Application 'Grab' an intermittent probblem.

I've looked in the Grab discussions but most of the other peoples' problems were about it not opening at all or keeps quiting - not my strange problem.
So far, I've not had an opening problem with it (from its dock icon) but every so often, after I hear the camera shutter sound (two clicks), the display opens with a blank page! This happens after I've used it without any problems, but when it does happen I can do nothing to get it to properly record the image for me to save. It also used to happen with my older 2008 Snow Leopard iMac.
Is this a bug in Grab or is there something else I should look for - I've tried the preferences but the only items there are the cursor style choice.
Can anyone please advise me?

Step one is to log into a newly created admin user account and see if the problem persists.
Alternatively, use the built-in screenshot shortcuts. It's better than Grab, which only saves those pics as TIFF files.

Partial redeploy of an application ear fails intermittently

Hi,
I am trying to redeploy my application ear using deployment API provided by weblogic. The list of files which i try to redeploy are couple of jars and couple of wars one at a time. The problem is most of the times the deployment paritally goes through informing me that weblogic has transitioned application status from activated at last. But in some cases i see "<b>javax.management.InstanceAlreadyExistsException"</b> though the application is already present. Why does this happen where in the handle to ApplicationMBean tries to register the application as though it was new which is not the case. Check the exception below.

SUN JES 8.1 Q2UR2: Intermittently application server jvm crashed.

Application server jvm intermittently crashed but due to the feature in SUN JES 8.1 ur2 the application server will auto restarts the service. Most of the JVM crashes were due to memory corruption.
The following are SUN findings:
1) Multithreading issue that causes 2 threads writing on the same memory block
2) Based on dtrace, it indicated that there was a race condition happens but the jvm doesn�t crash during the occurrence.
Questions:
1) Is it possible that I can use dtrace to monitor the memory block or to find out the root cause?

csgan97: If there is a bug, we would like to identify it. All findings are hypothesis and we still dont have evident to really prove that is multithreading issue. Is it possible to use dtrace to track?

csgan97: Why? During the jvm crashed, the dtrace monitoring doesnt indicate any race condition. It only indicated twice but during that time the jvm doesnt crash.

If you have any JNI or 3rd party libraries that use JNI then those are the most likely source.

Session time out in ADF 11g application.

I am working for the ST BPO Project. We have one ADF application that is migrated from 10g to 11g.And our application is deployed on the weblogic server.
we are facing some session time out issues in the application which is intermittent and whenever we leave the web page for some times, the session get timed out and page gets errored out.
We have set the session time out parameter in web.xml as well as for AM.
Session Management:
Following are the parameters which we have set already.
1.     Web.xml
We have put the following session time out in web.xml:

Also, as per our investigation : After some times the view id of the page gets expired and hence the issue comes. Also the behaviour is only on the weblogic server and we don't face any issues in the local set up.
Kindly help us in solving this problem. Also let me know if any further details is required.

Prevent application from stealing all input

Some applications grab all keyboard keys in such a way, that my window manager (i3) does not get the keys any more that are meant for it. Until recently, I only came across dosbox and the qemu window with this behavior. But both of them offer a way to stop grabbing every input of the X server (by default, dosbox uses the key binding CTRL+F10, QEMU uses CTRL+ALT). But then I ran OgreSampleBrowser for which I could not find such a key binding (did I miss something). Thus, now I'm interested in a general way to prevent applications to grab every key event if they are part of a key binding of my window manager. Is there some way to only whitelist the ones, which may grab all keys? Additionally to that, OgreSampleBrowser also unconditionally grabbed all mouse input, but I could live with that.
Any ideas or help, how to circumvent the issue (and still being able to interact with the window manager) is appreciated.

It is kind of difficult to tell you anything without seeing what you do when the user logs off and just what you mean by turns off. Could you please expand on that: does the app close, do you loose your VPN connect, just what happens?

TLF code freezing up application

Since upgrading to the final release SDK for Hero, we have seen our application freezing up intermittently. As the stack trace suggests, it is related to clicking on points on a line chart.
Has anybody seen something like this before? It is suggested that this is probably any issue within FTETextField.

mx.core.FTETextField is not a class in TLF and It's not recommended that you take it as the container for TLF. s:TextArea, s:RichText, and s:RichEditableText are all good containers for TLF in Flex.

Problem with CS5 Photoshop Installer

I'm having trouble installing the latest CS5 photoshop. I work for a university that receives a licensed copy of the CS5 software that we then distribute to all the students. To make this possible we take the original installer, put it through the AAMEE to license it, put it in a disk image, put it up on our software server and students can then download it and install it through an application that we have written. The application works like this. The students launch the application, the application grabs the installers they select from a list and installs the ones selected. In order for the Adobe installers to work we have to take the installer, license it and put it in our own image. The problem comes with putting the licensed installed in a different disk image. After it's licensed it installs just fine, but when I put it in a disk image, mount the disk image and try to install it, the installation fails. I'm trying to figure out why the different disk image is causing it to fail, when it works in the original disk image.

Error Handling in WebUtil CLIENT_OLE2.get_obj_property

we have a problem with the error handling in WebUtil's CLIENT_OLE2.get_obj_property function. The WebUtil version is 1.0.2 and the problem can be reproduced on the 9iAS, 9iDS and 10gAS as well.
Problem description:
The get_obj_property function does not throw a PL/SQL exception when it is given an invalid object as first argument (i.e. an object handle to an application that has intermittently been closed by the user). Instead, the function returns a NULL value and the control flow of our application code continues as if the function had succeeded. So the problem is that the get_obj_property function neither throws an exception nor can the failure be caught by calling WEBUTIL_CORE.IsError as this returns that no error occurred.

If the procedure test is called once then the Word application is started and the procedure performs some work. The procedure could be called several times on the same Word instance but fails in case the user closes the Word application because the procedure does not get an exception or error from WebUtil's get_obj_property function. Only a JACOB Java exception is logged in the Java console of the user's computer - the PL/SQL code has no way of knowing that an error has occurred.
Possible solution / patch for webutil.pll:
The webutil.pll can be patched to throw an exception if it is given an invalid object handle. In webutil.pll version 1.0.2 in get_object_property, line 1205, just add the condition "(v_javaHandle IS NULL) or " at the beginning of the if-statement in that line so that an OLE_ERROR will be raised if v_javaHandle is NULL:

It is mentioned in webutil doc that, you must regenerate webutil.pll before using it; otherwise you’ll encounter error ORA-06508 when running a form with the attached library.

How do I save a jpg photo into iphoto?

My friend sent me some photo's through her email & they are all saved in jpg. So I do I save those photos into my iphoto? & I also can't get the whole control+command+4 for the grab screen shot so if I can get some help on that two that would be awesome!!! Thanks

If you are using Mail as your email client, open the email that your friend sent you and you will see the option to save the attachments (the photos). When you click on the "Save" buton, a drop down menu will appear with the option to save the photo to iPhoto. That's it.

[SOLVED] How to start JACK with KDE 4? (and which JACK should I use?)

I'm using KDE 4, and I've just installed JACK again, and since I can't find any decent documentation on this, I'm having a bit of a problem.
Currently I have jack from [extra] installed, rather than jack2. When I try starting jack as the ArchWiki suggests, i.e. by typing "jackd -d alsa", I get the following error:

I'm guessing jack doesn't want to start because some other KDE application grabbed alsa before jackd (but I've been wrong before), and I don't have the slightest idea what jack2 is about with that "generic" error. Yes, it was knotify4. So now this part works. I've switched to jack2 and it works flawlessly when starting it with jackd
So this part is solved... now, would you be so kind (if you know) as to point me to some tutorials or howtos (or proper documentation, cos I can't find much of that either) on how to connect various ALSA channels with JACK?
Basically, I want to route my PCM channel and the Mic channel into Capture 1 (or one to Capture 1 and other to Capture 2), since my Intel HDA audio card doesn't have the "Mix" or "What-U-Hear" or whatever as an available capture source. Any leads on that? (or do I have to open another thread for it?)

Listener complications in second oracle homes after 11.2.0.3 upgrade

Hi Everyone,
I am running Oracle 11.2.0.1 64-bit on Windows Server 2008 R2, and Application Express 4.1.1.
I decided to upgrade to 11.2.0.3 for the security/general fixes. I installed 11.2.0.3 into a separate home directory (home2) and then upgraded the 11.2.0.1 database using the DBUA. The upgrade went fine, and the database/Apex started up without incident.
At this point, I had one listener running from home1 - I have multiple database links and TNS entries which ran perfectly in 11.2.0.1. I figured since the database was upgraded, I would create a new listener from home2, replicate the listener/TNS entries for the database links but point them to home2, and turn off the listener from home1. So I did this, ran the listener2 on the same port as home1 (obvisouly after the original listener was shut down), and things were working for the most part, except that the database link queries in the Apex application would fail intermittently. One time it would work, the next time it would say "TNS error: connect identifier could not be resolved". This never occurred in the original configuration.
After some fiddling around with various listener settings, I ended up running the listener from home2 with the exact same listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files from the home1 NETWORK\admin folder. So basically the listener2 service is running, but all listener entries are pointing to the home1 location.
I am confused on how this is working... first, why would the listener2 running from home2 have random problems with the database links, and why does the listener2 configuration work while pointing to home1?

Vision Builder Crashes Labview

I have an application where I need to acquire and inspect many high resolution images 3Mp at high throughput.
I'm using:
LabVIEW 8.5.1
NI-Imaq 4.1

ISG 3Mp Camera through Startech 1394a PCI card
In order to meet the cycle rate, I'm trying to multi-thread the application by having one thread that acquires images and enqueues them into another thread that saves them to the hard drive then runs the VBAI inspection. The VBAI inspection then uses the "simulate acquisition" step inorder to load the image from the hard drive and make the appropriate measurements. I've run the application and monitored the processor usage, and the processor seems to stay within 0-80%. However, my application will crash intermittantly.
I've been able to repeat the behavior pretty reliably if I activate/toggle a ring control on my front panel while the cycle is running, and I can't do so if the VBAI thread is not running.
I understand that this is could be a difficult problem to help debug remotely. I'm wondering if there is anyone with similar experience, or some better way for me to creat a high throughput machine vision app with VBAI.

You are right, this is difficult to debug remotely, but I can make a suggestion or two. Perhaps you've taken care of these, perhaps not...
One potential downfall with this setup is running into a race condition. If you don't establish data dependency, and make sure that you save and close a particular image before trying to open back up again with VBAI, you could cause the behavior described. Race conditions would be even more of a concern if you were using a certain number of files as an image buffer, and then recycling through them.
What in this ring control? What does the ring control do?
Have you tried generating LabVIEW code from your VBAI inspection, and then encapsulating the VBAI code in a subVI, and just passing your images into that instead of saving them to disk? I would suggest doing this to see if you still experienced the crashes when you are only working in LabVIEW, and without saving and opening images from disk.

Business Rules are disappearing from forms in Hyperion Planning v 11.1.1.3

We are using Calculation Manager to create business rules in a planning v 11.1.1.3 application using EPMA, web logic and SQL Server. We have had several instances where business rules that were attached to forms suddenly would disappear. The form still is aware that there is an attached rule, because the application and database name appears in the Business Rules section of the form. However, all of the business rules in the application are no longer visible (i.e. the rule names are blank). The only way we have found to correct the problem is to make a copy of the rules in Calculation Manager and then redeploy the rules and re-attach them to the forms. The old rules still show up with blank descriptions. This has happened at two different locations and seems to corresond with application deployment, although intermittent. Any help would be appreciated.

If I understand what you're saying, I had the same or similar thing happen to me recently with v11.1.1.3, only I'm using classic Business Rules. I don't know why the problem occurs, although I think the root cause is probably related to inter-server communications, not to the corruption or loss of metadata. It happened to me in the target environment when I exported the rules from one environment and imported them into another.
When I encountered the problem, I opened and then saved (without changing anything) the business rule cluster I use for managing access rights. That resolved the problem, my guess is by giving the application servers enough of a kick in the pants to start talking to one another again.
I don't know whether this helps any, but I just thought I'd let you know you're not the only one who has seen this problem.

How do I print a hard copy my list of Film Rolls (text only)?

Besides the obvious of typing the info yourself into a word processor document?
You can take a screen shot of that portion of the iPhoto window showing the films roll list using the application 'Grab,' found in your Applications folder.
Just open it, and under 'Capture' choose 'selection' then drag the cursor over the list of Film Rolls visible in your iPhoto window. You will see a red outline of what will be captured. When you release the cursor, a picture of that selection is taken. You can print that out.
If you have more film rolls than appear in the window, just take the first shot, then scroll down and repeat.
