Appleworks Data base
how do I open appleworks data base document in OS 10.7.5?
Bad news, I'm afraid. The only program which will open an AppleWorks database is Appleworks. Though Word Processing documents can be opened in Pages, and Spreadsheets in Numbers (and Draw documents in one version of EazyDraw), nothing whatever will open an AppleWorks database.
The only possibility for retrieving it is to find a way of running AppleWorks - for example if your Mac will run Snow Leopard (i.e. if you upgraded it from that and didn't buy it with a later system ready installed) you could install Snow Leopard and AppleWorks on an external hard disk and boot from that.
If you can do that you can export the database as ASCII text and import it into Bento or FileMaker Pro (or other databases) but you will lose all formatting and calculation fields will bring over the result, not the calculation.

Converting Appleworks data bases
I have some data bases which I want to convert to other programs. What do you recommend--Excel? Or other programs? Any advice on how to do this? I greatly appreciate your help.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)I have some data bases which I want to convert to
other programs. What do you recommend--Excel? Or
other programs?
It depends on your needs. Excel is just a spreadsheet. So it's not good for things that a database is good at - data entry, reporting, searching, etc.
If you want to do more than store data in rows and columns I'd suggest looking at database programs like FileMaker Pro, 4D, Omnis, and friends. -
What program to replace a Data Base program like old AppleWorks?
Not sure if this is the correct discussion board, but I would like to find out what applications people are using to replace the AppleWorks Data Base program. In the past I have worked with File Maker Pro and the AppleWorks program. I see nothing like that in either iBook or Numbers.
Thanks,
DaveLike Dennis, I continue to use AppleWorks for what iWork doesn't do. I think that sooner or later a system upgrade may render AppleWorks useless or, at least, too unstable. I plan on keeping at least one Mac in the house running an OS AppleWorks works in.
In the meantime, I have left a few feedback posts to both the Numbers team or the Pages team. -
Appleworks freezes when attempting to change a data base field
In a data base I created, trying to change a number in one field will freeze Appleworks. A number can be entered, but any attempt to delete, add to or change the data in that one field causes a freeze. This does not happen in any other field in this data base, nor in any other document, as far as I know. This is a fairly recent problem, and did not occur when the data base was first created.
Is there a way to fix this without losing all the data in that field?
Thanks!Hi Yvan,
I'm sorry, but your link did not help my particular problem.
Can I make a list of the "freezing" field and an identifying second field, delete the problem field, and then re-enter the data in a newly created field? Being efficient (read lazy) I was trying to get away from having to re-enter all the data. There are only 384 records, but the thought of redoing even one field is mind-numbing.
Anyone else have a suggestion???
Thanks! -
Data base fields in browse mode
Appleworks v 6.2.9
Have data base with 54 fields. List mode fine, but in browse mode
only first 34 are viewable and therefore available for data entry.
When tab key is punched after data entered in 34th field cursor goes
back to 1st field rather than 35th field. Command and down arrow keys
brings up next record. Is there a keyboard shortcut or any other way
to enter data in fields 34-54 in browse mode? Using list mode for
that is too confusing because 1st field identifies record name and
once past 34th field it is no longer viewable.Hi Frank,
I'm assuming the Layout you are referring to is the default "Layout 1" that AppleWorks creates as you define the fields. This layout, or a "Standard" layout created through the New layout menu item in the Layout menu is a simple list of fields (with labels containing the field name) one above the other in a single column.
AppleWorks Database Layouts are restricted to a single page in the page size defined in Page Setup (File menu). With the default US Letter size page, at around 34 fields, the list runs into the bottom of the page, and no fields created after that are automatically inserted into the layout.
You can place more than 34 fields on a page, but you must contribute to the process.
With Layout 1 (or any other layout you wish to modify) showing, go Layout > Layout to put the document into Layout mode. (You can also do this by pressing shift-command-L.)
In Layout mode, select one or more of the fields (and labels) at the bottom of the page and drag them up and to the right into some empty space on the layout. New fields inserted onto the layout will be inserted in the space between the bottom-most field and the bottom of the layout/page, so the object of this exercise is to open up enough space at the bottom of your layout to insert the remaining 20 fields. It may take more tthan a single step to do this.
When you have all 54 fields on the page, rearrange them in the order and in the locations you want.
Note that the default tab order for a latout is from left to right then top to bottom, starting at the top left. If this order is not suitable, you can override it using the Tab Order... menu item in the Layout menu.

I have a new imac21.5 how do I open Appleworks6 Data Base files?
I have a new imac21.5 how do I open Appleworks6 Data Base files? And how do I access Quicken files?
You won't be able to use AppleWorks on that computer. You will need to open your AW database files on an older computer that can run AW6 then export your database files to a standard text format such as CSV or tab-delimited.
You can then import those files into some other database program such as iData 3.1.18.
Quicken does not currently work with Lion but Intuit has announced they will issue a new version sometime this year. You can try using another application that can import Quicken's datafiles or export the data to format other applications can use. Or you can switch to Quicken Essentials that does work with Lion. -
Apple Works Data Base Replacement
Recently got a MacBook Pro going from 10.6.8 to 10.8.3. I had used the data base program in Apple Works for MANY things. I was told I would need to buy iWorks, but I can't see that it has a data base program. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Transfer of xml file elements to data base columns

my db version is Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - ProductionHi,
What are you trying to achieve with a single WITH clause and no SELECT?
Please see this from the documentation if you want to use it properly :
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_10002.htm#i2077142
Apart from its true purpose of subquery factoring, the WITH clause is often use here and there to simulate a table content, but you'll always need a SELECT.
Maybe that's what you were trying to do?
As for your question, starting with release 10.2, Oracle provides XMLTable to shred XML documents into relational structures.
For example,
with t as (
select xmltype('<Message-Header>
<Message-Id>1234</Message-Id>
<Sender-Company-ID>4569</Sender-Company-ID>
<Sender-Company-Name>abc company</Sender-Company-Name>
<Sender-User-ID>AA</Sender-User-ID>
<Recv-Company-ID>050</Recv-Company-ID>
<Recv-Company-Name>XYZ pvt.ltd</Recv-Company-Name>
<Creation-Time>20101019 15:59:39</Creation-Time>
</Message-Header>') as xml from dual
select x.*
from t,
XMLTable(
'/Message-Header'
passing t.xml
columns
message_id number path 'Message-Id',
sender_company_id number path 'Sender-Company-ID',
sender_company_name varchar2(30) path 'Sender-Company-Name',
sender_user_id varchar2(30) path 'Sender-User-ID',
recv_company_id varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-ID',
recv_company_name varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-Name',
creation_time varchar2(30) path 'Creation-Time'
) x
;If you're working in PL/SQL, and the XML resides in a variable, you can directly do (with necessary datatype conversion in the SELECT) :
insert into your_table ( <your_columns_list> )
select <your_columns_list>
from XMLTable(
'/Message-Header'
passing your_xml_var
columns
message_id number path 'Message-Id',
sender_company_id number path 'Sender-Company-ID',
sender_company_name varchar2(30) path 'Sender-Company-Name',
sender_user_id varchar2(30) path 'Sender-User-ID',
recv_company_id varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-ID',
recv_company_name varchar2(30) path 'Recv-Company-Name',
creation_time varchar2(30) path 'Creation-Time'
) x

Im trying to build user expiration into my registration form, but I cant get the form to send back the date registering.
in my data base i have tried every thing from timestamp to datetime. I can get a timestamp but it is not functioning with the expiration?just have a look at my tutorial Login tables: installation & configuration where the required column attributes are explained and where you can obtain a fully functional SQL dump for a typical ADDT "login" and (optionally) "login_stats" table.
BTW, "expiration" will have to be an "int" column.

2.Employee service 5 - 10 years - 29 days entitlement.
when generating quota for employee less than five years its calculating correctly.when come's to employee more than 5 years its not calculating on pro-data basis of employee joining month. Instead of Month it's looking at the year and calculating it.

Differnace b/w SID and Global data base name
please tell me what is differance b/w SID and global data base name.
Hi,
Oracle System Identifier (SID)
A name that identifies a specific instance of a running pre-release 8.1 Oracle database. For any database, there is at least one instance referencing the database.
For pre-release 8.1 databases, SID is used to identify the database. The SID is included in the connect descriptor of a tnsnames.ora file and in the definition of the listener in the listener.ora file.

Global database name
The full name of the database which uniquely identifies it from any other database. The global database name is of the form "database_name.database_domain," for example, sales.us.acme.com.
The database name portion, sales, is a simple name you wish to call your database. The database domain portion, us.acme.com, specifies the database domain in which the database is located, making the global database name unique. When possible, Oracle Corporation recommends that your database domain mirror the network domain.
The global database name is the default service name of the database, as specified by the SERVICE_NAMES parameter in the initialization parameter file.
