AppleWorks docs not supported in QuickLook (Leopard)

I find it interesting that QuickLook in Leopard doesn't seem to support AppleWorks documents.
Anyone have an info about this, or a fix?

Is suspect it has to do with AppleWorks's age. AppleWorks is unable to take advantage of many of the OS X Services (listed in the Application menu), and I suspect Quicklook falls into the same category.
I doubt a fix is available.

Barry

  • Front Row does not support Airtunes in Leopard

Can anyone tell me if I am just doing something wrong or if Leopard does not support airtunes in the new and improved Front Row?

I'm having the same problem, and it's a big one as one of the main uses for my Mac Mini is as a media centre controlling iTunes via the remote!
I think the root of the problem is that previously (on 10.4) Front Row launched and used iTunes in the background and so it respected whatever setting was current in iTunes.
It seems to now be using something else (maybe QuickLook) to play it - at least I haven't noticed the same delay when using Front Row when iTunes isn't launched...
This is something that needs to be rectified soon because one of the driving reasons for my upgrade was the 'new' AppleTV-like Front Row.
This upgrade has made my Airport Express useless and is tempting me to downgrade and ask for a refund - removing functionality is not a way to get new customers!

Mac OS X 10.4.4 now comes in two varieties - one for PowerPC Macs and the other for Intel based Macs. For some reason, your Mac thinks it can't run PowerPC software like AppleWorks.
This would be a Mac OS X problem rather than an AppleWorks problem. While you could delete and reinstall AppleWorks, I'd be surprised if this fixed the problem. I'd be surprised if you weren't also having problems with other applications.
I'd suggest asking your question in the Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Forum.

Check the User Tips first, and then search the Using Mac OS X Tiger Forum. Post in that Forum if your search doesn't turn up an answer.

  • Deskjet 5650 "not supported by Snow Leopard"

I upgraded to 10.6.5 from 10.5.8 and lost my color printer, HP Deskjet 5650. According to HP, Snow Leopard does not support 5650. All I get is an "err" message in the printer queue.
Contributor countryone77 on November 3 seems to be able mostly to use his 5650 in Snow Leopard. I get nothing, including an inability to download drivers.
    Any suggestions?

Mac's 10.6 Printer and scanner software does not list Deskjet 5650. So, it appears that HP is right.

  • Apple USB Modem Not Supported in Snow Leopard Running 64-bit Kernel Mode

Has anyone been able to get the Apple USB Modem to work with Snow Leopard (SL) when running SL in 64-bit kernel mode? I get an error saying hardware not supported.

I would suggest you take this question up in the MacBook Pro forum or perhaps the Snow Leopard forum. This forum is for question about older, Pre-G3 Apple hardware and so not the forum where you'll be most likely to get a quick and applicable response.

  • 12.1 - AddMultiPageBitmap Rule  - UNIX - PDF & Word Doc Not Supporting

    Hi
I am trying to add a word/pdf document using the AddMultiPageBitmap Rule in Documaker 12.1 in Solaris . We use the PDFPrint Driver for generating the PDF Output. I see that rule works properly when we have a Tiff file to be added.
When we trying adding the PDF document , we don't see any error but the document doesnt get added.
For the word doccument , we get the below error and the document doesnt get added either:
DM20316: Error in AddMultiPageTIFF: An error occurred while attempting to load or include images from the TIFF <../mpath/eup.doc>.
Do we need to add any options in the INI file to support PDF/Word Document. Also the error files refers to "AddMultipageTIFF" even though we have used the AddMultiPageBitmap in the section.
    Rule : ADDMULTIPAGEBITMAP
    Data : File(../mpath/eup.doc)
We tried using the Type option for the PDF document as below , Not sure what should be used for the Word Document.
    Rule : ADDMULTIPAGEBITMAP
    Option I : Data : File(../mpath/eup.pdf) , TYPE(P)
    Option II : Data : File(../mpath/eup) , TYPE(P)
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Steven
You got it absolutely right. I set the TGC variable to the direkctory where the software was copied and it was able to import a PDF. As per the 12.0 rulebook(Page no :285: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17552_01/rul_book.pdf), the rule is expected to work for the .DOC file type (Microsoft Word). But when I try using a word document , the rule doesn't import the word doc. I tried the below options and none of them doesn't work.
    Option 1: File(/../eup.doc)
DM20316: Error in AddMultiPageTIFF: An error occurred while attempting to load or include images from the TIFF </../eup.doc>.
    Option 2: File(/../eup)
DM20316: Error in AddMultiPageTIFF: An error occurred while attempting to load or include images from the TIFF </../eup>.
    Option 3: File(/../eup) , TYPE(P)
No Error. But the word document doesnt get embeded in the PDF.
    Option 4: File(/../eup.doc) , TYPE(P)
    Error Type: syntaxerror
    Current Object: nostringval
    Module: psiparse.c
    Line Number: 203
    File Offset: 0
    WARNING: size==0 @ sysalloc.c # 251
    Unable to allocate image buffer
Also the infomation to import .DOC file type is available only in the 12. Manual . I couldn't see the support for .DOC type explicitily mentioned in the 12.1 rulebook.
    Please advise.
Once again , thanks a lot for your timely responses.

  • Windows XP not supported on Snow Leopard?

I have been reading through the forums and from what I've seen, I have gathered that Windows XP should be compatible with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and boot camp. However, when I have windows booted and I insert the Mac install disc to install the drivers, I get an error window telling me that Windows 7 is required.  Help?

    See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4410
I noticed that Early 2011 and newer MacBooks Pro can only use Windows 7, so if you have one of those computers, you can only use Windows 7 on Boot Camp. To install Windows XP, download Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox and install it on a virtual machine

  • In order to run Dragon, we upgraded our OSx to Maverick. Now we can't find our word processing program and Appleworks 6 is not supported. Doesn't a word processing program come with the upload of Maverick?

We upgraded our Mac OS X to a Maverick in order to run a Dragon Program. However, we no longer have a word processing program!  Appleworks is not supported.  Doesn't the upgraded Maverick have a word processing program included?

Not included.  You can purchase Pages in the App Store, or use a free word processor like Bean or a free office suite like  LibreOffice or OpenOffice (and there's also MicroSoft Office for Mac)

  • Transparent PNG not working in Snow Leopard w Final Cut 3.5&4

I recently changed from a G5 mac to a Mac Pro. I had FCE HD 3.5 which supposedly is not supported in Snow leopard..although it did work.
Anyways, when dragging a PNG or PICT image to the base video layer, then dragging a transparent background(white)character image to a layer on top of that...I remember when i was in Macos X Tiger with FCE 3.5, after selecting the top layer and setting composite mode to SCREEN.. it would perfectly make the white background transparent. Awesome..
Well that hasn't worked since i switched to Snow leoplard. I thought it was a problem because i had FCE 3.5 so i bought FCE 4 yesterday
So i decided to upgrade and still doesn't work.
Instead of getting a transparent BG.. the top video layer where i placed the PNG image of a character with a white bg still has the white bg..and the inside of the character is semi transparent..
    not what i want.
I even tried the new feature in FCE 4 where you go to Modify and Sepect ALPHA white. and that didn't work either.
What's going on.. ONly specific PNG formats have transparency in FCE???
By the way I'm exporting PNG out of a 3D program called DAZ Studio 3.That program doesn't have the ability to export as Animation CODEC( like in poser)or any other codec for that matter. it only exports movies as MOV or image series PNG or single PNG images.

    Hi -
Here is a correctly formated PNG file with transparency.
You can download it to test in your sequence by Control-Clicking and selecting "Download Linked File As . . ." from the drop down menu [HERE|http://www.spotsbeforeyoureyes.com/Test.png]
You simply need to place it on a video track above any other clip to see if the effect works or not.
Please post if this graphic works for you.

Just upgraded Tiger to Leopard.  Clarisworks not supported.   I can successfully convert CW4.0 doc's to AW6.0 doc's using MacLink Plus Deluxe and then work on them but the problem is that I cannot print them.  Neither can I convert to PDF.

If I was trying to get someone else to do my work,
I wouldn't be posting this saying what I have said
would I? I'm not unwilling to do the work myself. From what was stated in your OP, it seemed that you
were.I'm sorry if it seemed that way. I don't want something for nothing. I've spent MANY hours, which I don't have, trying to work this out. I have hit a point where I don't think my expertise is going to solve the problem. That's why I've turned to some experts who might say something along the lines of, "Hey, I know what that is...you're compiling against... and on the Unix box, it's compiling against..." I was NOT looking for something like, "See the code below that fixes your problem."
The only problem is that I don't have direct access
to the sun unix machines I'm running the app on,
so I can't run a profiler on it. Ah, okay. So the only knowledge you have of how it
performs on those machines is from your instructor
running it and then telling you how long it took? No. I can SSH into the servers and run the program from a command line. But I wouldn't be able to install any profiler programs.
You could ask your prof to run it with -Xprof or
-Xhprof or whatever. Or you could put in a bunch of
timing statements to get a rough idea of which parts
are making it take that extra 39 minute or whatever.is -Xprof a java command line option? If so, I will look into doing that. Maybe it's available on the machines at school. Thanks for that input.

Word Processing documents can be opened directly in Pages 4 (AppleWorks 6 only) but this is no longer available from Apple - the new Pages 5 (Mavericks required) does not open AppleWorks documents. (The older version is contained in the iWork '09 box set which may still be available from Amazon and other independent retailers.) Panergy Software's docXConverter v3.2 ($19.95) can convert Appleworks 5 and 6 Word Processing documents to RTF (though it has been reported that it can only handle documents which contain only text, not those which include images or frames). The latest version of the free LibreOffice has announced that it can open AppleWorks 6 Word Processing documents and an ability to open ClarisWorks documents has been reported: it does appear to be able to handle at least some embedded images.
Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings). LibreOffice will open simple Draw documents but I found it very unreliable with complex ones.
Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in the older versions of  Numbers - the new version for Mavericks will not do this. The old version is no longer available from Apple. (Again, the older version is contained in the iWork '09 box set which may still be available from Amazon and other independent retailers.)
Presentations can be opened directly only in the older versions Keynote; again, the new version for Mavericks will not do this. The old version is no longer available from Apple. (The older version is contained in the iWork '09 box set which may still be available from Amazon and other independent retailers.)
Nothing will open Database documents. You would need to export the data as ASCII and import it into another database program; you will lose your formatting and calculations will come over as the result, not the calculation.

  • I've just upgraded to "Lion" from "Snow Leopard" which to my surprise does not support "Appleworks" I've used Appleworks for a number of years for all correspondence etc. and need to continue using this software. Do I need to go back to Snow Leopard?   d

I've just upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard and to my surprise it does not support my 'Appleworks' application software. Ihave used Appleworks for all correspondence for six years and need to refer to the files (letters etc.) from time to time. Is my only option to revert back to Snow Leopard?

The reason appleworks no longer runs is because it is a powerpc based application.  Since it's end-of-life in 2007, it was never converted to intel architecture, since it was dropped as a supported product.  It continued to run on intel machines via rosetta, but OS X Lion formally discontinues all support for powerpc based programs.  Powerpc based applications can only be run on OS X 10.6.8 or earlier releases (ones that still support rosetta).
So, it does sound like your best option is to move to iWorks' Pages now - otherwise you will be stuck with an increasingly more outdated operating system.  And if you should buy a new machine, it would not run the older versions of OS X anyway, so at some point you have to leave appleworks behind and move on.  Seems best to do it now, before Pages perhaps also moves forward to a point where it too may no longer support ancient file formats.

  • I am unable to sync my iPhone4 iCal to my Mac iCal. Snow Leopard does not support the Cloud. What do I do?

I am unable to sync my iPhone4S iCal to my Mac iCal. Snow Leopard is my OS and it does not support the cloud. What do I do?

To makeuse of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • HT5248 how do I import an Appleworks document from Appleworks 6 PC power support is not supported

I am unable to access some appleworks 6 documents saved onto a flash drive.  I was told pages would fix this and I downloaded the software.
I don't know how to access the information, just clicking on the document on my flash drive still gives me the same error message "Appleworks PC power6 is not supported.

Did you install Pages? Drag the word document from your flash drive onto your desktop. Then try double clicking it or launch Pages and choose "Open" in the file menu. Note: Pages can read word documents; Numbers can read spreadsheets, but nothing can read painting documents. If you still have access to a Snow Leopard installation, I'd open them there and then save them in another format.

  • AS I  FOUND OUT LATE, LION DOES NOT SUPPORT ROSETTA, WHICH SUPPORTS QUICKEN AND CLASSIC AOL, AND MANY OTHER APPS. CAN I TAKE LION AWAY AND GO BACK TO SNOW LEOPARD?

I found out after the install of LION, that it does not support Rosetta, which runs Quicken and the classic AOL software and a myriad of other apps.
Can I go back to Snow Leopard? Is there a way to retrieve my thousands of saved E mails, which are saved on my Mac?
I still see the filing cabinet with my screen name but cannot get them to open.
Please help! Lion may roar, but the fact it does not support apps like quicken means it purrs.

I had the Apple store wiped out my hard drive and I restore my last hard drive downloard by first placing Snow leopard DVD in the DVD drive and holding "C" when turning on the machine then I follow the instructions. I am back on snow leopard and trying out two finance software to replace Quicken for mac 2007. I am trialing Quicken essentials and ibank. They are both compatable with LION. So when I am ready will download Lion again. Also, Micorsoft Office needs to be 2011 version for it to work on Lion
