Application Server CPU at 100%

We are running Oracle Forms and Reports 9.0.4 using OC4J on a Solaris 9 server. Environment responds quickly, except when an end user requests the generation of a large PDF report (with several hundred to over a thousand pages). Although query results are returned quickly by the database server, CPU on application server tops out at 100% for an hour or more while these large reports are being generated. During this hour or more, no other reports can be generated by other end users. Can the application server be configured to allow CPU and other resources to be shared during generation of large PDF reports? If so, how?

  • Sun Java Application Server 9.0 and 9.1 - High CPU PROCENTAGE 100%

    Hi,
I have problem with sun java application Server running after few days during watching a logs from web admin suddenly the application server takes 100% cpu and keeps this procentage - I have to manually close the server process.
The server running on Windows Server 2003.
Anyone have any idea to sovle the problem?

    Hi Kedar,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I finally figured it out.
The custom MBeans seem to work well for the most part though I don't know for sure if I'm using them in the way they were really intended.
Basically, I want to run 'services' on my application server for the lifetime of the server. I want these 'services' to maintain things like runtime caching of information over time that is not persisted in a DB but needs to be kept around in active memory to be used at a later time, but only while the application server is up and running.
Another thing I would like to do is have them receive JMS notifications directly, but I seem to be having trouble when subscribing as a consumer within my custom MBean. The topic thread on that is here:

  • Timer Job job-application-server-admin-service spiking CPU after every minute

    Hi all,
I have an issue in my SP2010 Farm that all the servers spiking CPU to 100% after a minute or so. I have drilled down and found that the following timer jon is the culprit.
Timer Job job-application-server-admin-service. If I change the service running to 2 minutes (default is 1 Min) then the spikes comes after every 2 minutes.
Please suggest what I can do about this?

Was it working fine previously. If yes, what changes happened which caused this issue
    1. Check the ULS + Eventviewer logs at the time when this issue happens.
    2. Collect perflog files and execute PAL on that this will give you the complete analysis of processes and performance at that time.
    Check below:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/07207109-0450-47cf-b6ee-467a58eaa887/trust-relationship-between-the-primary-domain-and-trusted-domain-failed?forum=sharepointgenerallegacy
    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:nJYnqC6ug8cJ:sharepointfraggel.blogspot.com/+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=in
    Fix the problem
Manually clear the file system cache on the local servers (fe's) on which the timer service is running (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939308)
Stop the SharePoint Timer Service in Administrative Tool/Services.
Go to the cache folder. For Windows Server 2008: Drive:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config
Find the folder that contains the file Cache.ini
Delete all the XML configuration files in the folder so that you can verify that the folder is replaced by new XML files when the cache is rebuilt.
Open the Cache.ini file, delete all content in the file and type 1, save and exit.
    Start the SharePoint Timer service

  • Evenlog viewing causes CPU usage 100% on Windows server 2008 SP2

We have Windows server 2008 SP2 with strange behaviour. When I scroll down events in eventlog viewer CPU usage hits 100% and eventlog viewer freeze. CPU usage is split between 2 processes SVCHOST.EXE (lmhosts, eventlog and Dhcp services) and MMC.EXE.
1)I tried to replace eventlog files with new ones. That didn’t helped
2)After server clean boot problem still exist.
3)When CPU hits 100% usage process explorer shows that from SVCHOST.EXE process CPU is used by service EventLog.
Any ideas how to fix this?

    Hi Santosh
    I re-installed VMware
tools and also configured VMXNET 3 - nothing changed :(
    Sorry to hear that.
Windows event log service has couple of dependencies i.e. task scheduler and windows event collector service. Can try restrating those services ?
In addition to above, try following steps
Change NTFS permission of  %WINDIR%\System32\WinEvt\Logs directory, add Local Service and
Network Service, give them FULL permissions.
Stop and Start event viewer service by running following command
net stop eventlog && net start eventlog
Issues like this might occur if the disk (FC or iSCSI SAN or even NAS) has some inconsistencies , this is true in case of both physical and virtual machines
You might want to try running chkdisk as well on the server in question

If nothing helps, try inplace upgrade of the Operating system as an last option.

what are the solutions/options available for 100% uptime with Oracle DB and application server as one of the business area requires 100% uptime of the application system and DB.
Is there any cost effective options available to achieve the above stated requirement or else might to have to go for stand alone system?
    Thanks in advance for help.

  • Application Server Platform Edition 8.1 2005Q2 fails to start - CLI156

I have installed and re-installed PE8.1 on my laptop many times (with security off). I followed Quickstart and after 60 seconds end up with CLI156. I have upgraded from XP Home Edition to XP Professional. I have been going round and round for the last 4 days. I have searched for CLI156 and have tried many options. Any pointers (if not memory references) would be appreciated.

  • Server CPU Usages - Critical

We have a BC4J application developed using jdev 3.1/ front end is JSPs.
The application is deployed using Oracle iAS 8i.
The problem is that when in a jsp, a query is executed that has to return a large number of rows, then the cpu utilization of the database(oracle.exe) rises to 100 percent. The same query when run from sql, causes a memory consumption of only 20 percent.
What can be the possible reasons for this huge increase in memory consumption when the query is fired using jdev data web beans from a jsp.
    amit

    Howard,
because the CSS has a script language, you can basically do whatever you want.
You could have a script running on the server to get the server cpu and save it into a file.
Via the CSS script language, you could retrieve this value and decided to use or not the server.
There is also something called DFP - dynamic feedback protocol. If your server vendor support this protocol you can use it to report server status to the CSS.
    Regards,
    Gilles.

  • Report Times Out only on Dialog Application Server

    Hi -
We are on ECC 6.  We have a Central Instance and a Dialog Instance (both on AIX 5.3).  When the endusers run S_ALR_87009788 (program RFRRBIL1), which can not be run as a background job, on the Central Instance it runs to completion in about 10 minutes.  When they run the same report, with the same variant, on the Dialog Instance it times out in the SAPLGSAC program within the Include program LGSACF01.
I've checked and rechecked parameters on both servers and they match.  CPU, memory and swap match as well.
To add to this, the report runs in 2 minutes on our ECQ system.
What else should I look at?
    Thanks!
    Margaret

    > No, we do not have dedicated high-speed network connections between the application servers and the database server.
This explains why you can execute the program on the database server directly but not on the application server.
Most likely you have a 100 MBit connection, all other traffic is also going through that interface. So the application server must read all data from the database server, transfer it over the network to the application server and from there it has to be transmitted again to the client.
It's highly advised to not use the normal network interface for communication between app server and database but a dedicated network infrastructure to keep latencies low and to allow almost the same speed.

  • Sun Application Server -  Trouble starting default server

    Hi everyone.
I am new to J2EE and am currently trying to get the Sun Appliation Server to run, but am having difficulties.
I have installed version 1.4 of J2EE SDK.
    Running Windows XP SP2.
When I run the program Start Default Server, it hangs for ages on the message "Starting Domain1, please wait" and finally after about a minute or so gives me an error message stating:
"Timeout waiting for domain domain1 to go to starting state.
CLI156 Could not start the domain domain1."
I have been told that it is very common to get problems with the port you choose for the JMS to be the same as somehting else on your PC. I have experimented with different port numbers (all of which not in current use - as indiated by netstat -a in the cmd window).
If anyone knows anything else I could try that would be great and much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Phill

OK, here is the contents of log.txt from the imqbroker\log directory...
Tell me if you have a hard time decifering which date of this log corresponds to the date of the first log and I will clear both files and recreate it.

  • Eclipse/Sun Java Application Server

    Hi,
I'm running MyEclipse 5.5.1 on an XP machine and Java System Application Server on a Win 2003 server in an intranet. I want to deploy directly from MyEclipse, but the server won't start. Have tried Tomcat wich works fine, firewalls are disabled. The log file complains it can't find the path/file specified, although it DOES exist.
An example, this file does exist: C:\Sun\SDK\imq\lib\imqjmsra.rar
    Thanks,
    Mattias
    Here's the complete log file:

    Hi,
I'm running MyEclipse 5.5.1 on an XP machine and Java System Application Server on a Win 2003 server in an intranet.

  • Running concurrent Application Server in same processor

Has anyone done any benchmark testing with running multiple concurrent application server?
I need to run 70 Application Servers 10g on the same processors and I need to know if there are any limitations or any best practices?
Any suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
    I have the following requirements:
    Hardware:
    RAM
    64 GB
CPU and cores and CPU speed.
    C8 Core 1.2GHz UltraSPARC T2 processor
    HD capacity
    2x146GB SAS
    Server Name or type
    SUN Enterprise T5220
    5. Network:
    Network Speed
5 Containers will share bandwidth of one Gigabit Ethernet NIC, giving theoretical bandwidth of 200Mb/s to each container on average
    Network Card and Network Drivers
Internal Network Interfaces - Type: 10/100/1000; Quantity: 4
External Network Interfaces - Type: x8 PCI express Quad Gigabit Ethernet UTP low profile adapter; Quantity: 4
    Software Stack:
    OS version and OS type
    Sun Solaris 10 US

    Thanks for you response.
For the purpose of our discussion here is what we are looking at:
There is going to be only a single machine a T5220 Sun Server loaded with Solaris 10.
    1. This single machine will hold 70 concurrent applications server 10g.
    2. Each application servers will have its own dedicated Oracle database in a seperate server.
    Should this architecture hold?

  • During consolidation cpu goes 100%

    Hi,
During consolidation CPU is going 100%.
can you suggest me some performance tuning tips to improve the performance.
    HFM 9.3.1.2 Build.

If you are concerned about the processor utilization AND you cannot simply upgrade your hardware AND consolidation time is not an issue for you, then the following registry changes may be for you :
Key Tree,     Key Name,     Key Type,     Min Value,     Max Value,     Default Value,     Unit of Measure,     Description
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\Server\Running Tasks,     MaxNumConcurrentConsolidations,     REG_SZ,     1,     8,          Consolidations,     Controls the nubmer of concurrent consolidations allowed per application server. Any consolidations executed above the value are queued as Scheduled Consolidations.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\Server\Running Tasks,     NumConsolidationThreads,     REG_SZ,     1,     8,          Threads,     Controsl the multi-threading of consolidatiosn per application server. Lowering the value limits the system's utilization of system resources, resulting in slower consolidation performance.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\Server\Running Tasks,     NumConsolidationsAllowed,     REG_SZ,     1,     20,     8,     Consolidations,     Controls the number of conslidations allower per application across all the application servers.

  • Additional Application Server

    Hello All!
I'd like to open a new discussion about adding a new application server to enhance the performance of my production system.
At the implementation, we had only two company codes, but nowadays we have added a new business unit in our SAP system as a new company code. This caused an increase of response time only at closing period (about the 2nd to 3rd business day for CO users) and casually at another time.
This is causing an increase of response time from 600-700ms to 2100ms at the more critical period of day, and consequently dissatisfaction from all users.
On July, we're implementing a new business unit, a new company code, then, a new CO closing procedures. I think it will increase more the response time.
What are your opinion about this case? May I really think about installing an application server to provide more CPU power, even for a short period of the month?
All opinion are very important for me! Thanks in advance for all help!

    Hi André,
if your CPU is often 100%, you have to do something !
There is a very interesting part in WRKSYSSTS - the DB-capacity !
How high is that while the CPU is at 95%+ ?
If this is low, the appl server will help, if not, the SQL is the issue as you are in fear of ...
Why is the DB-time high, even when an appl server might help ?
The db time ALWAYS becomes high, when the CPU is at 100%, because then it just takes long to process each statement ...
But, as said above, it could even be, that the resources are eaten by SQL ...
=> we need the following figure (not on a second base, but several minutes:
    WRKSYSSTS:
    % CPU benutzt  . . . . . :       41,3
    % DB-Kapazität . . . . . :        4,8
    Abgelaufene Zeit . . . . :   00:13:57
How is this on your site typically, when you do have the issues ?

  • Install Oracle Application Server on same as database server

How to Install Oracle Application Server.
Can I install on the same server as database server
Can some body provide a simple tutorial for Windows Installation.
    Ss

If there is no licensing issues - then I could advice SOA Suite installation - there should be AS as well and many other features (BPEL e.g.). Personally I cann't see any need for installation manual as all the installation and configuration assistance poceeds automatically. Documentation can be found http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver.html - usually zip contains large library of pdf, installation manual including.
Well - my problem is that I have installed partially SOA Suite (configuration assistants failed at web services) on machine without DB server, then I installed DB server and now I am trying to deinstall SOA Suite - but now for some days machine shows 100% CPU consumption and no any visible actions (no new errors as well)... What should I do? Kill the process and try to manually remove SOA? I plan after make another SOA installation after removal of this one.
Thanks in someone can help me!
