Appleworks applications

I have had some good leads from another discussion group and can now get text to appear in an arc, but am going crazy trying to figure out how I can get the text to appear in a curve as if it is inside the circle not on the outside. I don't know what to type into "help" in order to figure it out. I'd appreciate any leads. This seems so odd to not be able to figure this out when I could do it on an older Mac about 13 years ago... you'd think it would be even easier by now. Go figure.

You're Welcome batmom!
Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it!

  • What happened to my Appleworks application?

Hi! I have recently re installed Mac OSX 10.4, because my computer has been randomly shutting down and going into sleep mode. After I re installed OSX, my Appleworks application has mysteriously dissappeared! Does anyone know why and where it is and how I can get it back!?
    Thanks, Fiona

AppleWorks is not part of OS X. It is a separately sold application. If you had AppleWorks on your previous installation then either you purchased it (and have an installer disc) or it was part of the pre-bundled software that came with your computer. In the case of the latter it will be in the Bundled Software or Additional Software package located on your original Software Restore discs that came with the computer.

  • Is there an "AppleWorks" application that opens Appleworks documents on Mac OSX Version 10.8?

    Ciao All,
Does anyone know of a "Appleworks" application I can download that will open all of my old Appleworks documents on my new OS X 10.8 computer?  How about "Word" Documents.
    Thanks,

  • Umm, where did my AppleWorks application go?

I reinstalled my OS X Tiger software due to some problems, and well now I cannot find AppleWorks, boy am I PO'ed please help...

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Marty
I can understand your frustration, but please remember this is a user-to-user forum &, like in most situations in life, it is not a good idea to take your frustrations out on those you are asking for help. I am sure that your situation is the same as the original poster's in the other thread you posted in.
Apple has written a new Knowledge Base article on restoring the software than came with your Mac. If your Mac is one of the newer ones mentioned in the first link, AppleWorks is at the bottom of the list. Click the arrow/triangle (if necessary) next to AppleWorks Languages at the bottom of the list, check the box for the language you want. AppleWorks is not multi-lingual & there is a separate application for each language. You can install more than one if you'd like.

  • Accidentally Deleted Appleworks Application icon

My kids accidentally deleted the apple works 6 icon and I don't see it in the trash. How can I get it back without reinstalling the software?

Since the application itself has been deleted, you'll have to reinstall it from the original disk. As you have a MacBook, I have to assume you have the retail AppleWorks CD as AppleWorks is not bundled with any Intel Mac.

  • Appleworks application quits

I have an older iMac (2000). I had it upgraded from 9 to OS X 10.2.8, and is running Applworks 6. My problem is at first one of my appleworks files would not open. It's an alias file and was working fine even after the upgrade but all of a sudden was not cooperating. When I double clicked on the file icon the appleworks symbol came up and then it dissappeared with a dialog box that read, "Application quit, no other applications were affected". I went to the get info box and selected get new original which turned the file Icon into a folder icon which when I double click contains all appleworks files except the one I need. I tried going to the section where the get info box said the original was and it wasn't there???
    Thanks

    Hello
Use the Finder's Search tool to search every files whose name starts with "AppleWorks 6".

  • CANNOT Open AppleWorks 6 application

    Hello,
    URGENT SITUATION:
I have been using this application for some time and lately it stared acting strange, and now tells me "You cannot open the application AppleWorks 6 because it may be damaged or incomplete".
I have no idea what I could have done to damage it, or what that means. I do know that my computer probably has too much memory in use but all my other applications work OK. I also have many files using AW6. Please help me, this data is very important!
    Thank you, Rhino123

    Hi Rhino,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the AppleWorks forum.
If the error message is to be believed, it would appear that your AppleWorks application file has become damaged. Before reinstalling it from the installation disk(s) that came with your (pre intel) Mac Mini, try these basic trouble-shooting steps:
    1. Have you moved the AppleWorks 6 application out of the AppleWorks 6 folder? If so, move it back to that folder.
The AppleWorks 6 folder should be at top level inside the Applications folder on your hard drive, and must contain the application, and the AppleWorks Essentials, Clippings and Starting Points folders. There may be other items in this folder, but these 4 are essential.
    2. A common cause of AppleWorks not working correctly (or not working at all) is corrupted preferences files (although this does not usually generate the alert you reported). In the Finder, go to Mac HD > Users > yourname > Library > Preferences
Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
Find and open the AppleWorks folder at this location. Delete the two cache files and the preferences file it contains. If you have made changes to the Button Bar, you may wish to keep that file, otherwise delete it as well. AppleWorks will create new, clean copies of these files as they are needed.
    3. Another common cause of AppleWorks slowing significantly or failing to launch is the Recent Items bug. (Again, this bug does not usually generate the alert you report.) AppleWorks is sensitive to the number of items in the Recent Items folder it keeps for each user. In the Finder, go to Mac HD > Users > yourname > Documents > AppleWorks User Data > Starting Points > Recent Items.
Delete all or most of the items in this folder. The items are aliases to files you have saved. Deleting them has no effect on the actual file.
If none of these helps, I would suggest reinstalling AppleWorks from your original disks. Note that a reinstall does NOT replace or repair files outside the AppleWorks 6 folder.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Restoration of Appleworks 6 to my Applications

Recently lost my hard drive; had a new one installed with
10.4.2 update. However the Appleworks application was missing.
How can I resolve this problem?

Hi Arthur -- If you look on the CD's that came with your iBook, you'll find AppleWorks on the "Software Install" disk. The problem is, it's in the folder: "Applications (Mac OS 9)" -- which means it's a "classic" app, so you can't reinstall it without first installing Mac OS 9.
As I recall, the CD will install the software outside your Applications folder -- probably because, once it is installed, you can use it with both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.
You should move the AppleWorks folder into your Applications folder, then download and run the updater... http://www.apple.com/appleworks/update/
Info about using MacOS 9 with Tiger is here:

    Good luck!

  • How can I convert an Applework document to .doc (Windows)?

Does anyone know how can I convert an Applework document to .doc (Windows)?

You can save an AppleWorks word processing document as Word using File > Save As… You will need to add the .doc extension as AppleWorks won't do it for you.
If you don't see Word as an option in the file type drop-down menu you likely have moved the AppleWorks application from the AppleWorks 6 folder and/or deleted the support folders, especially the AppleWorks Essentials folder where the translators reside.

  • Where can I get Appleworks?

Recently I had to replace the hard drive on my 333 mhz iMac (running OS 9.1). When I got it back, I realized that the Appleworks application, which had come pre-installed, was now gone. Where can I get a version of Appleworks to run now (and which version is it)? I don't suppose it would be on any of the disks that came with the iMac when I first bought it (when it had OS 8.5).
While I'm at it, where can I get a version of Word to use? I have the Student/Teacher Edition of Office 2004 on my iBook, but that needs at least OS 10.2. Is there an older version for OS 9? I think that Office 2001 is the one to use but it's kind of expensive.
    Thanks in advance.

Check the System Install CD. AppleWorks v5.0.3 should be on there. If so, you should be able to custom install.
You may need to use TomeViewer.

  • Cannot open Appleworks at all

When I try to open Appleworks it doesn't do anything. It pretends like it will open but then doesn't. I can't tell where it is getting hung up. I tried to use Peggy's advice and delete the preferences but that didn't work. I don't have it on my dock. Any help would be great. Thanks!

For others reference this is the original post I started with from Peggy..
--The best, first step in trouble-shooting a misbehaving application is to delete its preference files. Preference files often become corrupted through no fault of the user - it just happens. Although it sounds scary or drastic to do this, it can only help the application. When any application is launched, it looks for its preference files. If it doesn't find any (just like the very first time you started AppleWorks) it will build new ones.
First, quit AppleWorks if it is running. In all instances, you don't want to trash the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bar. You will need to reset any preferences you had changed, but AppleWorks' preferences are simple.
]•In OS X you want to move the AppleWorks preferences found in HD/Users/username/Library/Preferences/AppleWorks & the com.apple.appleworks.plist found in ~/Library/Preferences/ to the Trash, then empty the Trash & restart AppleWorks.
]•In OS 8-9, the preference files to Trash are found in HD/System Folder/Preferences/AppleWorks. Then empty the Trash & restart AppleWorks.
Should AppleWorks still not work as before or expected, the next step is to make sure AppleWorks and the necessary support files are installed and where AppleWorks "expects" to find them.
]It is not uncommon for users to move the AppleWorks application from the AppleWorks 6 folder to a more convenient location, separating it from its necessary folders - AppleWorks Essentials, Clippings & Starting Points. The AppleWorks 6 application & the above mentioned folders must be in a folder named AppleWorks 6. Not keeping all these "parts" together will
"break" translators, spell check, updaters, etc. If you do want to have AppleWorks available in another spot, make an alias from the File menu and put the alias wherever you'd like. You can even have several aliases.
]If you cannot find all of the "parts" or have inadvertently deleted some, you will need to reinstall AppleWorks using the "Easy Install" option. There is no need to remove the existing AppleWorks files, the installer will merely install what is missing. --
I am quite puzzled by the fact that my harddrive is full. I use the laptop mainly for the internet. I am a stay at home mom so I don't have huge data on my computer. I guess it came with like 60 G and I only have about 4 left. That is crazy to me. Where did it all go??? I have about a years worth of pictures and maybe 100 songs but the only program I have added is the full version of photoshop which isn't even a Gig. I seriously have saved maybe 20 documents on this thing. I run Quicken and use the calender but it just seems so crazy that it would be full already!!!!

  • Appleworks won't open

When I click the icon in the dock all that happens is it bounces once

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Nick
    Several possibilities come to mind.
    1. The Dock alias has lost its connection to the AppleWorks application.
Control- or right-click or click-&-hold on the Dock alias & chose Show in Finder from the contextual menu. Also, you can do a search in the Finder for "AppleWorks." The actual Appleworks application should be in HD > Applications > AppleWorks 6. If it's not, see the bottom part of my user tip that Yvan linked to earlier or reinstall AppleWorks.
    2. It could be the "Recent Items bug." There are three user tips in the User Tips Library dealing with Recent Items.
Dale Gillard - AppleWorks slow? Spinning ball appears?
Dale Gillard - Recent items not visible/updated
Yvan Koenig - No More Recent Items
    3. You’re running a version of AppleWorks other than 6.2.4 or 6.2.9.
The earliest version of AppleWorks 6 that is stable in OS X is 6.2.4. The current version is 6.2.9. You can find the updater 6.2.4 here. You can find the most reliable link to the 6.2.9 updater on this page where you can choose the appropriate updater for your AppleWorks 6 installation. Be sure to pay attention to the two English version updaters. Avoid AppleWorks 6.2.7 as it was the buggiest version ever.
    4. It might be more of an OS issue than an AppleWorks one.
So, the first thing I suggest is repairing permissions using Disk Utility. Then, unless you leave your Mac on 24/7 & not asleep, run a utility to run the UNIX cron routines & clean caches. Two free ones are YASU & OnyX. I prefer YASU because you can’t delete something you shouldn’t as you can with OnyX. The only thing not checked by default that I would check is Clear font cache.
Also, make sure your hard drive isn't too full. It depends on how you use your computer, but for most normal users a minimum of 5 gigs free space at all times after installation is recommended. Power users may need more.
If this still doesn't work, repairing your hard drive with Disk Utility may help. Start up your Mac from the first Panther instal disk. Then, instead of running the installer, go to the Installer menu & choose Disk Utility. Select your hard drive in the left-hand panel & click Repair Disk. When it is done, quit Disk Utility then quit Installer & restart your Mac.

  • Appleworks won't save DB file as ASCII

My AppleWorks Database won't save the file as an ASCII (for export) Save As, only offers AppleWorks and Claris Works options. I know in the past ASCII was an option, but for some reason no longer?
    I am running AW 6.2.9 on a PowerPC G5 running 10.5.8.

Did you move the AppleWorks application from the AppleWorks 6 folder, separating it from its necessary folders - AppleWorks Essentials, Clippings & Starting Points? The AppleWorks 6 application & the above mentioned folders must be in a folder named AppleWorks 6 & this folder must be at the first level of the Applications folder. Not keeping all these "parts" together will break translators, spell check, updaters, etc.

  • Help with Appleworks documents

I just upgraded my system to Lion.   Now I cannot acess any of my Appleworks documents.  Is there any way to solve this?
I really like the Appleworks application.  Am I stuck with only using Excel for Mac?  Thanks

To open my AW documents I used Numbers and Pages. I found that worked quite nicely.
or my AW databases, I migrated the data prior to upgrading to Lion and then using Bento as the replacement for AW DB.
I don't have anything from Microsoft on my Macs.
If you remain on Lion, you are going to have to find another application to use instead of AW.

  • Is Appleworks part of iLife?

I "lost" my Appleworks application after an erase and reinstall and I understand I can get it back from my installation CD. However I am considering upgrading to iLife '06 and wondered if Appleworks is included in that "software bundle". I would save me the hassle of getting the ap back from the CD.

AppleWorks is not part of iLife '06. It's also not packaged with any version of Mac OS X. It used to come bundled with 'consumer level' Macs (eg iMac, iBook), but no longer.
If you bought one of these consumer level Macs then AppleWorks can be found on the CD/DVD which came with that Mac. I can't tell you how to do this as it's different for many Macs. But if you search this Forum you'll find other people asking how to reinstall AppleWorks, and you should find the answer for your particular Mac.
