Appleworks prints unwanted shading

I am printing to an HP Color LaserJet 2500n over a small office network. The document is a draw document set up as an Office Memo. It has boxes on it created in AW draw. Prior to AW 6.2.9, the boxes printed white as intended. After installing 6.2.9, the boxes print with a light, off-white, cream colored shading. This happens from both an eMac and a G5 Tower running AW 6.2.9. and OS 10.4.3. A recently purchased iMac G5 running AW 6.2.9 and OS 10.4.3 prints the same document correctly, that is, with a white (or no color) box.
Any ideas?

Appleworks Printing Problem

Hi,
I recently bought a Brother DCP 7020 Laser printer and I have been very pleased with it. Alas when I tried printing a file created in Appleworks today I found that when I clicked on Print and then attempted to change the print quality from Normal to Fine under the Print Settings menu things did not work. In fact, when I clicked on the radio button beside Fine instead of the blue color with black dot moving from Normal to Fine they both held the blue active color. When I next clicked on Super Fine it too showed the blue color with black dot signifying it was the active choice.
While Apple supposedly rose to his present position by offering computer users more choices, I have a feeling that even ole Steve wouldn't try to print out a single file as Normal, Fine, and Super Fine all at the same time.
I've tried printing things in Safari, Pages, Quicken, etc. with no problem. Only in Appleworks do I run into this problem. I tried fixing permisions etc. all to no avail.
Anybody know what's going on here?

After I posted my problem I dug into things a bit more and this is what I came up with. When I want to print something in Appleworks I open the file I want to print, then go to File, print. When the print dialog box comes up I click on Copies and Pages and then instead of clicking on Print Settings the way I do in all my other applications I click on Appleworks. Then I go to the Presets and select the preset that I want to use, e.g. Laser Normal, Laser Super Fine, etc. For some reason I can not create a preset while in Appleworks as when I go to Print Settings I experience the problem already mentioned in my earlier post.
All of this may make sense to you?? But I have to say that although I managed to get things to print out the way I want them to I have no idea why I have to select Appleworks rather than Print Settings.
I would love to have you attempt an explaination.

Appleworks Print Quality Question

I am using Appleworks 6.2.4 and iPhoto 7.1.5. I have been trying to put together an Appleworks (drawing) document that includes a photo that I exported from iPhoto. I have tried various exports, various printer settings (using a Cannon i960 photo printer)but no matter what I do I cannot get the imported photo to print in as nice a quality as it prints when I print straight from iPhoto.
I have tried:
-exporting as "current" quality from iPhoto (1.2 meg file) and using Appleworks scale by percentage to reduce to 4x6 size.
-exporting as JPEG at medium (24 k), high (32 k), and maximum quality (120 k) and printing without adjusting size in Appleworks at all.
Surely this can be done, iPhoto is able to reduce the photo to 4x6 size and print crisply, why is it so difficult to get Appleworks to do the same?

AppleWorks changes the resolution of all graphic formats except PICT to 72 dpi. There are a couple of things you can do improve the print quality of images.
1. Turn on Fractional Character widths in Preferences > General > Topic: Text. This is a text setting, but it does improve the print quality of images.
Open the image in Preview (32-bit) or GraphicConverter & Save As... a PICT to use in AppleWorks. PICT is generally the best format to use for inserting or pasting into AppleWorks.

Appleworks printing in different colors

When I use Appleworks, it's in blue ink and sometimes green. When it prints, it prints in these colors. I just want black. How do I switch it to black?

For that do the following steps.
1) Keep the next page of page1 as PAGE2.
2) Keep the next page of PAGE2 as PAGE2.
3) Keep a counter(lcount) in the table from which you are printing the data and keep incrementing it for every loop pass.
4) Before looping the table use describe table statement to get the number of records present in that internal table and store in another variable(rcount).
5) Then right click on the table footer and there create a COMMAND and there in the condiitons give as
rcount = lcount.
so because of that the data will print properly and when once all the data is over the command will be triggered and it will automatically go to the last page.

My HP2025 prints unwanted pages from web crawlers.

Everday I find at least 3 unwanted pages have been printed by my HP2025 printer. The text usually only consists of the address for a website plus a few lines of text. Here is one of the more frequent examples:

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 98)
I've been told that this due to an open internet port on the printer being hit by a webcrawler and the printer interprets this as a request to print something.
Does anyone know of a way to block this from happening?

All printing is shaded

I just updated to os x v10.9.1 mavericks. Every document I print no matter what it is (PDF, Numbers, Word, Pages) has text shading. When I open a document it looks fine but once I send to print it shows and prints with shadows...very strange. My printer is a HP Photosmart C4780 and I unistalled and reinstalled it twice.
Anyone have any ideas. It might be something easy but I cant figure it out.

Appleworks print prob

I've had a problem printing images from appleworks with my new HP printer. There are pale or dark stripes running through images. HP did worked through a series of tests with me, and concluded that it was a mechanical prob with the printer. They sent me a new printer, but the problem persists. It must be Appleworks. Does anyone know of this happening before, and of any solutions? The stripes are always in the same place on individual images, even if I place several separate images around the page.

HP printers are notorious around here for not "playing nice" with AppleWorks (& they don't do very well with Pages, either). The usual suggestions are to make sure you have the most recent printer driver from HP's web site & to delete the AppleWorks preferences. HP Laserjet 4 Prints unwanted page on start!!

The first time I print after I first turn on the printer it insists on printing a page with often just the letter "M" ot "1M" in the top L/H corner.
It certainly never used to. I dont know what this is or how to stop it.
The PC has been rebuilt several times so it's not picking it up from there.
Can anyone tell me what it is and how to stop it?

Officejet J6480 - Always prints unwanted copies, Windows 7

Concerning the HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One:
Everytime I print a document, it always prints 4 copies even when I specify only 1 copy. Amidst the printing, I always have to manually cancel the print after the first copy is finished. It's also strange because, suppose that I'm printing a 1 page document, in the printer status window, the number of pages reads "4/1".
So, I recently switched my desktop and laptops computers to Windows 7 from Vista. Both machines now have this issue. One machine has Windows 7 64-bit and the other 32-bit. I've ensured both machines have the correct driver installed.
Any solutions?

For the quick solution(it sounds like you may be in a hurry)...
Use the "Windows Fax and Scan" Program. This will find the scanner, and you can run the Scan job and save it to My Documents->Scanned Documents...

Uninstall the old software, uninstall the printer.
Then first start by installing the software and do what the software tells you to do. I have found these OfficeJet devices to be picky on the order things are done.

Hidden Layers printing unwanted blank pages.

When I use layers to hide portions of a document that I do not want to print all is well on pages that only include hidden layers and these pages do not print UNTIL I add page numbers to the document, and then all pages print - including the ones that only include hidden layers, and these pages are blank except for the page number. I do need the page numbers included - so is there any way to not print pages that only have a page number on them?

Have you considered using Conditional Text for the answers?
I am not familiar with conditional text – I will need to investigate.
It's not clear to me, either what the numbering scheme here might be. In the teacher's edition, do the pages with the answers get numbered in sequence, or do they have a special numbering system applied?
Good question – In the teacher’s Answer Key I could go either way. My first choice would for the pages to be numbered sequentially with the first printable non-blank page to be #1. If the pages printed with the same page numbers that they have in the book that would not be the end of the world, there would be gaps in the page numbers for the non-printed chapter content – either way I don’t want the blank hidden content pages to be included in the document.
If they are numbered in sequence, how do you synchronize numbering between the two editions if you don't include blank pages?
Sequencing and synchronizing page numbers is not a significant problem – the instructor is just glad to have the answers and they do not care a lot about how the pages are numbered. However, having said that it would be really nice if a future version of InDesign Books could create both sequential page numbers and a Table of Contents for only the printed pages in an output document that would have layers that are not hidden.
How is this bound? And how is it printed? Changing the page counts can be problematic unless the answer pages can be tipped in at binding.
We deliver all of our documents electronically on CDs as PDF files so binding and printing are not problems for us.

Prints unwanted multiples copies

Printer: Officejet 6500 (wireless network connection)
OS: Windows 7
Sometimes when I send a job to the printer it prints multiple copies.
It is totally random and I haven't been able to determine a pattern. It happens from different programs, but not always.
As an example last week I came to the HP site and saw the notice about the forum today. I decided to print it to have as a reminder and I stoped the printer after 3 copies.
Usually it prints 2, but sometimes 3 - and of course, sometimes just 1.
I have check to make sure that when sending the order to print it only says one.
Any ideas?

Mirror image printing - unwanted

I have just got my Airport Express up and running with my iMac. So, internet connection working and USB printer working EXCEPT it only prints out mirror images. Printer is a Brother MFC 210C. I have downloaded latest driver and firmware for both Airport and printer.

I have the same problem, although I doubt it's an Airport Express issue. I connect my MacBook via a wireless router to share the MFC-210C that's USBed to a G4 which is cabled to the router. The G4 also has the problem. And it's intermittant, as well as unpredictable.
Given the price of ink I am not happy with the workaround of letting a bad print alert me to mirror my originalbefore getting a good copy at last.

Output a shaded box in SAPScript with Dot Matrix Printer

Is there a way to print a shaded box in Sapscript using Dot matrix printer?

I tried the code as above but it wouldn't work, and doing a search on this forum tells me box command wouldn't work on dot matrix printer. So is there any alternative to do this?

Appleworks won't print after upgrading to 10.4

I had bought Appleworks and it was working fine and then a few months later upgraded to OS 10.4.2 Now appleworks (the installed version) won't print (I deleted the other). They are the exact same version. My printer works fine in other applications. I made sure the printer was selected in appleworks printer set up also. I also reset permissions to make sure something wasn't messed up.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Batch convert appleworks to pdf in same folder

I need a script that will work in 10.5.8 on a powerPC machine (iBook G4) that will allow me to scan the entire drive for Appleworks documents, open them in AppleWorks, print to PDF, apply the same name and save in the same folder.
A bonus would be to also delete the original AppleWorks file while it's at it.
Anyone written something like this? I see some solutions that batch convert to PDF into a default folder - all I need is to save in the original file folder and delete the original doc. Of course I will be making a clone of the afected system beforehand.

Two snags with that script:
- it does not put the PDF in the folder the original file came from
- it aborts if there is a message about contents not fitting on PDF print area
ANy suggestions on either?
