Appleworks 6 spell checker (spellchecker) window

Hi everyone,
Pages is ok (if you believe that all of your word processing functions should be sliced into tiny pieces of spreadsheet, documents, etc, sorry, ranting)... but I like Appleworks. So I imported Appleworks 6 over from my previous Macbook to this one.
There is one problem. When I try to spellcheck my documents, a tiny little spellcheck window appears up at the menu bar. When I say tiny, that is, it is so small that it does not show me the actual words being flagged or the options to correct them -- all that can be seen is "1 Questionable Word." I cannot figure out how to resize or edit or work with this window, so spellcheck is pretty unusable. My best option right now is to export a document into Pages, spellcheck it there, and return to AW. Not good!
(One of the issues I have with Pages is the lack of outline capabilities -- creating a document in outline form. And when I tried to copy my outline from AW to Pages, the outline formatting disappeared! But those are other problems for another day.)
I have spent about an hour searching these forums, am finally throwing in the towel & posting, seriously hoping anyone can help. Thank you for very much for your ideas!

Welcome to Apple Discussions
This is likely related to the spell check window problem that happened with early OS X versions of AppleWorks 6 when the dock was placed anywhere except the bottom. Try changing the dock location & see what happens. The dock issue was fixed in the 6.2.2 update, but returned with 6.2.4. It was again fixed with the last update, 6.2.9.
The other, less likely, possibility is corrupt preferences. Easily fixed by deleting the AppleWorks preferences.

• Spell Checking for Windows

Is this even being considered at this time? I didn't find any recent requests for this feature so either everyone has given up on getting it or I am the only one who thinks this would be a huge benefit. Am I the only one ???

Ah. I didn't realize Mac users had spell checking and Windows users didn't - now I wish I didn't know that (would be useful on Windows too: +1 vote)

• Migration Assistant broke Appleworks Spell Check...

I think. I can't be certain because I'm dealing with my mother's computer and she is 200 miles away.
We used MA to transfer all her settings and such to a new iMac and thought everything was fine until she realized the Appleworks Spell Check no longer works.
Is it possible MA would have ignored the blue Appleworks 6 folder inside Applications and simply copied over just the application itself?
Is there anything I can do to restore that blue folder or Spell Check? We have already trashed her aging eMac so is it possible to reinstall Appleworks? I believe the original program was on an install disk she may no longer have.
Any thoughts?
TIA
michael

Migration Assistant would have moved the whole AppleWorks 6 folder. As long as the Dictionaries folder is in the AppleWorks Essentials folder that would not be the problem.
The "connection" doesn't migrate, you need to "tell" AppleWorks where the dictionary is. With a word processing document open, go to Edit > Writing Tools -> Select Dictionaries... > click "Main Dictionary" (if it isn't already clicked) > Choose > & navigate to the dictionary which should be in HD > Applications > AppleWorks 6 > AppleWorks Essentials > Dictionaries. The same process is used to create a user dictionary. Click "User Dictionary" then click "New" -> Save.

• Please make polsih spell checker dicitonery compatible

please make polsih spell checker compatible Windows 7 Firefox Desktop 14.0.1

You can click the grayed "Continue to Download" and "Accept and Install" button on the Add-ons page and choose "Install anyway" to force installing the dictionary.

• Disable Spell Check for Skype APP windows 8.1

Hello
I am using the Skype App for windows 8.1. I am Spanish, but I regularly use English in my Skype conversations.
Is it even possible to turn off the spell check? I already disabled it for windows, in the PC settings but, for some reason I won't ever understand, Skype keeps correcting my words.
Please someone help me, before i throw my laptop out of the window.

It won't let me edit post for some reason.
If in some case you are satisfied with turning your keys globally, you won;t see the changes until you press ctrl +w. So correct steps for this procedure are:
You can do it via charms and disable spellcheck globally , but if you don't press ctrl-W then you return to skype, it won't show as working
If that rocks your socks then:
Launch the charms pressing Win+C.
Go to Settings and hit on Change PC settings.
Choose PC and devices and navigate to Typing.
Carry the slider right or left as you want to use the feature.
Come back to Skype and hit Ctrl+W to return to Skype Home and compel the changes to take effect.

• When I right click, I can't copy or spell check or open a tab in a new window.

When I right click on a picture, it doesn't give me the option to copy or to view in another tab as a separate image from the web page it is on. I no longer have the option to spell check. When I highlight text to copy, it doesn't give me an option to copy it but only says "copy link location". I can open a new tab by holding down the control key and clicking the link I want open in a new tab but when I right click and click "Open in new tab" it does nothing. This started happening about a week ago.

You can try to update to Firefox 21 that has been released today.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

• Can Firefox change the language for spell-check automatically when I change my input keyboard in Windows?

I am an American, studying French and Spanish, on Windows 8.1. For typing in web forms (and in any other program), I installed Windows keyboards for French and Spanish. Windows lets me switch between keyboards easily, by either (a) an icon in the system tray, or (b) the key combo Windows Key + Space Bar.
In Firefox I installed a spell checker for French and Spanish. Very nice.
But when I switch between languages, to get the correct spell checker I have to right-click in a text field, then go to Languages and select my current language. A minor inconvenience.
It would be nice for Firefox to detect which keyboard I am using and switch to the appropriate spell checker automatically. Is it possible please?
I keep the user interface for both Windows and Firefox in English always.

• Spell Checking on AppleWorks 5 for iBook Clamshell (original) Tangerine

I am a first time Mac user. I am using an iBook clamshell Tangerine color. I can't seem to work the spell checking in the Appleworks 5.0. I click onto it from either the toolbar or in the menu and it does not allow my select the document I want spell checked. Does anyone have a solution? I love my unit, it is so retro but a little antiquated. Help!!!
iBook (original) Clamshell Tangerine Mac OS 9.2.x Refurbished unit

Before you update your RAM and OS you may want to verify what your firmware is. You need to have a firmware of 4.1.7 to be able to use a 512mb ram stick as well as increase funtionality in OS X, see this article....
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75128
This update (if you need it) must be done on a Bootable OS9 drive, NOT the cd's.
If you need help confirming your firmware in OS9, please post back. If I can help I will try and post back then.
Hope that helps...

We are running Windows 2008 servers on our network with remote desktop services (terminal services). We currently experiencing a challenge with Word 2010. The spell check feature is not working, when you try and run it gives an error "Microsoft Word
can't check the spelling or grammar in this document. An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly." After about 5 clicks it comes up with Cannot find the proofing tools for English (Australia). It eventually it works, need to
get it to work the first time. I have searched all around but can't seem to find the answer.

I'd try them over here.

• Spell checker quirky running Outlook mail with Firefox, works fine when running Windows

Using Firefox with Outlook mail. Spell checker misses many obvious typos and misspellings. After correcting an error or two with spell checker underlining of remaining uncorrected errors disappears.
Spell checker works properly when using Windows with Outlook mail.

I'm not using the MS mail service very much these days as there have been too often issues in Firefox that took too long to get fixed by MS, so I hadn't noticed these issues, but with checking it out I can see the same happen if there are multiple errors marked.

• Dreamweaver CS6 crashing on spell check of whole document, Windows 8.1

After using Dreamweaver CS6 happily for quite a while, it is now crashing regularly when I try to spell check more than a very short section.
I recently updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and was prompted to update Dreamweaver afterwards, which I did.
The Windows log file shows that it is MSVCR100.dll that is the faulting module.

I used the command prompt window to check for file validity, sfc /scannow but it did not find any problems at all.
What can I do now??

That seems to have worked. But I did not find files with the names you suggested.
I did find an article while searching for DW Cache that gave paths for a lot of different versions of Windows and of Dreamweaver, http://www.dmxzone.com/go/16740/clearing-dreamweaver-s-cache/
Using that I was able to select WinfileCache and delete it. On restarting Dreamweaver CS6, spell check seems to be working,
Thanks so much for the suggestion.
Now if I can just remember it the next time something messes up! :-)

Yes, if you know where it is now. Aperture cannot help you find them, only where it last saw them, but if you tell it where they are, it can reconnect them.
