Applications displayed in wrong language in Spotlight

All,
Having a really weird problem on my MacBook: whenever I fire a spotlight window and type, say, "Disk Utility", it can't find it until I type it completely, and afterwards it finds it with russian name = "Дисковая утилита". System is a brand new English Snow Leopard, installed as an update over English Leopard, with British locale. An only Russian thing I have is a secondary keyboard layout. Everything else is native British English.
I've tried:
- switching primary language to Russian and back to English
- repairing permissions
- rebuilding spotlight index
It didn't help. Does anyone has any other ideas?
(in the meantime, my iMac which runs nearly identical settings, upgraded with no problems at all).
Screenshots of the problem:

It drives me nuts, really, somebody help me to keep my sanity!

sigiz
I have a similar problem because I work in Italian and English and my main keyboard has the Italian layout.
I often get user agreements for software presented to me in Italian but never an actual application installed in its Italian version.
Try temporarily disabling your Russian keyboard option and see what happens.

  • RTE displays in wrong language

Hello! My problem is that when I run the JRE installer (jre-6u23-windows-x64.exe) that I downloaded from "www.java.com"; using internet explorer (64bit), it displays in spanish. And, when the RE is installed, the java configuration program (I don't remember the exact name) that is added in the control panel, also displays in spanish.
    However:
    - the machine where I am installing the JRE has a Windows 7 (x64) ultimate edition in ENGLISH (the CD is in english and the installation was displayed in english).
    - the value specified in "Control panel" -> "Region and Language" dialog -> "Location" tab -> "Locale" combo box, is "United States".
    - the value specified in "Control panel" -> "Region and Language" dialog -> "Keyboard and Languages" tab -> "Choose display language" combo box, is "English".
    - the value specified in "Control panel" -> "Region and Language" dialog -> "Administrative" tab -> "Current language for non-Unicode programs" is set to "English (United States)".
    - the value specified in "Control Panel" -> "Hardware and Sound" -> "Location and Other Sensors" -> "Default Location" dialog -> "Country Region" combo box, is "United States".
    - the IE prefered languages list in the "Language Preference" dialog contains a single element that is "English (United States) [en-US]". This dialog is reached going to "Control Panel" -> "Internet Properties" dialog -> "General" tab -> "Languages" button.
    - the OS is clean: it was installed by me a few minutes before this problem began, and the only programs that where installed before JRE are: Adobe Reader X, ATI Catalyst install manager, Avast! antivirus, WinRAR, TextPad and drivers.
    - I restarted the machine more than one time after setting the above values.
What else has I have to configure, or what must I do to have the java JRE installer and configuration program in english? I was tree nights searching a solution in the web with no success.
Possible reasons that could confuse the JRE installer:
    - The first time I installed the JRE the locale was set to Argentina, but I uninstalled it immediatly with the intention to reinstall it in english.
    - The physical location of the machine (and me) is in Argentina, and also my internet service provider.
    - The spanish language pack is installed, however it was never applied. I installed it to use in a windows user account that I have not created yet.
Thank you for your valuable time,
    Gustavo

If so, it's possible that the version of the JRE you got from java.com was a Spanish one.
You might try downloading again, but this time making sure that you specifically select the English version. Alternatively, there may be language add-ons you can choose.

  • Feedback assistant wrong language

I just installed the OS Yosemite on my computer and when it start the Feedback assistant display a wrong language i just want to know how i can change it cause i don't speak rusian... and i can't select all the words to know what does they mean. Ty.
And it would be cool if apple starts a community for Yosemite

Well i try that way too, but it didn't work. The only way i find to fix it was:
    -System preferences
-Language and regions (Blue Flag icon)
and there will be all the Languages preloaded by the OS on the left side in my case i delete rusian and portuguese as javierfajnolla but it didn't work so:
-Place the english on top of spanish by dragging it.
-Once u do this it change the main Language on the computer and it restart
-Once the computer turns on the problem should be solved. i haven't try to change it again to Spanish cause both works good for me but u can try.
I hope you guys can solve ur problems too.
    Good night.

  • Displays wrong language in mail and safari!

All of a sudden my Safari and my mail applications display in Thai. I have checked out all of my language options on the computer and have no idea what is wrong. It doesn't do so in FIrefox, and does it on most pages in safari. If I have an html email it will show up in this other language too. What could possibly be the problem? I have no idea what I did to make this happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    tpetrini,
I went to both Safari and Mail and looked in preferences and neither have a tab that allows you to enter paper size. However, when you go to Print in both you get the print dialog box (in my case I have a Canon IP5200 as my default printer and that is where paper size shows up and my default is set at letter size. Therefore it would lead me to believe that somewhere on your print dialog there should be a place to set default parameters for printing.

In this link also i struck in
In page 10  of that document
The application is now ready to be translated. Everything is in place to run it in any language imaginable. To ca ll the application in another language, change the URL of your application to the following:
    http://yourdomain:port/pls/apex/f?p=&APP_ID.:&PAGE_ID.:&SESSION_ID.:LANG:NO::FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE:nl
This example will call the chosen page in the application and show it in the Dutch language instead of in English. To select another language change the property nl at the end of the URL to your desired language code.

  • How can I launch configurator from host application in a specefic language.

    Hi,
I want to access R12 configurator from a host application and I have no problems accessing it.
But I want that the configurator should Launch in Japanese Language. Can I specify any XML parameter to the UIServlet to achieve this or is there any other Method?
    Thanks

Per the "Deploying a User Interface that Supports MLS" section in Chapter 14 ("Multiple Language Support") of the Oracle Configurator Implementation Guide:
"When a host application launches Oracle Configurator to configure an item, the language specified in the database ICX session ticket is passed to Oracle Configurator.  Oracle Configurator uses this information to determine which translated text to retrieve from the database and display in the UI."
So essentially, Configurator will display the same language that the hosting application is displaying, the language the user has logged into EBS with.  (Of course, translated text will only appear in Configurator if you have supplied translations in the CZ_LOCALIZED_TEXTS table.)  If you need Configurator to display a different language than its hosting application, that would require a customization of the initialization string the hosting application sends to Configurator, specifying a different icx_session_ticket parameter value.
    Hope this helps.

  • Impossible to uninstall v16. Automatically re-installs with wrong language (afrikaans) despite manual uninstall of rem Moreover keeps freezing windows explorer.

I Downloaded and installed v17 beta on my desktop (W7/64). OK
I noticed later that the version had changed without doing anything (moved back to v16.0.2, and displayed in Afrikaans).
Note that a second drawer is installed under Program files X86 (Mozilla maintenance service)
I uninstalled both drawers (Firefox & mozilla maintenance service) several times through windows control panel.
Every times remain some leftovers (e.g desktop icon, and the drawers listed above , but they are generally empty)
I tried cleaning registry afterwards (Tuneup utilities, Ccleaner) and even reboot the machine)
And it's always the same story: Firefox icon re-appears on my desktop, and can be normally opened . The software is always displayed in afrikaan language .
Moreover, I noticed (when I try to open the drawer (program files X86) that windows explorer freezes.
I had same problems on 2 windows 7 partitions, same computer. But never under windows 8
I really could do with a bit of help. It looks as though this piece of software is corrupt, and I really don't understand how it can manage to reappear a couple of minutes after being uninstalled .
Otherwise it's not a genuine Firefox version ?
    Best regards
    Philippe cante
I made screenshots of unistall/cleaning/opening process if that's of any interest to you But I can't attach a file!

The maintenance service runs as a background Window service if necessary and is responsible for downloading and applying an update for all installed Firefox versions without the need to respond to an UAC confirmation that comes with a dimmed window. You only need to give permission once when you install Firefox and the maintenance service isn't installed yet.
If the Firefox user interface (menu bar) is in the wrong language or if you want to change the current language then you can get Firefox in the language of your choice here:
    *Firefox 17.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html

  • Preferred languages and Spotlight

I'm having a problem with Spotlight since Tiger. I have the OS and most applications in Spanish, but I prefer to have the few ones that are translated into Galician in that language, so my language preferences list is Galician, Spanish and English. The thing is that, if Spotlight doesn't find localized applications or files with a localization into Galician, it automatically skips to English, ignoring that Spanish is the second language of my list.
Anybody knows how to solve this issue?
    Thanks!

    Hi Tomas
Unfortunately I can't answer your first question, because we still work with an older version than 10g.
But for hiding portlets we use a quite simple workaround that should work in your version as well:
We define a default user group for each language so that their members are automatically routed to the entry page of their basic language.
Furthermore we use footer links with direct access to the corresponding application in the other languages (hard coded links to the entry point of the application).
I admit frankly that this isn't the most elegant solution, but it works and is quite easy to be implemented!
For the above solution, of course, you need one application per language with separate components for each language!
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks

  • Wrong language when choosing a preferred language which is not the main UI language in some iOS8 apps (including App Store)

I've chosen Galician as my preferred language in iOS8. Since the iPhone is not translated to Galician, only the apps which are translated into Galician show up in that language, but the UI shows in Spanish (the second preferred language). Or should it be like that, because some apps (Twitter, Telegram, even the App Store) which have an Spanish translation show up in English. The App Store is even buggier because its fine on my iPad and it used to be OK on my iPhone with these settings, but suddenly it switched to English only in the iPhone. No matter how many times I force quit or reboot the iPhone, wrong language is displayed in some apps.

I think correct behavior is for apps to use the 2nd language on the list, if they do not have the first but do have the 2nd.  I don't know why some app would do otherwise.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Go to System Preferences...>International>Language>Languages: Drag languages into the order you prefer for use in application menus, dialogs, and sorting.
You may also have to "Edit List..."

    Hi Ed,
This document describe the process but for Adobe Application Manager rather than Creative Cloud for desktop.

You access the setting in Creative Cloud for desktop from the gear icon in the top right and then going to Preferences and to the Account section

  • Translate Application- browser application based on the language defined

    Dear All Expert,
My oracle apex application is develop in oracle 11g XE edition, apex application primary language is in english. And i would like to switch my application to chinese language based on the language defined on my oracle database table.
I did translated my application to chinese language and published.
I created application processes called "set_language", the conditions type is "Request = Expression 1" and i set "Expression 1" to value "LANG". (Fire on header load)
    setlanguage pl/sql as below;_
    begin
    owa_util.redirect_url('f?p='||:APP_ID||':'||:APP_PAGE_ID||':'||:APP_SESSION);
    end;
I created a button with label "chinese" on my login page. This button will send a request "LANG" and set "FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE" to value "zh-tw" ,and redirected to my login page again when button pressed. This work fine.
My question here is how can i automatically browser the apex application based on the language defined on my database table. (I had a table to stored language to be use browser the application.) Mean that i want my apex application to check the language from my db table in order to browser the application based on the language defined.
How can i do that? Can anyone help on it?
Another question is about the logout in chinese language display.
The application will automatically switch to english when i logout my application. How can i maintain in chinese language?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Apex Junior.

Hello, (What is your first name?)
    >> I tried to used session as derived my second language which is "zh-tw".
The Session option allows you to use the built-in procedure apex_util.set_session_lang or the parameter p_lang - as part of the application URL – to dynamically set the application language.
If you use the p_lang parameter as part of your application URL, the first page – including the login page – will be rendered according to this parameter. In your case it can look something like this:
    http://. . ./f?p=1234 . . . &p_lang=zh_tw
    >> From your reply, you are suggested to use APPLICATION PREFERENCE(FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE).
As I mentioned in the last paragraph of my previous reply, if you choose to set the application language for each individual login, based on a parameter you need to fetch (like the database language), you don’t need to use application preference. The latter is useful when the user preference is lasting (i.e., a certain user is using the same language all the time, although you have the option of changing it). If the language can change from one session to another, based on dynamic parameters in the database, the best is to use the * FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE* item.
The advantage of using the p_lang parameter is that it allows you to set an appropriate language even for the first application page (usually the login page). Using the FSP_LANGUAGE_PREFERENCE item requires you first to set its value. Before that, the Application Builder uses the primary language to render the first page, and because of that, the first rendering of the login page is in the primary language.
I want to draw your attention to the Browser (use browser language preference) option. If your application language tightly correlated with the browser language – it’s reasonable to assume that users that want to use zh-tw in the application, also using the same language in their browser – this option is a very simple and straightforward to set the application language from the first page.
    Regards,
    Arie.
