Applications hang, don't open, and/or force shutdown CONSTANTLY

I just updated my regular ol' panther computer to the sexy new tiger this week. I am having issues now, as the the new OS is suprisingly unstable. Often, applications will all of a sudden hang, meaning the color wheel starts to spin constantly to no avail. i notice when this happens, I can still do somethings, like close other apps, but I cannot click on the apple menu on the upper left hand corner of the screen. Also, when I click the restart/shut down button (on the upper right hand corner of my keyboard/computer) the shut down options come up, but once I click on shut down, or restart, teh color wheel acts up in that window and I can't shut down.
another similar problem I have is when I click some applications open, they will just bounce in the dock and not open. this makes me sad. this usually happens when other programs are open, and not when i just start up.
I am frustrated, and I wonder if my nortion personal firewall(3.1) is causing this, as these crazy things started happening after that.
question one - is it the firewall? would that make the OS unstable as it is? should i just revert to the innate and native firewall provided in the security options, even if the firewall is not a problem?
should I get more RAM? is this the source of my problem? i have the minimum for the OS, 256 MB.
what else could be wrong? i have considered throwing my laptop out the window also. I switched over from mac to pc and now back to mac, and was quite content with the old operating system, but now I'm slightly dissapointed.

Symantec products are poison for OS X. Alhough some use Norton Antivirus 10.0 with Tiger, even NAV is not without its share of problems.
You don't need Norton Personal Firewall since OS X includes a built-in Firewall which is substantial and 2nd to none. I would remove NPW and any other Symantec products from the hard drive and be sure to use the uninstall feature included on the install disc and check Symantec's website for any updates to the uninstall feature for the product and for proper removal instructions if the uninstall feature fails.
How did you install Tiger - Simple Upgrade or Archive & Install? If you installed using the Archive & Install method selecting preserve user and network settings, have you deleted the archived previous system folder after confirming all user and network settings and data were successfully transferred to the new system?
What is your hard drive capacity and available free space?
256MB of RAM is a minimum for Tiger and OS X loves RAM. You should install as much RAM as your computer will accept or your budget will allow. I wouldn't run Tiger with less than 512MB of RAM and 1GB is even better.
Check Problems from Insufficient RAM and Free Hard Disk Space.
In addition, check Tuning Mac OS X Performance.
Something that may help immediately - check Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided.

Adobe Application Manager Won't Open and CC Desktop failed to install

I am running Win 7 Ultimate. Adobe Application Manager Won't Open and CC Desktop failed to install on my computer after I signed up for Adobe CC tonight. I am currently using the CS5 suite (perpetual license) and do not want to uninstall any of the programs until I am successfully running the Adobe CC versions. The AAM gives me an error message saying that it failed to open when I select it, and the creative cloud installer fails to install. I have tried restarting my computer. Help? This is very frustrating. I am a student and use this software on a daily basis, and can't afford to not have these programs available when I need them.

From the admin account, try a Safe Mode boot ..
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
Then login to the affected user account.

Application hangs when using ProcessStartInfo and Process.WaitForExit.

I've looked on different threads about this, but all of them uses the Process.RedirectStandardOutput = True, which I don't.
I'm trying to open a process (console application, not made by me) to make it compile a special .acs file to a .o file. The structure is simple, the only argument is the file you want to compile.
But on certain files my application hangs when trying to open the process. Here's my code:

Have you compared the FileNames and Arguments of ones that work and ones that don`t? Is there any difference in them such as the ones that work do not contain blank spaces in the FileName or arguments and the ones that do work don`t contain blank spaces
in them? If you find that to be the problem then you need to add Quotes to the beginning and end of the FileName or Arguments.
My first guess is the Arguments needs the Quotes like this because, i see blank spaces in your example of the Arguments.
ps.Arguments = Chr(34) & SavePath & Chr(34)
If you say it can`t be done then i`ll try it
This actually made it. I had forgotten that blank spaces makes it a new argument, silly me. I don't use process arguments that often. ;)

Same Problem: Safari wont open and it Force to quit.

I have the same problem with Safari, just like other users.
When I start up my iMac Safari dont open and the rainbow circle appear; it forces to quit.

I tried that link to access your crash report, but it's nor working properly.
Try this... if you haven't got another user account, create one. The reason for doing this... if you log into a different account, you might be able to use Safari that way.
Adding a new user account to your computer
You can create individual user accounts for each person who uses your computer. Each new user has a separate home folder and can adjust his or her own preferences without affecting other users.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Click Add + and type the user's name.
If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.
Click Parental Controls and select options to determine what the user can do with the computer.
If you change your mind while you're creating a new user account, click Delete - to cancel.
This way we'll know whether this issue effects the whole system, or just your home folder.

Playbook opens and closes apps randomly, constantly

I have a 32gig playbook that all of a sudden has gone haywire. The screen goes nuts like someone is inside playing around, apps open and close randomly to the point I can't do anything. I've tried reseting, 3 button reset, managed to do a security wipe but nothing helps. It does it if its plugged in charging or not, I've looked through a few posts and this seems to happen for time to time but very few people have posted any solution. I will try to reinstall the OS when I get home but with the thing going haywire I'm not sure I can get it to connect to do that. Is there any solution to this? What caused it?

Here is the procedure. Read it over first, then do it.
You need to follow these instructions to "debrick" your PlayBook:
1. Do a backup of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software version 7 installed. It can be downloaded from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
2. After the backup is finished, unplug the PlayBook and on the PlayBook press and hold down the power button until the unit forces the device off.
3. With the Desktop Software still open on your computer and the PlayBook powered off, connect the PlayBook to your computer once again.
4. You should see an error screen from Desktop Software popup with the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
Very quickly choose the Update option.
5. All information will on your PlayBook will be erased and a reload of the Software will commence to install on the PlayBook.
6. Once this is complete your PlayBook will go back through the initial (as if new) setup wizard (entering the BlackBerryID, etc., and then you can perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your personal data from the backup. Applications which you downloaded from AppWorld won't restore, but they can be easily reinstalled using AppWorld > MyWorld section of AppWorld.

Is there a way to force applications to use window opening (and closing) animations?

I'm not a big fan of the fact that most of the time, when windows open, they don't display any sort of animation, and pretty much nothing has a closing animation.
Is there any way to force all apps to use some sort of animations, and also, is there a way to enable window closing animations?
It just kind of bothers me, probably because of that fact that I just abandoned Windows 8 for OS X.

Those are left and right double curly quotes.
Yes, you have to hit each instance, but it will be click-to-continue except on mismatch.

All iwork application are slow to open and crash

Hello,
I have just bought the latest iMac together with iWork09 (in the dvd box)
I did not encounter any problem with installation of iWork but
when I open either keynote, numbers or pages, it takes ages before the application opens.
In fact the imac goes into endless loop. I see the circle coloured pointer for minutes and i have to force the exit
I have also tried to delete the iwork09 folder and installed it again.
I have the same problem.
What shall I do?

As Badunit said, your system likely isn't updated even though it is brand new. There are two things to do that solve a lot of problems with the iWork ’08 &/or ’09 apps in Snow Leopard.
First, use the Mac OS 10.6.4 combo updater. This fixes a problem with fonts that is not fixed using the delta update (10.6.1 > 10.6.2). You can apply the combo update even though your system is already on 10.6.4.
Second, make sure your iWork applications are updated. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.4 & Numbers 2.0.4. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
Also, deleting the program's preference list is the #1 trouble-shooting step with any misbehaving application. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences, delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist, empty the Trash & then restart Pages. Repeat with Numbers & Keynote. This needs to be done for each user.

Applications hang when using open/save dialog box

Anyone else experiencing this? Mail, Safari, Lightroom, iTunes, etc...they all hang big time (several minutes) when I try open/save.

Do you have any network drives or shared computers? I see this on occasion, too, and suspect it has to do with OSX needing to find all the possible places you might want to specify, and put them in the dialog.
You might look in your logs (via the Console app in Applications/Utilities) just after this happens. Some clues may be lurking there.

The the applications and links open as if somebody is browsing. I can't open a page and remain in it for more than one minute. I did reset but no improvement.

The UI 200% box should be unchecked by default, but may be someone else has used your computer?

As for your LR crashing, there are a couple of things you could try.
1. Restart your computer, and do not launch any programs. Sign out of the CC desktop app, then sign in. Now try running LR.

2. If this doesn't help, go to Preferences > Performance, and uncheck Use Graphics Processor.
If this helps, update your graphics driver: Update the graphics driver | Windows 8, 7, Vista
Now try turning the Graphics Processor back on. If you still get crashes, just leave it off.

My Macbook with 10.6.8 is having trouble with certain applications- Word will not open, and text edit or pdf will not print.

My Macbook (13 inch 2008) running OS 10.6.8 is having trouble with some applications. Word will not even open. I cannot print from text edit or Preview or Adobe. Excel sometimes opens but very slow. What could be wrong? I have repaired permissions, used an antivirus program, deleted some old MS fonts, and still no change. I have 1 G RAM and there seems to be plenty available and I have 50 G of hard drive space empty.

Well, first 1gb of Ram is not plenty. It's the absolute bare minimum just to run OS X 10.6.8. The MS Office applications are ram hogs also. I would recommend three things.
1. Get more ram.
2. Reinstall and update your MS Office applications.
3. Reinstall Snow Leopard.
If you're not familiar with Activity Monitor you might have a look at this link and you'll be able to judge your ram situation a little better.

My iPhone 5C on lock mode, when i normally lock it after using , go on dark mode, like coma, and i need to click on main button and lock button in order to restart and open it again.
the day before yesterday i did to it a full factory reset with fresh copy of IOS 7.1.2 without recover any backup, it works normally and that's make me happy, until today the same thing return to it, the screen turn on dark, I try to open it by lock button without any result, so i click on main button and lock button in order to restart and open again.
Now i put Auto-Lock(never) so its open without any problem!
That's so weird!!

Yesterday i do reset all settings, then download just Instagram so the device worked normally then download whatsapp and viber and its works normally untill today morning, i found it turn off the screen on dark and try to open it without any result , so i do restart by click on main button and lock button so its Open!
Now i Removed all Apps(Instagram , Viber , WhatsApp) and do Reset All Settings and tried many things like put on Air-Plane Mode, TurnOff Wifi, TurnOff PassCode Without any result the problem keep on happn!!
Now i put it without lock (Auto-Lock(never)) its work normally and the hang or black screen do not return back!
What Can i do?
