Application profiler

Hi,
My webdynpro application is integrated into portal via iview. I want to run "Application Profiler" (nwa -> Analysis -> performance) to analyse the amount of time needed to invoke methods in the web dynpro. Unfortunately, after i start profiling (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/5e/6549420cc74454e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm), it is empty (after refresh) under the method name after i access the application.
Did i miss any configuration?
In addition, seems like i cant "stop profiling" it.

Creating a new application profile

Hi Hyperion Gurus,
Need your advice on an issue we are facing now:
In our current application (HFM 11.1.2.2. EPMA), we have created our application profile with only English as the language. We have 3 applications residing on our current profile.
We now have a requirement as to include Japanese as a language. I am aware that I can not make changes to the alias dimension in the existing application. This means that we will have to create a new application profile.
My question is: What will happen to the existing shared library that we use for our current applications? When I create a new application will it impact the old ones?
Any thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated!

Hi Thanos,
so I did create a new application profile and included the languages I needed. And when I created the application, the Alias dimension is blank.
Here are the steps that I followed:
1. Create a new application profile from the desktop client.
2. Opened work space and created New application from Administer > Consolidation Administration.
3. Registered the application to Shared Services.
4. Transformed the classic app to EPMA in order to use the Shared library
Not sure what I am missing. I have attached a screenshot of the dimension library from my new application.

Debug servlet failed after Enable Enterprise Application Profiler

1. run IDE
2. Enable Enterprise Application Profiler of AS in Runtime tab
3. restart the AS server in debug model
4. create web module includes jsp & servlet
5. new a breakpoint in servlet codes
6. debug it by click Debug-> Star Session-> Run in Debugger
result:
1. debug failed
2. if you Disable Enterprise Application Profiler and restart the AS, debug successfully

Are you checking with latest updates. IF not, please connect to update center and update the IDE. The update has fixes for Profiler.

Suitability of RAC for an application profile

Hi, were looking to possibly move to RAC as a solution for outgrowing our current servers capacity.
However, were unsure if the application profile is suited for RAC or not, specifically with regard to how our app currently uses the buffer cache in terms block contention, etc, etc.
Christo Kutrovsky has posted an excellent article here.
Anyone else got any tips or past experience of things we should be looking for to see if our app might be suitable before we undertake a proof of concept ?

We discussed it with Christo quite often. Cache Fusion contention is one thing. Christo's approach is great to have some number to work with but there is more than that.
I generally recommend to try and separate your application on the components by traffic type and, better yet, by subsets of data components are working with. Sometime it's natural separation (like invoicing vs order processing) and sometimes it's artificial like hashing by IP address and etc. Thought, it might not be out of the box.
What application are you using? Home grown?
Also, don't forget about connection management - whether application will support TAF an/or FCF fully. Also, if you balance same workload across the nodes, what about run time load balancing?
Before going RAC, have you surely determined what's your current bottleneck and how RAC can help you?

How can we add the years, in Application Profile.

I have a doubt regarding the Application Profile in HFM, Here My question is, How can we add the years to application profile, After once created and attached with one application and the application is going on for past 2 years, now the requirement is add the years to application profile HFM.
1. Is there any rule required for this?, If there is a rule, please explain the rule.

WCM Application Profile modification or deletion.

Dear All,
I have configured Work Clearance Management using 'Enhanced Model' and created various WCM Objects via WCM relevant orders.
Initially in customizing WCM Application Profile I have set Time-Frame Check Criteria to '1 Check Operational Condition'. But now I am trying to change it to '2 No Check', it returns the following error and reverts to previous setting.
The profile in maintenance planning plant XX01 was adapted.
Message no. I4117
Please can anyone tell how to change this setting or delete the Application Profile so that I can create the new profile with the same name as previous.

Thanks for your effective reply and I agree with your suggestion. However, there are some Operational WCDs which are displayed in WCL4 transaction but are not accessible through WCT7 transaction and it return following error message.
Information: No entry/entries in the table (WCCGT)
Error when executing function module (WCFC_ANLZUX_GET)

How we find existing application profile for particular application? Can we modify the existing profile or modification of profile will impact the application?

Unfortunately, there isn't an automatic way to extract one from your existing application.
You should have a copy of the .PER file from when the application was first created.
If you do not, you would manually have to create one.

I note before that HFM does not support Days, although I see that on creating application profile (calendar) we can build as much members as we want so what is the problem to create days under each month and have day as period.

The period dimension defined in the application profile determines the table structure in the database. Specifically, it determines the number of columns in the data and calc status tables, and in turn, the record size.
Each period in the data tables is actually made up of two fields: the data field, and the "input transtype" which tells HFM what kind of data is in the data field (input, calculated, derived, cleared). Each record has a header indicating the intersection: Entity, Value, Account, ICP, Custom1, Custom2, Custom3, Custom4, as well as the pairs of columns I mentioned * the number of base periods in the profile (plus a time stamp for the record).
A normal 12 period record then has a data table consisting of about nine header fields, plus two * the base number of periods = 33 fields wide. A weekly application would be nine header fields, plus two * 53 periods = 115 fields wide.
A daily profile would be nine header fields, plus two * 366 periods = 741 fields wide.
Finally, a quarterly profile would be only nine header fields, plus two * 4 periods = 17 fields wide.
I believe one of the supported RDBMS cannot handle tables that have 741 columns, but I don't recall which.
In terms of the memory footprint for each record, the data value for a 12 period record is about 120 bytes. Following the above calculations:
- Monthly data records consume 120 bytes each
- Weekly data records consume 530 bytes each
- Daily data records consume 3,660 bytes each
- Quarterly data records consume 40 bytes each
Please note that all scenarios in a given application use the same table structure, even if the scenario is defined to use a monthly or quarterly frequency. In these cases, the database structure is the same, but HFM uses only a portion of the fields. Therefore, the record size is not determined by the frequency set in the scenario's properties, but by the lowest level in the application profile. If your application has 10 scenarios, with one of them being weekly (53 base periods) and all the others using monthly (12 base periods), the records in every scenario are still 530 bytes each.
Correspondingly, the calc status records are increased in size, and impact the number of records that reside in the calc status cache, but that's another topic.
Finally, the size of each record directly impacts performance, both in the database tier (larger record sizes consume larger caches on the database tier), and in the HFM application tier (the data cache must be re-sized according to the application profile). For 32 bit HFM the target is 1 million 12-period records, or 266,000 53-period records, or 32,000 daily records. For 64 bit, we can greatly increase the cache size but still must tune the database tier as well, to increase its cache size.
In the end, it may be possible to create a daily application, with days in the period dimension, but considering the database requirements and memory footprint, I strongly recommend considering a design that accomodates days in the custom dimension.

I am looking into how to profile my midp application I have been developing.
I currently develop with netbeans 5.5
to begin with I am only interested on how to profile in the emulator.
is this possible with the netbeans profiler plug in?
the help states
"NetBeans Profiler supports profiling web and enterprise applications.",
if can anyone suggest any tools I can use?

WTK 2.5 emulator includes a profiler (not sure whether it's a good one...) . It can be enabled through:
<Emulator_DIR>/bin/ktoolbar
Preferences->Monitor->enable Profiling
Or the same window can be opened directly from NetBeans:
Tools->Java Platform Manager -> WTK2.5 -> Tools & Extentions -> Open Preferences

Runtime application profile with JDev

Hi,
I want to examine the runtime behavior of a quite large web application developed with JDev10g using ADF with JSF and Toplink over an Oracle DB. I am thinking about using JProfiler but would like to know if Oracle has any recommended way (software, plugins, etc.) to go about it.

Ok, i got it to work now with two scripts:
One that activates when user login:
cmd /c regedit /C /S %appdata%\Outlook_Profile.reg
cmd /c regedit /C /S %appdata%\Office_Setup.reg
And one that activates when the user logs off:
cmd /c regedit /E %Appdata%\Outlook_data\Outlook_Profile.reg“HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\%username%”
cmd /c regedit /E %Appdata%\Outlook_data\Office_Setup.reg“HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office”
This exports and imports the regfiles of the outlook settings. So that the users settings follows with the user, regardless of what computer they log in to.

I know how to profil a enterprise application with the Studio but how do I profil a simple application, which starts with a main method?

While Java Studio Enterprise 7 does not have this type of profiler, one is available for free for the NetBeans 4.x IDE. It's called JFluid and is available here:

Profiling a remote java application

First of all i want to say the technologies i use:Eclipse , Java ,
I made a debug on a remote java application, which runs on a hp ux server.For this i went to debug dialog -> Remote Java application and i introduced:
- at Hostname:172.26 ......( IP address of the server where the application runs) and at he port number 8000. Works perfect.I started also the agent controller
with the default configuration(port 10006).
Then i wanted to make profiling on this application. I installed what i had: EMF 2.3.0 and agent Controller from the address http://www.eclipse.org/tptp/home/downloads/?ver=4.4.0.
If i run the SampleClient as in the agent controller documentation ,the example work(I received the expected message).
In Eclipse right click onthe application ->profile as ->open profile dialog .Here i have to fill in :
- "host name or IP address" (here i think it should be IP of the server:172.26.... where the application runs)
- "agent controller port" :the default port which is 10006. Then i enter profile.
But appears an unexpected error:

I am using HPjmeter, but i have problems.
The dinamic analyze works well.The command option was: java -agentlib:jmeter name
But the static analyze gets errors.The command option was: java -agentlib:hprof name.The error:
hprof error:can't create temporary file java.hprof.txt.TMP[../../../src/share/demo/jvmti/hprog/hprof_init.c:775]
What ca be the problem?
