My macbook pro (A1260) won't boot; powers up for 3 seconds and then shuts down.

Just recently my MBP A1260 gave up on me. When I push the power button, the dvd drive and hard drive both start, but the screen remains black. After 3 seconds, the hard drive makes a click and the whole laptop powers off. I suspect the hard drive has failed due to the click it makes, and I've had hard drive issues in the past.
If the hard drive was the issue though, wouldn't the screen with a folder and question mark come up and the laptop stay on? That is what's happened in the past. I just took it to the apple store to have them look at it and they suspect the logic board. However, I was wondering if there was anything I could do to confirm this. I don't like the idea of spending $400 to repair, but I will if necessary. I also read that this model of MBP has issues with the Nvidia chip and the repairs would be free if this was the cause. Is there any way I could be sure it's the Nvidia chip, or any suggestions to get some life back in my MBP?

Apple repair is going to be your best bet. If it is the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor that is built into the logic board, and fails within four years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge.

I've tried my best to troubleshoot. . . opening in safe mode nothing seems to work.

Muvo V200 Starts up for one second and then shuts do

Hi,
I bought my Muvo V200 two weeks ago and was delighted with the quality. Yesterday I went to use it and it starts up to reveal the Creative logo and then shuts down straight away. Now the computer wont recognise it either (although a graphic does appear on the muvo screen saying that it is connected to the computer). Ive tried updating the firmware but the installer gets errors. What do I do?

Other people have had the same trouble so I don't think it's because you're in an Internet cafe, but it would be better if you had access to a PC that you could install the drivers onto. Without them you can't get into Recovery Mode.
Perhaps someone in the Internet cafe would logon as an Admin for you so that you could load the drivers and carry out the firmware reload?
Have you not got access to another PC?

Fully charged the ipod works for 2 mins, gives the battery warning and then shuts down. I took it to an apple store, they said battery is fine, restored ipod to original settings and it still wont work! Help!

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. This time be more persistent.

I suppose the app has problems with your soft and hardware. Or maybe its a known bug of that app.
Try Uninstalling->Rebooting->Installing->Rebooting.

I have a customer on an iPod touch Gen. 3 / iOS 4.x with an issue running my own app iRuleThem. He wrote me that my App won't open or start. The screen turns black when he taps the icon and then remains black. According to this out-dated thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/8804168#8804168 there are/were others out there with the same bug on different universal third party apps. Comment: "They should work on the iPod Touch because they don't require an iPhone environment."
But the thread wasn't leading to any satisfying solution at all.
Have you self experienced such issues on other apps?
Was an update of the iPod Touch to iOS 5.0.1 of any help?

I could fix the issue. But I have to buy an iPod Touch to see behind the cause. Therefore I decide to keep other developers up-to-date to save their money :). But currently I'm falling in love with this device - G.4 rocks!
This information is very useful for iOS developers who wan't to support all iDevices. The way to go is building an universal app.
In the 'App.plist' configuration file you define the starting point with the 'Main nib file base name' Key. It leads to the UI's first window for all given platforms. There are 3 keys I have now in use to support iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch G.4 are nearly the same in hardware (resolution, processor, memory, ...) but they use different keys. Something I haven't expected properly :(.
- 'Main nib file base name (iPhone)'
..... is only meant for iPhone and doesn't execute on iPod Touch !
- 'Main nib file base name (iPad)'
..... is iPad only with other resolution
- 'Main nib file base name' - without any parentheses nothing like (iPod)
..... is used by iPod Touch or iPhone (not tested with iPhone --> I use this key only for the iPod Touch)
That's because the Touch was released after the iPhone. It's absolutely fine to could define another interface. When this key ('Main nib file base name' - without anything) in the configuration file is missing it won't execute the (iPhone) UI. That's was unpredictable for me so I was a little stressed during the last few days. It's now fine and and my update will reach soon the stores..

It sounds like the app is crashing for whatever reason. Start with simple, easy things.
Quit iBooks and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If those things do not help - you may want to consider deleting the iBooks app and reinstall it. Make sue that all of your books and pdf files have been backed up and synced with iTunes before you delete the app.

As a worst case scenario you may need to backup essential data, then reset device to "Out of box" state by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by yourself) which will revert to version of OVI Maps pre-installed in device firmware and start upgrading again.

Mavericks is free but a jump from 10.6 to 10.9 might break a lot of other software (particularly if running any PPC-only generation software) which could be costly to replace. Yes, it will have to be done someday but if the OP's computer holds out a few more years then the OP will have saved buying all the Mavericks generation software that will be broken when OS 12.2 comes out and can make the jump directly.
So says somebody who still runs a G4 with iTunes 7.5 and is not looking forward to the day it dies and has to buy the "newest and best".

When I start up my iPod everything looks fine, you can open App.Store, email, music, etyc. But when I try to open a game or tool that i downloaded, he opens it, and shuts it down after 3 seconds...
Does somebody know how to solve this?
I already reseted my settings but it isn't solved so far.

Currently the most fault-proof way to fix this issue
At this moment, the easiest way to fix this "Application" fault is to install a new application from the App-store (Either with I-tunes or the App Store via the iPod Touch/iPhone. This will quickly make all applications start to work again.
The method of "Deleting Applications" does not work, please don't go and think you need to delete an application with your high scores or saved data just because it's not responding. Things such as Tap Tap Revenge's downloaded songs can be aggravating to re download for some.
As said, this is not a solution to the issue and we're all hoping Apple's got a bug-fix for it in the next update. Due to the widespread availability of Un-secure networks this can be easy for some , but a hassle for others.
I have tested this "quick-fix" 11+ times and it's worked each time. Hope this helps out with your dilemma.
