Application Express Printing in 3.1 and Oracle 9i

Hi,
I am running Application Express 3.1 on a Oracle 9i box using application server 10.1.2 for the web server and when ever we try to do any printing to PDF files it files, changing to HTML give me the following errors; (it works fine from our 10g2 box also running Apex 3.1)
Any ideas on this?

Unfortunately I can't provide much help, other than that we have seen this before with 9iR2, but haven't yet figured out when this does occur, so not sure if it's related to a specific patch version. If possible, I'd recommend upgrading to database 10g or higher. And if we do figure out under what circumstances this problem comes up in 9iR2, I'll post this on the forum.

  • PDF PRINTING using Apache FOP and Oracle Containers for J2EE

    Hi,
I am having major confusion about the pdf printing in Oracle XE and Apex 3.1.2.00.02
It clearly states that this is an available option on the Oracle website.
According to Apex there are two options for printing report regions.
    Standard - which is free
Advanced - which uses BI and requires a licence
Standard requires me to have Apache FOP (which is provided by Oracle in the Apex release) and Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J)
Where my understanding of all this falls down is the part where I am downloading the Oracle Containers for J2EE and the license agreement states this cannot be used in a production system (only as a protptype). Can anyone clarify this? This is surely a required componenet and for the standard report printing which is supposed to be free.
My problem is that I need to have a database system on a laptop that will go off site for a number of weeks. We need report printing options.
Can anyone help with this. im desperate.
    Kind regards
    colin mclay

no not yet with Application Server.
I have tried to compare the settings to another installation with a separeted oc4j as described in the howto. But at the moment i found no mistakes.
If i call the url adresse like:
    http://localhost:18101/fop/apex_fop.jsp
    i get:
    500 Internal Server Error
    Servlet error: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: fop.apex__fop
I installed it another time with these settings:
Web Anwendung= .../fop.war (selected war file from apex install directory)
    Anwendungsname= fop
    URL zuordnen= /fop
I would like to know if its possible to use the fop.war out of apex install directory with the Application server? In the standalone version (as described in howto) it works. But if you install it there you don't need to define an URL.
Is the URL /fop correct or what do i have to insert there?

  • Configuring Problem in Oracle Application Express  3.0  Print Server

    hi all,
Configuring for my Oracle Application Express Print Server in apex 3.0 I have used apache foa and made all steps in the documentation
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html
the print attribute works but I have a problem in the pdf print with characters.
My reports columns characters are turkish and when I linked to print pdf the print the turkish characters are seeming #
and I try to change in the script apex_fop_render.jsp I changed the encode but the problem was not solved. Can you help please urgently!
    I am waiting your helps!

Apache FOP does not support some character sets out of the box, i.e. Asian languages require additional configuration steps. Not sure about those non-standard ISO characters in the Turkish alphabet though. But since you’re writing that those are returned as #, looks like the same problem. There should be information available on the Internet on how to configure those fonts and character sets with Apache FOP. Once BI Publisher is out, using that as the rendering engine with APEX might be another alternative to consider, as that product will support this out of the box.

  • Defining and Viewing BLOB Data in Oracle Application Express 3.2

    Hello All,
There is a nice tutorial for working with images in Application Express 3.1 entitled "Defining and Viewing BLOB Data in Oracle Application Express 3.1". I have 3.2 and I am finding that I can't follow this tutorial... Is there any similar how to for 3.2?
    Thank you,
    Daniel

    Hi,
I have just gone through the first steps in my OTN workspace app, and I do get the Implementation option (showing Interactive or Classic). In fact, my page at this point matches exactly the image shown in the tutorial.
My OTN workspace app uses Apex version 3.2. The Interactive reports are relatively new, so older versions of Apex would not have this option. But you say that you are using version 3.2? If you just try to create a report page on, say, EMP, do you get the option to select Interactive or Classic?

  • Need help on installing Oracle Application express 3.2

    Hi,
I had downloaded Oracle 11g database and installed the personal edition.I got the Enterprise manager login page working and also the DBConsole
I had Downloaded APEX 3.2 and wanted to install apex 3.2.I wanted to do the following scenario
Scenario 3: Install from the Database and Configure the Embedded PL/SQL
    Gateway
Planning to do these steps: ( I have few questions on these steps and are below each step)
    ■ Running the apxconf.sql Configuration Script
Do I have to install Oracle Application express or is it already installed in 11g personal edition?
Do I have to create a seperate database or schema for this step( I have only one instance orcl1) ?■ Verifying the Oracle XML DB HTTP Server Port
Can I do this step in my current orcl1 instance,if so which user■ Enabling Oracle XML DB HTTP Server
Once I carry out these steps, Can I access the admin page for apex with https://localhost:port/apex_admin ?
Am I missing any other steps ?
    Thanks

    I have one idea..
    Try to install again:
    1) download and unzip apex_3.2 in $ORACLE_HOME
    You will have:
    $ORACLE_HOME/apex - old directory
    $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2 - new directory
    2) in command line go to $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2/apex
    run sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    in sqlplus run @apexins tablespace_apex tablespace_files tablespace_temp images
    Where:
tablespace_apex is the name of the tablespace for the Oracle Application Express application user.
tablespace_files is the name of the tablespace for the Oracle Application Express files user.
tablespace_temp is the name of the temporary tablespace.
images is the virtual directory for Oracle Application Express images. To support future Oracle Application Express upgrades, define the virtual image directory as /i/.
    Example:
    @apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/
    3) check installation log for errors
    4) in command line go to $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2/apex
    run sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    in sqlplus run @apxconf
    set admin password
    set port
    5) run @apxldimg.sql $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2
    6) check for running listener and try to login apex: http:\\host:port\apex\apex_admin
    Good luck!

  • Best beginner book for Oracle Application Express?

    Hello Dear members,
I've got 12 years of experience developing Oracle applications using Oracle Forms and PL/SQL, that bit I'm an expert.
But I'm torn between which book to buy to learn Oracle Application Express.
The Expert Oracle Application Express vs Oracle Apex Cookbook is my main competition.
I'm already doing the 2 day Developer guide, but want to go in a bit deeper.
    All of your suggestions welcome.
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Ravi,
If you are not at all familiar with Application Express i would reccomend getting Beginning Oracle Application Express 4 because you will find that Pro Oracle Application Express 4, Second Edition, Expert Oracle Application Express and Oracle Apex Cookbook assume you have more of an unserstanding and some parts wont make sense. I had friend of mine get an advanced book and then immediately go back and get the beginner book because it just didnt have much meaning to him.
    Thanks,
    Tyson Jouglet

  • Urgent Application Express response

    Hi all:
I am developing an application using APEX, this application will be requested from an external web application.
The http request of the external web application will add some variables which will include users information that I will need to to use in my APEX to determine the what to display on the the page.
My problem is how do I do this, it appears that the REQUEST variable of APEX only works when APEX is already running for the user and will not display a thing upon the first request of the external application.
    Please help me

    Hello,
    >> The http request of the external web application will add some variables which will include users information that I will need to to use in my APEX
The f?p syntax - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e11838/concept.htm#BEIJCIAG – allows you to set the APEX items you need. Bear in mind that this URL is in clear text, and public. You shouldn’t use it for sensitive data.

  • Reports from Java and Oracle database

    Hi
I need to generate couple of reports from my application, with Java as front end and oracle 11.2.0.3.0.  database . Reports are  having very simple select statements, using the criteria users enter from GUI. we don't need to execute a  direct select statement from Java, with the where clauses . I did some research and found out about Pipelined functions. I tested for a small set of records and it worked fine. Will this work for large data set? any drawbacks of using this method?  Any other methods for this requirement?
    Thanks in advance
    JP

Pipeline table functions do not sound like the appropriate approach. It is designed to primarily deal with data transformations. Using it as a rendering engine for report writing? There are fundamental problems with such an approach.
As Dave and Andre commented - the CORRECT means for PL/SQL to pass "data" to Java (or other client languages) is via reference cursors (pointers that the client can use for referencing SQL cursor programs on the server). And Java as a report writer does not really compare with the ease and flexibility that Oracle Apex (Application Express) provides as a reporting framework.

  • Importing components to Application Express

When trying to import a component export into Application Express with same app Id and workspace I have problems when I get to the report layouts and report queries.
I get this for some, not all of the report layouts:
    Component Export: REPORT LAYOUT 30423319886223781
    ...report layouts
    WWV_FLOW_API.ERR_REPORT_LAYOUT_CREATE ORA-00001: unique constraint
    (APEX_030200.WWV_FLOW_REPORT_LAYOUTS_IDX2) violated
but the import continues until it gets to the report queries, I get through 5 and then this:
    Component Export: SHARED QUERY 25478002913036435
    ...shared queries
    declare
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00001: unique constraint (APEX_030200.WWV_FLOW_STORED_QUERIES_UK1) violated
    ORA-06512: at "APEX_030200.WWV_FLOW_API", line 6261
    ORA-06512: at line 32
    then it stops and quits...
Why am I getting this on only certain report layouts and queries??

    Hi,
I think you are posting to wrong forum. Virtualization Discussion Forum is here.
    Oracle VM Server for x86
    Anyway,
There is by default obe workspace. User and password for that workspace is obe
If you need login to APEX administration, then use apxchpwd.sql from oracle user home folder to reset INTERNAL workspace ADMIN user password.

  • Application Express 2.2 on Windows x64 Edition?

    Hi,
I am running Application Express 2.2 on a server running Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition with Service Pack 1. I am running Oracle Enterprise Edition 10g R2, and I also have Oracle Application Server 10.1.3 installed.
Whenever I log into our application express applications, the server slows down majorly. I have to end the process for the explorer window and restart the htmldb service for it to go back to normal again. In my alert.log file, I see errors such as the ones below that occur at the same time that I try to login to an htmldb app. Is ApEx 2.2 for 32-bit only? Could this be causing problems, or could it be something else? Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi Nora,
Application Express 2.2 is supported on Windows Server 2003 Standard x64. There really is nothing magical about Application Express - it's all SQL and PL/SQL, so it runs without problems across any platform that runs PL/SQL (unless it's EBCDIC, but that's another story).
This looks like an underlying database issue. I found evidence of a couple issues filed by customers with the same symptoms - and they weren't using Application Express at all. This further supports my assertion that it's a database issue on your platform and not an issue with Application Express, per se.
Unfortunately, all I can recommend at this point is that you contact Oracle Support and/or file a TAR. They are in a better position to assist.
    I hope this helps.

  • SQL Command problem in Application Express 3.2.0.00.27

To Oracle Application Express Development Team,
Yesterday I installed Oracle Application Express 3.2.0.00.27.
While doing my r&d, I came across one problem in SQL Command.

    Regards

    Tobias,
Not sure if this will fix your problem, but I do not have the PlsqlDocumentPath defined in my marvel.conf file.
I'm using 10g and Apex 2.2 on one machine, and Oracle Application Server on another machine.
Try commenting the PlsqlDocumentPath line out and see what happens.
