Application Crashing on iMac
My MacFamilyTree application kept crashing. I contacted the vender and they said it was an older version (bought it 6 months ago) and that
i needed to delete it from my files and download the newer version. I've tried three times to open the new download but keep getting the message, Plug-in missing (or something like that). Is putting the application in the trash enough to remove it from my mac (desktop Mac OS X version 10.5.8) I'm not very computer savvy. Any helpful info will be so appreciated. Elizabeth

Applications crashing when iMac (Intel) goes idle
Hello Evryone,
I'm facing some challenges with my iMac Intel 27" as several applications simply crash after the iMac sleeps and goes idle. When I leave applications like iTunes, Skype, Firefox running in the iMac I realize that after a while (btw 30-45min) it crashes. The is no Kernel Blue screen or any other alerts, it simply Forces Quit.
I already run several times of Anti-virus, running it multiple times but all of them come back clean. I have also performed a Disk Utility with the Repair Disk Permissions enabled but the problem persists.
Does anyone has any tips?
Looking forward to hear from you...
Cheers, MaxStart with http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/multipleappsquit.html

CRASH REPORT
Product: Adobe Photoshop CC
Application running on:
Apple iMac 3.5GHz late 2013 / Mavericks 10.9.2
Application crashes without warning. Symptom: Drop down boxes go blank white (I shot screen captures of blank drop down boxes) and application stops working, actions for appox. 10 minutes preceding crash are lost. Force Quit required to quit unresponsive / frozen application and then Restart of Adobe Photoshop CC
Crash Frequency: Three time in this work day, 5.6.14 Once a day sporadically (approximately 10 times) in past two weeks.
Other applications running at time of crashes: Adobe Bridge - NOT effected. Computer was on line with no browsers open.
Otherwise computer continued to operate normally.
I have been using Adobe Photoshop CC for approximately two months. Thanks, Chris,
I hope that this is the solution.
re: "And a crash report without an actual crash report (a long, detailed text document available from the crash report dialog), is not all that useful" :
I did in deed submit a homemade crash report.
I would have submitted "an actual Crash Report " and sooner, but: When this event occurs. there are NO dialog boxes. All frozen / blank. No possibility of "actual crash report" !
Thank you! -
First day w/ new iMac -- applications crashing
Today is my first day with a new flat screen iMac. I started out by transferring my files from my older Mac (Power PC), running 10.4.7.
After completing the transfer -- and downloading new versions of the assorted applications -- my new iMac has been crashing many applications all day long. Toast, for example. I've tried two burns tonight and both crashed during the final burn stage.
GoogleEarth is another. It won't even open on this new computer, crashing instantly. Internet Explorer (admitted, an old version), also crashed. PeerGuardian is another.
Why all these crashes? Did I do something wrong? Should I reinstall the master discs on this new drive, as opposed to continuing on with the transferred versions? Is it the jump up to 10.5.3?
Thanks...Migrating PowerPC applications to an Intel Mac can be unreliable. I'd recommend downloading the latest Intel versions of the applications you need and re-installing them. From a security perspective using IE is a bad idea and given that MS stopped releasing versions / supporting IE on Macs many years ago. Firefox 2 and Safari 3 are good browsers and Opera and Camino have many fans too.

I can't use Wifi Scan utility because of the application crash
I launch the "Wireless Diagnostics.app" application. Go to the menu - Window - Utility (cmd+2). Then i click on the Wifi Scan tab and the application crashes.
I tried to launch this app on several devices: MacBook Air 2014, iMac 2011, MacBook pro with Retina 2014, MacBook Air 2008. The problem occurs on any of them.
I remember a year ago i used this app and it worked perfectly. Please help me to solve the problem.
Below i attach a crash report.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.

I installed Mavericks yesterday and have now got problems with QuarkXpress 9. Every time I click on an image and try to move it the application crashes. Anyone had similar problems or got any suggestions?
Hi Guys
Updated my 2 imacs to Maverick yesterday. Schoolboy error on my part not checking if there were problems with any programmes before I did.
Quark is now a nightmare with no short term answer on the way. As a Quark user for over 20 years this is just another reason to hold your hands up and say OK Indesign you win I will have to learn how to use you and Quark will be a distant memory.
I am told there will probably be no solution to getting quak 9 running on Maverick and that you will need to update to 10 in about 2-3 weeks to get back to normal. Having spent a few bob on 2 versions of 9.5 only in Feb this year i didn't really want to upgrade yet.
So its cough up to carry on using Quark or learn Indesign.
I have lost faith in Quark as they are quick to send me e-mails asking me to upgrade to this and that version, why didn't they send one out saying do not upgrade to Maverick. Perhaps they know there loyal follwing will uograde to 10 and will generate a nice little bonus before Xmas.
Lots to do today and will now take 10 times longer to do it. Is this 2013 or 1974!!!!!
If anyone hears of a solution please post ASAP -
Application crashes when making Comments in Acrobat Pro XI
I'm using Acrobat Pro XI on an iMAC... I'm trying to make 'comments' to a pdf file I have created, but every time I type in the 'comment box' the application crashes. Is anyone else having the same problem, if so, have you been able to find a work around?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. What you may remember, and what is still in Acrobat Pro XI, is the ability to align form fields when in form editing mode.
However, the new text editing features allow some degree of alignment. There is no align tool, nor an align command.
If you're trying to align the baselines of text, I'd first show the rulers (View > Show/Hide > Rules & Grids > Rulers) and draw a guide from the ruler to the baseline of the first text frame. Then as you're moving a frame (and it can be tricky when the frames are small), you want the Move cursor (looks like the Move tool in Photoshop). If you do that you should see green alignment "smart guides" appear as you drag. Finally, while still in that mode, you can tweak the position of a text frame by using the arrow keys on your keyboard to move in approximately 1 point increments.
I would also appreciate the ability to align like in a layout program like InDesign, but they haven't yet included it. -
Application crashes/pixelation and remnants since installing snow leopard
Since a HD replacement and installation of Snow leopard 10.6.1 I get frequent application crashes accompanied by partial or complete pixelation of my display including freeze of finder.
Or, if not a total crash, I am getting lots of remnants around open application windows..like partial window frames..in black about 50 of them something like [[[[[[[[[[[[[application]]]]]]]]]]]].
What is up with this??? Can it be corrected.
Last week Apple store replaced my HD and loaded it with Leopard..and it really hasn't run very well since then? All these problems started. Should I just take it back and say;;NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! FIX THIS MESS!!
Just wondering at the problems and mess that are taking more time than I can give.HI Gary,
*Should I just take it back and say;;NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! FIX THIS MESS!!*
Try the following first...
Run the Apple Hardware Test from your iMac install disk. (Not the SL disk).
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
Also, check the start up disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space
*get frequent application crashes*
If these applications are 3rd party, then try deleting them. They may not be compatible with 10.6.

Application crashes when printing
hi, whenever i try to print, the application crashes. this is the same regardless of which application im using,(opera, acrobat reader, neo office, etc.)
im using a lexmark z1380 printer and an iMac with 10.5.6.
any help greatly appreciated!
danI bumped into at least a partial answer trying to figure this out. It seems like the System/Library/Frameworks directories may have been corrupted. I recently installed the 2009-001 Security update (too soon to tell if that was the culprit). What I did to fix the printing problem was to Archive a copy of the System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework directory from my wife's MAC. I made an acrhive of the same directory from my Powerbook. I then deleted that directory. I copied the archive of my wife's MAC to my Deskptop and unzipped it. Then I MOVED - not Copied (Copy will not work) that entire directory from the Deskptop to the System/Library/Frameworks directory. This not only solved my problem with the Printing Crashing - it also solved the problem of my MAC not responding to either the Shutdown or Restart Options. Something definitely corrupted this directory structure. Note: You will need to supply the Authentication Password when you Move the Directory. Hope this helps.

Intel MacBook + 10.4.9 = application crashes :-(
After updating our MacBook (Intel) to 10.4.9 using the software update several applications crash on startup and others under other conditions. Some examples ...
(1) iChat crashes after about 15 secs, but after connecting to the AOL server.
(2) iTunes crashes immediately.
(3) Skype crashes just after we become "available".
(4) Safari crashes when we click on the "Mac OS X" tab of the apple site.
(5) Editing of pictures in the address book or in the "Users" pane of the "System Preferences" also results in a crash.
Another user posted he had problems with the KeyChainAccess, but that the application ran fine under Rosetta ... I tried iChat under Rosetta and found that it worked fine also. The post referring to the KeyChainAccess problem is here
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4225941
It is possible that our problems are related to the KeyChainAccess. Although running KeyChain First Aid did not improve upon the situation.
A second KeyChain experiment we ran was to create a new account and try running iChat from there. In this instance, iChat crashed immediately.
Another feature of the update is the presence of an occasional faint repetitive clicking sound (the hard disk I think) comes and goes. When audible, we get the spinning beach ball and the system is non-responsive.
Beyond that, my internet connection appears very slow. However, there is presently no conclusive indication that apparent slow connection speed is related to the update.
Next on the plan, is the Combo Update. Due to our unusually slow internet connection, I'll have to come back and report on the result in an hour or so.
PBG4, iMac (G4 flower pot), iMac (Intel), DualG5, MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.9)I've applied the Combo Update for 10.4.9 over the Intel Update applied by Software Update.
Nothing changed. The same applications crash.

The Sims 2 application crashing.
Has anyone been able to run The Sims 2 on a MDD with a GeForce4 Ti 4600 under 10.4.11? I can run the tutorial for a few minutes before getting an application crash. Excerpt from the crash reporter log:

First time trying to run The Sims 2 on this newly acquired MDD.I looked in the ASPYR support and found the correct installation order for the game and expansion packs that I have here:
http://support.aspyr.com/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=8&id=552
I still get the same crashes during the tutorial, normal game play works for a little while longer, although there is some occasional flickering of the graphics to a plain green screen every now and then. What seems to crash most of the time is doing a rotation of the 3D view, but that's kind of random, I can't reliably predict what will make it crash.
I guess I'll consider a new video card for my MDD, lots of good discussions in the archives here. As I am learning, VRAM is not the only important feature to consider. I hope I could find one that still has 3D support in OS 9, as well as 10.4.
I'm not sure how well Sims 2 would run, if at all, on my (black) MacBook with GMA950. Time to get a new iMac, those new models look great. -
I am having a problem with three of my applications crashing randomly. Mail, Safari and a game = Minions of Mirth.
I spend most of my day using windows applications inside parallels. The I don't experience crashes while working with parallels, but when I start using these other three programs I start getting the crashes.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
KelldogI too had random crashes/sudden quits using Mail and Safari in Tiger (10.4.11 on aluminium iMac 24" - August 2007).
Since updating to Leopard - (10.5/10.5.1) - all is well. -
Apple Applications Crash After Time Machine Restore
I recently had to do a full system restore using Time Machine. Ever since the restore completed, most of the Apple applications on my iMac immediately crash when I try to open them. Luckily, Disk Utility is one of the applications that does not crash, so I tried to verify/restore permissions, however, when I try to, I am given this:

However, according to this KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448, those are all errors that I can "safely ignore".

In addition to not being able to run about 95% of my Apple applications, I can also no longer connect to my Time Capsule Time Machine backups. I am able to SEE the files in the built-in hard drive, but I can not mount the sparsebundle for the backups of any of my computers. I am however able to access them on a different computer. Also, if I try to use System Recovery from my Snow Leopard install disk again, it can't find any backups on my Time Capsule, even though my other computer can view the files with no problem.
Any help with any of these problems would be greatly appreciated.I had a couple of apps start crashing today, with basically the same stuff in the crash reports.
Reinstalling Safari (which also reinstalls the WebKit and JavascriptCore frameworks, which seem to be part of the problem) worked for me.
I found that solution here, after Googling for "Symbol not found: __ZNK3JSC6JSCell17getTruncatedInt32ERi":
http://www.meproxsoft.de/tag/time-machine/
I know very little German (even though I took German in high school-- it might have helped if the teacher actually knew English), but I managed to get "repair permissions" and "reinstall Safari" from all that. -
Every application crashes when i try to print from it!
Hello everyone, i have an HP 1012 laserjet and it was working perfectly fine until i installed all the updates for the ILife and everything else that came out earlier this week. Anyone know what is going on??
I had the same problem as well. All applications crashed when I tried to print.
I found the solution at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=199701&highlight=printing+crash.
What I ended up doing was to delete the system's printer drivers (located in Macintosh HD > Library > Printers), then re-installing them from install disk one (optional install). This was suggested by "mad jew" on macrumors, and worked for "EricNau" (using 10.4.6 on iMac G5 17") as well as myself (using 10.4.6 on MBP 17"). Hope it works for you as well. -
10.6.4 makes applications crash after upgrade
iTunes, all of Adobe cs4, Quark XPress and several other applications crash without launching after upgrading to 10.6.4. Any suggestions?
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 3 GB
Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MP11.005D.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.7f10I have exactly the same problem. I upgraded a MacBook Air, iMac 27 inch Core i7 and a MacBook Pro 15 inch core i7.
The MacBook Pro has been modified -- I installed a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid drive.
The MacBook Pro with the Momentus XT Hybrid drive has all the same symptoms you report. If I replace the drive with the Seagate Momentus 7200.4 that came with the MacBook Pro, then the 10.6.4 upgrade goes fine. I even erased and repartitioned the the hybrid drive, installed OS X from scratch, then installed the 10.6.4 update. As soon as I install that, applications crash when you try and launch them.
As I thought this was related to the Hybrid drive, I reported it to Seagate -- both at their user forums and by opening a tech support case.
http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Momentus-XT-Momentus-and/Possible-problem-Momentus- XT-and-OS-X-10-6-4/td-p/54217
Seagate tech support responded by suggesting I call Apple as all was well before the 10.6.4 update. Which is how I found this discussion thread. At least it is not just me!
Any resolution yet?
David
