Application for a user to cap data usage?

Why do none of the 'smart' phones come with an application to cap data usage....?
If you are pay as you go, the networks know when to cut you off, it is around the time your prepaid amount hits zero. So why cannot a user state yes I would like the ability to go over my allowance, or no I would like the data allowance to be the limit?
One particular network in the UK will charge £4.50 per mb when you exceed your allowance,
and even with this exorbitant fee, will not allow you to cap it.
Surely this would be a good basic tool to ship with any phone.

Probably because smartphones are designed to be permanently connected to the internet which is why all the networks offer "unlimited" data tariffs.
I put unlimited in quotes because these unlimited tariffs still have limits (500mb or whatever is stipulated per month). But you don't have to cap your usage unless you are an extremely high data user, in which case you shouldn't be on a PAYG tariff.
Even PAYG customers can pay for a similar "unlimited" add-ons to their standard PAYG tariff. For example, O2 offers 300 UK texts and 500MB of data when you top-up £10 a month. If you are charged £4.50 per MB when you exceed your allowance, this is a very good deal.
In most cases, unless you really don't use the smartphone to its full extent, being on a contract with "unlimited" data included works out cheaper than paying full price for the handset, and then paying for what you use on top each month. Most networks sting PAYG users for data usage.

Did you already have a look in the Shared Components section - Globalization - Translate Application?
The steps to follow;
1. Map your primary language application to a translated application
2. Seed and export the translation text of your application into a translation file.
3. ranslate text identified in translation file.
4. Apply your translation file and publish
5. Optionally translate messages which are used by PL/SQL procedures and functions.
6. Optionally identify any data that needs to be dynamically translated to support SQL based lists of values.

tried multiple times and i am getting more billing amount because of data usage

Mail isn't the only app using data. Turning it off there has no effect whatsoever on whether the rest of iOS or other apps you have installed. In fact most apps use data these days, at a minimum for Notifications and often for gameplay and other features.

How to secure BSP applications for external users on the internet?

I posted this question under Enterprise Portal forum but got no response. I am hoping some of you experts in this area can help.
We have developed BSP applications and set them up as iViews in Enterprise Portal 6. Our portal implementation will be used by external users.
We have security concerns that the access to the BSPs allows external users direct access to the R/3 system. We were told that we should use ITS application instead of BSP application for external users.
Do any of you have any insight into how we could work around the security problem with BSP applications, or BSP applications in EP6? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

In sense they are correct as to whether it is more secure or not would have to be a call by people who are more of an expert than myself.
But I can see there point the BSP runs directly on the system and uses the system security where as the ITS is basically just an RFC call. However for us we use a 620 server with BSP's and make RFC calls to our R/3 systems thus keeping people of the R/3 directly - however we are not opened to the Internet.

How do i enable office applications for all user accounts on the same machine?

Hi All,
I just purchased a new MBA and Office Hame & Business. Coming from the windows world I thought that one installation of office should be available to all accounts that I set up on the same machine. I set-up the user accounts then installed office 2011 for MAC and tried to access office from my daughters account -> can not locate office? Does MS expect that you need to purchase a separate copy of office for each user on the same machine?? I also don't want to waste precious harddrive space in the MBA to have separate copies of the same application installed.
Any help would be appreciated....

One install allows all your users to use Office. All your users have access to the Applications folder where the office apps are installed. Do you see the office folder from your daughters account in applications?

List of logon/logoff activity for a user in specfied date range

Hello all,
We have a requirement to check the activity of two users. It is requested that we get their logon/logoff and timeout activity in our PRD system for a specfic range of dates. To retrieve that info do we have to be auditing their user ID's or can it be retrieved via ST03N or some other report?
I was not sure whether this information would be available via a lookup in the USR02 table or not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately login has more than one spot as it is dependent on contexts and authorizations even.
Logoff could be network problems with a keepalive timeout, or server side session end, or client side termination (there are many clients).
Hopefully we will have more infos. Perhaps we can influence the authentication and client protocol because SAML supports single-log-off which might work with message based authentication but lead to a rather long log...

How do I startup an application for all users at login?

I know about launchd, but I want an application to start whenver a user logs in and run as that user. launchd stuff seems to run as root.
I would prefer to set this up to work for all users, but if that can't be done, just for the current user. I have an installer package and Id like to run this command to set this up from a bash script.

I found this bit of code which is very similar to something else I found.

That doesn't work. Anyone at all, even for a single user, how do I script a command to get an application to start when a user logs in under 10.8?

Set default application for *all* users

Hello people, my 1st post here, so forgive me for possible imprecisions, ambiguity, inappropriateness....
When I search how to set/change the default app for opening some type of file I always find the answer "through the getinfo". But doing that, I only change the default application for the current user.
I want to do that for all users of my mac, without repeating the getinfo process for each of them.
Is there any adminstrative tools for doing that?

You could download and install RCDefaultApp 2.1 for all users: check the Read Me and then test it on something to see if it accomplishes what you want.

Trying to provide a "visual" means for a user to filter data.

I have a very smple vi written to import an excel spreadheet, choose the data in two columns and plot it out on an x y graph. The trick y part is: the user would like to be able to view the chart and - using two markers - select the range of data he is intersted in actually saving. Since he always wants to save the same span (a given temperature range....say 200 degrees), he would like to move either the upper or lower marker, and have the other one follow, creating a sliding range of values. Once he positions the markers, he'd like to creat a new array, including just the values for the selected x range. This visual technique would provide a much faster means of the user selecting meaningful data than for him to go through the raw data. The requirements for choosing "good" data over "bad" data vary from test to test, so there's really no vible way to let LabVIEW do it mathematically. Can this sort of thing be done?

Your vertical markers would be cursors. With the Cursor Index property and the cursors locked to the plot, you can get the information needed to use the array subset information. Here's a simple example that shows how to use cursors. I didn't do the array subset and you would also need some logic to take care of the case when the user drags cursor b before cursor a.

Add Applications for New User to Dock

Hi,
I'm running a Server through a local account on an Imac controlling 10 Imacs and 12 Emacs for a Music dep. I recently set up some more Emacs running 10.4.11 for a different department. They're all networked fine and I've allowed access to applications for users through Legacy.
I can't figure out how to add an application or a folder onto the dock for a user where the application exists on the Emac but not on the Imac. The only applications or folders I can access are those available to the local user on the Imac. It's not an option to install the application onto the Imac

So when the "Art GCSE" Open Directory user logs in, you want the "~/Documents/Art GCSE" folder to show up in the dock? If so...
Log into the "Art GCSE" user on a client machine that has Workgroup Manager installed on it. When logged in as that user, open WGM (and authenticate to WGM as diradmin, not as that user). Select the user from the users list, go to Preferences > Dock > Dock Items. Select "Always" and choose the items you would like to always appear in the dock for that user. Under the "Documents and Folders" area, choose the "Art GCSE" folder.
Try this out and post back with any questions!

Live video application for multiple users with RTMFP

We developed a live video application in Flex that uses RTMP. In one session up to 5 users are able to publish their stream and up to 20 users can join a group. For saving bandwidth costs and making use of lower latency with UDP we check RTMFP. From reading the documentation it seems that RTMFP multicast is the way to go.
Our frist results and additional research surfaced two 2 issues:
- Streams have a live delay (which seems to be multicastwindowduration + buffertime) that takes up to 30 sec to disappear but seems to increase again
- The application allows one user to change the size of a published video (camera.setMode). This causes a freeze with RTMFP for the publisher and all subscribers. Changing the size several times can cause to make the video work again for the publisher and subscriber (some bugs are already reported here)
For solving these issues I wonder:
1.) Is RTMFP multicast able to deliver a low latency solution that is needed for face to face v/a communication?
2.) if yes - are there any settings suggested by Adobe for the RTMFP NetStream multicast properties (like multicastwindowduration property) and if not can you give me some hints what would work for reduce the latency that face to face communication gets acceptable?
3.) How to deal with the setMode issue - does this happen because I misconfigured RTMFP or is this API not supported? Will unpublish and publish solve the issue (what api series do I need to use to do so?)

1) any practical use of P2P multicast will have a delay measured in seconds. it shouldn't go to 30 seconds unless you have a large NetStream.bufferTime.
2) i strongly recommend against changing the multicast stream parameters. they all interact with each other. decreasing the window duration will decrease the effective reliability of the stream, by reducing the amount of time to receive all of the fragments of the stream as they pass through the P2P group -- especially when people join or leave the group, which can disrupt the low latency "push" trees that are constructed in the group.
3) you should be able to change the encoding parameters on the fly without a major disruption. are you using H.264 or Sorenson Spark? it's possible that your camera doesn't like to have its capture size changed and it is freezing temporarily. i'm not having any trouble changing the capture size with my camera (and using H.264). i recall there being some issue with changing the frames-per-second on the fly (at least some time ago, and i don't remember what the issue is) -- there was enough of an issue that i disabled it in my little app while actively publishing.

JWS installed client application for all users on one PC

For a PC (or Mac), Can one install a client application using Java Web Start & JNLP for all users on
that particular machine? If so, how do you do it?

Shared Computer - Want Creative Cloud Application for single user only on Mac

Hi, the creative cloud icon appears in the menu bar for all users on our family mac. I only want it for my own user, not for my family users, because they are asked about CC user and password. How can I set it up so that it doesn't appear in the menu bar for the other users? Note: The menu "Settings" can only be reached when logging on to Adobe CC first - so this is not an option as they don't have such a user.

unfortunately the description on how to disable doesn't work (I found it already in the internet before).
- For my own user (and also when I'm logging on with a family user), the Creative Cloud App doesn't appear in the list of apps. (See screenshot).
- For other users, it the "Log In Items" (German: Anmeldeobjekte) doesn't even appear (see screenshot).
