AppleWorks 6.2.9 w/ OSX 10.5.4 saved doc Page Setup corrupted

AppleWorks 6.2-6.2.9 has a Page Setup problem on OSX 10.5.4. Bought new MacBook for wife, transferred all files. When old Appleworks 6.2 .cwk WP files are opened the Page Setup is corrupt. Scale says 1,440%, doc prints as blank page. Can copy all, paste to new WP doc and works OK. Other apps so far print OK (FileMaker Adv 8.5, TextEdit, etc.)

The earliest stable version of AppleWorks in OS X is 6.2.4. The latest version is 6.2.9. Both work well in any version of OS X. Here is the page with the links I have for the 6.2.9 updater. The page has a link to the North American updater in the upper right (the blue 15.8 MB) & links to other languages further down. AppleWorks 6.2.9 for Mac.
If you have any ClarisWorks 4 or earlier files that have not been converted to at least AppleWorks 5, the best choice is AppleWorks 6.2.4. E-mail me if you need the 6.2.4 updater & I'll see if I can locate it. Click my name in blue next to this post. My public e-mail address is in the biography section. Just replace (AT) with @.
Whenever you do an update, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences). (Thanks to Barry for this way to format this very common answer.)
To Repair permissions, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them. This step should also be done anytime AppleWorks has crashed.

  • How Do I Install My Classic AppleWorks version 6.0 on OSX?!?!?!

There are updaters for AppleWorks 6.0 that will apparently take it into the OSX environment but, since I can't install it in that envrionment without first passing through the classic envrionment (which is not available on my new iMac), what do I do? I don't find any type of updater on Apple's site that will allow me to do this.

If you are using a PowerPC Mac without Classic on the hard disk, use the instructions in this article to install Classic on your machine, install AppleWorks 6.0 into Classic, and then run the updater to get a Mac OS X native version of it. You can then delete Classic if you want.
If you are using an Intel Mac and run into this issue, use SheepShaver to run Mac OS 9 and install the Classic version of AppleWorks.

  • AppleWorks 6.2.9 on OSX 10.4.6 imbedded images print VERY badly

Ever since my upgrade from an older version (don't remember which) of AppleWorks on OSX 10.2.x - in that arrangement all was well, now with AW 6.2.9 and OSX 10.4.6 every image I import by any means into an AW document of any type zooms on the screen just fine, very detailed, but prints VERY badly.
"Very badly" can be defined as, any text which is part of the image is blocky and becomes almost unreadable; all elements of the image blur at every edge - basically, look at a picture through an unfocused lens and you'll get the idea.
Any other application prints crystal clear using the same image files that AW messes up. I used to use AW to make my business letterhead, business cards, logos, media labels, etc. Now I'm doing all that by coding directly in PostScript because AW won't print nice copy.
I've been trying to find any settings in AW prefs regarding aliasing, smoothing, dithering, you name it, and nothing I've tried makes any difference.
Any ideas where to go to tell AW to play nice with the printer like it's ancestors used to?
Again, EVERY other application prints perfectly, so the printer, driver, cabling, etc cannot be the issue. Only when (and everytime) AW gets involved does printing get munged.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer me.
    iBook x 2 = G4 + G3   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   lots of pro audio packages....

    Thanks to all who answered.
I'm thinking it would have been nice of Apple to let us know that they were going to change something as wide-ranging as how images are imported into AW documents. As was mentioned by Yvan, the 72dpi limit was apparently introduced with AW6. Thanks for the clarification, also. I suspected that the OS (10.4.6 for me) and drivers were clean; since every other app I have prints perfectly. The very same files used to import into AW(older) and print fine just as they were on the older system.
Peggy, yes, most of the images in question were .tiff and .jpg formats, usually from a scan or a conversion from a .ps or .eps into a .jpg or .tiff.
Not being a graphic or visual guy (audio yes, but not graphics...), I had no idea what most of the plethora of image types offered by the "save as..." dialog were about, and had no time to try them all one by one. PICT format is fairly deep into the list, so it would've taken me a while to explore the possibilities that far.
But thank you Peggy, using Preview to convert to PICT format lets me import the images I need and prints them acceptably. I still think raw Postscript is a bit cleaner yet, but for most of my needs the conversion to PICT is so far solving the problem. And if anyone wonders, yes I really do code stuff by hand directly in Postscript. And Perl, and C, and Prolog, and.... So good of OSX to include my favorite editor, emacs! (Old Unix admins never die - we just spawn child processes...or fork and exec - take your pick!
Hope, interesting that your Intel-based machine had such a problem from the start. Even more interesting that a reload fixed it. Curious what may have been/not been installed in the original factory load.... Glad I'm still on PowerPC architecture - time-tested base of reliability there.
I did look at the tip from Sharon Joiner (linked by Yvan), but compared to Peggy's suggestion, Sharon's tip seems a bit more involved than it needs to be - at least for my needs.
    Again, thank you to everyone.

  • TS3938 How can I open my numerous Appleworks files now I have OSX 10.7 Lion?

I have just installed OS X 10.7 Lion on my iMac and, to my horror, I find that I cannot open my numerous old Appleworks files due to "Power PC applications no longer being supported".
Is there any way that I can perhaps burn these files to a CD and transfer them to my old iBook G4 which still runs 10.3 Panther? Or is there anything else I can do to salvage these old files?
Many thanks in anticipation of a positive answer.
    Alan.

    Hello Duckfeet22,
Your data is not lost, you can burn the files to use them with AppleWorks on your iBook G4 or if those files were created by AppleWorks 6 or 7 and if you have a copy of iWork, you can easily open your word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation files in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote respectively.
You can also buy Eazydraw ( http://www.eazydraw.com/ ) $20 license for 9 months , with full import of AppleWorks, ClarisDraw, MacDrawPro, and MacDrawII files.
There's a free Free Demo here if you just want to view, draw, save, print, up to 30 graphics.
    Hope this will help.

  • AppleWorks 6.2.9 and OSX 10.3.9 Command Click

I cant remember if this ever worked, but according to the Help, Command Click should allow me to select multiple cells in a spreadsheet. Its not working for me. I can shift select but then they all have to be next to each other etc. I went through and searched allot of this dscussions and didnt see that mentioned. Im not able to make it work I checked the international settings like Ive heard people say about other stuff, but dont see that extended option for 10.3.9.
    Thank you very much
    Kevin

    Hello
You are describing the normal behaviour.
In AppleWorks, selected cells must be contiguous.
To be more accurate, a block of selected cells must be rectangular.

  • CS6 & OSX 10.6.8 - saving files directly to the server does not work (most of the time)

    Hi there,
we just switched from OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6.8
OSX was installed on a new partition of the harddisk
    Then installed CS 5
Then installed CS 6 via (adobe creative cloud)
With CS6 we got also the problem with saving files to the server (program error)
It happens mostly with photoshop, sometimes with Illustrator.
I read a lot of posting regarding the same problem but didn´t found a real solution yet.
I am also wondering that there seems to be no solution for this now, because most of the posting i read are 1 year old.
Working locally is not really an acceptable workaround for us or anyone who needs to work with Creative Suite in a professional way.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize USB PnP Sound device connected  to iMac OSX even when activated in Audio MIDI setup. The iMac(i-7 processor,16 GB)   is working with this USB device without any problem

Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize the USB PnP Sound device in order to produce a commentary sound track. The USB device has been activated on the iMac OSX by using the Audio-MIDI-setup and is working correctly with the iMac. When opening > presets >audio hardware I can only select between >standard >out  integrated > digital input integrated >microphone integrated. USB PnP is not indicated at this place.
With the built-in microphone of the iMac I can produce the commentary sound track, but I would prefer a stand alone version for better quality.
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Annemarie!

I'm using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (which has a microphone on the side). I have several other devices plugged into separate USB slots: a keyboard, a mouse, my iPhone, and a Roland keyboard midi controller.
I've considered that maybe the webcam/mic combo is the culprit. If USB doesn't work at a constant speed, that could very well be causing the issue! The sound begins to lag badly sometimes when it's working properly, so that there's a multisecond delay between speaking and hearing my voice repeated back over the mic which is another sign that something is wrong. I've also caught it making a strange electronic sound during its "hang" time once it stops taking sound input correctly.
Maybe I should try to use line-in and forgo USB altogether then. I think I'd need a preamp and some sort of converter for that since the Mac Mini lacks a powered mic jack. I'm only a newbie musician so I've never set up such a system but it might be a better solution in the long run.
I'll check to see if it hangs before or after my computer enters suspend mode, that's a good suggestion too. Thank you for your help!

  • Upgraded to OSX 10.9.1 and now Pages (iWork '08) takes much longer to launch.

Initial launch of Pages takes significantly longer to load after upgrading OSX.  I have used 'software update', but nothing out there to download.  Any ideas?  The other components of my iWork '08 bundle work as expected, it is only Pages that seems to have performance issues under OSX 10.9.1.

If I remember, I believe I thought I had to upgrade to Mavericks for a feature related to sharing or FaceTime or something.  I have an iMac, 2 MacBook Pro laptops (kids), an iPad (wife's) and Apple TV.  So on Mavericks, everyone in the house is happy now; I just don't like that it takes 'forever' to launch Pages.  Perhaps I will upgrade to iWork '09 to see if that takes care of the issue.

  • Sending FAX - OSX Scrambles bottom half of every page

I've had complaints from people that my Faxes to them cannot be read as the bottom half does not exist. Upon FAXing to myself, It appears that the bottom half is compressed into about a half inch strip in the middle of the page.
This happens when I fax to my online FAX service and to other companies using "normal" FAXes.
I am using the PRINT - FAX PDF option via OSX. Any ideas?????

G4 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   using built in modem

    PAHU, Thanks for your reply.
I actually STILL use dialup, so my modem does get a workout. Could there still be an issue with faxing even though the modem works fantastic for my internet connection? I've only had a faxing issue for the last month or so, before that no problems. I'll have to experiment with the Modem speed etc . .
INTERESTING NOTE: I just received a FAX (from a stand alone FAX machiene that is known to work well) and it too is garbled. A large portion of the page appears to be compressed into about 1/2" space.
When I receive FAXes (via my online fax relay service) they are PDFs. AND when I send them from the OS, they are sent as PDFs. I wonder if there is some sort of a software issue in the OS that affects PDFs? <===?????

  • Mac Book OSX 10.6.8: Time machine error or corrupted external hard drive?

Mac Book OSX 10.6.8: Time machine runs fine and no error messages show after the process is complete. However, none of the new files or documents are saved to the back up. It is as if the drive is recopying an older backup and placing a new time stamp on it.

Nevermind. My friend was looking in the wrong folder for his files. They were saved under the desktop folder in the Users folder not the overall Desktop folder.

  • In Pages '09, OSX 10.8 how do I print multiple pages on one sheet of paper.  (I used to be able to do this in earlier versions via the "page setup" menu.

Forget it.  The answer is that the multiple page per page setup comes up in the printing menu.  (When you do command-P)

Click on the Show Details button in the Print dialog.
Whenever options seem to disappear, have a look around and explore what is available. Particular when they have what appears to be relevent labels.

  • Freehand 10 crashes when choosing "Page Setup" on OSX 10.4

I have seen this issue in other posts, but it was not solved and was archieved. I saw a solution of using an older file to work from, but has anyone found a fix for this yet? This has become a big issue since we change paper sizes constantly.

    The problem has been cleared.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. The last version of Firefox that runs on OS X 10.3.9 is Firefox 2.0.0.20

Just got a new Mac Mini with Mavericks installed and no matter what browser I try I will print a few pages off web sites then it will stop and give me a screen that says an "Print error" and will not print at all.
Any Ideas? I have reset the printer settings several times it works a few times then it stop and will not print.
I can save the page as a pdf and it will print those but this is not a acceptable solution fo the user's station.
It will print other thing fine with the exception of web pages.
I tried with sevral office printers all varios model and all the same problem when printing web pages.

    Try resetting the printing system.
