Application Hang in Winword.exe v. 2010 running on Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit - a standalone workstation

For seven days WinWord.exe continues to crash. It hangs when I try to save an edited word document. This should have been solved with DOS 2.0, but Microsoft in its questionable wisdom is still having problems with this simple procedure.
I have run Antivirus scans. I have run sfc /scannow. I have disabled background save for WinWord. I have repaired Office 2010.
I am alarmed and befuddled that something this basic still happens with Microsoft products.
My interest is doing work, creating documents. It is frustrating to see 20 or 30 minutes of labor disappear because the wordprocessor cannot save my efforts. It just loses the files!

Hi,
Try to start Word in safe mode and see if you can save files. You may install add-ins in any location. This will determine whether a COM add-in is causing the problem.
Press Win + R and type "winword.exe /safe" in the blank box, then press
Enter.
If safe mode fixs the issue, you might need to disable the add-ins one by one in File->Options->Add-Ins->Manage:COM Add-ins, then restart Word to verify the result. If Word works well, then the one you unchecked is the culprit.
You might also want to rename the Normal.dotm global template file and see if it helps. Just go to %Appdata%\Microsoft\Templates and rename the Normal.dotm file to Normal.dotm.old. When you restart Word, Word will create a new global template file.

Dave: I did the Microsoft Update two days before this happened, and rebooted as required. I just created a new restore point and lauched Creative Cloud. Now I get the famous white screen:
It just sits and spins (been 10 minutes now).
Fortunately, I saved away this command (which I've had to use 4 or 5 times already):
del %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE\opm.db
Unfortunately now, I get this (even after closing the above window):
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
So I killed everything that said "Adobe" in the task manager and this time, the command succeeded.
Fortunately, the current apps seem to still work. I can't seem to find the "Creative Cloud" app in the applications on my system, but I launched Photoshop CC, told it to look for updates, and got a list of the 5 prgorams that need updates in the Adobe Application manager:

Would there be any performance issues in CSM client software design if multiple instances of CSM client by multiple users ran concurrently on a Windows Server 2008 R2(64 bits) while CSM users accessing the server via Remote Desktop Services ?
In my environment, we have a CSM server at our major data center while security administrators from all over the world need to use this CSM server.
In order to overcome the latency of the CSM client due to the WAN network, the plan is to use a Windows Server 2008 R2(64bits) as a terminal server and all security administrators would need to access this terminal server via RDP and would launch CSM client on their desktop. The terminal server locates on the same LAN as the CSM server itself in order to minimize network latency in communications between the CSM clients running on the terminal server and the CSM server. there would be multiple instances of CSM clients running concurrently on the Windows Server 2008 R2, the terminal server.

Mid-2007 iMac Running Mavericks Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Install

How do I go about installing a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (OEM) partition on a mid-2007 iMac running Mavericks?
Apple says that 64-bit Windows 7 isn't supported by my model iMac, but I know for a fact that other people have gotten it to work. I'm just a little unclear on how exactly to do it. In any case, I made the mistake of buying two copies of Windows 7 64-bit under the assumption that they would install just fine on my iMac and MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro is from 2007 as well), so I need to get this working.
What version of Boot Camp should I use? What version support drivers should I download? Apple says that Boot Camp 5.1, which is what I have, is incompatible with my iMac, and it says the same thing for every driver download that supports 64-bit versions of Windows 7, but would it be correct to say that this "incompatibility" is only the case if I don't first modify my Windows 7 installation disc according to the instructions in the attached link?
There is a Windows XP partition on my MacBook Pro, so I figure I can get on it to modify the installation disc before attempting a 64-bit Windows 7 install on the iMac.

Application builder - Why my .exe opens with running status?

I have no problem in building the application. But when I open the application, it is always in running status. Thus I couldn't input control variables. The other applications I built don't have this problem though. The .vi and .exe files are attached. Thanks a lot for your help.

Richard gave you the right answer on how to change the behavior but typically, you would want your app to start automatically. Most programs are designed so that nothing is done until you do something like hit a start button. This could be done with an idle state if using a state machine or a separate while loop. You also might have a problem lith the use of your local variables. You have no data flow between getting Header Byte Number and the while loop that reads it. You may have the problem that the while loop will actually start before File Info gets the information. If you want that to run first, directly wire File Info to where you are initializing the shift register.

Setup.exe won't run on Windows XP?

I am trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows XP (Pro).
When I run setup.exe, nothing happens. The task manager process
list shows that setup starts and it starts jrew.exe, then both
disappear from task manager process list and nothing happens.

I am haveing the same problem, but with Win 2000 Server
I tried running the third tier setup i.e. \\install\win32\setup.exe
Doesn't work either. I disabled most of the services on my server, even terminal services (which requires the install from ad-remove progs)sitll no show.
It is an older Proliant server w. Quad P1's @200mhz but I think it meets the minimum requirements. And if it doesn't shouldn't I get an error?
I am trying to install this for home eval in my DBA cert class.

I have been using my Palm TX for years, with Chapura's KeySuite, in order to sync contacts, calendars, notes and tasks (including categories) with Outlook 2003 in two computers (home and office.) I expected to be able to do the same with the Palm Pre Plus, but this is what Chapura have told me:
"We only offer software that syncs with Palm OS or the Pre webOS devices. PocketMirror would be our software that works with these devices. The Pre webOS does not support categories for the calendar and contacts. The calendar and contact categories remain in Outlook. They just do not sync to the Pre. The tasks and notes applications that come on the Pre do not support categories. However, in order to sync tasks and notes we had to create our own tasks and notes applications for the Pre. Our tasks and notes application do support categories."
"You cannot sync with more than one PC using our Pre software. It is only designed to allow you to sync the Pre with one PC. The only software we offer that will allow a handheld to sync with multiple PCs would be our Palm OS software."
Bummer. So this means that I will be able to sync Outlook 2003 to the Pre (albeit imperfectly -- no categories in calendars nor contacts), but I won't be abe to sync to a 2nd PC...

Slight hang when loading Firefox 27.0.1 on Windows 8.1 Pro

I just upgraded from Windows 8 Pro to 8.1 and installed Firefox 27.0.1. Now Firefox has a fairly substantial delay when loading. When I say "fairly substantial" I mean about 6 seconds, every other program including IE is instantaneous and even Photoshop loads in about 3 seconds. I've tried everything I can think of, uninstall and re-install (including removing registry entries), turned windows firewall off, disabled add-ons, reset Firefox, etc, etc. Nothing has worked. Any suggestions?

Search c:\ drive and return file path for winword.exe and save as variable

Hi all, here is what I'm trying to do;
1. Search C:\ drive for winword.exe
2. take the file path and save it as a variable.
3. Then based on the path value, use the switch statement to run "some command"
Essentially I'm trying to find what the file path for winword.exe is, then run a command to modify the registry. I already have the script that will modify the registry like I want but the problem it, the path is hard coded in the script, I want to
now look for all versions of word and set the right file path so I can make the right registry changes.

Webdynpro Application hangs on executing query

I am having strange issue with Webdynpro application running JDBC code. Webdynpro application hangs intermittently when it tries to run the below jdbc code .

There can be any issue, i dont see any compile time issue with your code, but you may wana do a simplistic query first.
First of all, the statement and conection close, do it in the finally block, untill unless you are reusing it.
other than this.
First, after connection, see if you are getting the connection or not.

comment remaining stuff in the loop.
In the second shot, run a simple query like select count(*) from TABLE ;
to see if the connection and execution is fine. this will make sure

DRM Application Hang

Is there any known issue regarding DRM Application Hang?
we are frequently getting application hang error when all the following activities are running concurrently:
-multiple active user connections.
-blender/Automator running as a batch in the background
-web interface communicating with DRM to perform updates/selects.
The only way we are able to resolve this is by a windows server restart, even the console force stop/start does not work(console does not even start on an application hang)
We have the DRM server on a Windows 2003 Terminal server and our Database is Oracle 11g on a unix box. Though we have some timelag due to physical locations of these servers, The performance has been ok which was manageable.
Please let us know if there are any work arounds.

One thing I have observed was that the blender selections have a significant impact on its performance. If the blender has AllExcl\Val\Vefi selected under Hierarchy settings its takes more time eventually hanging up the system I think the performace is better when we have a selected property blend.
I deal with huge hierarchies like close 200,000 nodes per hierarchy, and working with MDM i have found out that using automator updates works more efficiently than a blender and we have automated all that stuff using batch scripts.
I also remember oracle running a fix for the blender issues we were having and haven't encountered it lately.
