Application Server 9.0.4.2 on Redhat

Hi
This is my first post, but it probably won;t be my last. I am having trouble finding some info, and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction.
We are using old versions of As and RedHat and would like to take our AS 9.0.4.1 to 9.0.4.2 and need to confirm this is ok on our old version of RedHat AS.2.1.
Can anyone help me find the info to confirm this please?
Many thanks
Geoff

According to Metalink certification matrix, 9.0.4 AS is certified for RedHat 2.1.
The following is from 10.1.2.0.2 AS runInstaller pre-requisites checking :
Checking operating system version: must be redhat-2.1, redhat-3, redhat-4, SuSE-8, SuSE-9 or UnitedLinux-1.0
So, you shouldn't have problems with 9.0.4.2.

  • Sun Application Server 9 installation failed in Linux RedHat

I used sjsas_pe-9_0-linux-ml.bin for the installation.
First of all, it was going very-very slow. Then I noticed that it got stuck on unpacking sun-as-jsr88-dm.jar. Then it said that application got failed. In the log there was a "CannotExecute" exception while trying to use asadmin.
I checked sun-as-jsr88-dm.jar, I believe that it was never unpacked, because the only thing inside was the manifest.
I tried it few times, the same thing.
    What is the problem?

Never mind - fixed it. I deleted the path variable before reinstalling and it installed successfully.

  • Application Server Control Panel page will not load

I am new to Oracle Application Server and need some assistance to determine why the Application Server Control Page will not load after entering the username/password for ias_admin. I have just installed Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2) on Redhat Linux.
The Listener and the Repository Database are up. I have successfully started the processes for the OracleAS Infrastructure instance with:
    $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
I have successfully started the OracleAS Console with:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start iasconsole
I ran "emctl status iasconsole" and received:
    http://localhost.localdomain:1810/emd/console/aboutApplication
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control is running
Logs are generated in Directory ...../sysman/log
I ran "opmnctl status" and received:

I can bring up the "Welcome to Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)" web page successfully with "http//<host>:7777".
My problem arises after I click on the link for " log on to Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control". I enter the username/pwd for ias_admin and then progress bar on the status bar of the browser goes so far and stops. The Application Server Page will not render.
Can someone point me into the direction of what to check, whether its an enviromental setting for linux or a configuration issue with the Application Server?
note: that the status bar for the browser shows "shortcut to localhost.local domain" when highlighting the link " log on to Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control". This is different than <host> specified in the URL to render the welcome page. I would't think this to be an issue because the login screen came up and it also appears in the results of the emctl status iasconsole and opmnctl status commands.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Emilio, note implies emagent core dumps. If that is the case emctl would (hopefully) not return status "ok".
Here is my output with sysman oc4j running but emagent gone (AS 9.0.4):
    $ emctl status iasconsole
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control 9.0.4.1.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2004 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    EM Daemon is not running.
Also, if you login to AS Control does it redirect browser to http://localhost.localdomain/... ?

    NIC : 2x 1Gb/s LAN.
We have problem with standart Sun Application Server Configuration on Linux.
Even AdminGui application doesn't work properly.
    Some times, AdminGui application returns
Unabled to handle pre-compiled JSP '/jsp/LogDetail.jsp'. Expected pre-compiled classname: 'org.apache.jsp.jsp.LogDetail_jsp'.
Some time on browser we have "The page can not be displayed" exception and so on.
We deployed our JSF web application on this server and have same problems with our web application. In my opinion it looks like Linux or Sun Application Server misconfiguration, but I don' t know Idea where to look.
    Help me please.

As you already noticed, RH Linux 8.0 and 9.0 are not on the list of officially supported platforms for Application Server 8.1, but you should still be able to install and run on those Linux versions without major issues.
Follow generic Linux installation instructions, if you do run into some problems take a look at this article which describes some common workarounds, specifically section titled "Problem: My Linux distribution is not on the list of officially supported platforms for J2EE 1.4 SDK":

Strictly speaking you do not need Application Server or OHS for running Apex, you have an option in ApexListener. If it is a small installation then stick to EPG that comes built-in.
Try downloading the Oracle HTTP Server from here . You will need to check the commercial aspects yourself as OHS is not a free software for Production environment, AFAIK.

Said that OAS 10.1.2.0.2 is desupported, you have to apply patch 10.1.2.3 to be fully certified on OEL/RHEL 5.

  • Performance questions in Oracle Forms/Reports of Application Server 10g

    Hello.
I have a dual Xeon 2.6 computer with 3 GB of memory and 6 GB of cache, running RedHat EL 3 with Oracle AS 10g (9.0.4.0.0).
Application Server is used to run some applications created with forms, and it generates several reports, but the forms are also used as a front end to another Oracle Database (Oracle 7.0, runing in Sun Solaris 5.6).
I've notested (and also my users) the application is getting very slow (is running in a dual Xeon, with 2 Gbit nics, in a 3 Gb backbone).
The speed (or lack of it) is most noted when the forms are generating the reports (it used to be fast - 2 seconds) and now it can take up to 5 minutes.
The AS 10g, when generating the reports, almost all of the querys go to the other server (in Solaris) and the results return to the server, and then the report is generated. The network has no problems (at least, that i know of), and the network performance is not an issue - both the servers are connected to a Gbit switch.
Can someone may have an ideia of it can be?
even in the clients, when running the forms application, the transition of the several menus is slow, and it used to be more fast.
the 10g is using Java Jinitiator 1.3.18. Can it be from that ? i'm not certain, but i could say this things start happen when we upgraded the jinitiator from 1.3.13 to 1.3.18...
My users are really getting on my nervers and i cant do nothing, because they have reason...
any help would be appreciated !
    Cheers
    Bruno Santos

Bruno, did you solve the performance problem? I'm experiencing the same lack of speed.

  • Version of Oracle application server

    Hi,
How to find the version of Oracle application server installed on RedHat Linux AS machine and Sunsolaris10 machine?
    Regards,
    Mathew

    Matthew,
If you have the application server installed, then you can query from the sys schema on the machine where you have your metadata repository installed (infra-home) to see the versions as follows:
    select *
    from app_registry;
for checking portal version, you can alternatively go to Builder page/ 'Administer' tab/ 'Portal' option/ 'Services' portlet/'Global Settings' - link. The resulting page will be taking you in the Main tab. Here look at the very bottom and you will see something like this.
    Version Information
Oracle Portal Version: 10.1.4.0.0 (Build: 594)
    hope that helps.

    hi,
First check the log files why http is not starting up thro opmnctl cmd.
In order to change the port..
Take the back up of Original httpd.conf file and opmn.xml
    and then in $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf file
you will get parameter "port" and "listen"..so enter the desired port no

  • Installing Application Server 10g 2 on Unbreakable linux

    Hello all,
I wish to install Application Server 10g 2 on Oracle Unbreakable Linux EL5. Could someone please let me know if there are installation instructions for the App Server on EL5?
Also, when I go to [http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html] to download release 2 for Linux x86, the tooltip has the file named as "as_linux_x86_portal_wireless_101202_disk1.cpio". Does anyone know if this is actually the App Server???
Last, but not least, I downloaded disk 1(I'm assuming it's the correct software) and tried to "unzip" it in /home/oracle to run the Universal Installer and Oracle Unbreakable Linux doesn't recognize the file extension .cpio. So my last question then would be is Oracle Unbreakable Linux even a suitable version of Linux to install the App Server on? Because it seems strange that the software Oracle has on its website can't even be opened on their own flavor of Linux.
Any help answering my questions will be appreciated.
    -Thank You,
    David Wrbelis

    Hi,
I did just a while ago.
If you got a joice, use Unbreakable Linux 4 (RHEL4), 10g2 on Unbreakable Linux version 5 is not officially supported by Oracle!
At least my Server was complaining about the system. After extracting the .cpio you can either use
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
or go to redhat-release file (I'm not sure in the moment, I believe its /etc/redhat-release) and set it to version 4 instead of 5 until installation is done.
You will get an error during installation, when it appears rename libXtst.so.6.0.0 to libXtst.so.6.0 and press retry, the installation will finish successfully.
You might get an error that opmn could not start. Start it manually, the error won't appear, you can ignore it (press continue).
Your config wizards should ALL be successful!
About the file you downloaded, I was using a different one, since I only needed Forms and Reports service, you might want to have the full Server, so there are more than one correct downloads for 10g2. You need to look carefully what features you need or load full version (which would be several cds I believe).

  • Application Server Clustering for File hosting or something else?

    Hi,
I asked this question in JDeveloper forum, but i think this is better place for asking this question.
Anyway, i am doing video streaming project.. As you guess, members will be able to upload their videos and share them with people.
However, i am confused about putting the uploaded video files. Video files are large files so 1 server will never be enough for that and multiple servers have to be clustered.
    And..
    1) Keeping files in the server where application server runs on is a good or bad idea?
    2) I heard about DFS (Distributed file system) for Windows and GFS (Global file system) for Redhat Linux. Those are the things that i need?
    3) If 1st server's disk space is full, how will files be uploaded to 2nd or 3th server automatically?
I don't know anything about this, can anyone please explain what do i need for doing this?
    Thanks..

    Hi Oak,
I am no content management guy but let me try to answer some of the questions.
    1) Keeping files in the server where application server runs on is a good or bad idea?
Its neither good or bad. It totally depends on your hardware specification and your application size base. I have seen in big prod apps, they run multiple servers horzontal and vertical. So if your server is capable you can have in the same place
2>I heard about DFS (Distributed file system) for Windows and GFS (Global file system) for Redhat Linux. Those are the things that i need?
You definitely need some content management system so that the system will do stuff for you like cluster management
    3) If 1st server's disk space is full, how will files be uploaded to 2nd or 3th server automatically?
This is not a easy solution. You have to do some calculation, like what is existing space what is the space usage daily/weekly. What should be the confortable free space on the file system and based upon that you have to set up appropriate alerts on pager, cell etc like a typical production support
    Thanks
    Vishnu
