  • Zinio Reader could not be lauched -shared library error

I am getting the following Application Lauch Failure.
The application "Zino Reader" could not be lauched because of a shared library error: "<Zinio Reader><OpenGLLibrary>"
Everything was working around two to three weeks ago with the reader and now I have been unable to resolve this. I have tried upgrading application with no success. I have repaired disk permission with the disk utility. Still no success.
    Any suggestion how to remedy?

Only solution that worked was to reinstall OS X by Archive and Install. Then followed the following instructions.
    UNINSTALL
Please drag the following to the Trash (you may not have all these
items; please delete any that you have):
    Applications > Zinio
    'User' > Library > Preferences > ContentGuard
    'User' > Library > Preferences > Zinio.plist
    'User' > Library > Preferences > com.zinio.reader.plist
    'User' > Library > Preferences > com.zinio.zdlm.plist
    'User' > Zinio Library > zcmd.plist
    Be sure to "Empty Trash."
    RE-INSTALL

  • Please help! Shared Library Error... no applications will open!

    Hi. Major issues!!
My computer was unplugged for 2 weeks (renovations). When I set it up in my new office, none of my applications would open! (Microsoft, Adobe, AOL, etc...) Safari is working.
    I get this error message:
The application "Photoshop" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "5<application><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error:
    "8<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
The application "AOL" could not be launched because of a shared library error:
    "9<AOL (Bootstrap)><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
The application "AppleWorks" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "4<AppleWorks><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechRecognition>"
    Here's what I've tried...
I have tried to install combo update 10.3.9. .. didn't work.
My computer was purchased in 2004... just moved to a new house... do not know where my installation dvd is... so to reboot on that is not an option.
I tried disk repair permissions... didn't work!
I opened my log console to view the crash logs... and it appears a lot has crashed... but I can not understand what any of it means!?!
Can anyone help or offer some advice?
Can anyone understand a crash log if I post it?
Please help!?! Taking an online masters course and this is a major dilemma!
    Thanks,
    Lindsay

    Hi Lindsay,
"Can I get one from a mac store? Does it have to be the original one I used when I purchased my mac?"
No, you can no longer purchase 10.3 Panther disks from Apple Stores, online or otherwise. You may however, be able to purchase replacement disks for your computer (if Mac OS 10.3 were the original install disks that came with your mac) by calling Apple and explaining and having the serial number ready of the computer.
If your installation of 10.3 was an upgrade you can purchase retail copies of 10.3 disks online from many resellers, such as on ebay or sites such as FastMac, but be sure to purchase a retail box set and not upgrade or machine specific disks.
Did you perform all of the steps that Kappy steered you to in Dr. Smoke's FAQ first and your only option left is the Archive and Install?

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If that doesn't help...
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to open AW6.

The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "-<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_System>"
that is the message i got when i tried to use microsoft word, how do i fix it?

See if reinstalling Word fixes it. Otherwise, since Word is not an Apple product, you should consider posting your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products, as they are geared more toward the issue than an Apple forum:

  • Error Message on Mac Installation of Studio 8 "Flash Player" could not be launched

When I try to install Studio 8 on a new MacBook with Mac OS/X software, I get the following error message:
"Flash Player" could not be launched because of a shared library error <Flash Carbon Player>
Please help me get past this. Thanks.

What version of Mac OS X? Be aware that Studio 8 is quite old and may not be supported on later versions of Mac OS X. In fact the reference to <Flash Carbon Player> suggests this, as Carbon is being deprecated (it was a way to bridge the old pre-mac os x codebases and bring them over to Mac OS X). It may be time to upgrade/update your software.

  • Application Launch Failures after Update: shared library error

Soon after installing the latest Security and Operating System Updates, I discovered that I could no longer run Microsoft Office. I get the following error message when attempting to open any of the components: Application Launch Failure The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "3<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CommonPanels>" I have tried reinstalling the updates but it hasn't helped. I can't reinstall Office because the same error message comes up when I try to open the Microsoft installer. Can anyone help? I'm stuck. Thanks.

    Again, thanks.
It's somewhat confusing. The folder /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CommonPanels. framework
contains 3 items, a gray screen marked Common Panels with a small arrow pointing to the lower left edge, a folder marked Versions (which holds folders marked A and Current), a folder marked Current (which has a small arrow pointing to the lower left edge and holds a gray screen marked Common Panels and a folder marked Resources) and a folder marked A (which also contains a gray screen marked Common Panels and a folder marked Resources. When I click the gray screen marked Common Panels, I get a message that there is no default application specified to open the document "CommonPanels".
I'm not sure what all that means. Are there too many Common Panel screens? Does the small arrow have any significance? I've also discovered that, in addition to not being able to run Office, I can't install any new applications (same CarbonLib error message). If you think I need to archive and install the System, I can try to do so.

  • "Shared library error" prevents app launch

Did the upgrade to 10.4.10 this morning, via the Software Update panel. Upon restart, attempts to launch Microsoft Word / Excel or FileMaker results in:
    Application Launch Failure
The application "Word" could not be launched bceause of a shared library error: "2 <Microsoft Word> <CarbonLib> <CFMPriv_CarbonSound> "
I'm out of my depth here. I've repaired permissions, but no dice. Any advice?
(Many other apps - browsers & email, Adobe, Macromedia, Digidesign - launch fine.)

Well, this has blown into a bit of a 'situation,' I'm afraid, mostly because I don't have my 10.4 DVD. (Seems I left it at the office when I left some months ago. They can FedEx it to me, but as they're closed Wednesday, I won't get started until Friday.) The only system disc I have is my 10.1.3 installer, and I suspect I'll open several new cans of worms if I jump that far backward.
The G5 now won't boot at all. I can start it in FireWire target mode from the G4, and can see all the data on my hard drives. When it's turned on by itself, the panel light and the fans all look and sound the way they should, but I get to a screen that reads Mac OS X and a progress bar that never progresses – i.e. a white strip that goes nowhere.
I also can boot the G5 into Terminal (or whatever you call it when I open with Opt + Cmd + O + F), but don't know my way around it. Didn't do anything there except remove the CD.
A friend tried posting me a copy of his 10.4 disc 1 for me to use, but it seems the Apple folks knew we'd think of that. Whatever the technology, I can mount it but can't boot from it. (Or maybe that's Toast? I see that their help page reads, "You cannot make a bootable Mac Volume disc.")
Repaired & Verified permissions on the G5 before it locked me out. Looking at it from the G4 confirms that it at least thinks that 10.4.10 was successfully installed; I'm now downloading the 10.4.10 combo update. (I hadn't realized until I was already typing this that I should try running it on the G5's system drive, from the G4.)
I'm just posting this in case someone who's been willing to read this far spots some magic bullet that I'm missing.

  • Application launch failure - Shared Library Error

I'm getting a "shared library error" when I try to launch nearly all of my applications..Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Final Cut, etc.. The error reads:
The application "Excel" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "?<Microsoft Excel><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPriv_QuickTime>"
I ran disk utility and it said 1 volume could not be repaired because of an error. i went & bought Disk Warrior & ran it, but it did not fix the problem. Anything I can do other than Zeroing out the hard drive & re-installing the OS?
Oh, and i tried to re-install some of the apps, but that didn't work either.

You can try to reinstall Mac OS 10.4.8 combo update Intel or PPC.
Anyway, this is symptomatic of hard drive failure and needs repair (changing the hard drive).

The application "FreeHand" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "5<FreeHand X><FreeHand X><PowerPlant Shared Library>"
Only thing I can think of that is different now than last time I used FH is I activated iWork Pages

    I have repaired permissions

    Hi, Robert.
Here is some general advice on troubleshooting shared library errors. In your case, I suspect points 1 and 2 below apply as it looks like the shared library error in this case is citing only Freehand-related components (a check on the Adobe site indicates the PowerPlant Shared Library is part of Freehand).
A shared library error, in general terms, implies a missing, corrupted, or incompatible application or operating system framework. Details on frameworks and shared libraries (heavy technical reading) can be found in the "Frameworks" section of the "Software Development Overview" chapter of the Apple Developer Connection document Mac OS X Technology Overview, and the Framework Programming Guide.
Causes for shared library errors include:
    • The affected application has been corrupted and must be reinstalled.
    • The affected application is incompatible with the version of Mac OS X you are using, or depends upon another application or operating system component which is either corrupted or incompatible with the affected application.
    • Running incompatible versions of two applications with interdependent shared libraries.
    • Disk directory or permission corruption.
    • Corrupted operating system installation.
    To resolve shared library errors:
    1. As a start, perform a general checkup by running the Procedure in my Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption FAQ. Directory corruption can result in a shared library being seen as "missing."
    2. If the problem persists, and only one application is affected, uninstall, then reinstall the affected application. See my "Uninstalling applications" FAQ for important advice on uninstalling software.
    3. Assure that the version of Mac OS X you are using is compatible with the system requirements of the affected application. The system requirements for an application can usually be determined by consulting either its documentation, the developer's Web site, or by contacting the developer.
    4. Assure you are running either the latest versions or compatible versions — as specified in the system requirements of the affected application — of other applications, if any, cited in error messages concerning the shared library error. Error messages concerning the shared library error may be displayed in alert dialogs or may appear in Console logs. In particular, check these of these Console logs for specific messages citiing the shared library error and the affected application. Applications cited in the error message, other than the affected application, indicate that the affected application depends upon a shared library provided by these other applications.• Assure you are running the correct, compatible versions of any applications, other than the affected applicaiton, cited in the error messages.
    • Reinstall any of the applications, other than the affected application, cited in the shared library error message. For example, the shared library error messageThe application "application_name" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<<applicationname><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPrivQuickTime>could imply that the installed version of QuickTime may either be corrupted or incompatible with the affected application due to the presence of CFMPriv_QuickTime in the message.
    5. If the problem persists, or the shared library in question is part of the operating system, reinstall Mac OS X using the Archive and Install process. See my "General advice on performing an Archive and Install" FAQ.
    Good luck!
