Application Server 10 g Load Handling statistics

Hi,
We are in planning stage, to deploy multiple applications used by our organization onto Oracle 10 g Application Server am scratching my head on designing appropriate infrastructure for these applications. Can any one please guide me to a document , where I can see some input on Load Handling capabilities of this Oracle 10 g Application Server ? ( I would like to know , for example we need 2 application servers in a cluster for handling 100000 users , kid of ) statistics.
Thanks in advance.
Giri.

Hi,
I too am facing the same issue.
Please do lemme know if you have found anything abt this.
Thanks in advance.

  • How to send communication message from application server to load balancer

    Hi,
Environment: 8 application servers are clustered behind a load balancer. Java/J2EE based client-server application
When any one of the servers is supposed to go down, I want to send a message from that server, programmatically, to load balancer something which signifies "server is down or going down, do not forward any client connections to me". This is to avoid any CLOSE_WAITs.
How do I achieve this? How can I send message programmatically from app server to load balancer? From very basic knowledge, SNMP can be used for this. But do not know how to start of. Any other means is also OK. Need details.
    Thanks
    Sunil

At the same time we stop accepting any new connections [ServerSocket.accept() will be escaped during server shutdown].Just close the ServerSocket.
Both these are working fine. But during the 25 seconds, still the client connections gets queued up trying to find that serverNot if you close the ServerSocket.
reason being the load balancer is still forwarding requests to this server whose shutdown has started but not completed. So CLOSE_WAITS happen. Not if you close the ServerSocket. Not that the CLOSE_WAITS are the actual problem, as they will all disappear when the server exits. It's more that the clients shouldn't have been able to create the connection in the first place. Which wouldn't have happened if you had closed the ServerSocket.
If we tell load balancer not to send any more client socket connections, then we completely avoid getting CLOSE_WAITS.If you close the ServerSocket ditto.

  • Infopackage-Load Many Files from Application Server and later Archive/Move

    Hi All..
I have a doubt,   I have a requirement of take many files to load into BI 7.0..  I used the infopackage before with option:
Load Binary File From Application server
I load information successfully... only with one file ...but If I can load many files (with different names) like the next list.. I think it's not a good idea modify the file name (path) on infopackage each time).. :
*All of this files will be on one server that itu2019s map into AL11.. Like
    Infopfw
    BW_LOAD_20090120.txt
    BW_LOAD_20090125.txt
    BW_LOAD_OTHER_1.txt
    u2026.
    Etc..
This directory it's not in BW server.. It's other server..but I can load form this location (one file by one)
Could you help me with this questions:
    -     How can I Use an infopackage with routine that take all the files..one by oneu2026 in order of creation dateu2026and load into Target? Is it possible?.. I have some knowledge of ABAP.. but I don´t know exactly how I can say to system this logicu2026
    -     In addition is it possible move this files to other locationu2026 like into Infopfwarchive u2026 just to have an history of files loaded.
I saw that in infopackage you have an option to create a routine.. in ABAP codeu2026 Iu2019m a little bit confused because I donu2019t  know how I can specify all the path..
    I try with:
    Infopfw
    InfopfwFile.csv
    Infopfw
This is the abap code that automatically you see and you need to modifyu2026
Create a routine for file name
This routine will be called by the adapter,
    when the infopackage is executed.
              p_filename =
              p_subrc = 0.
Thank you for your ideas or recommendations.
    Al

Hi Reddy, thank you for your answer
I have some doubuts.. when you explain me the option:
All the above files are appending dates at the end of the file....
You can load the files through infopackage by using Routines and pick the files based on date at the end of the file..***
I need to ask you if you think that when you know the date of the file and the infopackage pick each file... thi can work for many files??... or how it's possible control this process?
About this option, I want to ask you If when you menction Unix code... where it's programed this code?.. in the routine of BW Infopackage??
    ****Or
Create two folders in your BW in Application server level, in AL11 (ask Basis team)
I call it is F1 and F2 folders.
First dump the files into F1 I assume that the file name in F1 is "BW_LOAD_20090120.txt", using Unix code you rename the file and then keep in the same foleder F1 or move to F2.
Then create InfoPackage and fix the file name (i.e. you renamed), so you don't need to change everyday your file name at infopackage level.Because in AL11 everyday the file are overwrite.
To I get BW_LOAD_20090120.txt file in F1, then I renamed to BW_LOAD.txt and loaded into BW, then tomorrow I get BW_LOAD_20090125.txt in F1, then I renamed to BW_LOAD.txt....
so in this way it will work. You need to schedule the Ubix script in AL11.
This is the way how to handle the application server...I'm using the same logic.
    Thank you soo much.

  • Error in data load from application server

    Well, this problem again!
In datasource for dataload by flatfile, tab Extraction i selected Load Text-Type File From Application Server.
    In tab Proposal:
Converter: Separated with Separator (for Example, CSV).
    No. of Data Records: 9198
    Data load sucefull.
    I add 1 record:
Converter: Separated with Separator (for Example, CSV).
    No. of Data Records: 9199
So appear a  message error "Cannot convert character sets for one or more characters".
I look in line 9199 in file and not have any special character. I use AL11 and debug to see this line.
When i load file from local workstation, this error not occur.
    What's happen?

    Hi Rodrigo,
What type of logical file path have yopu created in the application server for loading this file.
Is it a UNIX file path or an ASCII file path.
Did you check how the file looks in the application server AL11?

  • Using NLB over Application Server in SharePoint 2010?

I have two application server that I need to load balance using Microsoft NLB.
    My queries:
    1) Just load balancing the Application Server will load balance the SharePoint service as well?
    2) How would service application on application server would response to the request that is coming via VIP,  what I want ask is where in IIS the physical ips be configured?
    3) Once I configure the NLB and have VIP pointing to two physical IPs, how would the Web Server knows that he has to send the request over the VIP(virtual ip) . Where is this configuration done?

In the SharePoint world an 'application server' is a server that does not handle user traffic directly. It doesn't host the websites that users access but instead handles the behind the scenes processing such as searches, PowerPivot etc.
For those servers you do not need to use load balancing, SharePoint handles load balancing internally for those services.
If you want to load balance the web front ends (WFEs) which serve websites to users then this blog covers it quite comprehensively:

  • XML data into Oracle Tables. XML file on Application Server.Oracle Apps R12

    Hi All,
    My Database version : 11.2.0.2.0
I have an XML file which needs to be loaded into the Database Tables. How ever i do not want to use the XMLTYPE as given below
    insert into test1 (
SELECT PrcDate, PmtType, PmtStatus, PmtTypeCount, PmtTypeAmt
    FROM XMLTABLE(
    '/WFPaymentAck/RejectedDom1ACH'
    PASSING XMLTYPE( BFILENAME('ECX_UTL_LOG_DIR_OBJ','wf_test_xml.XML'), NLS_CHARSET_ID('UTF8') )
    COLUMNS
    PrcDate VARCHAR2(2000) PATH '@PrcDate' ,
    PmtType VARCHAR2(2000) PATH '@PmtType' ,
    PmtStatus VARCHAR2(100) PATH '@PmtStatus' ,
    PmtTypeCount VARCHAR2(100) PATH 'PmtTypeCount' ,
    PmtTypeAmt VARCHAR2(100) PATH 'PmtTypeAmt'
Because this way the XML file needs to reside on the DB server.
I am looking into other option of loading the XML file into a CLOB column of a table and reading it from that column.
I did a couple of tests and feel that this way also the XML file has to reside on the Database Server itself. I am not sure if this is correct or if there is any problem with our TEST instance.
++Can anyone let me know if i need to have the XML file on the DB server instead of the Application server to load into a CLOB column of table ??++
    ++Or++
++Is there any other workaround for me to load XML into Oracle Tables, while having the XML file on Application Server.++
Your immediate help is appreciated. I need to get past this ASAP.
    Thanks in Advance.
    VJ

    1) Are you asking me to create a folder on Database directory which points to a folder on the Apps server ?I suggest creating an Oracle directory object (a database object) pointing to a real location (folder) on Application server.
we DONOT want a hand shake between the DB Server and the APPS server.I don't see where the problem is.
I'm not familiar with Apps R12 but there's no doubt the two servers are already communicating, at least App server should be able to access the DB for the whole thing to run.
    As I said :
One way or another, the data has to make its way to the database, there's no workaround to that. How do you imagine the data will end up in a database table if it doesn't come to the DB server?
There's no magical method out there, both servers have to communicate at some point.
About client-server approaches (client being here the App server), you can read about accessing the XML DB repository in the XML DB Developer's Guide : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e23094/toc.htm
Other option : SQL*Loader can load a CLOB, or an XMLType column too

  • Log4j, struts, application server (e.g. weblogic)

    Dear J2EE Gurus,
I am a little confused on how to enable log4j when using Struts and an application server.
Should I define an independent sevlet class (and start it when starting application server) to load log4j.property or log4j.xml?
Should I just put log4j.property or log4j.xml in "WEB_INF/classes" on my application server?
    Should I do both?
    I would appreciate some clarifications.
    Regards,
    Pengyou

You could have a startup class for log4j. That's the
way I've been doing mostly (with WebLogic). This is the solution that I like. But there is a small detail.
I found before the "log4j startup class"(strus plug-in) was launched, something already tried to get a log4j logger. This explains that I have to put "log4j.property" on "WEB-INF/classes" which I don't like. If I did it, I would not use the "log4j startup class". But if I did not do it, I would have
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (org.apache.struts.util.PropertyMessageResources).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
before the "log4j startup class" launched.
    What is a pity.

  • Field Values being changed in the flat file on Application Server

    Hi All,
I am loading a flat file(.CSV) from Application server. The file has some characteristic fields, for ex: CNUM of type Char, length 20. But it has got the value which is of 10 char length, say XYZ1234XAB. When I load the same fiel from client workstation, the load was successful but when I load it from Application server, the load has failed and the error is Invalid/Hex. characteristics for this record and many such records.
When I checked the file on the application server the value 'XYZ1234XAB' is being displayed as 'XYZ1234XAB   #' and it is also being loaded with '#'. This is the cause of the error.
Why is the value being changed on the application server? What can I do to overcome this?
    Thanks,
    RPK.

    Hi Ganesh,
I have already loaded data to my ODS and when activating it is giving error "Value 'XYZ123XABC   #' (hex. '123456....') of characteristic CNUM contains invalid chara".
I also have some lower case char in some of the records for the same field. The file is huge and cannot change the file, infact I have many such files. Is there any other way to overcome this?

  • Need to upgrade Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.3

    Dear All,
I am having bit doubts on choosing the Application server down load file from the Oracle site. Currently we are using Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2 Forms and Report service. I need to up grade the Forms and Report service to 10.1.3 version of the Application Server 10g .
If I select the Application Server 10g Release 3 from the site its directing me to the big selection list. Actually i bit confused which one i need to choose. I need to upgrade only the Forms and Report service Application Server 10g .Iam sure somebody can help me to solve this confusion. I appreciated ans thanks your attention in my query.
    regards
    Mathew

    Hi Mathew,
If I am not mistaken, there is no Forms and Reports version 10.1.3. There is an Application Server version 10.1.3.x but this is a J2EE only release. Forms and Reports have not been bundled in this version.
Could it be that you are mistaken with version 10.1.2.3 which is a patch set on top of Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 ? If this is the case, you can apply the patch set as per directions in the readme from the patch set. The patch set is available from [My Oracle Support|http://updates.oracle.com/download/5983622.html].

    How to solve this error??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi BI consultant:
Could you please provide more details?
    For example:
1.Is your P application server a UNIX flavor? (Solaris, AIX, UX, Linux)
       If yes..
             2. Are you able to see the contents of the file correctly with a "cat" or "vi" command? (at operating system level).
                   If no...
                         3. Did you upload the csv flat file to the server via FTP?
                                If yes...
                                     4. Did you use the "binary" or the "ascii" parameter on the FTP command used to upload the file?
Probably you need to upload the CSV file again to your application server and make sure you can se the file contents ("cat" or "vi" command) before trying to execute the InfoPackage.
