I bumped into at least a partial answer trying to figure this out. It seems like the System/Library/Frameworks directories may have been corrupted. I recently installed the 2009-001 Security update (too soon to tell if that was the culprit). What I did to fix the printing problem was to Archive a copy of the System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework directory from my wife's MAC. I made an acrhive of the same directory from my Powerbook. I then deleted that directory. I copied the archive of my wife's MAC to my Deskptop and unzipped it. Then I MOVED - not Copied (Copy will not work) that entire directory from the Deskptop to the System/Library/Frameworks directory. This not only solved my problem with the Printing Crashing - it also solved the problem of my MAC not responding to either the Shutdown or Restart Options. Something definitely corrupted this directory structure. Note: You will need to supply the Authentication Password when you Move the Directory. Hope this helps.

  • All applications crash when printing

The problem mysteriously began to appear about a week after installing 10.4.11 with a couple of printers. Cannot resolve after performing "Reset Printing System", repairing permissions, running 10.4.11 Combo Update. Now crashes every time I print to any printer.
The problem occurs when Print is selected from File menu - the Mac quits the application. This occurs in all applications with all printers.
    Any ideas?

    Hello doctor:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I think I would reinstall OS X 10.4.11 using the combo updater. Something apparently went amiss the first time around.

  • Applications crash when printing

I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.8 installed and all applications I've tried, so far, crash when trying to print to an HP LaserJet.
I've read and applied the troubleshooting tips from this knowledgebase article, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3147, and there is improvments. I have, also, created a new user account to see if I could reproduce the problem and find out that I can print anything without problems. Going back to the previous user account and the printing crashes are still there.
So, I believe the problem is with this user account and not with the whole printing system. I just don't know where to look in the Library directory that can tell me what's causing this problem.
    Anyone had similar problem?
P.S. It was printing OK a few minutes ago before apps started to crash.

  • Every application crashes when i try to print from it!

Hello everyone, i have an HP 1012 laserjet and it was working perfectly fine until i installed all the updates for the ILife and everything else that came out earlier this week. Anyone know what is going on??

I had the same problem as well. All applications crashed when I tried to print.
I found the solution at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=199701&highlight=printing+crash.
What I ended up doing was to delete the system's printer drivers (located in Macintosh HD > Library > Printers), then re-installing them from install disk one (optional install). This was suggested by "mad jew" on macrumors, and worked for "EricNau" (using 10.4.6 on iMac G5 17") as well as myself (using 10.4.6 on MBP 17"). Hope it works for you as well.

  • Applications crash when attempting to use network printer

I just upgraded to Tiger. Now, all applications crash when I attempt to select my network printer (HP laserjet 4600) from the 'File' ->'Print' menu. If the network printer is selected as my default printer, the program closes before the print menu even comes up. However, I can print to this printer if it is my default printer and I use the print icon instead of 'File'->'Print'. I also have a USB printer (Lexmark) which I can print to no problem. I can print to all printers with no problems from Classic applications, and I had no problems printing from either Classic or OS X before upgrading to Tiger. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you run Disk Utility> Repair Permissions after installing the HP driver software? While Repair Permissions may no longer be a useful as it was as a generic troubleshooting step under OS X 10.2.x, it's still essential if you have any third-party software that requires an administrative password to install, especially HP or Adobe software, which are known to trample around placing files with mis-set permissions all over the place.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • HAVING PROBLEMS WITH OS 10.6.8 PRINTING WITH XEROX PHASER.  MacPro crashes when printer warms up. Does anyone have a solution? 6360 DN

I've been using Macs since 1984.  Have been using Xerox Phaser printers for ten years.  But with the last update to OS 10.6.8 last summer, I've had problems with crashing when printing.  My MacPro crashes when printing via ethernet prot with Xerox Phaser 6360DN or when the printer warms up.  Worked fine with OS 10.6.7.  Internet postings suggest this is a common problem for all Mac users with Xerox Phaser printers.  Apple put out an update to 10.6.8 to address the problem.  I downloaded it but it did not solve the problem.  Have tried all the Xerox drivers along with Apple drivers.  Can't solve the problem.  Xerox says it's an Apple problem.  Does anyone KNOW how to solve the problem?

sorry, just saw that i was accidently in the snow leopard section....i reposted under the correct section. here's the link.

  • Indesign CC 2014 crashes when printing to Fiery server

This is to remind Adobe that issues printing to Fiery print servers from Indesign CC 2014 (10.0 or 10.1) on Mac have not been resolved.
A patch has been provided here: InDesign & Illustrator | Crash while printing to Fiery RIP | MacOS   --- however, the problem persists after patching. I should note that the fix at that link only pertains to Indesign 10.0. If you download Indesign 2014 from Creative Cloud you would, at this time, receive 10.1. That script will break 10.1 completely. There is no fix for 10.1.
The original thread for this discussion is here: Indesign CC 2014 crashes when printing   It's marked 'Answered' and methinks the ongoing conversation there has been over-looked.
I am bumping this topic to keep the conversation fresh. If anyone else has found solutions to printing to Fiery from Indesign 10.x either by updating Fiery directly or with additional scripts or workarounds, please share them here.
I could publish one of my 10.1 crash logs if I could be advised which pieces are most important, or how to post the unabridged without spamming the forum.
That's the constructive bit. Here's my rant...
After speaking to Adobe on the phone, they tell me this isn't resolved yet because it affects only a small subset of people. I called some peers at other agencies across my region and learned they all use Indesign with Fiery servers. We are not an isolated few! (those fortunate individuals I spoke to are still using CS6 -- and I received some jovial ribbing for having my on-going CC subscription.) I have a lot of printing to do on the Fiery now that these projects are finishing, but i'm held up while down-saving these projects to be used in CC (9.x). Its frustrating, its time-consuming, and its simply unacceptable to CC subscribers as we move in to 2015. I urge Adobe to work with EFI to solve this problem once and for all.

  • Bad crash when printing to pdf in Morningstar software - is it a 64 bit problem?

Had bad crash when printing to pdf in Morningstar Principia Pro software - is it a 64 bit compatability problem? All other software I have can print
to Acrobat pdf, but in Morningstar the Window 7 PC freezes and not even Task manager can
unfreeze the computer. Acrobat worked fine in my old XP 32 bit PC when printing from Morningstar. Recently a webinar using
an Adobe webinar software I was told I must only use a 32 bit browser, so I suspect Acrobat is incompaitble with my new 64 bit PC. Work around solution is to print to Microsoft XPS and then convert to Acrobat but I want to use Acrobat only! Is there a patch for people using 64 bit PCs?
Can someone at Adobe respond to me, please? I have used Acrobat for over 10 years and am very loyal.

Michael: I have tested other programs ability to print to Acrobat and also tested ability for other programs to
export to Excel or Word. The only crash is when printing an Acrobat pdf from Morningstar Principia Pro I get a bad crash. The work around is to print to XPS and then convert the XPS file to Acrobat pdf. To get out of the crash which can't be fixed by Windows Task Manager shut down, is to open the printer file and tell the printer to delete the pending print job.
I'm using latest Version 9.3.4 Standard Acrobat; Win 7 Pro 64 bit, 10 g of RAM, HPE 390t standalone PC, no networking.

I have been using Lightroom 4.4 successfully for over 2 years.  Just tried to import some new photos after a vacation and the application crashes when I click "import" every time.  Tried restarting computer.  Version says it is up to date.
How do I get formal support for this from Adobe?

Thanks for the response.  The application was crashing.  A Windows message was displayed showing "Lightroom.exe has stopped working", "Windows can check online for a solution the problem.". Etc.
I just launched Lightroom to check the exact message for this reply - and the Import worked.  It had failed dozens of times before.
