Applicaiton versions

Hi, I need some experts advice...
I am looking to launch a beta version of my application, with updates to follow in future... my problem is that in future if I make changes to a copy of beta version then I would have to email a newer link to my users... Is there a way to change applicaiton number or keep the consistant web URL...?

The answer depends on how your environments are set up. We have are Development (DEV) and User Acceptance Test (UAT) environments on one UNIX box and Production (PRD) on another. We export to from DEV and then import into UAT. Since DEV and UAT are sharing APEX, DEV and UAT have a different Application IDs or numbers. PRD since it is on another box can reuse either ID from DEV or UAT. We have chosen to use the DEV Application ID.
So when import, you can chose to replace an Application or reuse an Application ID but if on the same box, you will need to change you Application ID.

Questions on Oracle EBS backup strategy

Hi all,
Currently I am planning the backup strategy for the EBS. May I know apart from backup the database using RMAN, is there anything (e.g. log files) that I need to backup such that I can fully restore the system?

I see that this is your first post, and you have not searched on this forum or on google about n-number of responses to your question that various people have already asked.
You didn't mentioned the applicaiton version you are using.
Anyways, you need to take the complete backup of the application tier directories i.e., appl_top, common_top, inst_top, etc.

All spreadsheets open blank (white on white)

All data is still there, but all formatting is white on white. Happens to every spreadsheet I open. QuickLook on document in Finder shows data/formatting is there, but open in Numbers and it's all blank. Also blank when I select a new document from the Template Chooser. ***?

We don't have much to go on here. It helps if you tell us which version and sub-version of Numbers you are using and which version and sub-version of the OS you are using.
There have been problems like this in the past that arose out of having the applicaiton version and the OS X version out ot sync. In other words, they both need to be updated. Sometimes the app needs a tweak to work with a new OS release. Is everything updated there?

Losing developing session info after start run applicaiton in Version 4

Hello,
Could anyone know how to avoid this? Normally, you login in workspace, and go to application builder then run application, at the bottom this are links can let you quick go back to application builder.
But after I upgrade APEX to version 4.1 then the bottom links will gone after click a few pages in running application. And even try to go back to application builder by using Browser back function it will prompt to login again.
It's so annoying and wasting time to log back in.
Could anyone help?

Finally, I have to get around with it by using two browser one do develope, one running applicaiton.
Then I found out it does not work in Chrome and IE but does work in firefox.
I thinks this is a bug related to APEX javascript, which the bottom developer bar does not show in IE and Chrome.
I can develop APEX application in firefox, although most of time I'm using chrome.

Best way to do diff across versions of a text column for a Wiki applicaiton

I've got a WikiText application that I use to make it easy for users to change text in a region via a WSIWYG editor.

It currently keeps saves prior versions of the text and details on who changed it and why.
What I would like to add is some sort of a version compare to show what text got added, deleted and/or replaced.
Any suggestions on best ways to do this in SQL? Anyone already wrote a function towards this purpose?

I think there are just too many variables at work to be able to automate postioning or the pull quote frame unless you are able to always use the same frame height, or some multiple of the leading value as the frame height. In that case you could experiment with anchoring a frame relative to the line (you'd probably have to anchor it in the previous line to get the wrap to work the way you want), then position the first one manually and not the distance below the line. Add that to the object style.
This would only work with text set on that particular leading. Change the leading and the positions would need to change, and if the anchored frame dimensions change, they would also need to change by the same amount as the leading or the spacing at the bottom would get out of balance.

Is there a version of Microsoft Office that will work on Mavericks?

I have seen several questions on this topic, but don't have a clear answer on if I need to buy something or can get an update for my version of MS Office.
I believe I have MS Office 2004 based on the log files I can see in the directory. MS Office will not run so I can't be certain.
I have a Macbook Pro running 10.9 with the 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 processor.
When I start it now the error I get is "You can't open the applicaiton Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
So, what does this mean, excatly?
Can I update my MS Office to a version that is supported?
If I have to, instead, BUY a new version of MS Office, will it work on my laptop?
Thanks for any tips. I have looked at several of the other threads but they seem to confuse the issue since everyone is in a different situation with hardware versions and such.

Do you by chance know if I have to buy a new version of MSOffice or if this there is an upgrade path from 2004 to either '08 or '11? I have had the MS Update app on my laptop for a while but I guess since I always had an older version of the OS, I never needed an update to '08.
I tried launching the '11 MS Update app but it would not load since I have an older version of MS Office installed.

Can a newer version read/import from an older version?

I'm using the hard drive from my dead Powerbook G4 as an external drive in an enclosure. It had iPhoto v. 5.something. I want to view/import the photos on that old drive onto a Macbook Pro OSX 10.5.8/iPhoto 7.1. I get told the older (Powerbook) version can't be read and that I need to use the newer version (the one on the Macbook). On the Macbook Pro, I open the external hard disk icon > Applicaitons > iPhoto, and I cant' get past the dialog box telling me to use the newer version of the application. There is only an OK button, which shuts down iPhoto 5.something. So I can't open it even to get the photos onto a flash drive.
Isn't there a way to see the photo library from a previous version of IPhoto? It would be terrible if all those photos were gone. Nobody warned me about this.
While I'm on the subject of iPhoto, is there any way to kill the dialog box that appears EVERY TIME I launch, asking if I want to use iPhoto when I attach my camera to the computer?

I'm not sure I follow your post
1. There is in importing involved. You never import an iPhoto library into another iPhoto library
2. Newer versions of iPhoto Will open and convert older libraries. Once the library has been converted the older version will no longer be able to access the converted library

My MacBook Air has OSX Version 10.9 and suddenly I can no longer access iPhoto including all my photos on my computer. I have tried to update iphote but the message says I signed on with a different password and I can't update.

You have iphoto 9.3.2." When I try to update iPhoto, I get a message saying I signed in with a different apple ID and password. This all happened about the same time I got a new iphone. The iPhoto icon has a circle with a line through it.

Sync w/entourage x, iCal version 2.0.5 & most current version of iCal

Can I use the .Mac sync software to sync my Entorage X information with both the iCal on my PowerBook (version 2.0.5) and my new MacBook (most current version of iCal)? The end result, I'm hoping my iPhone can sync with my MacBook which will include the most up-to-date information from both my work computer (calendar & contacts) and my home computer. I'm not sure if I should keep my new MacBook if this can't be done...so any help is greatly appreciated.

If you disable your Bonjour Service are you able to launch iTunes?
In your Start menu, right-click My Computer and select "Manage".
Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Perhaps maximise the screen to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the Bonjour Service and select "Properties".
In the General tab, set the Startup type to "Disabled":
... and click OK.
Restart the PC and try another iTunes launch. Any better luck then?

It did come pre-installed, have you looked in the Applicaitons folder and have you checked Trash to see if you (or some other user on your computer) threw it in there? If it's still not there, then restart in the Recovery Partition on your iMac (hold down the Option key when you hear the startup tone) and choose re-install OS X.

Deploying newer version of application on to device.

I wnated to know that is it possible to deploy the newer version of your mobile application to mobile device via webconsole without deleting the older one.As for some minor changes made to application we have to delete the old version to deploy the newer version.Is it possible via some mechanism like Addon...

Hi Devendra
You cannot deploy a newer version of an application when the older one still exists on the client. But you have mentioned that only few minor changes have been done to the application. For example let me assume that you have changed some code which was included in the jar file of the applicaiton. This jar file always resides in the WEB-INF/lib folder to the applicaiton. You just want to replace this jar file in the older application instead of deleting the application completely. So the solution is to do this is to create a client installer archive which is nothing but an addon. Once you have referred to the documentation you would know how to create a install.xml file and what are the tags contained in them. Please make sure the MANIFEST.MF file contains an entry called PatchArchive:X. A sample xml for this problem would look like this.

Please help.Hi. Any weblogic server can be used with any JDBC driver. Just upgrade the
JDBC driver to the latest/best one for Oracle9i, and make sure it's the first
thing in the server's weblogic.classpath (not the java.classpath). I recommend the
thin driver. Because it's all java, it is much more reliable. There is no known
issue with standard JDBC with that or any other driver. Some non-standard Oracle
calls which arer available from Oracle's driver classes are available through
weblogic, and some are not.

Version & Upgrade Development Issues

Hello,
We are currently developing forms and reports using
Developer/2000 ver 1.3. It's more than a little out-dated so we
are discussing the procedures for an upgrade. We are currently
facing the version/upgrade dilemma.
The company uses Oracle Applications ver 10.7 smartclient on a
Oracle 7.3 server.
Should we upgrade to Developer/2000 1.6 or 2.0?
Or should we upgrade directly to Oracle Developer 6.0?
Also does anyone know if an application(forms, reports) designed
in Developer/2000 1.6, 2.0 or Oracle Developer 6.0 will work
properly in Oracle Applications ver 10.7 smartclient?
Has anyone tried this yet?
How successfull was your applicaiton working?
