Application Console refuses to open

I just downloaded Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro, (previously from TIger 10.4) and I seem to have a few problems. When I download practically anything, it becomes corrupted. I never had this problem before the upgrade. I switched to 32 bit encryption instead, it seemed to help. Recently, I downloaded Photoshop off of the producers website. As far as i know, it is not corrupted, but when i open it, (I have DiskImageMounter set as default), i receive a warning message that reads:

after reading online, i decided to refer to the application "Console" to look for errors. It refuses to open. (even after restarting). VLC refuses to open, and on rare occasions i can open QuickTime. Do you think this is a compatibility issue?
if it helps, I made sure SL would be compatible (Intel Core 2 Duo Processor). So im not sure whats up. any help would be great.

If you upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard, there's no way you could have done that by downloading Snow Leopard. Now, if you meant that you upgraded by installing Snow Leopard on top of Tiger, that's a different issue. Somewhere along the line something got corrupted. Your best bet is to reinstall Snow Leopard; afterwards, launch Software Update and install everything available, repair permissions, and restart. Now, delete the Photoshop item you downloaded and download another.

My phone freezes, refuses to open some applications some times, switches off and restarts by itself... any idea what the problem is?

I am using iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1.2). It often switches off and restarts by itself, sometimes it refuses to open certain applications until I switch off and restart it. Sometimes it does not make a call through unless I switch off and restart.
Any idea what the problem could be and any advice to what I should do ?

If you are having issues with restarting and apps not launching you may want to try this to troubleshoot.

ICal refusing to open (com.apple.ical.plist file missing)

I have tried opening iCal and it refuses to open. The icon bounces on the dock, then asks if I want to report the issue to Apple. I have reported multiple times but I don't know how reporting it will help my iCal work again. (See below the dashed line for the error report.)
Since then, I have tried to replace iCal, but the software claims it cannot be installed on this machine.
I have tried to update my current iCal, but no updates are available.
I have browsed the forums and saw that some solutions were if HelveticaNeue was missing from my fonts. Got it.
And then I saw some threads about refreshing the com.apple.ical.plist... That's a problem. I don't have that file in my library at all. I can't seem to find any way to get it either. What can I do?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would suggest using optional install to reload iCal from your installation disks, then download the combo update for your machine and run. Then see will iCal start. If it doesn't, use console.app to see what error messages it reports.
com.apple.ical.plist... That's a problem. I don't have that file in my library at all. I can't seem to find any way to get it either.
It is created by iCal when it runs.

My iTunes v.10.6.3.25 is intermittently refusing to open. Sometimes re-booting my laptop works, sometimes not. I just put the computer to sleep, and when I woke it up, iTunes started automatically. Any thoughts?

I just put the computer to sleep, and when I woke it up, iTunes started automatically (I had been trying to open it just before by clicking on a song file in my Documents window, and that's the song that started playing when the pc woke up). I went to my iTunes Help and clicked Updates/download iTunes 10.7 twice, but got nothing. Now, Im wondering if I should downloacd the entire 10.7, or whether that would overwrite all my files, erasing my songs. Anybody know? Thanks.

Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!

Weblogic Server Administration Console does not open

hi,
I am using EM Grid Control and Weblogic Server is added in the Middleware Targets...when I click on "Weblogic Server Administration Console" to open the Admin Server console it directs me to old IP address in the browser and console does not open...it goes on old IP address...
it gets open when I put the Ip address myself in the browser like:
https://10.254.166.141:7102/conole
it gets open there...means that server is okay and working properly...
I have seen the logs and it is giving the following message:

Hi,
Can you check the EM configuration whenther it has updated the changes made by you i.e. the ip address.
Can you try rebooting the EM application,as this seems to be that the EM has not the changes reflected to it's configuration.

Admin console does not open

I am new to JEE and i am having problem in starting it.I have installed JEE 5 update 3 on win XP and i am using Firefox mozilla as my browser.
The installation of JEE goes fine and i get the congratulation message that installation is successfull.
Then when i start the default server the message on the command promt is like this::

As per the Quick Start for Basic Features given in the JEE C:\Sun\SDK\docs http:// localhost:4848 should open Sun Java System Application Server Admin Console where i am supposed to enter admin user name and password to proceed further but this doesnot happen.
I checked the log it shows the message with following error Unexpected error forwarding or redirecting to login page.

Pages refuses to open files and export

I have become incredibly agitated as Pages will save a document then refuse to open it without any reason-does notr say it is corrupted, simply comes up with message '(doc name) cannot be opened. Also, when working on pages it has started to refuse to export docs into word and pdfs. Occassionally it will export one type and then refuse to do other, also without reason.
I activated IWork after the trial period ran out so I am confused as to how to reinstall it without it being on a disk, if I need to do so.
Any ideas?

When an application that was working correctly stops doing so the cause is likely corrupt preferences. There are a couple of ways to check this out. Log in as another user on your Mac & see if the behavior continues.
If you have a particular document you want to try to open in the other user, move it to the HD > Users > Shared folder. Unless permissions are set for other users to read & write you may get a message that a copy will be opened.
Quit Pages & then delete the com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist from HD > Users > [your account] > Library > Preferences. Then restart Pages & see what happens. You will have to reset some Pages preferences.
If it were just one document, a trick I learned in the AppleWorks forum & has worked for some Pages users, is to save the document in iWork '05 format (use a different name) & then open it in Pages 2.
You can reinstall iWork from the restore DVD that came with your Mac. Just make sure you have your serial number written down to reenter it. Apple has written an article, Knowledge Base article 61802 on restoring the software than came with your Mac. Reinstalling, though, will not remove the preference files, so they will need to be moved manually as above. There is also one for Keynote in each user's Library as well as the com.apple.iWork06.plist in HD > Library > Preferences which contains the serial number. It is unlikely that this preference file is corrupt.

I realised that there were some folders which didn't have the camera information embedded in the files and these files refuse to open on iPhoto. I know that the folders that have the problem were not transferred to the hard drive via a photo transfer application (I have a Canon camera) but I simply copied them out of the photo card and onto my old PC.
Is there some way I can open these pictures on my Mac? They work fine on a PC.

The files don't open in preview either. In preview I get the error message 'The file "xxxx_xxx.jpg" could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize'. The folders with these un-openable pictures do not even get imported into iPhoto. When I try to import them I get an error message about the files being unreadable.
The color profile information on the un-openable files is not visible but I see that all the other files from my old drive are RGB.

You should be able to put Launchpad back in the Dock by dragging it from the Applications folder to the left section of the Dock. As to why it won't launch, run the Console utility, try to run Launchpad, and see if any messages appear in the Console window.

Applications won't re-open

I've noticed recently that once I've used, and then closed, applications including MS Word, Macromedia Dreamweaver and PhotoShop they won't re-open unless I re-start. This is both from the alias and the original. What can I do to sort this or is it another recognised teething problem with this OS? I don't think I've added any new software to make this happen and although it's been a persistant problem from Day 1 with this computer it wasn't always as rigid as I was previously able to open applications after a number of consecutive persistant attempts. Now, no go without a re-start.

I've read the relevant section but my problem isn't described in the list of symptoms that this process is supposed to cure. To be more specific... having quit any application once (to free up working memory for other hungry applications) that application, when triggered for re-opening, is recognised by the system because the toolbar icon for the correct application bounces a couple of times, but then it stops and refuses to open. This occurs even if every other closeable application has been quit. My only solution is still to restart the computer. Major inconvenience.

Safari refuses to open, a window pops up saying it quit unexpectedly.

Safari is refusing to open. Every time that I attempt to open it, it instead pops up with a window that says that it quit unexpectedly.
The internet is not an issue as Google Chrome and mail are working fine.
Safari is version 5.1.6

I really would like some help as it is occuring on both my family's new iMac and new macbook air.

Updating to Safari 6 for Lion may help. This can be done on both Macs.
You can use Chrome to download the file...
Click here > Safari Quits Every Time Opened: Apple Support Communities
Then click the link posted by: gregoryfromcork
That will automatically download this file > Safari6Lion.pkg.download
Now quit Safari.
Go to your Downloads folder and double click that file and follow the instructions for installing.
Then restart your Mac, try Safari.

Disk Utility is refusing to open

Hi,
I recently decided to upgrade to Mountain Lion but I was planning on doing a clean install. The thing is that my disk utility refuses to open. I checked and its saved under application-utilities but the logo is the one of the paper, ruler, pencil and pen one (the one that usually appears when the program hasnt been recognized) and when i try to open it my dock moves a bit and but nothing else happens, their is no jumping logo, nothing. What do you think might have happened? How can I fix it? Could it be something dangerous? Also do you recommend doing the clean install? i am using a Macbook pro 13 inches from mid 2010 with Snow leopard 10.6.8 on it.

Try this;
In FInder go to the Go Menu
HOLD down the Option key to show the hidden Library Folder and mouse click on it at the SAME time.
The finder window will open the hidden folder.
Now navigate to the preferences folder and click to open.
Look for the following files
com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist
com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist.lockfile
Move both to the trash.
Reboot Mac and try to launch Activity Monitor again. those files will be recreated and the icon should have returned to normal.
