Applications bounce in dock but do not open.

Hi, I'm having problems with applications not opening.
I've posted a few times, but no-one seems to want to help.
Is there anyway I can reinstall OS X without wiping all of my images from aperture, or any way of getting my images from aperture, because this is one of the applications not opening.
Obviously a resolution for the applications not opening would be preferable.

I've tried that one and its systemwide...
I have the logs here from when Applications don't open...
Its a log of Aperture, iTunes and iDVD.

Application bounces in dock but does not launch

When I double-click on a FileMaker file, it used to automatically launch FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced until about a week ago. Now, when I double-click on a FileMaker file, the applcation icon bounces for a fraction of a second in the Dock but does not launch.
If I drag the file to the application, then FileMaker launches.
Other applications are not exhibiting this odd behavior.
How can I fixt it?
G5 Tower Mac OS X (10.4.2)

remove (drag out) the filemaker icon from the dock, open finder and locate the filemaker application and drag it back to dock.
If this does not help, the console messages mentioned before might help us more.

My problem is that several programs refuse to open up. My VLC player, as well as all components of Microsoft Office, when clicked in the dock, the icon bounces, and then stops- without opening the program. I need to know how to fix this as I use Word everyday and am having trouble without it.

Yes, I did use a utility to remove languages from my system. I used monolingual. However, it was working for a couple days after. But this makes complete sense because I ran monolingual about a week and a half ago and since have noticed the problem, also Office and VLC are the only two programs on my macbookpro that are powerpc. Thank you figuring out the cause of my problem! I visited the VideoLan site and downloaded the intel version of VLC, and it is now running perfectly. However, what can I do about my Microsoft Office suite and the Rosetta translation? How exactly do I do a System Archive and Install, is there another way?

Ok, that's plenty of space.
Check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down the c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar > select Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side (the name of the HD’s manufacturer and the model number, usually the top item in the list) > look at the bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” (good) or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T. status is "Verified," run Repair Disk > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility (such as DriveGenius, TechToolPro, DiskWarrior) or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD which will need to be replaced (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.

Safari bounce in dock but does'nt open.....

Safari is in Accounts>log in items. Bounces at startup in the dock but doesn't open on desktop. Trashed plist for safari, run OnyX and rep'd perms. Any ideas short of extarcting and reinstalling a new copy. By the way if I do this, how do I ensure my bookmarks are kept for the new version?

Hi Warwick,
Try placing a url shortcut in the login items rather than Safari itself. I.e. When at your preferred homepage, drag the icon to the left of the address onto your Desktop and then add that Desktop shortcut to the login items.
Another poster mentioned what you are seeing a while back and this seems to work.

I have downloaded Elements trial. Organiser appears in my dock but does not open. Help?

This is the second time that I have downloaded Photoshop elements trial. The first time I was able to use Organiser without any issues. The second time I went to use it on the first download it would not open (no matter where I tried to open Organiser from). I uninstalled the trial and downloaded it again. Again, I have both Elements and Organiser in my dock but when I click on Organiser to open it, nothing happens. I am using a Mac.

Having put my home-page under "new windows open with home-page" solves the "blank title page problem".
One problem left: "safari" does not startup automatically as set in system preferences, whereas "mail", also set for startup DOES startup

I've Been Trying to use an application called crossover but every time I Open It It Just bounces for ages and does nothing!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

I have installed an application on my iPad but Can not open it ?

I Have an iPad mini. I have installed copilot and Skype for iPad from the apps store but nothing happen when I click on the open button. What should I do ?

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. A backup makes such a situation a minor annoyance rather than a big problem. Open Spotlight and see if you can find it. If not, replacement disks can be procured from Apple Customer Support. Have your Mac serial number ready when you call and there is a charge.

Itunes is showing as open but will not open the folder nor will it close

I keep itunes on an external hard drive and when I switched on my mac, itunes was lit up in the dock but would not open or close. I unlocked the hard drive and itunes would still not respond. Last week i upgraded to os 10.8.5 and updated itunes to 11.1.1. It all seemed fine at the time although itunes match would always fail at stage 3. I don't knwo if that's connected or another issue. Please help! Thank you.

First, tell Apple about your problems... with details... and hope for an update that fixes your slowness

I can't run activity monitor application. It just processes with the multicolored disc spinning, but does not open.

When I access it in Force Quit it's listed as not responding. If your hard drive is full, you have to delete files. Open Finder, search in all your user's folders and delete files that you don't need, or move them to an external drive.
When the hard drive is full, OS X works slow and applications may freeze, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the reason why Activity Monitor isn't working

I meant holding the "option" (or "alt") key on your keyboard as you click the Outlook icon on the Dock, and continuing to hold it until you see the Microsoft Database Utility come up. Alternatively, you can open the utility by navigating to Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office and then double-clicking the Microsoft Database Utility app.
When you rebuild your database using that program, a backup copy of your original database (containing your account info, contacts, mail, calendars, etc) will be created. As a security precaution, you should also ensure you have a backup of your database (which you can find by going to Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/ and copying the contents of that folder onto an external drive).
