Appleworks/Microsoft Word 2003?

I would like to transfer my Microsoft 2003 Word files from my old PC to my new Imac Core Duo. I know they will transfer to Mac Word, but will they transfer to Appleworks. Appleworks is a little cheaper than Mac Word.
Thanks

I know icWord isn't a word processor. I suggest it for opening those Word files that AppleWorks & Pages won't open. Save the file as AppleWorks in icWord, open it in AppleWorks or Pages, save it then Save As... (AppleWorks) or Export (Pages) as Word. Even though these programs choke on Word 2003 (it's a Microsoft issue), I have never had a problem opening files saved from them in Word on my work PC (whatever "flavor" we're using). If you don't want to spend $20 for icWord, look at one of the free Office clones.
I recommend saving a file in the native format of the word processor you are using first before Save As... or Export as a safety issue. Should anything happen in the process, you'll always have the original to fall back on.

  • Printing microsoft word 2003 document and pdf created from the document are different

I created a microsoft word 2003 document with jpg pictures and printed it on my HP Inkjet printer. I then created a pdf by saving as a pdf from the microsoft word 2003 document. The settings for images were 300 dpi and zip compression. The pdf file created was ~3 MB whereas the word document was ~250 KB. It looked fine on the screen but when I printed it the jpg pictures from the pdf were very dark and not very desirable. When I printed it on my HP Color laser 2600n printer I couldn't see the difference in the jpg pictures.
I am creating the pdf files to send to the online publisher lulu.com to print. I have used the settings to create the pdf they recommend from their website; however they aren't real clear in the information they give for the recommended settings.
My question is why would the print out be so awful using the HP Color Ink Jet printer since it is very good for printing pictures?

There are many reasons, but most revolve around the color space and coding for the colors. Acrobat uses 8 bit RGB.

  • Making non-standard size pdfs from Microsoft Word 2003 on pc

I have Acrobat 8 Professional (pc, Windows XP op system), and want to know how to make a pdf from Microsoft Word (2003) where the dimensions of my document remain as they are, a non-standard size, such as 5.5" x 8.5". All the choices of "paper size" are standard only, and if I check "Custom" and type in the non-standard dimensions, it doesn't work. In other programs, such as InDesign, I can make a pdf of any document size I want with no problems. Does anyone know how to make this work for Word on pc?

You can create a custom page size for Acrobat.
    In Word:
File > Print (choose AdobePDF) > Properties.
On the Adobe PDF Document Properties tab, choose Add next to Adobe PDF Page Size.
Type in a name for your new custom page size and type in your dimensions.
Click Add/Modify to close that window, then select your newly created paper size from the drop down.
Click Ok to close that window
    Click OK to print
For future printing, you would not have to redefine the page, just choose it from the dropdown.

  • E-mail document from Microsoft Word 2003

I am not able to compose a document in Microsoft Word 2003 and e-mail it from there.  The format is available and so is the send button.  The message is just not sent.

I now use Verizon wireless rather than cable.  Do  you think the problem may be with Verizon?
Nope. There would be no difference there.
Do you have Outlook 2003 as well as Word 2003?
Do you use it or Windows Mail for your email?
Whichever it is, set that as the default. See this Microsoft page.

  • POI Reading Microsoft Word 2003 docs

Anybody having success reading Microsoft Word 2003 documents using POI? I just tried it for the first time today. I've got a compound document with lots of pages and an embedded Excel spreadsheet. POI found seven DocumentEntries, but the bytes I extract are gibberish when I print them. Any advice? Thanks - %

The WordDocument that once was part of POI no longer appears.
I have been able to get something out of POI, but it's not 100% useable. So I went and downloaded OpenOffice.org's SDK. I think it's even more convoluted and unusable.

  • OfficeJet 4110 Using Microsoft Word 2003

The printer is attached to computer with USB; trying to print sheets of labels using Microsoft Word 2003 mailing merge.
It will only print 1 address on 1 label at a time.
How do I set the printer to print a sheet of labels with different addresses on each label?
    Thank you!

As I stated in my previous post, I reverted back to Adobe 7 on the computer
I use every day, but I apologize for not mentioning another alternative. I
still needed the ability to read Adobe 9 files that I could not open with
Adobe 7 and I still needed the ability to complete fillable PDFs that would
not fill with Adobe 7, so instead of requesting a refund (which you already
know is a pain in the behind), I installed Adobe 9 on a newer computer at my
office that is running Windows 7. For some reason, the problems with MS Word
2003 do not occur when running Adobe 9 in Windows 7 environment. So, when I
have an Adobe file I cannot read or fill, I have the person who uses that
computer, read or fill that Adobe file for me. I did not upgrade to Windows
7 on the computer I use every day because "Act! for Advisors" which I use
for my work is not very compatible with Windows 7 unless I upgraded that
program, too. I don't know about you, but I avoid upgrading my operating
system until I absolutely have to because the transition has always been
very time consuming and quite an ordeal for me.

  • Saving from Windows Microsoft Word 2003 and ACL !

    hi
    the situation:
If I save directly from the Word to a Network-drive I get a strange behaviour of the ACL's !
the file get added ACL 'Users' and an other 'Everyone' the from the parent folder inherited ACL tbsxuser will be tripled !
If I copy the same file from the desktop to the Network-drive the behaviour is like expect !
    OSX Server 10.5.5
    WIN XP SP2
    Microsoft Word 2003 SP3
    any solution for that

    Hi!
I have the same problem with Office 2007. On a share I have set ACL "Domain Users Read/Write" to propagate to all directories. The POSIX rights are set to "rw" for owner/group/others. When I save an Excel file to the shared directory, the following happens:
    - POSIX rights are all turned off to none
    - the creator, Users, and Everyone will get ACL entries (read/write, read only, and read-only)
    - Domain Users ACL is present 4 times
After the next save the Domain Users ACL is present 10 times, one more time and there are 22 entries.
It is clearly a problem with Office. Notepad doesn't change the file permissions. I have not yet tried different locking settings. Currently both strict and oportunistic locks are set on.
Also I'd like to add that this strange behaviour happens both on 10.5.6 and 10.4.11, I just tested this.
I think it would be good to be able to see if the same happens on a Windows Server share but I need to figure out how to test it. File Properties in Windows Explorer doesn't show multiple ACLs even though Mac Server Admin shows they are there.

  • Is Acrobat Standard 10 incompatible with Windows Microsoft Word 2003, v 11.8?

An Acrobat Add-In has to be disabled for me to open a Word file.  If the Add-In is disabled I cannot create a .pdf.  The error dialog box attributes the problem to a runtime error due to program c:\program files\microsoft office\office11\winword exe.  An associated dialog box says that Runtime is shutting down Adobe Acrobat 10 early because the security is too high.  But putting Word Macro Security setting on medium and then on low doesn't help.  Nor does telling a Microsoft security box that Adobe.com is a trusted site.  I have spent critical hours trying to fix this, without result.  I would appreciate whatever help I can get.  I didn't have any trouble creating .pdf files with Acrobat 9.  Tks. DWI.

Word 2003 is compatible with the PDF Maker macro for Acrobat X Std. What OS are you running? Have you tried to load the PDF Maker macro manually?
    Exit all programs.
Select Tools > Customize, and click the Commands tab.
Click Tools in the Categories panel.
Drag COM Add-ins from the Commands panel to the Tools menu while holding down the mouse button. When the Tools menu displays the menu commands, drag COM Add-ins just below the Customize option, and then release the mouse button.
    Click Close.
Click COM Add-ins on the Tools menu.
Click Add, locate the add-in (the PDFMaker Add-in is at [Acrobat Installation Path]\PDFMaker\Office\PDFMOfficeAddIn.dll), and click OK.
Press Alt+F11 to start the Visual Basic Editor.
Press Ctrl+G to start the Immediate Window of Visual Basic Editor.
To start PDFMaker in Word, type Application.COMAddIns("PDFMaker.OfficeAddin").Connect = True. Close the Visual Basic Editor.
Verify that the Adobe PDF menu now appears to the right of Help on the Microsoft Word menu bar.
Also, renaming the global template file, Normal.dot, sometimes helps resolve the issue. There are instructions at the bottom of this article from Microsoft that explain how to do this.

  • Microsoft Word 2003 Conflict

I installed Adobe Standard 9 this weekend and it appears to be conflicting with Microsoft Word. I can no longer double-click on a Word file to open it, I can move the cursor in Word document using the left button on my mouse, and I can no longer highlight text in a Word document using the left button on my mouse. I can still move the cursor and highlight text using the arrow keys. There were some Microsoft security updates that I installed about the same day, but I have uninstalled those with no effect. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Thanks.

  • I'm using an iBook G4. I'm having a problem with a lengthy Microsoft Word (2003) document crashing. It keeps telling me that there's a problem and then working and working. I have to do a forced shutdown.

I'm using an iBook G4. I'm having a problem with a lengthy Microsoft Word document. It keeps freezing when I try to make a change in it. The computer is working and working. Then I have to use a forced shutdown. And it starts all  over again. Suggestions?

Is there sufficient free space on the iBook's startup disk (typically called Macintosh HD)?  The OS and apps use free space to write temporary files, and it free space becomes too low, it can cause the Mac to bog down.  Low free space also makes whatever free space is left fragment into tiny pieces scatter all over the hard drive, making the problem even worse.  If it more than 90% full, you should free up some space.

  • Checkbox macros not working in Microsoft Word 2003

Using Visual Basic Editor, I made an Employee Performance Review form that automatically calculates an employee's total score as check boxes are checked. Everything worked perfectly when I made it, but since saving and closing the program, the check boxes
no longer work. They only show up as pictures - not as working check boxes that can be clicked. They don't even have a "properties" option. The document was saved as a "Word 2007 Macro-enabled Document" and the security settings on my computer
are set to "Medium" so that Word asks me if I want to enable macros when the document is opened. Regardless of whether or not I click "enable" or "do not enable," the check boxes won't work. I made another quick document with
check boxes to see if it had the same problem and it does as well. As soon as the document is saved, closed, and re-opened, the check boxes are deactivated. What am I doing wrong?

  • Help!! Cannot read pdf files in Microsoft Word 2003.

Everytime I download a document and try to open up a box opens up an says file conversion ms-dos word document (default) and some others as well. I've tried all and still will not work. There are a lot of letters and sybols that come up. whats the problem? I tried installing adobe and acrobat over and over .

You have to provide a bit more information than that.  Your OS, your browser, what is causing that conversion - a browser extension?
If "something" converts a downloaded PDF doc to MS Word format, then that is not a problem of Acrobat or Reader.
Can you provide a screenshot of that po-up - perhaps we can find out what is causing that conversion.

  • Can not save on appleworks, microsoft word, or audacity

Theres a list of programs that do not allow me to save documents. I can open up existing documents, and start new blank documents, but as soon as I go file > save, or file > save-as the program shuts down and says the application quit unexpectedly. It won't even bring me to the point where I can select where I want to save it on my computer. I tried to change the preferences so that it automatically saves to a folder other than Documents, but it quit unexpectedly then too. I'm able to save files from other programs into the Documents folder though. I can download email attachments into the Documents folder. I can also save garage band files in Documents. So I don't know what the deal is. Any one have any ideas?
    Thanks

The main idea is that this is pretty unlikely to be an AppleWorks issue at all but, perhaps, something with the way your system is handling Save dialogues. I can't think of any specific user-addressable issue that would be causing that for multiple (but not all) applications, but am pretty sure that if I were seeing that I'd be asking in one of the OS forums rather than this one.
Try Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger
