override these. Only the packages I used to maintain which retain my PKGBUILD will work for you. So... beware.

  • Paragraph styles all default to wrong character style

    So I set up a template and based all my character styles on my basic body copy. However, every new text box I create it defaults to the "character styles" to my section header color and sizing. I have to right click and "clear character styles" every single time. I've never had this happen before and cannot figure out how to fix it, it is such a PAIN!

    From your explanation, I suspect your use of Character Styles might need to be redirected to Paragraph Styles. But that is conjecture, so I apologize if I'm wrong. In any case, to solve your problem; with nothing selected, choose No Character Style in the Character Styles panel. That sets the default for new frames.

  • Default to wrong address

    The Mail system has memorized email addresses that are out of date or that I don't want to use. When I type in a name or group list, it defaults to the wrong address.
    In one case I have a group name in my address book that I cannot get it to default to and it consistently goes to one with similar words, but not even in the same order that is set up on another company's lists. This is even though I have not used that address in a year and I use the group from my address book a few times a week. In other instances those I've corresponded with have changed their email addresses, but the system keeps choosing the old one.
    How can I delete email addresses I don't want to ever use from "Mail's Memory"?

    Hello Margaret.
    The Mail.app stores all message recipients in the List of Previous Recipients in Mail.
    The Mail.app autofill feature pulls from the Address Book and the list of Previous Recipients in Mail.
    At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Window and select Previous Recipients.
    A previous recipient already entered in the Address Book will have a vCard icon to the left of the name or email address. You can remove a previous recipient from the list or add a previous recipient to the Address Book that is not already entered.
    Removing a previous recipient from the list has no effect on Address Book entries.

  • Mail defaulting to wrong account when replying

    I have my wife and my accounts both in Mail. Sometimes, when I do a reply, it defaults as coming from my wife's account instead of mine (even though the message was to me), which is super annoying.
    The details are this:
    - message comes addressed to both my wife and I (and several other people);
    - message is manually moved from my account folder to a folder I made for that topic;
    - maybe a few weeks later, I select that message and click "reply all";
    - I type up my reply and hit "send", expecting the Mail program to default to either:
       a) the account the message was originally sent to;
       b) the first account in the accounts list under Preferences;
       Either one would be my account, not my wife's.
    The problem is people reply (not "reply all") to my message and it goes to my wife's account, not mine, and I don't see it.
    How do I get Mail to default to use my account as the sender?
    Thanks!

    These are possible causes for an e-mail to end up in the wrong place:
    -additional shortnames in WGM
    -forward set in WGM
    -a .forward file in the user's mail directory
    -an alias in /etc/postfix/aliases
    -an alias in /etc/postfix/virtual
    -a sieve script
    -a bcc
    -a catchall account
    -an autoforward by the original recipient
    Hope I didn't miss any.
    You should check all these possibilities. If you still need help, post relevant log entries and the unmodified output of postconf -n

  • 8.1 Enterprise : dont install default apps, speed up first logon on domain?

    Looking to do the following on Windows 8.1 Enterprise (joined to domain)
    1) stop the "hi", "we're setting things up for you", "setting up apps" messages. Trying to deploy hundreds of tablets and first logon for each user to the tablets is SLOWWWW because 8.1 is taking all this time to setup apps
    we don't want and will never use. example (weather, people, skydrive, photos, maps, reading list, etc)
    2) if no way to stop the messages mentioned above, is there a way to set via group policy or other tweaks/modifications to not even install those default apps in (1)??

    Hi,
    You can try to remove the built-in Windows 8.1 applications when creating a Windows 8.1 image, then deploy Windows 8.1.

  • .bin extension defaults to wrong action and is not listed in options applications tab. I can't change the action.

    I recently installed VLC player and it has overtaken my system.
    When I click on .bin (ext) files in a Firefox browser window, the default action is now listed as "VLC.bin (default)" and nothing I do can change it. I want the default action to be to download the file and I would like to remove any option related to VLC, since no .bin file should ever be associated with that program.
    There is no listing for a .bin extension for VLC (or any other program, for that matter*) in the Options/Applications tab, nor is VLC player the default action for anything listed except .wav files.
    I have tried the following:
    1. searched the options/applications tab but found nothing.
    2. searched "about:config" for any entries with "bin", ".bin", or "vlc" (one at a time) and found nothing.
    3. searched the registry for bin extension entries. I found one:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.bin\OpenWithProgids]
    "bin_auto_file"=hex(0):
    "VLC.bin"=hex(0):
    I deleted the key and rebooted. No change.
    4. Double checked [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\.. Gabest and Mozilla keys for anything that could be causing this behavior.
    Found nothing.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    *As far as I can tell. However, the applications tab cuts off many of the extension names and the column cannot be extended, so I can't be certain. VLC added 34 extensions to the list (!), most of which default to using the Quicktime plugin 7.6.8.

    Thanks jscher2000, I tried your suggestion, but no joy (as expected). None of the extensions were .bin, and in fact, I can't find a single listing for handling the .bin extension in the entire (unfiltered) list.
    That's why I'm so confused. Where is Firefox getting the name "VLC.bin (default)" from in the first place?
    cor-el, I checked out the link that you posted.
    I don't have an entry for "browser.download.pluginOverrideTypes" and the entry "plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types" was empty (default setting).
    My bad, but I forgot to mention in my first post that I had also tried renaming the mimetypes.rdf file in my "Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxx.default\" to .old to no avail.
    Firefox created a new, almost empty file, but it didn't change the behavior for .bin files. I removed the new file and put the old file back in place after determining that clearing the file did not help, since I am otherwise happy with my current file-type options.
    However, since the option to "Always perform this action" is grayed-out, I am looking into the possibility that the website is sending a misconfigured MIME type or is assigning "Content-Disposition: attachment" to the download. What's odd, though, is that I've never had problems getting binary files from the site in the past, and the problem started when the VLC player was installed.
    I'll post back after I check into the server header data.

  • Bridge,( Installed, Default .jpg viewer), doesn't open by default jpg files.

    I have Adobe Bridge installed and set as my default image viewer including .jpg's. It appears in programs list and as default image browser. I have some jpegs, however that a friend sent me that won't launch Bridge when selected. Their extensions are DSC###.jpg.
    When selected, Windows viewer is launched. When file association is promted, Bridge does not appear in the program list, even when a deeper search in the Adobe file is performed. The images appear and open properly IN Bridge, but not by default when their file is selected outside of Bridge. Bridge appears in file association for other .jpgs. There doesn't seem to be a file extension DSC listed ( I didn't think it would be).
    What Gives? (Win7 ultimate, Adobe CS5)
    TY in advance!

    Perhaps it is a matter of semantics.  Bridge is not a separate program, so it will not be listed as the default program to open image but listed as CS5 (don't have any of those programs on this laptop, and out of town).  It is strictly a browser so technically the images do not open within it.  You can view the image but to open it it will be in the parent program Photoshop or one of the other in a suite.
    Adobe is quite particular on images.  Some images just will not open in PS.  Then the best bet is to open in a program like Infanview and then use "save as" to save without imperfections.
    Quicktime is the default program to open many files in Bridge, and is necessary with certain file formats.
    If I am not getting to the heart of your issue I don't mean to dance around it, just not fully comprehend it.

  • Leopard install default permissions: Custom access

    Hello,
    I am a very new mac user. Only bought my first iMac 1 month ago. I really liked the experience so far.
    I recently upgraded to Leopard, and i had no problems at all (no blue screens, or locked users).
    The problem i am going through right now, is about user permissions.
    If i do 'Get Info' of my primary hard drive (the one Leopard is installed on), i get 'You have custom access'. I was expecting 'You can read & write'.
    I've read a lot about these permissions. I tried a lot of things but nothing worked for me.
    To be exact: i am using a leopard installation now, which has been installed from an empty hard drive (before the installation started, i erased everything. Just to make sure there is no conflict with the previous version, tiger).
    I've upgraded from tiger, clean installs, and fresh installs (like the one i am using now) all to get the same situation. I really hope this is not intended.
    Seen as I am a administrator, i really like to control where i want to write.
    I've tried the following:
    -i used Tinkertool System to change ACL's. Finally i got the '/' to show me 'read and write' but i had to change the ACL for every file manually, and at a certain moment i couldn't start my system preferences.
    -i tried the 'chown -R -N'. Didn't change a thing.
    -i tried the 'chown -a# 0 username' (username is babyCreative). Got a message telling me 'No ACL present'...
    Now i am working on a fresh format (so the permissions are still the ones, set by default). I can actually do the work i need to do, but i don't feel very 'okay' with this permissions-situation.
    PS: what really bothers me is the following: when launching leopard for the first time, and checking those permissions IMMEDIATELY, it tells me 'Read and write'. Only later on, all of a sudden, it changes into 'Custom access'. (right now it already is 'read only, yet i am copying files on it)...
    Is there somebody that can help me out with this?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    (excuse my bad english ;))

    This might be me turning crazy... but right now... My permissions on the primary drive have changed again... Permissions are now 'Read and write'.
    when i check out the owner of the drive, i see 'root' is the owner of the primary drive.
    I suspected to see my username there...
    Anyway: right now my permissions seem to be okay... Will evaluate this during a few days, and post the outcome here...
    (i feel pretty bad now: been wasting days to this... Only now realizing the following: patience is a virtue... (so far))
    thx for you reply though

  • Elements Organizer defaults to wrong alternative editor choice. How do I change it?

    I have Photoshop Elements 11, CS 6 and Lightroom installed on my PC. At times I prefer to edit an image I opened in the Elements Organizer in CS 6 instead of the Elements editor. When I try to do this the link brings me to CC version online which I do not have active. I never knowingly set this up this way and would like it to default to the CS 6 on my system. Can someone tell me how to do this?

    That was a long time ago. I don't even remember asking the question. I don't have that trouble at the moment.
