Application Startup When the iPhone is turned on

Sometimes when I run my application, turn off (not power down) my iPhone, and then turn my iPhone back on the iPhone goes to its home screen (the one that shows all the application icons). Other times it comes back into my application. Does anyone know how to control where the iPhone will go when it comes back on if it is was turned off while running my application? I would like it to turn on and be running my application right where it left off when the phone was turned off.
Thanks,
Stephen

I don't actually want my application to run in the background. I just want to to come back up when the user was running my application when they turned off the screen. I have had my application come back up a few times. So I think that there is a way to do this, but I am just not sure why I am seeing inconsistent behavior.
I am creating an application that has one fairly common use case where the user will turn the screen on and off many times over the course of an hour and they will want my application to be the one to come up. They will most likely not be using any other applications during that hour. Also, they will want as minimal distractions as possible since their attention will be else where and just having to find the application icon and start it again would be bad. I have been using this application on other smartphones for a while and this restore feature is very necessary. I have been using it on my iPhone for the last few weeks and when it does not turn on to my app it is very annoying. I have not yet been able to find any documentation that says what makes an app come up when the user turns the screen on and unlocks and what prevents it from coming up.
Thanks,
Stephen

    You're welcome.
Once again, the Find My iPhone app has no effect on this.
Find My iPhone must be enabled with your iCloud account settings on the iPhone.
    Location Services must be enabled.
The iPhone must be connected to the internet via an available wi-fi network or via the carrier's cellular network.
If the iPhone is powered off, none of the Find My iPhone features can work, and the same if the thief or whoever has access to the iPhone has restored the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone on another computer.

Took my phone to the Apple store this week and they told me it was a hardware/screen malfunction. They replaced the screen for free since it was under warranty. Now it works fine again!

These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

  • Why does the alarm not work when the iphone 4 is turned off

why does the alarm not work when the iphone 4 for is  turned  off works fine when on most other phones work when off

The only phone I've ever had that would turn on and sound the alarm is a Blackberry. So, I'd hardly say "most phones" have this function.

  • Why the iPhone vibrates 2 times when the iPhone OS is starting?

Someone know why the iPhone vibrates two times when the iPhone OS is starting (and the apple logo appears)
In my case, this rare event occurs when a problem with an application (3rd party) force to iPhone to restart or when occurs a problem during the sync with iTunes. After this event, my iPhone never load (your OS) and the only way is the restore.

Amazing how much trouble when can get into by taking shortcuts before we understand something... isn't it....
Read the API and find out for yourself what events are triggered by a JButton......
    Remember thsi advices:
    1) Before using shorthand event handling, make absolutely sure that you understand the process back to front...
    2) Write your own event, listener and implementer in order to get a clearer picture...
    3) Until this is clear to you, always implement the appropriate listener and override the necessary methods....

  • How to stop a2dp from taking playback priority when the IPhone is docked?

I have seen many people having this problem since mid 2009 and it still hasn't been addressed.
The problem is simple. When an IPhone is docked it shouldn't switch to a2dp for playback as soon as it is paired with something. In other words, playback priority should stay with the dock. Or at least there should be an option to disable a2dp playback when the IPhone is docked (or at the very least to disable it all together).
This issue becomes a big problem when you dock an IPhone in a car to playback music, but still need to be able to send and receive calls through bluetooth.
With the current firmware, priority is given to the which ever connection is made last. So when the car is turned on (and the bluetooth connection is made) a2dp takes over playback.
What is anoying is that apple can solve this problem with a simple if-then-else in the firmware code.

  • Background applications bogging down the iphone?

Hey everyone, I am a brand new iphone user. I used to own an HTC 8515 and I recall that it kept applications running in the background and eventually it would start to eat up a lot of RAM. There was a task manager however where you could clear all running programs.
I have been lead to believe that the iphone does the same thing, yet there is no task manager function. I know that holding down the home button closes the app permanently, but is there a way to clear all running programs in the background?
Also, with running all the applications in the background, does this become a problem as far as the speed of the iphone etc? I just have this thing where I like to keep my apps closed and running everything smoothly.
    Thanks in advance!

This has been all over the forum here. From apps crashing, from iPhones rebooting, and in your case, applications slowing down the iPhone, even known keyboard typing slowdown, opening of apps, etc. it all points to memory, or lack there of.
Holding down the "home" button is supposed to close the application. Holding down the "home" button and "standby" (top) button is supposed to reboot the device to clear out everything.
I can't say that all these things have been confirmed will work 100% of the time. As for myself, I try to close out 3rd party applications by holding down the "home" button and so far it has worked. However, when you are playing around with the phone, opening applications and closing it out , at some point you will bog down the device. Wait approximately 10 minutes and it clears itself out. At least that's what it is supposed to do and I have tested this and it does work.
The problem is that 10+ minutes is sometimes precious for me so rebooting is always an option.
So at this point in time, it's a known issue that everyone is addressing, now just cross your fingers and hope apple has a solution.

  • Why does Do Not Disturb only work when the iPhone is locked?

I've been wanting for awhile now a way to easily turn off all notification alerts and incoming calls while keeping cellular data and wi-fi on so I can use my phone in peace without gimping my wireless connections, and even though iOS 6 as a whole seems awesome to me, I'm disappointed Do Not Disturb only works when the iPhone is locked.

Was just wondering if other people felt the same way I do and start a discussion about it so maybe that with more people talking about it, Apple would pay attention to it more. People complaining about how calls and alerts were lighting up their screen at night seems to be some inspiration to why Apple added Do Not Disturb in the first place. Didn't know I was doing anything in violation of the Terms of Use so sorry about that.

  • Where do I find the backup files when the iPhone is backed up?

Where do I find the backup files when the iPhone is backed up?
    Thanks in advance.

On the Mac they're at ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. But, there aren't files there you can directly use - the backup is actually a SQLite database.
iPhone Backup Extractor (Google it) is a free Mac utility that can access some parts of the backup.

    Remove all apps listed there.
    And check /Library/StartupItems
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

  • Does anyone know when the iphone 5 will be out?

does anyone know when the iphone 5 will be out?

Sorry for the practical joke, but really, there are dozens if not hundreds of threads asking this question and the answer is always the same: No one knows exactly, and that's the way Apple wants it. Apple hasn't even announced that there is going to be an iPhone 5; it's all speculation and rumor for now.
My best guess is that you'll see a new iPhone at the same time iOS 5 is released, which should be late September or early October. (Or not... Apple will only say, "Fall 2011 – nothing more specific.) But it might not be an iPhone 5; it could be a slightly modified iPhone 4, or nothing at all.

  • Headphones only work if already plugged in when the Mac is turned on

I have a 13” mid-2012 MacBook Air running Mountain Lion. I recently noticed this problem with headphones. If I plug them in when the laptop is already running, they don’t work at all. Sound continues to play through the speakers, and the OS doesn’t recognize that headphones were plugged in. If I go to Sound on the System Preferences, the headphones don’t show up at all on the list of output devices; only the integrated speakers show up. If I alt-click on the sound icon on the top bar, there are no headphones listed under output devices either. The sound continues to play normally through the speakers as if the headphones weren’t plugged in. However, if I plug in the headphones when the machine is turned off, and then turn it on, they work perfectly (well, sound quality isn’t great, but they work). If I then unplug the headphones and plug them back in, they don’t work anymore as described above. I tested this with multiple headphones, all of which work normally on other devices like my PC, iPod and Android phone. I tried resetting PRAM and that other thing (SNC?), didn’t work either. I don’t think it’s a hardware problem, since it works normally under specific conditions. Sounds more like a software bug, but I’m no expert.. I searched around for issues like this, but only found generic answers which didn’t solve the problem, as well as unanswered posts

Since this is a consistant  and repeatable issue, take it in to your nearest Apple store genius bar for evaluation.  If you are still under warranty, they should fix the problem.
    Ciao.
