Application Server & Forms Server

I'm trying to study Oracle Developer. I need someone to tell me what's the different between Application Server and Forms Server?
Is Application server software that can run any application one of them is form applications?
Is it one software? so if I use it to run my forms I’ll call that machine forms server or if i use it to run my report I’ll call it report server.
I would appreciate any help
With regards

Hi.
Oracle Forms Server - the correct name is Oracle Application Server Forms Services - is a component of teh Oracle Application Server.
After installing the full version of Application Server Forms is ready for you to use.
Please refer to the Forms Whitepapers on otn.oracle.com/products/forms for how to configure Forms (formsweb.cfg and default.env) to run your custom applications.
Configuration is also supported through Enterprise Manager.

  • Instalation of oracle8i server, application server (forms server) on same machine

    Hello people.
    I have one question.
I have to install on the same machine:
Oracle 8i Server (817) and the forms server.
When i install the Forms6i + Oracle Database, it works fine.
But when i install the Oracle Database + Ora9ias Enterprise Edition, I verified that there is not the files and directories of forms (when I installed on unix, there were the directory 6iserver).
What steps I need to install the application server?
Do I need to install the Forms6i before install Application Server?
ps) I want to install the Oracle 9ias to use the apache+servlet, and i dont want o use the forms server because i would need one port to use it.
    Thanks Very Much

  • How to issue print command from report/form server to client printer on web

    1) We have a client server application which is to be deployed on the web environment. The reports generated in our application are having a destination type as File. These reports are printed after applying some print format (escape sequences) which are passed on to the printer programmatically at runtime while printing.
Now when this application is shifted on to the Application server (Forms server & Reports Server )in web environment ,the report outputs would be generated in the application server as against the client in client server environment as the report server is on the application server.
Now while printing/accessing the report the output file will not be available to the client unless it is pushed on to the client side from the server . I am able to see reports in pdf/html output but in this case layout of my reports gets changed and I dont want to change my layouts or reformat my report layouts.
How do I redirect the report output from the application server on to the client within the D2k context and then execute print commands?
Note: In this case we want to use both DMT and Laser printing. Also note that we use escape sequences to adjust reports in desired printing papers.
    2) We have second set of reports which we call as document because these are printed after capturing data from 'Form' using text_io utility (please note that for these documents we are not using any Report 6i functionality)and we print it from file using printing mechanism as mentioned above. These are working well in client server application. We adopted this methodology for getting better performance (in terms of speed as database server and network traffic is not involved) of printing. But now we are converting our application for web, we are finding it difficult how to capture Form's data from browser to client's machine and then executing printing commands which are stored in our application liabrary.
If you help me out by giving some suggestions, I shall be grateful to you.

    Hello
I wonder if you ever solved this problem.
I have a very similar problem with Photoshop CS5 on Mac OSX 10.6 + HP Photosmart C7180.
If I choose "Photoshop Manages Colors" the results are lousy.
If I choose "Printer Manages Colors" the results are OK. not necessarily great.
I believe I have all the correct settings after going through books and web advice (and wasted a lot of paper and ink).
As far as I can see, "ColorSync" is the internal Mac management which is the only option available with "Photoshop Manages Colors" and "Vendor Matching" appears to mean the printer vendor (ie HP) will provide the matching. Either can be selected if "Printer Manages Colors" is used. It seems the type of paper can be set in three different places. if That's all a bit academic as the results are poor regardless.
My wife suggests I buy a new printer - Epson's looking good.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

  • Different between Forms Server & OAS ?

    Hi all,
I want to use Form 6i based on 3 thier environment. So, the client able to use form application on web based environment.
    How to install that ?
Must I install OAS in middle thier + Forms Server ?
    or
Only Forms Server in middle thier ?
or other oracle product like oracle portal, ect ?
    null

You need to have forms server as well as a web server on the niddle tier.
You better have a web server that support servlets to be able to run with the servlet architecture of forms.
Since licensing of forms server is bundeled with Oracle9iAS, you should probably install Oracle9iAS on your middle tier which will install the servlet enabled web server + forms server all configured and you'll be ready to go.
You can find more information on forms on the web architecture at : otn.oracle.com/products/form

  • Form Server Connection to Oracle 8i Lite

But i m unable to connect to oracle 8i lite through form server. In normal mode, i m using microsoft odbc for connection with oracle lite, but it doesn't work with form server.
Can any one help me, what should I do to make connection to 8i Lite from Form server ?
    thanks in advance

When using Oracle 8i Lite (4.0.x.x.x) with JDeveloper,
    you have to:
    1) If under JDK 1.1,
1a) make sure that your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin directory is in your
    path.
1b) Add OLITE40.JAR and OLJDK11.JAR to the IDEClassPath in
    JDEVELOPER.INI (remember, ya gotta have
the stuff in your classpath for it to work!)
    2) If under JDK 1.2
2a) Add your %ORACLE_HOME%\BIN directory to the JLP and SLP
    sections under [Ferrari]
2b) Add OLITE40.JAR to the IDEClasspath.
The reason for 2a is that under JDK 1.2, the call
"System.loadlibrary(xxx)" does not use the path to look for the
DLL. Only the system property "java.library.path" and
"sun.boot.library.path" Each of these two settings must
be set for it to work.

  • Multiple versions of an application on one Forms Server

Is it possible to have multiple versions of an application available via one Forms Server?
We have a DEV, TEST and PROD version of an application and we would like to have the versions seperate on one Forms Server.
Would this be possible using any other Oracle tools (Portal)?
    Thanks for your help.

Yes, all you have to do is create a batch file which sets the env variables you want and also starts up the forms listener on a different port. This way you can have a forms listener on e.g.
    Port 9000 With Forms60_Path - c:\temp
    Port 9001 With Forms60_Path - c:\Production
    Port 9002 With Forms60_Path - c:\test
That way you will pick up different files as well.

  • Oracle Application server Forms and Report services 10.1.2.0.2 on Windows 2

    Hi,
I am installing the Oracle Application server Forms and Report services 10.1.2.0.2 on Windows 2003 R2, but the problem is that setup is not running on this Windows 2003 R2 version.
Any idea about this why it is not running.
    Regards,
    Iftikhar

    You asked this
How can i find what is the latest version that i can upgrade this install to
I told you where to find the last update, I checked that version yesterday, the last update is 10.1.2.3, my misstake was to put a 0 before the 3.
You can go to Patches & update>Quick Links to: Latest Patchsets, Mini Packs and Maintenance Packs>Oracle Fussion Middle Ware> Look for you OS versión and CPU> No clic just put pointer over the links and you will see the last one.
And finaly could look for the CPU of Jul and Apr that as requirement they ask for version 10.1.2.3 (as I say I checked yesterday)
    Greetings.

  • Starting/Stopping Application Server Forms and Reports

    Hello,
Are there any scripts (like dbstart and dbshut for Oracle DB) for starting and stopping "Application Server Forms and Reports". If not, any special suggestions?
I must automatically start this application on Unix. I know that during starting some steps must be performedy by the root user (export DISPLAY env variable and issue the "xhost +" command) and later the oracle user must do some things( export ORACLE_HOME and DISPLAY and issue the "opmnctl startall" command). Does anybody have scripts like that?
    Regards,
    Tim

If you're on 10.1.2, there is a script (requires an X Windows session). It's called runstartupconsole.sh, but you've got to update the install type to Portal in the ias.properties file if I remember right. It looks cool, but a shell script works better.
Here is a shell script that does some of those things. You still need to run xhost+ after running a display if you're using something that requires a DISPLAY to start. Someone may have a better one, but this one works.
We actually use one that starts all the different components individually except for Reports in rc scripts. That is the only thing we have that needs a Display set to start. So then xhost + is run & at the same time, the Unix sysadmin runs a script that start Reports from opmn.
    I hope this is useful.
    Cordially,
    Steve

  • J2EE applications Vs. Oracle Forms server

    Hi guys,
I have worked in the oracle forms server and building some J2EE applications.
So what is making me confused is with is better to use? Oracle forms server OR J2EE applications?
I have seen that most of the enterprise applications build on J2EE technology, building applications using Oracle Forms Developer or Oracle Designer Forms Generator is easer than using J2EE technology and as I know forms server is much faster than downloading html pages using J2EE
The BIG question is “Why Oracle is pushing and supporting the J2EE more than the forms server”????????
Please can any one answer this question, I want to posted to some decision makers in my company.
    Thanks a lot,
    Regards,
    Ibrahim Sawalha
    [email protected]

    Ibrahim,
thanks for your question and lets see if I can help answer your points.
"which is better to use" - well it depends! - If you have a team of PL/SQL developers who are comfortable in the relational world and are more focused on the business logic of the application rather than the implementation details, then Forms may be the tool which fits the developers' requirements.
If you have a team of Java programmers and you want ability to build and tailor your application at every level - if you want flexibility on the UI (JSP/HTML, wireless, Swing etc) then J2EE and JDeveloper gives you those choices.
"...[Forms/Designer]is easer than using J2EE" I think that this is true now but becoming less so. Because Forms is a "black box" in that it hide much of the implementation details, it is inherently easier because you are not looking at that implementation level.
However, with Jdeveloper, you are seeing the introduction of more and more frameworks do much of the "common implementation" details for you..and so this becomes easier. Jdeveloper is also introducing a number of features which will make development more productive (e.g. WYSIWYG editors). This will bring it more in line with the Forms development experience.
"Why Oracle is pushing and supporting the J2EE more than the forms server" - well, I guess this is a perception thing. Yes there is a huge push behind J2EE but equally there is a huge effort going into Forms as well (we have a US and EMEA wide Forms Upgrade workshop running at the moment, we have 7 Forms and Designer Papers at ODTUG this year (Jdeveloper has 8 - so its a pretty even split {and thats not including Reports}). Compare the Forms and JDeveloper forums on OTN and you will see both are very active (Forms has the most post of any forum).
I personally believe that as J2EE is a newer technology there is more to talk about that an more estbalished tool like Forms.
So I don't really see it as J2EE vs Forms Server. Its more a case of different technologies, different strengths and the decision on which you use will be based on questions about integration, users, application front end, development skills etc etc....and I would hope that the choice becomes clearer when you address each of these questions.
I hope this helps and please post if you have any more questions.

This behavior might be attributed to Axis inclusion.
Web service actions and wizards supported by Weblogic can be found at:
    File->New->Other->Oracle->WebLogic->Web Services
Can you provide more detail about your starting point wsdl? or JWS? and information around what generation actions you used?
    Thanks
