Applications are constantly quitting on lainch

All of a sudden, various applictions have started to quit immediately after
I've launched them. At first, I thought it was just iPhoto, which quit after
asking if I wanted to import pictures, but now I have found various
applications vanishing as soon as I launch them, ranging from Snow Leopard
cache cleaner, through Disk Warrior to Submerge. It's inconvenient and worrying...I've checked and repaired the hard disk, checked and
repaired permissions...nothing is effective

Cache Cleaner may have started some recurring corrupting caches which affect LaunchServices. Remove it and don't use software that does cache cleaning. It is a common myth that this is required Mac OS X maintenance. It is not.
You may have to restore your backup and extract out the program before this issue began to avoid it happening again.
If you have no earlier backup, you may just want to restore your documents to an erase and installed system, after initially backing up your system twice.

  • My essbase applications are constantly getting corrupted

Hi, I have several essbase applications and for some reason, I don't know why, they are getting corrupted very often. It is very strange. The thing is that when this happens, I have to create another application, with a different name and buiild and import all data into the cube in order to have my information. The other application (corrupted) is unavailable and cannot delete it from the EAS. Some days after this, the application that I created instead of the first one, gets corrupted again and I have to do the same thing once again in order to have my information.
Has this happened to someone else? Does someone know why this happen and how to solve it??
    Thanks!!!!

Thanks... im working with EAS 9.3.1, all my applications are block storage, when I try to load information into my cube, it says Network error, cannot send / recieve data. It is not a network problem because I can still load information in other cubes. After this, I can't load information. I try to stop the application, and then start it again, and it won't let me. It says, cannot load database. This is when I know my cube is corrupted.
After this, i can't even delete it from the EAS. Here is when i have to create another application and do everything again. Until now, I have 5 versions of my application and only the last one works.
In the xcp files, I can't find something relevant.
    thanks

  • All applications are opening/quitting very slowly or not at all.

Hi, I have a question about my MacBook Pro. Lately, when I've been opening or quitting different applications, they take several seconds to open, and they often say "Application not responding", and I have to force quit. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

A few tips you can try:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
You can also boot from an installer disk, and run diskutility to repair the HD.
This article refers to starup troubles, but can also be used for other issues as well

If none of this helps, post back for other ideas.

  • URGENT: Final Cut Pro Constantly Quiting

    Hello Everyone
I am hoping that you will be able to help me out with this large issue.
    First off I am using:
Apple Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 within the Final Cut Studio 5
on an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz iMac 24" with 3GB of Ram and 512 Video Card from nVidia
When I open my project file from double clicking on it I can not export, import or open another file, the application quits.
So my problem is the application is constantly quitting when I go to open a project file from within FCP as well I can not import or export any files, without the application quitting.
I have tried wiping the preferences using 2 different programs and doing it manually.
I have tried re-installing FCP following the instructions on the Apple Support web site.
This is urgent we need this to be working for a film festival and I am stuck.
    please respond.

Reinstalling FCP would have been my suggestion, that's what I finally had to do a few weeks ago. Preferences usually do not affect this behavior AFAICT. On my systems, quitting without an error box or without an offer to send comments to Apple indicates a bad media file somewhere in the project. So we configure FCP to open into a blank project and then try to figure out what might have been messed up. It is usually one of the last rendered or imported media files.
Listen, this is not necessarily the best advice. You should wait till you get other suggestions
So, suggest your sort your scratch folders by date, move everything that was created AFTER YOUR LAST GOOD SESSION to the trash and try it again.
Warning, FCP can look in the trash so you may have to actually empty it and recreate all of those missing files.

  • HELP!!!  Message - (One or more applications are using the iTunes scripting interface. Are you sure you want to quit?)  How do I get this to stop?

I bought a new Sony Vaio Laptop running Windows 8, 64bit, i7 processor.  Everytime I open iTunes and then close out, the following message occurs: (i-tunes message - One or more applications are using the iTunes scripting interface. Are you sure you want to quit?) Then it starts counting down from 20 seconds unless I just click on the (Quit) button.  How do I get this to stop?  Please be specific, I am challenged when it comes down to computers.
    Thank You

This was extremely annoying for me, also.  I started uninstalling unneeded Sony applications to try to narrow down the problem.  It turned out not to be a Sony application... it is some functionality built into the bluetooth driver software package by Broadcom.  Uninstalling the bluetooth package (via the control panel) takes care of the problem.  Itunes also boots up way quicker.  But uninstalling it will remove features related to bluetooth and nfc.   For me, that isn't an issue, since I don't use them.  Since you said you're "computer challenged" I would probably just send an email to sony complaining about the problem.  They'll get in touch with Broadcom eventually (the manufacture of the drivers) and get the problem fixed.
Side note: the Broadcom package is huge...  nearly 1GB in size.  Which is crazy.  I can't imagine what it does considering the size of it.  Entire operating systems can take up less storage.  Also, I have no idea how it starts an itunes plugin without placing it into the standard plugin directories.

  • Safari CONSTANTLY quitting

for at least the past two months now, I have Safari either quit or freeze on my twice a week. It's quit at least 10 times in 6 weeks and have gave apple a piece of my mind in every "crash report" I've sent including how many times it's crashed. In addition to the crashing is persistent freezing. The problem with the freezing is that it's not a crash thus I can't report those instances to apple. I've a heavy safari user, usually at least 5 window open, and at times upwards of 10 easily. I'm running on a 17" Core Duo MacBook Pro with 2Gb of RAM and notice that Safari usually uses usually 500Mb of actual RAM but anywhere from 1-4GB of virtual RAM.
My hard drive space is getting limited and will get it upgraded soon, but not now. My current available space is only 1.7 Gb and I'm wondering if that's why Safari is constantly quitting, because it's running out of space for cache or temp files or whatever it's using upwards of 1GB virtually for. This constant quitting is VERY annoying as I leave pages up that I want to check on later open or minimized, then these crashes come and I loose all that. Is it just me or is Safari very unstable? I'm highly debating switching to Firefox, but in my current state, don't feel that downloading another application because of lack of HDD space would help.
Any other suggestions or do I just need to wait until Leopard for a solid build of Safari and not this crash ridden one I have now?
    -Brian

    Brian
You need to have a minimum of 10% of your HD space free at any time for the OS to use as Virtual memory, temp. files etc. More if you're doing a lot of work with video or any app that deals in very large files.
This is exactly why you've been having crashes, and unless you sort this issue out immediately you are very likely to suffer data corruption and loss.
Did I say immediately? How about even sooner than that.
So, let me be clear, this is not a "crash ridden" build of Safari - mine runs for days on end with more than 5 tabs open - but it is a very overcrowded disk. You are courting disaster.
    Regards
    TD

  • Is anyone else having trouble with Creative Cloud Tonight? ALLLLL Applications are down. None are working.

I have verified with at least 5 other people that all their applications are down and no one can sign in to the creative cloud on their desktop. I am experiencing the exact same thing. It started with Lightroom and then just stopped. I was able to just log into photoshop, but i can confirm lightroom is def not working any longer after the upgrade 2015 the other day. its horrible.

I can still launch applications, but for some reason the CreativeCloud app is hung on a network request.
I was able to force quit the Creative Cloud app, then relaunch it, and it is working.
Lightroom and Photoshop launch, but LR is hanging for about 20 seconds in the splash screen (when it normally does not).
So yes, there appears to be some sort of network/server issue with Creative Cloud right now.
But I can't find any errors listed in their status pages, so it may only be a slowdown due to a network issue outside the servers.

  • A pop up is displayed every 10 seconds "You can't open the application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported"

Shortly after upgrading to version 10.7, I installed an application that was not compatable with the LION operating system.  The application was for an external Maxtor hard drive that appearantly was intened for an earlier Mac operating system.
Now I get the popup "You can't open the application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported" about every 10 seconds.
How to I get rid of this.
There is nothing to Force Quit.  The process (if it is a process) does not show up in Activity Monitor.  I have also tried to use the KILLALL command but no process is found by that name.

Absolutely frustrated by the same problem, just lost 3 hours of my day trying to uninstall after getting the same error message. The ONLY thing that worked for me was going to the following Maxtor (Seagate) URL:
    http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/199931en
I downloaded their "remove maxtor sw.zip" file
Click here to download the remove_maxtor_sw.zip file and store it on your system's desktop.
And it worked perfectly. Took 10 seconds and - after restarting - it was done.
What a waste of the day!!!

  • "Application system preferences quit unexpectedly" Error message

This is the message that I get when I try to open the destop and screensavers part of the system preferences. It also does a similar thing when I open photoshop and press command+O to open a file but not when I right click a file and open it in photoshop. It also closes unexpectedly when you try to "save as" but not when you press command+S to save.
    Please help!
    Error as it apears below
    Application system preferences quit unexpectedly
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
    The application Photoshop quit unexpectedly
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
Thanks, I can't live without Photoshop
    -IC

That message means that the programs are crashing for some reason. I can't speak for Photoshop, but for System Preferences you may have a non-Apple screen saver that is causing the crash when the Desktop & Screen Saver pref pane tries to load. If so, go to ~/Library/Screen Savers (~ means your home folder) and remove anything you see. You can always add them back later.
If that doesn't help, go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete these files:
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist
Then open the "ByHost" folder in the same location and delete anything starting with
    com.apple.screensaver
    Hope that helps.

  • Have an Epson workforce 600 worked fine until new router and Lion installed.  Now when I try and scan with the all in one I get a "POWER PC APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTED"  and my IMAC does not recognize that the Epson is a multi function printer.

Installed a new router.  Installed Lion. Have an Epson Workforce 600 multi function printer.  Two problems.
    1. I cannot get Lion to recognize that the Epson is a multi function printer.  There is no scan option on the "print/Scan" popup window.
    2. When I try and use the epson scan utility I get:  POWER PC APPLICATIONS ARE NOT LONGER SUPPORTED.
I have tried EPSON support with no real luck as they say it is Apple upgrades that are the problem.
Apple support was quite rude..said it was not their problem and that I should call epson.  Told the I did but it made no difference just got the same reply.
Have no idea what to do.....seems I cannot find out which multi-function printers Lion supports.

    daolbuzzard1 wrote:

Not to give you another run around, but you need new printer drivers from Epson for your printer so it works in Lion.
Now it could be that they are working on it, or that they could have decided not to provide new drivers in order for you to force upgrade.
The only thing a user can do is decide very carefully BEFORE upgrading to a newer Apple operating system, make sure that all their current hardware and software works and make a decision for themselves.
Since you upgraded to Lion, you can go back to Snow Leopard and your PPC software will work.
    Do you need instructions?

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that this Internet criminal has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

just update my iMac from Mountain Lion to Mavericks and the application are slow to open. The same happens to opening webpages . Please help

Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My iPhoto is not working, it quit unexpecly and it shows this message- The application "iPhoto" unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows.  Do you want to try to restore its windows again?

i can't open my iPhoto, it was working very slow and now its not working at all, when i try to open it it shows this message: The application “iPhoto” unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows.  Do you want to try to restore its windows again?
how can i fix this problem?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Upgraded to OS X 10.9.4 and Safari 'is no longer supported' Also get the error when trying to run the App Store, ' PowerPC applications are no longer supported. This is on a MAC Book Air, purchased in late 2013.

Safari and the App store icons are both deactivated. I also cannot a software update check, as it gives the 'PowerPC applications are no longer supported error'
Very frustrating, cannot do anything with this laptop now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance. You can skip this step if you don't care about the data that hasn't been backed up.
Reinstall the OS.* Your data should be unaffected unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Application Photo Shop Quit Unexpectedly

I am using a G5, 3GB 2x2.66 GHx Dual Core Intel Xeon with Photoshop CS with 28 GB remaining memory. It has been working fine for yearsbut unexpectedly quit and can not be relaunched. I have original disk, and tried to reinstall, but I continue to get the same error message at the onset of launching after loading "...TWAIN...".
The error message is as follows: The Application Photoshop quit unexpectedly. Mac OS and other applications are not not affected...
Can you help me? I have sent a report to Adobe but have not heard from anyone. Thank you!

    >with 28 GB remaining memory
    That sounds like
hard drive space, not "memory". Memory is RAM.
Disable the TWAIN plug-in. You have installed an (Epson?) scanner with a drived that conflicts with the with the TWAIN plug-in in Photoshop.
This is covered in the FAQs of this forum. Please read them.
