Applications have disappeared!

I woke my G5 PowerMac from sleep and found my application folder to be almost empty. All the Apple applications--mail, safari, addressbook, iTunes,etc,third party apps like Photoshop CS, WeathermanX, DxO Optics, Microsoft Office,etc. are missing from my applications folder. The utilities folder is empty except for disk warrior. My pictures seem to be present and my home folder seems unaffected. I ran disk warrior, it fixed some issues but the applications were still missing. I threw out the preference file, user/library/preference/apple.systempref. plst and still no applications. I booted from my Tiger install disc, ran disc repair, (disc utility on the G5 is not there anymore), it found a lot of problems and repaired them but the applications are still missing. I ran sbin/fsck from the terminal on my Tiger install disc and got the message "-bash-2.05b#".
I'm sure the directory is messed up but I don't know how to repair it. Any help would be much appreciated.
Incidently, I my system preferences seem to work normally. The only applications present are a demo of Adobe Lightroom, neo-office and a few others

I tried the commands and got 'no directory found'. Starting the computer holding the command + s key I was able to start in terminal. I ran /sbin/fsck -fy and the response was the hard drive is ok.
I'm still not sure how you get two lines of commands as recommended in the
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
When I typed the entire line including 'killall Finder' I got an unrecognized command. I never got a real answer from my query, the computer either said unrecognized command or directory not found.
The command 'ls/Applications'... responded with no directory exists.
I've run disc warrior again and it found no problems. Could a file in the directory have been corrupted or renamed with out my input? Would Tinker Tool help reveal hidden files?

For ichat even the icon is gone, where as photobooth has that white circle with a diagonal line through it and when i click on it, it says that the application is unable to open due to it being damaged or incomplete. When I try to do timeline it tells me it hasn't been set up and I do not have the original disks since I've moved a few times since I've gotten this computer. It also wont update. It keeps telling me that the updates have failed to install or whatever. So what do I do?

Upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion, applications have disappeared?

After upgrading from old OS, all my applications such as Logic Express 9 and Final Cut Express have dissapeared.
Also, when I search for things they don't appear in finder.
Any help?

I've never heard of that one... How did you upgrade, was it a straight upgrade or an erase and install?
Are Logic and Final Cut are no longer in your Application folder, or have lost their association with the Dock?
Also, are the items you're searching for on still on your Mac and just unable to use search in Finder, or have they also disappeared?

Applications have disappeared after personalising home screen

I hope someone can help...
My intention was for my little one to have their games easily available and other all other icons in 2 folders.
I moved all the upper icons from the top frame (mail, contacts, internet browser etc) into 1 of the folders......
I then thought.... I will move the 2 folders into the upper frame, giving a seperation so all games are in the lower frame.
This is when I got an error message (I didn't note what it was---errr) and then sadly, my folder and it's contents disappeared. Within this is App World, Set up, mail, contacts etc etc.
Can anyone help as to how I might be able to retrieve them or how to do a factory restore......

Nobody is quite sure why this happens but there may be a limit to how many icons you can cram into the top dock area. There have been stated in the past ways to get them back, (you could search the forum) but if the icons are nowhere to be seen, and a simple restart does not fix it, then maybe a factory reset is quicker.
If you have important data that needs backing up you need to do that by connecting to a PC or Mac with the relevant Desktop Software installed and do the backup (media data only) command.
Then the factory reset is in Playbook's Settings (gear wheel icon) then Security then Security Wipe. Make sure you know your current Blackberry ID and Password as it will take you right through the same setup routine that you used when it came out of the box.
Restore data only (Media) as if you restore all it may reinstall the chaos. Then reinstall the apps from App World (My World uninstalled list) and they will all be free provided you use the same Blackberry ID. Reinstall email accounts etc.

Applications have disappeared from folder in Finder

I can still use all of the applications from the bar menu but when I go to finder and open the 'applications' folder it is empty! Where did my applications go and how do I put them back? New to mac...help!

It could be that you're looking in the wrong folder.
If, by "bar menu", you mean the icons at the bottom or side of the screen, that's the Dock, and you can locate your applications by right-clicking (or ctrl-clicking, if you have a one-button mouse) on an icon and selecting "Show in Finder". A new Finder window will open to the location of the application. From there, you can click on the icon with the three horizontal lines at the top of this window, and see the path to this folder (eg, mine says "Applications", then "Macintosh HD", then "MyComputer", indicating that the path is
computer > HD > Applications
(which is normal). Sometimes, especially if your user is not an administrator user, applications will install themselves into your own user's Applications folder, which is at
computer > HD > Users > youruser > Applications

Several applications have disappeared

Hi, I left my Mac on for a couple of hours last night, and went downstairs to use the iBook. The G5 upstairs was online, and all apps etc were there. When I came up later, I found 6 question marks in the dock, and when I clicked on the first one, the icon reappeared, and the app also appeared, and is fully functional. The other five, no such luck. I have searched for the apps, both manually, and via spotlight, and they are no longer on my machine, or cannot at least be found.
1. What is the problem here?
2. How can I resolve it?

While I have no idea what happened, if the apps were in you Applications folder the first thing to try is launch Terminal (from your Utilities folder) and do a list all, long form command:
ls -al /Applications
hit return, then examine the list to see if they are there. If they don't show up in the Terminal list, try booting up from your install disk and run Repair Disk, and, just for luck, Repair Permissions.

In Windows 7 I mistakenly un-installed Adobe Application Manager and all applications (CS3E, CS5 and Elements 6) have disappeared from programs on the start menu

WIN7: Mistakenly un-installed Adobe Application Manager and now all Adobe apps (CS3, CS5 and Elements 6) have disappeared from the programs list in the start up menu.
CS5 Bridge is still there so I can get into the photo editor to de-activate it and re-install.
However, all of CS3 has disappeared so I cannot get into it to de-activate.
Question 1: Will downloading and re-installing Adobe Application manager get CS3 automatically back?
Question 2: If not, what to do to get CS3 back things working properly again? Remember, I can't de-activate it.

Don't worry about activation unless you are installing on a new and different machine. Simply reinstall in order. It should all work.
Then install any updates. Product updates
After that, let me know how it went and if there are any further questions.

All the applications that I recently downloaded have disappeared

I installed a number of applications on my IMAC, then rebooted the computer, and the applications had all disappeared.

Not at all, and should never happen.
Having an application's icon disappear from the Dock is not uncommon, and is easily fixed; but having the application itself disappear is not at all common.
If you still have the installers, re-install them. Applications installed using an installer will almost always be placed into the Applications folder, the one visible when the icon for the hard drive is first opened.
However, applications installed via a different mechanism, such as by drag-and-drop or by copying, may end up elsewhere.

there is no update from 5.5. to 6.0.
you could have upgraded from 5.5 to 6.0, but you would know that because you paid money.
assuming you paid no money for a 6.0 upgrade, you still have your 5.5 license. uninstall clean and reinstall 5.5 per http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

One possible reason is have you synced to your computer's iTunes recently ? If so then it might have replaced the books that were on your iPad with those that are on your computer's iTunes library.
You should be able to re-download them via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app, or via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes and then sync them back to the iPad : re-downloading. If you re-download them directly on your iPad then you may want to copy them to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases, so that you have a backup copy of them and to see if it stops them disappearing from the iPad again when you sync (assuming that was the reason why they disappeard).

Hi macmac57. I don't memorize my numbers anymore, so I know how important it is to have all your contacts on your phone at all times. Did an update occur or a new application download when your contacts disappeared? Have you been backing up your device with your computer? You can try to restore your contacts from your last backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Are you syncing your iPhone between multiple computers? This can sometimes create issues with your contacts. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1474

Windows 7; Printers Have Disappeared; Printer Spooler won't stay running.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium and an Epson Stylus Photo R220 printer. I also had a few virtual printers (ie: Snagit) installed before the problems started.
All of the printers (from my Devices and Printers) have disappeared, except for a generic "USB Printer" selection that shows it is my Epson R220. I can't print to it, and when I try to print a document and try to "Add Printer", a warning pops up saying "Can't
Add Printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." I've tried both with no success.
Sometimes, when I try to start the Print Spooler, I get a message "Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." or it starts and just stops again.
I have also tried reinstalling the driver for my printer as specified from Epson's website, but the installer can't detect my printer, and if I try manually finding the port, nothing comes up, which I find odd since my computer recognizes when the printer
is attached.
Lastly, and I'm hoping it's not connected although I think it likely is, last night my computer had troubles starting Windows. So I did as it directed and I loaded my Windows CD into the computer and had it "Repair the problem". After several minutes, Windows
booted fine again.
Now I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows, as that will remove all of my program files, so I'm hoping that's not the only solution. Any ideas?

I have wrestled with this issue on a client's computer for a few days now and I am coming to the conclusion that a Windows Update (do not know which one) has caused the problem.
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit installation
Printers disappeared from Devices and Printers and from the list of printers within applications. A reboot does nothing and there is a DCOM error that occasionally pops up, but the client has only seen it and I don't know the specifics.
Any attempt to start the Print Spooler gives me a 1053 error, which is "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
Doing a NET START SPOOLER from a command prompt gives me "The service is not responding to the control function."
As a last resort I did an in-place upgrade of Windows 7 (run setup on the installation DVD from Windows - not from boot - and choose the upgrade option. All Windows system files are restored and user information is left in tact.)
This completely solved the problem. After doing this, however, the Windows Updates need to be brought up to date, so I went through the updating process. 15 minutes after I left, the client called me and said his printers were gone again.
I have come back today to figure this out and after trying a couple more things I decided to do a System Restore, the last of which was created before the installation of Windows Updates. After running restore, the system rebooted and all printers
were there and the spooler was running normally.
Because I thought there was some other issue, I again ran Windows Update to bring back the same updates I had done before.
Guess what? No printers, spooler not working.
I am now going to restore again to before the 64 windows updates that installed and turn off the automatic update function until Microsoft figures out what is wrong and comes up with a patch.
This is what I believe the problem is. I am going to look at the list of updates and check to see if Microsoft did a DCOM update, because that might be the problem, since DCOM is a dependency of the spooler and because there was some kind of DCOM error.
