Appleworks 6 - interfacelibrary error

hi everybody, am new here and I have a problem with my old imac, osx 10.2.8
yesterday appleworks crashed while trying to save changings in a document. since that I cannot open any appleworksfile anymore. there is always an error message which says that an interfaclibraryerror occurred: "-<AppleWorks> <MW_MSL.PPC.Shlb><InterfaceLib> ". I started the imac several times but it doesnt help. can I through out this error somewhere in the library under caches? I tried to remove the caches but it did not work.
anyone here who might help me.
many thanks

If you can remove everything AW except the documents, or save them
to an archive for later use in the computer, then re-install AppleWorks,
then the missing parts won't matter any more. Using Find, that can be
helpful to locate parts even if not removing them.
Perhaps an old version of AppDelete may be available for the OS X
version you have, and then you could find and remove all parts of
AppleWorks, and ready the system for a new AW install. If you do that
and check for any update (6.2.9 over 6.2, etc) download, that'd be OK.
You can install just AppleWorks without running the full backup installer;
especially if you have upgraded the OS and the AW install is on an older
original disc. Not sure if an early version of Pacifist is still available for
download and use (works in demo mode) but if it is, that can extract just
the AppleWorks you need from the installer disc, and install that alone.
(The AW installer has several language versions, so be sure to get the
correct one for your need; and Pacifist can do the job fairly easy. It may
be able to replace the existing parts and install the missing ones, too.)
Sometimes an update, if not current, can help fix missing parts.
My AW 6.2.9 is the last version, per the installer I used.
A full backup on bootable external drive clone, is a good way to have a
complete computer content archive; then if a part goes missing, you
can have a resource to get a full installed working version from.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Appleworks Spreadsheet Saving Error

When using Appleworks 6 Spreadsheet, we tried to save the file as an Appleworks 5 Spreadsheet and received this message: "Off sheet references will not be saved". The formulas are not saved in the Appleworks 5 file.
    What are off sheet references?

Off sheet = not on sheet
If your document contains references to cells in another spreadsheet, those references will not be preserved in the AW5 copy.

  • OS 10.4.10 Killed my MS Word and Appleworks

While on a trip I downloaded the 10.4.10 update using Software Update. This was done while the iBook G4 was idle. Afterwards I was unable to open previously created/maintained - using 10.4.9 - files created by MS Word or by Appleworks. The error message title is: Application Launch Failure, the text is: The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "2<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonSound>" or same with Appleworks in place of Word. I have gone back and downloaded the 10.4.10 update and installed it from the download, but still "no joy!" I certainly like to overcome this problem. Maybe even drop back to the 10.4.9 version. I have made a DVD Back-Up of the data files. Any help/suggestions?

  • Distinguish between AW5 and 6 in script

I'm trying to create an application in Automator to automate the conversion of AW to iWork. I'm using one of Yvan's scripts to convert AW6 to iWork successfully. The only step remaining is to convert to AW6 from 5, something that shouldn't be too hard since all it has to do is open and save. However, I can't find a good way to distinguish between AW5 and 6. In his script, I believe Yvan does this here:
    on AWtoAW6(leCheminOriginal_UniText) -- leCheminOriginal_UniText est Unicode text
local leFichier, flag, nf, l, nouveauChemin
set leFichier to leCheminOriginal_UniText as alias

                        tell application "AppleWorks 6.2.9"
      activate
      open leFichier
set nf to name of document 1
                                  if nf contains v6 then
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to v6
set l to text items of nf
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ""
set nf to l as text
                                  end if
if nf does not end with ".cwk" then set nf to nf & ".cwk"
set nouveauChemin to cheminDeStockage & nf
                                  tell application "System Events"
if exists (file nouveauChemin) then set name of file nouveauChemin to (text 1 thru -(2 + (length of "cwk")) of nf) & my horoDateur(modification date of file nouveauChemin) & ".cwk" (* name stamped *)
      make new file at end of folder cheminDeStockage with properties {name:nf, file creator:"BOBO", file type:fileType}
                                  end tell
set leFichier to nouveauChemin as alias
      save document 1 in leFichier
      close document 1
                        end tell -- AppleWorks 6
              on error
set rapport to rapport & msg96 & nouveauChemin & return
              end try

I'm not sure what you mean. The files have to be saved as AW6 for the iWork apps to be able to open them.

  • Appleworks XTND Translator List error

When trying to insert a text file into the Appleworks 6.22 database I receive the following error: "The translator "ASCIIT~1" couldn't be found. Please delete the file "XTND Translator List" from your preferences folder and re-launch AppleWorks."
I can't locate a preferences folder or the XTND Translator List. Where can I locate this so I can delete it? I've googled this and only find information on using Appleworks on a MAC. Also, is there another way of correcting this error?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
XTND translators were used in previous versions of AppleWorks & ClarisWorks but, AFIK, not in AppleWorks 6, either on a Mac or PC.
I wish I could be of help. I have never been able to find a preferences folder in Windows XP. A search of my installation of Windows XP in Parallels & a search of my Mac for XTND doesn't find any file with this name. If I get a chance later today, I will install AppleWorks 5 in Windows & see if I can locate this file.
FYI: Apple Macintosh computers are referred to as Mac (capital M, small a, small c), not MAC (which is an acronym for the Media Access Control address of a networking device).

  • Import Error Opening AppleWorks 6.2.9 .cwk files in Pages 3.0.2

Once upon a time I could open all my Appleworks 6 files in Pages. Now, trying to open these files in Pages produces an "Import Error - AppleWorks document 'name xxx.cwk' is not a word processing document."
The file(s) were saved, re-saved and re-saved again as an AppleWorks 6.2.9 .cwk files. Pages 3.0.2 will no longer open any of my Appleworks 6 .cwk files. No drag-and-drop. No FILE/OPEN. Nothing ... same "Import Error."
Anyone having the same problems opening AppleWorks 6 .cwk files? Any solutions? Any advice? Thank you.

There was someone else here awhile back that also had problems opening AppleWorks word processing files with Pages. I had no problem opening the files with either AppleWorks or Pages, so we never did figure out what was the cause. I'd be glad to take a look at one or two of these files. • Applework will not open, printer error

When I try to open Appleworks, I get the following error. "AppleWorks could not be launched because of a shared library error "<Appleworks><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_PrintCores>"" This error just happened without making any adjustments to the computer. Prior to this error, the application (Safari, Appleworks, etc.) would unexpectedly quit when you tried to print. That problem also remains. I have an EPSON CX4200 that I bought with the computer.
    Any suggestions would be great.

    2. Trash the AppleWorks folder in your Home -> Library -> Preferences folder along with the com.apple.plist file. (Don't trash the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bar.)
I suspect you have reached the system's preferences folder rather than your own. OS X maintains a set of preferences for its own use, and a set for each User account.
In the Finder (and with AppleWorks NOT running), open a new finder window (command-N), then:
•Click the Home icon with your name beside it.
•Click the Library folder in the list that apears in the next column.
•Click the Preferences folder that appears in the next column.
•Drag the AppleWorks folder in the next column to the Trash.*
•Drag the com,apple.appleworks.plist file in this column to the Trash
*See note above regarding Button Bar preferences.
    3. Use the first aid utility to repair permissions on your hard drive (it's recommended that you run this more than once.
The 'first aid utility' is called Disk Utility. You'll find it in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, but it's probably easier to click the blue Spotlight icon at the right end of the menu bar, then type in "disk utility" (without the quotes). Double click the icon (it will show as the Top Hit) to run the utility, then click the First Aid button in the window that opens, then Repair Permission in the next window. As noted in the User Tips post, it's recommended that Repair Permissions be run more than once (until it reports that Permissions are OK or that no permissions were repaired).

  • Error opening Appleworks document

Everytime I try and open a Appleworks spreedsheet in Numbers 09 I get this error: "Numbers quit unexpectedly while using the SFWordProcessing plug-in."
I'm running the most recent version of Numbers, version 2.0.4 (184). I do not have any problems opening Appleworks word processor files in Pages. Do I need to change some preference in Numbers to open Appleworks files?

Put that error message in Google and search. Plenty of people have had that problem with various updates. The solutions go from simple to requiring terminal to taking it to an Apple Genius. Here is one thread on the subject:

  • 1/0 error for AppleWorks 6

Whnever I try to open any of the AppleWorks documents in one of my folders, I get an error message that says 1/0 Error. What is this error and how do I fix it so that I can open my documents?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Would these happen to be ClarisWorks 4 or earlier files you're trying to open with AppleWorks 6.2.9? The cause is unknown & there doesn't appear to be a way to predict which files will cause problems. I've had it happen & not happen with all AppleWorks file types. These files can be opened by any other version of AppleWorks 6.
If that's not the case, I'm afraid the files are corrupt. You might be able to "rescue" the raw data by opening the file with TextEdit. You would find a lot of "garbage" text before & after the actual text, but it will be there.

  • I frequently get an "Unknown Import error" when opening an appleworks WP document with Pages.

I am trying to use Pages to convert Appleworks 6.9 WP documents - but I sometimes get an "unknown import error" dialog when I try to import the file into Pages.  What does this mean, and is there any way to get around it.  (I have not yet converted to Lion, so I can open the document in AW - but cutting and pasting into pages loses a lot of formatting so I would rather not have to go that route.)

Thanks.  I don't actually think this is generally the case, though.  (In fact, when I have had AW files that included graphics created by AW they seem to have converted smoothly).
Why can't Apple give an informative message instead of "Unknown Import Error"?

  • Error when launching AppleWorks Help??

I get this message when trying to launch AppleWorks
The application "AppleWorks" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "1<AppleWorks><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_LaunchServices>"
ANy ideas? I have tried to reinstall but the installer quits

I'm also having a problem launching Appleworks. Whenever I click on it's icon in the applications folder or on the dock, it shows me a few seconds of the starting points window before unexpectedly quitting. Word for word, the program tells me "The application Appleworks quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple." I have tried relaunching and gotten the same message, and have already sent a report to Apple, but have not yet heard from them. I can open appleworks by clicking on documents that I used Appleworks to create, but once I close them, the application quits again. Does this sound familiar/is there anything that I can do?
    Thanks!

  • "I/O Error" when trying to open an Appleworks 5 document in 6.2.9

I recently updated to Appleworks 6.2.9 to avoid the printing problems in earlier versions. Now I cannot open any Appleworks 5 files or convert from Appleworks 5 (older files I occassionally need to access). In other words, all of my older Appleworks files are no longer accessible.
A screen pops up that says, "There was an I/O Error".
Is there any fix for this problem besides using the old version (6.2.8 or earlier)?
    G4 Twin   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It sounds like you have found some previous posts about I/O errors in AppleWorks 6.2.9. This doesn't normally affect AppleWorks 5 files, just ClarisWorks 4 or earlier files & is not the same as the problem addressed in my user tip, AppleWorks 6 won't open my AW 5 files.
If these problem files are AppleWorks 5 files, it is quite likely that they are corrupt, in which case no version of AppleWorks 6 would open them. It might be possible to recover the raw data by opening the files in a text editor.
