Appleworks document attachment gets corrupted

Trying to email an Appleworks document from my G4 to my iBook. The iBook doesn't have an email account - I retrieve mail from my ISP server with Safari. By the time I download it, it's not recognized as an Appleworks document and can't be converted to one or opened in any other application. I've tried with and without the .cwk on the end. Any suggestions (other than burning a CD)?
thanks,
david

Try using "Create Archive" from the file menu of Finder to create a compressed version of the file, then send the archive as the attachment. This sometimes helps.

  • How to open an Appleworks document created in the classic mode with a one year old iMac using 10.6.8

Trying to open a 10 year old Appleworks document. Get a dialog box that the Classic Mode is not supported on this machine. Is there a way to work around this problem and open the doc?

Try dropping the document onto the icon for AW 6.2.9; or use the Open item in AW 6.2.9's File menu.
Provided the document is in AW 5.x or later format, it should b openable in AW 6.
If the document is in AW 6.x format, it should also be able to be opened by Pages.

When I try to open an Appleworks document or try to open Appleworks itself, I get a dialog box stating: "Appleworks 6 Quit Unexpectedly". I have Appleworks 6.2.9 and my OS is 10.6.8. Any suggestions?
    Many thanks

There was a security update through Software Update a couple of months ago for 10.6.8 that caused this kind of problem for PPC applications. Apple issued a revised update a couple of days later. So my first suggestion is to run Software Update to make sure you have the updated update. You can also manually download the updater at this link.
Whenever AppleWorks quits unexpectedly or you force quit it, there will be some corruption of its preferences.
To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them.

  • "corrupted" appleworks documents

I've got word processing documents saved in .cwk format and have been unable to open them for some time. What happens is: when I click to open, I get that colorful circle spinning around and then sometimes the document opens (more often it doesn't). Then, I quickly copy and save it as a new word document; when I try to close the .cwk file, it won't close on its own and I have to use 'force quit.' Sometimes after I use force quit, I am able to open another appleworks document. I then go through the same thing: use force quit and try to open another document. I went to the local Mac store and they told me it's "corrupted" and that I should get iwork 09. I did that but it hasn't changed things. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I doubt that your documents are corrupt. I think you've been "bitten" by the "Recent Items bug" that has been around since AppleWorks 6 was released in March, 2000. It can make it appear that AppleWorks has frozen or failed to launch. The user tip by Dale Gillard, AppleWorks slow? Spinning ball appears?, explains a lot.
Since you've force quit AppleWorks, there has also likely been some corruption of the AppleWorks preferences. Anytime AppleWorks crashes or is force quit it's a very good idea to delete the AppleWorks preferences.

For no cost, you can try the open-source productivy suite LibreOffice. I don't have any AW files here to test but there are reliable reports that LibreOffice can open at least some AW files:

  • How to read/get the document attached to PO line item

    Hi experts,
I got a requirement wherein I need to read/get the document attached at PO line item and to send that document through mail as an attacment .
please suggest me how to proceed on this.

actually your are picking up the correct data from Table EKET (EKET-EINDT) but your are printing that in item data loop for EKET might have already executed in your script and the header of that internal table consist the last entry of the table so for that. Fetch the delivery date explicite from the Table EKET when your in item level processing and print that.
For Example u can use this code.
To print you have write the this code in Script item level printing window "MAIN" window
Following perform is called to get the line item delivery date in PO
    {/: PERFORM GET_DEL_DATE IN PROGRAM ZPerform_prog
    /: USING &EKPO-EBELN&
    /: USING &EKPO-EBELP&
    /: CHANGING &DEL_DATE&
    /: ENDPERFORM}
    {* Dellivery date &DEL_DATE& }
write the below code in the Z program "ZPerform_prog"
    { FORM get_del_date  TABLES in_par STRUCTURE itcsy
                             out_par STRUCTURE itcsy.
READ TABLE in_par WITH KEY 'EKPO-EBELN'.
      CHECK sy-subrc = 0.
      $_po_no = in_par-value.
READ TABLE in_par WITH KEY 'EKPO-EBELP'.
      CHECK sy-subrc = 0.
      $_po_line = in_par-value.
      SELECT *

  • Webi documents get corrupted

    Hi all,
I'll try to explain the situation and hope anyone can help on it.
I am at a customer with verson 3.1. Thery are using liveoffice and xcelsius and they call webi documents from xcelsius. The strange thing is that after a while the webi document get corrupted, the universe assigned to the document seems to be missing and all the documents give up working. If you copy the universe and reassing the universe to the document it works again.
The errors we are getting are WIS 30270 processDPcommands and also with the API getblob. I have been looking but did not find any solution.
Has anyone faced something like this?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi Jaun,
Following information might help you to resolve the issue.
1.Business Objects Enterprise provides thresholds to protect the Web Intelligence report server and the Web Application servers from processing large chunks of binary and character data and avoid crashing.
Maximum Binary File Size: Maximum size of a binary file (for example: PDF, XLSu2026) that can be generated by the Report Server. If a binary file generated from a Web Intelligence document is greater than this limit, the generation is stopped to protect the server and an error is returned. Increase this limit if the server has to generate large binary files (for example, if Info View users view large documents in *.PDF format).
Maximum Character File Size: Maximum size of a text stream (for example: HTML, XML) that will be transferred to the application server. If a text stream sent to the application server is greater than this limit, the generation is stopped to protect the server and an error is returned.
In CMC, under Servers>Web Intelligence Report server, you can possibly set both the above values to 50MB, but you have to ensure that the application server can handle the increased load multiplied by the number of simultaneous connections. If not, it can crash and block all access to applications.
    2. Ensure that the Web Application servers have enough memory available to process incoming requests. Usually the -Xmx value for java process is set at 256Mb, which is recommended to be at least 1024Mb or more depending on your Export requirements and application server limitations.

  • Appleworks Document Corruption?

    Hello,
I would like to export Appleworks documents located on an OS9 drive, to a 10.4.11 drive with an updated version of iWork '08.
I've read on this site that importing Appleworks documents to OSX can create formatting errors. I would like to know if there is a process to assure a seamless transition.
    Thank you for your time.
    J.C.

I'm not sure what you mean by "formatting errors" or "AppleWorks Document Corruption."
If your AppleWorks document is a word processing one made/last saved with AppleWorks 6, Pages will open it. Because AppleWorks does not normally add its .cwk extension to the file name, Pages is likely not going to recognize it as an AppleWorks file &, therefore, one it can open. You can set AppleWorks' preferences to add the .cwk extension in Preferences > General > Files. You can also add the .cwk extension to the file name in the Finder in either OS 9 or OS X. In OS X, see this user tip for information for adding the extension to whole folders of files at one time.
It is best to use a Mac-formatted drive or disk to transfer the file. Burning them to a CD is a good way to create a backup at the same time.

  • Photos keep getting corrupted in Lightroom Catalog - Help!

Photos in my LR Catalog (usually over a year old) keep getting corrupted.  When I go to a dated folder, a strip comes up with the photos. Some of them are fine, some of them have an "!" on the photo saying "An error occured when working with this file."  So I try to "EDIT IN PS."  It will allow me to choose "Edit a Copy" and so when PS tries to open it, the error message says "The document may be damaged. File may be truncated or incomplete."  I open anyway, and it shows fine 2/3 or 3/4 of the way down, then it gets chunky....like someone cut off the bottom of the photo and bumped it up a bit.  I will attach a photo.  HOW can I keep this from happening???  I have my catalog on a Seagate external drive because my laptop can't handle all the space it would take up.  I always wait until it says I can eject, although it almost NEVER says that, even after being left for HOURS, so I shut down the computer, then unplug the hard drive.  I would love some help, because this keeps happening!!!

I tried opening one of the affected photos directly into Photoshop without using LR first.  It looks like this.

  • AppleWorks documents not opening

So I don't really know what I am doing. I have a really old version of Apple Works on my old computer and have taken all the documents from it and put them on my MBP. I have not bought Word, Page 2, or Apple Works. Any suggestions on which one I should purchase? I was thinking I would get the Page 2.
I have the 30 trial for the Word but I cannot open any of my AppleWorks documents. How do I get these open and save them in a way that is compatible with Word or Page 2?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions michaeldurant
Other than the fact that your document won't open, your question/problem is not the same as the original poster's (OP's) & it would have been best for you to start a new topic.
256 MB of RAM in OS X is minimal & 512 MB is still on the low side when working with documents with a lot of graphics. The amount of space the documents takes up on your hard drive, 55 MB for yours, is not the same as how much RAM it will use, although the bigger the file size, the more the application & system resources will be taxed. I have a database with photos in a multimedia field that takes 87.3 MB on my hard drive. Checking in Activity Monitor (in the Utilities folder), Real Memory for AppleWorks goes from 15 MB to 41+ MB after opening the DB.
It's possible that one or more of the pictures you added in the last week are corrupt. If you have AutoSave turned on in Preferences & can remember when the last time you were able to successfully open this file, you may be able to find a copy more recent than the 35 MB one. Look in Documents > AppleWorks User Data > AutoSave where you will find documents with files with long names consisting of letters & numbers. Sort the folder by date in List view & try opening one.
Since this is a word processing document, if you have Pages (part of iWork) installed, Pages may be able to open it. Also, a text editor may help recover any raw text, not the pictures, if you need to rebuild the file.
I don't know how you are putting the pictures in the file or what format the pictures are. AppleWorks does best with graphics in PICT format. Even though the PICT files themselves are larger in the Finder, the resulting AppleWorks file will be smaller &, probably, less likely to corrupt. I use GraphicConverter to convert graphics to PICT for use in AppleWorks, but you can also use Preview.
Please post back whether or not any of these work.

  • Document attachment won't open in pages

I have installed pages on my iPad 2 and when I am emailed a document, PDF,doc, ppt, I don't have the option to open it in pages. The only option I get it to print it. Shouldn't I be able to move into pages from my mail program?

If the document is a word doc (.doc) or a pages document (.pages) and you have properly installed Pages on your iPad, you should see an option to Open In... when you tap and hold.
You can't open .ppt documents unless you have Keynote installed
You can't open PDFs unless you have a PDF reader installed.
Since you have installed Pages on your iPad, and it isn't working, I would suggest trying two things:
    1. Do a full shutdown and restart - double click your home button, tap and hold on one of the running apps icons until you see them all wiggle and offer a "-" badge, then tap each "-" badge to shut them down. Then click and hold the Home and Sleep Buttons until you see the shutdown slider - Shutdown. Wait a minute or so then restart your iPad. You will see the Apple Logo appear. When the iPad is restarted, open your Mail app and tap and hold on your email attachment and see what happens.
    2. If that doesn't fix the problem (and the attachment is a .doc or pages document), the next step would be to do a full reset and restore, but try the first action before you get that far.
You might contact the sender to confirm the type of document you have received. Can't hurt. Sometimes things get corrupted - ask them to resend in a format that you can read. See the iOS iPad User Guide (found under the Bookmarks Icon in your Safari app) - see the section on Mail Attachments.
If you don't have Keynote or Numbers installed, I would recommend them or other apps that can read your email attachments such as OpenDocs, etc.
Also, if you don't have iBooks, it is worth the download.
    Good Luck.

  • Office 2007 attachments getting corrupted in PO Print Program

    HI SRM Experts,
We are having SRM 5.0 Classic Scenario and EHP 4.0 ECC 6.0, we have a customized PO Print Program which after PO approval send notification to vendor & requestor of cart with the attachments.
We are facing problem that when requester attaches MS 2007 attachments(having 4 characters as extension) it is converting these into default 3 character extension and thus they get corrupted. I have already made settings in DMS (DC30).
Can anyone please help here to know if any SAP note is there for the same as I feel that we cannot change the ABAP program/code mentioned in standard Function module. Here is my finding after the debugging:
The Function module 'CV120_KPRO_MASTER_DATA_GET' is responsible for returning the document type.
It is returning the extension in field dappl of table ptx_data which is of type CHAR3.
So it is not accepting the extension of CHAR4.

  • How did I mess up my AppleWorks documents?

Doing some "housecleaning" on my Mac. There were these files that had a strange icon, and get info said they were terminal applications. However, from the file name I knew I had created them in 1998 or 1999, almost certainly with AppleWorks (possibly SimpleText but I doubt it). Maybe AppleWorks 5, not sure.
These had me puzzled for quite a while. TextEdit and AppleWorks 6 wouldn't touch them. TextEdit responded with "The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -10814)." However, in Terminal I could get pico to open them.
I solved the problem by adding the .cwk extension to them. Now AppleWorks and TextEdit are ok with them.
But-- I must know-- what went wrong with them? I have lots of even older AppleWorks documents that didn't lose their identity.
    PowerMac G4 Cube   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You said "especially if you use a PC-formatted disk
for the transfer" which makes a lot of sense. Do you
know what circumstances will lose the resource fork
    when transferring from Mac-formatted media?
Only general corruption should cause the resource fork to be lost. That's because the Mac formatted media knows older documents have both a data fork and a resource fork. PC formatted media lives in a universe all its own and believes every document only has a data fork.
My other question is, since TextEdit didn't recognize
the files, is there a GUI app that will open
    "confused" files more readily?
Generally speaking, no program can guess what type a file is. (The exception is graphic programs because the first line of the image file often says what type it is.) I'd suggest using the Finder's File > Get Info window as it will suggest what programs will open a file, and you can use it to change what program opens a file.

Can you open the Preview program without loading a file, like by itself?
If it doesn't load then I suspect a corrupt Preview preference file.
