Application Install issue; .dmg, iphoto
When I download and attempt to install software, a warning appears that says "this may be an application and will be opened by iPhoto". I don't want it opened in iPhoto, I want it installed! What am I doing wrong? What setting(s) do I need to change? It seems like it's a security issue...Thanks!
Silverlight is specifically giving me problems...

IPad and iTunes Capacity Issue/Application Install Issue
I've just spent the past hour trying to figure out why iTunes 10 is reporting I have 17.9GB of video although the iPad itself is saying I have 0 videos.
I am not syncing any music videos, movies, TV shows, Podcasts or content from iTunes U.
The iPad Free Space indicator is reporting I have 8.9GB avail, but counting video as using 17.9GB of my iPad's total capacity.
Anyone else?
I'm also trying to add Photogene to my iPad via iTunes and keep getting an error message indicating I need a newer version of iPad software to install, although I do have the most recent version. Seems like iTunes 10 issues.AshmiNYC wrote:

There seems to be some reports that iTunes is reporting the wrong numbers for the free space, thought that's not happening to me (as best as I can tell) on my iPhone and iPad.
As for Photogene, my guess is that you're trying to install the iPhone version on your iPad. The iPhone version only works on iOS 4.0, so can't be installed on the iPad. There is an iPad version, but you have to buy it separately. -
Applications installing issue after updating Softw...
Hi All,
Why the mobile applications dont't get installed in Nokia 5800 XM after updating the Software from Nokia???
Plz ans if anybody can...
Regards.Is that your main /Applications folder ?.
Command-click the folder icon at the top of the Finder window : does it look similar to this ?
or does it show above your Home folder, like this :
If the latter, those are old copies of apps in your Home folder & can be removed.
You can see the main Applications folder from Finder - Go menu - Applications (Command Option A). -
After I upgraded to Yosemite,iPhoto can't recognize my backup CDs created in iLife 09. The applications install disk won't install iphoto because iphoto 9.5 is already installed..I updated to a SSD and have the original Hard Drive with an updated iphoto which recognized the older CDs(thanks to iphoto expander). I thought that the iphoto that transferred with the new hard drive was the same as what was on the old one. I guess it wasn't. I really need to access my backups. HELP
Later version of iPhoto write to the library on opening, and so cannot open libraries on optical media, as that cannot be written to. Further, optical media is going e way of the floppy disk. Therefore, you need to use a different form of archiving and back up going forward.
To allow iPhoto to open these libraries you need to copy them to your Mac or an attached external disk.
To merge them into an existing Library will require that you use either Aperture (if you have it) or iPhoto Library Manager. -
MDT 2012 - Application Bundle Install Issues- Logged in as Admin randomly between reboots
Hi Everyone,
We are on MDT 2012 / WDS... Moving to SCCM soon but not soon enough.
A new problem started in our environment and I'm not sure if it's a networking, storage, or wds server / settings issue.
The OS deployment happens completely fine, but during the application install phase (Application Bundle) if the application requires a reboot sometimes the deployment does not continue with the rest of the applications, will just stop the process and be
logged in as administrator.
I've checked the normal deployment logs - bdd.log and there is no errors, it shows the last app install but then just drops off. Almost like the machine is not reconnecting to the deployment share to continue installations after the reboot.
This is very random and does not happen on the same app or just one machine model, it's almost like a networking hiccup or something else. The apps exist on the deployment share which is on a 2008 VM with Nas storage.
Any help is appreciated, other logs to look at or if anyone else has seen similar etc...
Thank You!Thanks for the help guys, I believe I'm all set now. Basically removed the reboot from the problematic app and put the app at the end of the app bundle.
This one was strange... It was the App-V client which I originally did not have a reboot and was the very first app installed in the bundle. With no reboot, I noticed some machines installed the app-v client then would skip all the other apps and move on
to the next phase, which is why I added a reboot.
After adding the reboot I started seeing the problem I posted above logged in as admin. So ultimately removed the reboot and added it as the last app, which seems to be working.
Thanks Again. -
I just got a new mac and I'm trying to download my Adobe CS3 onto it. I was able to download and then I tried to activate it. I entered the CS3 serial number and then asked for the serial number of the older version. I originally bought CS2 on disc and downloaded it onto my old mac and from there bought an upgrade to CS3. I no longer have the discs or box for CS2 and so I do not have the CS2 serial number. I contacted chat support who helped until I reached the point where I could open the application but then it would quit immediately and say "Adobe Update quit unexpectedly." Then he said it was an installing issue and turned me to the forums. Help, please?
JohnEden I would recommend running all available uninstallers to remove the current installation. The uninstallers are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder. Once you have ran the uninstallers then please also utilize the CC Cleaner Tool for a complete removal. You can find details on how to utilize the CC Cleaner Tool at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.

Can I install two different iPhoto applications on the same Mac?
Can I install two different iPhoto applications on the same Mac?
Please explain in more detail what you are wanting to do.
Do you want to have two different versions of iPhoto, have two different Libraries or Share iPhoto with multiple users?
Two different iPhoto versions (06 and 08, 08 and 09 for examples) is a problem and I say no because the older version can not use a Library that the newer version has modified.
For iPhoto support articles, see > Apple - Support - Mac Apps - iPhoto
To Share a Library with other users, see > iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users

Installed a dmg file, where is it? Not in applications...
His folks ,
I installed a dmg file named webexmc_intel.dmg
It looked like it installed, but the odd thing is that I can't find it. It's not in my applications, nor in finder. So what can I do now?
I like to find out where it installed and remove it as it does seem to work.
What I originally wanted to do is install a webex plugin for office Mac 2011. I tried to look for one since its not released yet ( that I could tell.)
Thanks for your help in advance. Not sure if it's a plugin or not. So if it is or not, how can I find it and remove it? If its hidden, I imagine it will be a little harder.

ILife '11 installed and now iPhoto won't open, "damaged or incomplete".
I was unable to use iDVD after having Mountain Lion installed. I had an iLife '11 disk and I installed it. I didn't see any changes in the application folder so I used the iLife '11 disk again, found the iDVD application and selectively installed it. Now I have and iPhoto icon with a white circle crossed out and when I try to open iPhoto, I get the message, "You can’t open the application “iPhoto.app” because it may be damaged or incomplete."
I don't know what version of iPhoto I have because there are just two dashes after the "version" when I Right Click and select "Get info" on the iPhoto.app line in Finder.
I have been reading support blogs for hours last night and this morning. I am afraid to try any of the fixes because I have already caused problems for myself and my problem doesn't seem to exactly match anyone elses problem, but seems to be a mixture of more than one problem.
I have a backup harddisk that was set to the time machine before I had my computer repaired. It only backs up to Dec 2, 2013. I have not hooked it up again yet out of fear that it will start backing up and mixing old with new. I had Lion before the repair (new video disk) and when I received the computer, Mountain Lion was installed. This was last week. I specifically asked that Mavericks not be installed because I was reading so much unhappiness with it.
So - any help extremely appreciated. I am frozen. You need to reinstall. There is no choice.
Note the instructions below for reinstalling from Disk:
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
I specifically asked that Mavericks not be installed because I was reading so much unhappiness with it.
There is much unhappiness with every version of every Os and App everr released - roll back to the release of Mountain Lion and you'll see exactly the same type of commentary. In the main, much of this commentary is useless.
The problems are manifold: for a start, happy people are less likely to review, unhappy people are much more inclined to. That's why we don't have thousands and thousands of posts on this forum from all the people who have no problems saying "look I have no problems". Unhappy people get cross and are more likely to express that anger in negative reviews.
Then what about the reviewer? What is his or her knowledge, experience and skill level? No doubt they are having problems, and real ones, but how do you know if their issues are problems with the app, their own inexperience, third party conflicts and so on. I've seen people on here claim the fact that iPhoto won't edit video is a bug. I've seen hundreds and hundreds of posts from folks on here who are certain they've found a bug, only for their glitch to be resolved. No review is worth anything unless you know something of the reviewer, his or her knowledge and experience.
So frankly, I never bother with those reviews on any such stores, not just iPhoto on the Mac App Store. -
Wanting to go "back in time" due to issue with iphoto 8.03
Everything was great on Sat. before I downloaded iphoto 8.03. Instead of jumping through hoops to try to fix my issues, can't I simply go back using Time Machine to iphoto 8.02? I've made minor changes otherwise to my mac since Sat. that I can duplicate no prob.
Can I revert back to my machine the way it was Friday or the time of my last back up?
Thanks!tamara, actually, the following would be even better than trying to restore the application from a Time Machine backup. Reinstall, iPhoto 8.0 from your original iLife `09 DVD, then update the application to the update just prior to the one you began having issues with.
First, open the Applications folder and drag iPhoto to the Trash.
Now insert the iLife `09 DVD and launch the installer.
Accept the license agreement.
When you get to "Installation Type" click the "Customize" button on the left.
If you removed iPhoto as described earlier then there should be a check mark beside iPhoto.
Click "Install".
When the installation is complete go to the Apple Support website and download the iPhoto 8.0.2 Update (I believe it was 8.0.3 that you had trouble with?):
http://support.apple.com/downloads/iPhoto8_0_2Update
Install the update.
Now your iPhoto application is back to the version it was before the 8.0.3 update. However, your photo library was likely converted when you applied the 8.0.3 update. As a result iPhoto 8.0.2 will alert you that the photo library is not compatible with this version of iPhoto.
To fix this, hold down the Option & CMD keys and launch iPhoto.
A window will appear giving you various rebuilding options.
Place a check mark beside "Rebuild the iPhoto Library from automatic backup".
Click "Rebuild".
This will convert the library back to a version compatible with 8.0.2.
Let us know if this resolved your issue. Cheers! -
Can't install the Bundled applications from the Applications Install Disc
Hi.
I can't install the bundled software, such as iphoto and so on. It says something about installation failed, without a fail code????? please help me it is so annoying! Ps. the Mac has i completly reinstalled MAC OSX on!I was having the same issue after reinstalling a MacBook Pro 17 with OS X 10.6.6 this weekend.
When trying to install the Applications Install DVD, I got the message "An unknown installation error has occurred".
I connected the MacBook Pro to the Internet and let it download software updates. After rebooting, it had updated to OS X 10.6.8. Applications Install DVD came back with same error. Then the software updates ran again and this time there was an Apple Software Installer Update 1.0 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1512) . After this update, the Applications Install DVD loaded fine.
Hope this works for you. -
The install does not complete, it crashes during first boot up.
The crash report is attached.
This is a late 2007 MBP having serial No W8742289YAL
2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor.
Previously Mavericks was working but during latter installs I have had to build up from Snow Leopard.

Please can sombody help me with that?
Thank youAre you running Snow Leopard or Lion? Your info says Snow Leopard. If it's lion then:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Then you can locate the folders mentioned.
