Applications folder does not hold its folder view setting

The OS X 10.9.2 /Applications folder didn't preserve its folder settings. It always went back to the default folder size and position after a reboot.
I tried to delete...
/Applications/.DS_Store and
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
...and let the Disk Utility fix permissions (it fixed /Applications/.DS_Store owner and permissions) but nevertheless the problem persisted.
I have an external OS X 10.9.2 test disk that does not have this problem. For some reason the problematic disk did not have /.DS_Store file at its root directory.
This fixed it for me (I got the tip from these forums):
I booted from an external disk. Get Info from the problematic disk and check "Ignore ownership on this volume". Then opened and set its root directory (the main window) and the Applications folder settings inside it as desired. Then unchecked the "Ignore ownership on this volume" setting.
Viola! Now the root directory and Applications folder settings are as I want. (Disk Utility again fixed the .DS_Store file's permissions).
Maybe just copying the .DS_Store from some other folder to the root directory via the Terminal would have also done it.

You have to drag it to the rights side of the Dock (right of the sizing gadget.)

    My Iphone 4 does not hold its signal. This has been going on for a day and I have not dropped my Iphone recently. It says "searching" and than "no service" and than it shows bars for AT&T...This happens every time I look at the phone and also drops the calls when on the phone. My phone appears to be in great condition on the outside. What should I do?

    Have you checked with AT&T to see if there is an outage in your area?

  • Help! Order of photos in a Folder does not match order of albums

    I have seen dozens of threads on folders and albums, sorting them etc. However did not quite find an answer to this one.
    The question is : Why the order of photos in a Folder does not match with the order of Albums I have created underneath the Folder?
    In other words I created a floder and placed within the folder a few albums we will call G, K, C ...etc in the chronological order in which I want to show the pictures. The pictures within the album are not strictly chronological. ( I will explain more if this is an issue)
    Next when I click on the Folder, I notice that the photos are grouped by the corresponding Album which is what they should be, however their(photos) order did not correspond to that of the Albums. In other words, in the Folder view, I see photos of K first and then may be G and then may be C. I am not able to change that order to G, K, C..the way I want. This will mess up the slideshow for me.
    For clarity, I created each album simply by dragging corresponding event down into the Folder. The events are sorted by date and ascending in View>Sort Events.
    I appreciate any suggestions please!
    Thanks

    Try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
    or with Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks delete the contents the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    3 - reboot, launch iPhoto, reset its preferences and try the slideshow again.
    NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Part of Photoshop isn't functioning.  Under adjustments, when HDR toning is clicked on I get a code:  Error 48: File or folder does not exist.  Line:11  - $.evalFile(g_StackScriptFolderPath   "StackSupport.jsx");  How can it be fixed?

    The phone company was here working on something while I was gone.  They sat down at my computer (iMac) and since then HDR toning doesn't work.  Get the code:   Error 48: File or folder does not exist.    Line: 11     ->  $.evalFile(g_StacScriptFolderPatch + "StackSupport.jsx");   How can this be fixed?

    Go to //Applications/Adobe Photoshop [Version]/Presets/ Scripts/Stack Scripts Only/ and see if StackSupport.jsx is there. If it is not, uninstall and reinstall Photoshop to have it added back in. If it is there, first try recreating the Photoshop Preferences (hold down Command+Option+Shift while launching Photoshop).

  • "Always open in column view" does not hold

    "Always open in column view" does not hold the preference when applied to my hard drive.
    I select Macintosh HD and choose the column view. I go to View > Open View Options and check "Always open in column view". Then if I click on a different folder and go back to Macintosh HD, column view is retained... that is until I restart the computer.
    After a restart, when I click on Macintosh HD I am back to icon view. Again I go to View > Open View Options, and somehow the preference has changed to "Always open in icon view". If I switch back to column view, the preference is retained again until I restart, then it's back to icon view.
    Other folder and external drives open in column view after a restart, it is just Macintosh HD that always reverts to icon view.
    Sent a bug report to Apple, but any ideas how to fix this?

    Did you try to build the application (Project->Build in Visual Studio) ? If the error doesn't go away then and you have no other compilation errors (if you do you need to fix these first), you should replace "FolderExplorer" with the namespace
    in which the Folder class resides. If you haven't explicitly declared a namespace, you will find the name of the default namespace under Project->Properties->Root namespace. Copy the value from this text box to your XAML:
    xmlns:my="clr-namespace:FolderExplorer"
    The default namespace is usually the same as the name of the application by default so if your application is called "FolderExplorer" you should be able to build it.
    If you cannot make it work then please upload a reproducable sample of your issue to OneDrive and post the link to it here for further help.

  • MW64,  cs6 bridge when I move or copy files the  context menu does not retain  recent folder destinations after I close the program

    W64,  cs6 bridge when I move or copy files the  context menu does not retain  recent folder destinations after I close the program. The context options that show are the ones from original install. The workspace I set up is also gone. I have every explorer box and cleaner checked to save recent. Had to disable nivedia desktop software because of weird display conflict. Have Dell pro support and they cannot fix. Any ideas to help me with this would be appreciated.

    Self-solved!  I work in column view in Finder so get there in a Finder window with folders and files appearing.
    There really is no problem, just select an ITEM in the COLUMN before right-clicking!
    The "old" context menu will appear. If you click in the white space in that column (or anywhere in a Finder window) and then place the cursor over a folder or file WITHOUT selecting it and right-click you will bring up the secondary context menu - Open, Copy, Duplicate, View Options and a greyed out Labels option. No "Move to Trash".

  • I have selected to have photos in my icloud but the photo folder does not appear.

    I have selected to have photos in my icloud but the photo folder does not appear in icloud. There are many folders, like mail, but none for photos.

    You can see photo stream photos on icloud.com.  You can only see them on an iOS device or computer that is signed into your account with photo stream enabled.  If you want to see them on the web, you would have to add the photos to a shared stream using the public website option enabled (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmc0cd7e99).  This gives you a private url allowing you to view them from any computer browser.

  • Firefox 4 upgrade how do I reset Yahoo toolbar as its does not appear in dropdown VIEW list? Also Norton Internet Security 2011 does not flag up safe/unsafe sites on browser. Help

    Just upgraded to Firefox 4. My Yahoo toolbar has disappeared and I can't work out how to reset it as it does not appear in the View drop-down list. Also NIS 2011 no longer flags up safe/unsafe sites when browsing.
    Thanks

    For the Yahoo toolbar, make sure you have the latest version that is compatible with Firefox 4, available from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yahoo-toolbar
    Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have indicated that for Norton 360 they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
    I do not know about the time scale for updates for other Norton products. Pending the update by Symantec, if you want to use the Norton add-ons you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.
    To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
    You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
    To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
    For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • REPORTS folder does not appear when refreshing dynamic templates

    Hi all,
    I got one issue when refreshing dynamic templates. For one application, the REPORTS folder does not appear under Eexcel folder.
    It works well on my quality environment, but it fails on production server.
    It seems there is no differences in security settings, SP version...
    I already tried deleting Outlooksoft folder, clear and refresh local folder in client options...
    I must miss something but I dont know what to check anymore.
    Any suggestion is welcome.
    Thanks
    Antoine

    Hi Neil,
    I do not have issue with what you mention, everything is ok in Webfolder.
    The problem is in the local folder of every user in My Documents folder.
    There is a folder Outlooksoft there that is refreshed automatically after connecting to BPC.
    Every reports under REPORTS\WIZARDS should be there. Users need to access this folder to open a specific report.
    What is strange is that it looks that it works for some users, but does not work for some other users...
    Might be security settings?

  • Saving photos to the web by creating events. Called the destination folder does not exist.

    Hello,
    I ask you for advice (assistance). A week ago I re-installed the PC and installed to the computer again Photoshop CS5. hi,
    i don't know if i integrate your code correctly, but it doens't work for me. I presently create skin for client and this plugin is really usefull for me.
    i use win7 64bit home edition, and photoshop cs5
    there is how i integrate this :
    // EDIT ALEX GRENIER
    function getPreferencesFolder() {
         var userData = Folder.userData;
         if (!userData || !userData.exists) {
              userData = Folder("~");
         var folder = new Folder(userData + "/xtools");
         if (!folder.exists) {
              folder.create();
         return folder;
    function exportChildren(dupObj, orgObj, dupDocRef, folder) {
    if (getCSVersion() >= 10) // CS3 Only
         // Create assets folder in Flex app's directory
         // var tempFolder;
         // tempFolder = new Folder (folder + "/assets/");
         // tempFolder.create();
         // EDIT ALEX GRENIER
         var tempFolder;
         tempFolder = getPreferencesFolder();
    i put the code creating the folder in comment and put your code in place, i also put your function before the function creating file.
    With the base code (without modification) photoshop is able to create my folder assets, but when it try to export the png, it export nothing, so i have a empty folder.
    thank you,
    Alex

  • File or Folder does not exist

    I'm having a wierd problem with a png image which generates an error in my script.
    I'm building a UI using the group constructor, here is the line code I'm using to load the image:
    myImg:Image{text:'',image:'(image_folder)/image.png', alignment:['left','top']}
    The script runs with one image but not another one which is also a png of the same dimensions, bit depth etc. For some reason I get the 'file or folder does not exist' error message. If I replace the image with a known good one the script works.
    I've re-generated the image a dozen times. Still no joy.
    I'm not a total noob, though I infrequently write scripts and am completely prepared to learn I've made totally maverick error.
    Any thoughts?

    myImg:Image{text:'',image:'(image_folder)/image.png', alignment:['left','top']}
    I'm assuming that "(image_folder)" is a placeholder or variable and you are concatinating for the file path to the image? When checking file paths for images or what not, I usually try...
    alert(File.decode(File.openDialog()));
    ...to verify that my path is correct. Sometimes there's a extra slash or something I am missing.
