Application Catalog clarification

I have deployed an application to a collection and things work great. I have it set to "Install" and "Required" for the Deployment Action and Purpose. I was hoping this would show up on the Application Catalog website as well but I
do not see it listed. Isn't there a way for this existing deployment I created to also show up in the Application Catalog website for future use amongst my staff wishing to deploy this app to users? From what I am reading, you have to create a deployment as
"Available" and to All Users in order for it to show up? I don't want to go this route because I am deploying this in stages (user group 1 first, user group 2 second, etc).

Correct, that's the definition of an *available* deployment: user initiated only. And, as mentioned, deployments to users only show up in the app catalog.
Here's a good blog covering the details:

  • SCCM Application Catalog Query / Report - List of Applications a User Can Install

    Hello,
In SCCM, if a user launches the application catalog, they are presented with a list of application that they have access to install. We don't use the approval request feature.   I was wondering if anyone knows of a report or SQL query that would
return the same results as if I launching the application catalog as that user.   I just want the name of the application.
E.g.  List all applications ADDOMAIN\JOHNDOE has access to install.

    Visio 2010
    Access 2010 etc.
    Thanks.

Find the collections were the user is member of (v_R_User -> v_FullCollectionMembership) and see which available deployments are available (v_DeploymentSummary).

  • Application "Icons" no longer showing up in Application Catalog

We have around 500 "Applications" in our application catalog, and make heavy use of the Application Catalog for user self installations. Additionally, we had painstakingly gone through and added "icons" to every application to show up
in Software Center/Application Catalog to make things look "pretty" This had all been working as expected for over a year up until yesterday.
We were rolling out a new App Catalog Website/Web Service (2 servers) to replace our current. I removed the roles from the old one, added to the new. Everything works, software installs work, but no icons show up in the App Catalog. They DO however show
up fine in Software Center. I then reverted the change, putting the role(s) back on the previously working server. No dice, still no icons.
Been playing with it for almost a week, here is what I can discern:
No Icons show up at all, whether custom icons, shell32.dll default icons, or other.
All types do show up in software center after an install is initiated.
The permissions on the "AppIcons" folder are correct (RO to domain users), but the folder itself is empty
No Errors reported on any Roles, or Services (all green)
Modifying an app (removing and re-adding icon) has no effect, still doesn't show up in App Catalog.
Making a NEW app (with new icon) has no effect, still doesn't show up in App Catalog.
Is anyone familiar with the "How do icons get onto the app catalog" process? I assumed they all dumped to the AppIcons folder, but maybe not? Does anyone know what process/log controls this?
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions, as i want to make sure its not something stupid before blowing $$$ on a MS call.

Wanted to follow up and post a solution to this.
Working with MS support, we were able to identify it as a permissions issue.
Our implementation spans multiple domains, multiple forests, so we have to add in the additional Domains Users with permissions to the "ApplicationCatalog" and "Usericons" folders. I chose to do this via GPO as we have several app
catalog servers, and this seemed "more consistent" to me.
I mistakenly assumed that the privs were identical on both folders when I configured it in GPO. Though very similar, they aren't identical and there are a few extra privs for the SCCM account(s) on the UserIcons folder, which allows it to "write"
to that folder. Simple Fix. Whoops!
Working with MS, I learned a bit more about how the App Catalog works, that I haven't seen written anywhere, so I'll include some of that here. All icons are stored in the SCCM database, and are accessible via the primary site server and WMI. However,
they are "cached" on each application catalog in the appicons folder. This process doesn't happen on a schedule, but rather happens when a user opens the application catalog (on demand). Any icons not retrieved and cached, are cached at that time.
In my case, I had made the GPO change 6 months prior, but no "new" icons had been added, we had been reusing them from app to app (Firefox icon stays the same, and so on). Therefore, it appeared to still be working fine and all icons showed up. In
my case, When I rebuilt the server(s) they needed to "re cache" the icons. When I reverted the app catalog to the old server to revert the change, it also had to "re-cache" the icons as they were deleted when the role was removed, which
    was denied.
Hopefully this will help someone in the future if they ever have a similar issue.

  • Installation of Cumulative Update 2 for SCCM 2012 R2 causes Application Catalog error Cannot connect to the application server"

I have update my primary server with cu2.  Rebooted it when requested.  Now everything appears to work except Application Catalog.  I am getting HttpSendRequestSync failed errors in sms_awebsvc_control_manager and SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER.  Permissions
for the temp folder and the 2 service folders do have local service and system with full control.  I reregistered .net 4 with aspnet_regiis -i -enable.  Rebooted and no change.  application pool is running.  The install logs said it is
working.  SQL is happy.  I have reinstalled the two Application Catalog service points varous ways and they always come back with warm fuzzy logs stated they installed.
When someone tries to use Application Catalog the ServicePortalWebSite.log always produces the following errors:

  • Error when attemtping to open the application catalog with Firefox

We are actively migrating to our CM2012 R2 CU1 environment. However, we have a number of different browsers and versions in use.
We've recently seen an issue in Firefox 37.0.1 when some people (but not all) attempt to open the application catalog.  Firefox will display the "This connection is untrusted" message.  The users will select the option of I understand
the risks.  They are presented with the button to "Add Exception".  However, when they select that, nothing happens.
These individuals are administrators on their workstation.  We've tried having them do the "Restart with add-ons disabled" as well as deleting the cert8.db and cert_override.txt files.  They still get the same result.
    Then I saw this:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx  Firefox 15??  This document was updated in March.
The majority of our users do not use IE as they prefer Chrome and/or Firefox.
Has anyone experienced this with Firefox?

Couple of notes that may be of value you to:
    1.  Even if you are using an alternative browser, the security zones that you see in IE are applied at the OS level, and thus making sure said app catalog site is either in the trusted sites or intranet sites zone is required for everything from auto-sign-in
    to app deployment.
    2.  Chrome stopped supporting Silverlight back at the end of November.  As that's required for the AppCatalog, that's not an option for now.  Not your direct question, but something to be aware of.

  • Custom Report for Application Catalog History

    Hi All,
I am going to create custom report that display request and approval history from application catalog. Required parameters are Application name, requested by, approved by, request time, approval time. AFAIK there is no out of the box default report from
SCCM 2012 SP1 that display those parameters. Which tables view and columns I could use for this purpose?
    Thanks for your help.

The information which user installed what from the application catalog is not stored anywhere if I am not mistaken.

  • SCCM 2012 Application Catalog shows ALL advertised to a user independant of the OS they are using

Within SCCM 2007 if a package was to be made available only to the following platforms, it would only show up on those platforms... If a user was using Win XP and had a package meant ONLY for Win7 advertised to them, they would not see it.... It seems as
though in CM12, if a user has advertisements meant for XP, Win7, 64 bit, etc... everything appears in teh application catalog. I also understand that the software center is meant for application publishing and not for regular packages as they were in 2007...
Is there a way to make the packages meant for XP to only appear in the users catalog and NOT show the Win 7 packages?
As we are in the middle of a Win 7 migration, we need to manage this without a lot of work within AD...

    Hi,
In Configuration Manager 2012 packages and applications that are made available to users are always displayed in the Application Catalog, the platform requirement is not evaluated until the user actually tries to install the application then the requirements
are evaluated and the installation will not continue if there the requirements doesn't match the plattform.
Software Center will display all packages/programs and applications that are deployed as "available" to devices and not users. User targeted will always show up in the Application Catalog..

  • Renaming SCCM package application catalog using powershell

I am trying to change the application properties in SCCM Configmgr2012  of over 2000 applications, i need to have the Application Catalog name changed to match the package Name, for doing this i need to design a power shell script, since i am new to
power shell i am not sure what parameters i should use and appropriate functions to be used. if anybody has created something similar please share information on this. Hope i am clear with my question.
    Thanks.
    Example
    Path: Software library-Overview-Application Management-Applications-Adobe
    Application-Right click-properties-General Information tab-Name
    Adobe_Acrobat X Pro_10.0.0_01
    Application-Right click-properties-Application catalog-Localized application name Adobe_Acrobat X Pro -English

That the applications are not in the same folder is not a problem, as you can iterate through all applications without knowing the folder location. The problem is that if you want to script this there needs to be a starting point. Something that's the
same for all application names, so you can script something to get a specific part of the name.

  • SCCM 2012 Application Catalog Website Point role Status is critical

    Hi team,
In a client's SCCM 2012 R2 environment there is a Critical Icon and Status against one of two Application Catalog Website point roles. Looking at the Component status, there are no errors and all the components show as green.
Trying to find any warnings or errors in the messages for the Site System role doesnt show any errors, and I tried to reset counts but this has not changed the status.
I am not sure where to go from here. The application catalog itself works and is up. All the services are running. I am unsure as to where this error status comes from or what it pertains to.
     Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Please check portlctl.log and awebsctl.log to see if there is any error.
You could also check the thread below.
Symptom: Reporting Services Point Status (under Monitoring - System Status - Site Status) appears as Critical, No error messages in logs or status messages
Cause: 'Status' can be set to "2" for 'SMS SRS Reporting Point' in dbo.summarizer_sitesystem table in sql
    Resolution: > Run below query:
update dbo.summarizer_sitesystem set status = '0' where SiteSystem = '["Display=\\abc.local\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=ABC"]\\abc.local\' and role = 'SMS SRS Reporting Point'
    > It should set the status back to 0.
    > Check in console and errors should go away.
    > In case if value reverts back then check below namespace in wmi of site server:
    root\sms\site_pri\sms_sitesystemsummarizer
    > check the value for reporting services point, ideally it should be 0, let's say it's set to 2 there as well then remove role of reporting services point.
    > if entry for reporting services point goes away from both the places then it's good, you can re-install the reporting services point and it should work fine.
    > Let's say if value/values doesn't get removed from sql/wmi , remove them manually via queries and then go with uninstall and re-install.
    > then it should work and errors in console and common.log should go away.

  • SCCM application catalog cannot connect to application server

    Hi all,
We have SCCM 2012 SP1 deployed. When we try to connect to the Application Catalog we are unable to and get an error that says unable to connect to the application server. The related roles were uninstalled and re-installed, so the configuration is correct.
We have a C drive and an I drive. The I drive is where all content is stored for when we deploy packages.
I am wondering if having the two separate drives is causing the issue or if it could be something else. Any thoughts? Any one else do the same as us?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
Having two drives will not cause you any issue. You will need to dig into the log files to see what is going on.

  • Application Catalog Website Point Status Critical - But why?

I am having some tracking down what is causing this status on a customer's primary site. I've checked the portlctl.log and awebsctl.log where both show a status 0 of running. When I try to reset the status of the Application Catalog website point the status
does not reset and there are no error messages when I query the status messages. Is there something else I can do to try and get the status into the right state?
    www.bighatgroup.com

I've seen this behavior more often, with different customers. It's always the Application Catalog web site point that shows an error state while it's functioning correct. From what I've seen, the behavior starts after a reinstallation of the role, either
because of a hotfix, service pack, or cu installation.
Also the only workaround I've found so far that works, is reinstalling the role again...

  • Application Catalog asks for credentials and refuses. Something wrong with IIS?

I have Win2012/SQL2012/CM2012 R2 CU1 enviroment which was working fine before I started integrating MBAM 2.5. I first made a misstake By accepting port 80 for MBAM web sites, which crushed my MP. I then uninstalled MBAM so that only Default IIS site was
    available for port 80.
But after this, application catalog components still did not recover from this, and also I see some errors in reporting service.
I compared IIS site settings of authorization to another functional CM site system. Then I desided to wipe IIS and rebuild entirely some of CM roles. I uninstalled, MP, SUP and App Catalog roles. I unstalled IIS and deleted its config folders.
Now I have new IIS and all roles installed, but App Catalog still not letting me it.
I´ve being trouble shoting this for 3 days. Please help, ask for details.

  • SCCM 2012 application catalog items not showing up

I have an SCCM 2012 package which is being deployed to a device collection
The users are not seeing this package appear in the application catalog, nor is it appearing in the software centre
Can we no longer deploy (advertise) to device collections for the users to install when needed?

If it is not appearing in Software Center, then either the deployment policy has not been retrieved by the client, it is not in the target collection, or has been filtered out due to platform restrictions (or some other restriction like that). Or the client
is not able to communicate with the MP, which would be a cause of the first option (the policy has not been retrieved by the client). You'd need to check to ensure that all is working on that end.

  • Application catalog error - cannot install or request software.

    Hi All,
I have installed SCCM 2012 SP1 and configured SCCM APP catalog, i am able to browse the portal from a client machine, the portal shows the application which are deployed but when i send a request for the application and after administrators approval
the the app catalog is not able to download the application and the portal shows
"cannot install or request software error message"same is happening with the application without request policy.
    What i have tried :-
    1. Adding the App catalog URL to the LOCAL Intranet zone.
    2.Reinstallation of  Application catalog.
But it shows the same error please help.

    thanks for replying,
Seems like it was an MP issue, my MP was not working.
I did the following things :-
    1. Remove App Catalog roles.
    2. Uninstalled Management Point.
    3. Uninstalled IIS.
    4. System Restart.
    5. Installed IIS.
    6. Installed MP.
    7. Installed App catalog roles.
    Now, it's working.
    Thanks,
    Pranay.

  • Application Catalog - Cannot connect to the Application Server (SQL related?)

    Hi,
There are many posts on this topic, and I've gone through all the various checks and workarounds but I still have the same problem. Essentially my Application Catalog seems to be working to a point, but when it attempts to connect to the SQL DB to check
what apps are assigned for the user it seems to then fall over.
This is the extract from the ServicePortalWebService.log file. There are a few exceptions around failing to exectute the DB procedure and again when connecting to SQL server.
I've checked the IIS Site and the connection string for for CMApplicationCatalogSvc seems to be correct.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
