Applications in suddenly quiting without warning
lately, the applications that i use especially photoshop keeps on crashing without warning, i just see the beachball for a minute, then it will crash, without the warning window that says, "the application quit unexpectedly, etc" i was just wondering, why is this happening? is there something wrong with the hardware? (i hope not), photoshop quits several times without warning, azureus quits once, i don't know what is happening, i hope that this is not a hardware problem... thanks
i hope somebody can help me....

Recently Safari has been quitting without warning. I often (almost always) have several tabs open. I have the report, it says something about it may be the flash player 10.4-10.5. I have checked the website for updates and it says I have the latest version. I have Plug-in version 10.3.183.20 installed. I'm not sure what to do, but this is very frustrating. If anyone can help that would be great! And, of course, I closed the window with the report by accident. I have OS X 10.5.8 if that makes a difference. I have run software update on the computer. Thank you!!
Thank you! I didn't know I could retrive the crash report after closing it!

All apps close or quit without warning
Hi All,
I am experiencing an issue in which all apps running close without warning.
Scenario:
I'm working away with 5-6 open apps: Photoshop, Mail, Messages, Safari and Firefox etc. Withourt warning the iMac cycles through and closes all apps and other things like the Wacom Tablet driver. There are no unexpected quit messages. Everything just closes within maybe a second or two as if I intentionally shut them down except all open docs just close - no warning. The screen looks like it's flickering or more likely it's just cycling throug the apps as they close. It happens so fast it's hard to tell. This has happened three times in the last month.
The question is how do I diagnose? I suspect that it might have to do with a USB or Thunderbolt hub that I'm running but how in the world could I tell? I can't work without them and there's no way to work in safe mode for a month. Any thoughts?
iMac

Thanks!!
CraigHi Linc, It happened again. I'm pretty sure it's in the console log below. Sorry for the long post. There were a lot of messages in a few seconds!

Is it possible to disable escape command that is quiting without warning?
When I press in Camera Raw 7.3 escape key, picture is quiting without any warning or saving changes.
Is it possible to disable escape command in ACR ?
thanks in advance

Come on! Could you tell me any professional application, that discards all your work after you have pressed just one key?…
Any application, whether professional or otherwise, that uses modal dialog boxes follows the universal convention where the Escape key equals hitting the CANCEL button in the modal dialog box.
Remember that ACR is just a plug-in, and the way that plug-in is designed is to work through a single modal box with multiple tabs and settings.
Petrbr9 wrote:
…In some applications Esc is rolling out the last action but not the whole work…
…and there is your answer: until you hit either Done, Open or Save in the ACR modal dialog box, you have not applied any action to your work at all, you have just been looking at the preview when you manipulate the sliders and fields in the various tabs.
It's no different than calling up a filter in Photoshop, say a noise-reduction filter, and hitting the Escape key before applying the settings to the image after fiddling with the sliders.
My advice remains to keep in mind ACR is a modal dialog box and stop hitting the Escape key before applying your settings to the image. It is that simple. After all, the darned Escape key is physically located way out in the back of left field on the keyboard for that reason.

HP Pavilion g6 Notebook - Sudden shutdowns without warning when battery is low
My notebook is only ten months old. Within the last week, it started shutting down unexpectedly when the battery was low (but not at a critical level). If I try to restart it, there won't be a response until I plug in the adaptor cord. Usually there will be around 20% of my battery left when my computer is booted up after such a shutdown, so I don't think it's because of my battery being low. (Besides, when I've accidentally used my laptop until it has to hibernate, the light next to the port for the adapter cord usually blinks to tell me it's the battery.)
Initially I thought it was a problem with overheating, so I cleaned my vents and bought an external laptop cooler when it first shut down unexpectedly two weeks ago. However, the shutdowns have become more frequent since then. I've run the Memory Diagnostic Tool, the HP Battery Check, and updated my BIOS. No problems have come up; in fact, everything seems to be running perfectly. I also ran AVG and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. No problems there either.
What could be the problem? Thanks for any help!
Product name: HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC
Product number: A1J18AV
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1Mines started doing exactly the same! Its just 12 months old though and hardly ever gives me a low battery warning. Then it will turn off without shutting down the proper way. When I plug in and turn back on, the battery says its at 20-25%
Is there actually a solution to this and whats causing it?..because if it's the battery then **bleep**..they don't last long. -
Cameras stopped working suddenly and without warning...
So I've been using myPlaybook for months without issue, going from one OS upgrade to the next without problems and all the while using both built-in cameras. Took photos with it just two days ago. Turned it on as normal this morning and now neither camera functions. I get the black screen and when I tap on the icon to take a picture, it tells me the camera is use by another application. Front or backcamera, doesn't matter. It's the same. I've wiped it, reinstalled OS, 2.0 and 2.1, same thing. This is a known issue and a KB article exists with noknown resolution at this time. Is there a fix for this? My Playbook is out of warranty now. This sounds very much like a software issue. Do I really need go call RIM and send it in?
MerrillSince you tried security wipe and still the problem is present, I think you should call RIM and have them look at the device. There might be a physical problem w/ the device's camera. (Indeed a known issue)

Labview 8 Crashes without warning
Hello All,
Have any Labview 8 users out there experienced the package suddenly crash without warning?
I've had it happen several times now (at least twice in one month ....with approx 5hrs day/5day/week usage).
Last time it happened I was simply moving components around in a very simple VI when it suddenly exited without warning (i.e. all Labview tasks disappeared.....and I lost my work!)
The problem doesn’t seem to be specific to any one particular VI or its contents. I can’t reproduce the problem either.
Needless to say, I've not any other app. crash the same way on this PC. (Brief System Summary below)
Typically, I only have 2-3 other apps running (e.g. Outlook, Windows Explorer etc) when it happens.
When you restart Labview, it warns that it didn't close properly last time & points you in the direction of the log file.
I've posted one sample log file to NI, but they couldn't explain the cause (simply suggested de-installing, re-installing or, installing on another PC)
I have de-installed & reinstalled ....but yesterday, the problem occurred yet again.
Will try on another PC …..if/when I get spare time!
Anyone else with similar experiences??
Regards all,
Paul Towle.

The suggestions so far seem quite reasonable. It would be interesting if this problem is reproduceable on another machine. Perhaps you could attach the log file for the next occurance and keep us informed about whether it is occuring on another PC. Did you encounter any problems during installation of LV8, perhaps something wrong with the installation file, scratch on cd? I gather LabVIEW crashes when in the development environment and not necessarily during runtime of your VI? Are you performing any data acquisition or doing any kind of instrument control? Please ensure you stick to the recomended software installation order i.e. LabVIEW first and then Drivers. It would be nice to know what the CPU / other resource usage is like at the time it crashes, although probably not doable because difficult to predict the next crash. It is a good idea to monitor which applications are open at the same time and monitor their activity but will inevitably be difficult to track if there is any conflict. Does LabVIEW slow down before the crash ... or is it a instantanous and unexpected?

G4 going dark or shutting down without warning.
I have a G4 that has been experiencing a problem sporadically, one which only seems to occur when it is running on battery power.
While in use (under battery power), one of two things happens:
1. The screen goes dark. The only way to get the screen to light up again is to close the shell and re-open or, sometimes, restart the whole computer.
2. A bigger problem: The computer suddenly and without warning shuts down completely. When this happens, I usually have to physically remove the battery from the machine and put it back in order to get the machine to start again.
This is an ongoing problem that seems to be getting worse. I reset the Power Unit a while back, but that doesn't seem to have solved the problem.
Any suggestions? Thanks.Hello all, I have a thread going in the "Power, Battery & Your iBook G4" section of discussions. Same deal, my iBook only quits when I'm on battery power, the problem started much like mentioned above, and increased. I've sent my iBook back under the extended coverage twice and each time it came back with a message saying they couldn't duplicate the problem; and yet the problem continues.
I've been asked to do many tests at home, all prove fruitless, and yet sometimes I just move the computer from in front of me on the table and it shuts down. Not just once a month, week, but it shuts down several times a day! Many times in the middle of following a research trail in Safari!
Why do I have to run these diognostic tests if they should have been done one of the two times Apple had the computer in for repair?
Is there a clearing section for discussions to see how many of us are having the same problem. Perhaps now is the time to consolidate at Apples end and give us a definitive answer: Reair our iBooks or give us new ones. Thanks, Charlie -
Hello. I posted this in another forum but this seems more appropriate: My powerbook is having problems that seem to be either related to Mac OS X kernel problems or battery problems.
The battery runs for a good two and a half hours, but claims to still have 87% power. Suddenly, the computer sleeps with no warning. When I wake it, the battery says 0% and a grey box appears saying I have to hold down the power button and restart. If I am in the middle of working, I lose that data.
Upon restarting, I get this as part of the report:
Unresolved kernel trap(cpu 0): 0x300 - Data access DAR=0x00000000217C3DB0 PC=0x00000000002FE1B8

There is more but I am baffled. I've tried resetting the PRAM and resetting the Power Manager by pressing the button under the keyboard. I don't know why the battery would claim to be 87% charged (confirmed by coconutBattery) when it appears to be empty. And I don't know why it suddenly crashes without warning. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!Hi, arvin. The "abrupt crash," when it happens and doesn't lead to a KP, is not really a crash, but just the Powerbook putting itself to sleep due to a low battery. That's normal, although of course there should be a low-battery warning message a few minutes before it happens. The disappearance of the low-battery warning is a classic symptom of a very old, tired battery or one that hasn't been calibrated properly — but your battery isn't very old and tired if it's still giving you 2.5 hours of working time. Thus the suggestion to recalibrate. If that isn't helping with the false battery-charge readout problem, I can only surmise that it's because the KPs you've suffered have disrupted the orderly conduct of battery-related business.
I think the mouse-related KP is a separate problem, even if it has consequences for the battery-related problem. There are still, after all these years of USB-equipped computers, many USB devices that just don't "get" system sleep: they either foul it up or are fouled up by it, or both. I'm surprised to hear of a MacAlly product that seems to be in that category, but that's what it sounds like to me. Have you described the problem to MacAlly's tech support people? If not, see what they have to say. -
CRASH REPORT
Product: Adobe Photoshop CC
Application running on:
Apple iMac 3.5GHz late 2013 / Mavericks 10.9.2
Application crashes without warning. Symptom: Drop down boxes go blank white (I shot screen captures of blank drop down boxes) and application stops working, actions for appox. 10 minutes preceding crash are lost. Force Quit required to quit unresponsive / frozen application and then Restart of Adobe Photoshop CC
Crash Frequency: Three time in this work day, 5.6.14 Once a day sporadically (approximately 10 times) in past two weeks.
Other applications running at time of crashes: Adobe Bridge - NOT effected. Computer was on line with no browsers open.
Otherwise computer continued to operate normally.
I have been using Adobe Photoshop CC for approximately two months. Thanks, Chris,
I hope that this is the solution.
re: "And a crash report without an actual crash report (a long, detailed text document available from the crash report dialog), is not all that useful" :
I did in deed submit a homemade crash report.
I would have submitted "an actual Crash Report " and sooner, but: When this event occurs. there are NO dialog boxes. All frozen / blank. No possibility of "actual crash report" !
Thank you! -
So my iPad is suddenly quitting its applications constantly. Applications it quits out of most are Safari, Mail, and iBooks. Mail started being sluggish to respond about a week ago but it seemed to be an irregular problem.
Now all of those Apps are quitting. Only apps I downloaded recently were Popular Mechanics magazine and CBS News. Not sure what's happening. In the pursuit of trouble shooting I turned off the wifi (which is not connected when this mostly happens) and the 3G. I was able to keep iBooks open 35 minutes straight. With communications on it seems to quit in 2-10 minutes. I've also rebooted the iPad a few times. That's not the issue.
Anyone else have an experience with this or is this unique so far?
Message was edited by: CoolridgeWhen you see an app starting to work sluggishly or in ways that just don't seem quite right, the recommended first step is usually to 'force quit' that app. How and when to do that, along with much additional guidance, is found in the sections mentioned in the following boilerplate:
+A more or less standard sequence of steps is laid out in your User's Guide which you should follow in those cases when either your iPad or an installed app isn't behaving as it should. They sort of mirror 'The Three R's (Restart, Reset, & Restore)' used for iPod troubleshooting, with a few extra iPad-specific things added in to the list.+
+These generic steps are laid out and explained in the Tips & Troubleshooting section of your User's Guide. The directions there will start you out from the quickest and easiest first step, which will often be all you need to do, all the way to the atomic blast fix of totally restoring the iOS and all contents in your iPad. You should also notice that that same section contains a wealth of more specific recommendations for specific apps or situations, and will prove well worth a going-over..+
+You can call AppleCare, and they will probably have you do the same things. Or, you can take it I to a Genius Bar, and they will also go through the same steps. Needless to say, if you work through the whole process without being able to correct your problem, then you've pretty much shot your bolt and will have to start talking to Apple or the app developers for a resolution.+ -

Applications suddenly quits - need an answer please
Hello!
I don't know if I'm the good category for my question by, well, don't know what to do so if somene could help me.
Since about a week, different application suddenly quits when I try to do a task.
As an example, MSN Messenger, I can open it and log in, but if I try to speak with one of my contact, the application quit, with this report: EXC_EXCEPTION BREAKPOINT
Same thing with Acrobat reader, it open, but if I want to print the file, it quit..
Same thing with Safari, I can use it, but sometime it quit, like if I click on an image on a site like eBay to see the item...
Well if somebody have an answer for me, it would be appreciate.
Thank you!Hi karine_l!
Exactly which model Mac G4 is it?
What is the Processor speed?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
Exactly which version of Panther 10.3.x is installed?
What happened between the last time the Mac functioned successfully, and when it didn't?
Have you made any changes, like upgrading the system, updated or installed any applications or programs, etc?
Have you deleted, disabled, or added any Fonts?
Have there been any unusual occurences, like freezes, crashes, power outages, etc?
Have you run Repair Permissions?
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP, until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x, authored by Michael Conniff.
Have you run Repair Disk?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, on the Menubar at the top of the screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number. Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.
8.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
9.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
10.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
11.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.

Compressor 4 crashes on opening keep getting this warning: The application “Compressor” unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again? Tried Restoring windows. It crashes again. Tried not = Same result. This is the first time I've actually used the app although I purchased it back in April (I think). I had my first longform project completed in FCPX and tried sending it to Compressor 4 and got this result over and over again.
Steve,
Sorry to say I've not had any success in getting Compressor 4 to work. I've tried every suggestion mentioned earlier on this topic to no avail. Compressor 4 is dead in the water. On the last two projects I had to go back to Compressor 3.x.xx to complete the projects. The only hint that I have of wha may have happened concerns something I did early on. When I bought this computer I decided to replace the hard drive with a larger one. Since I already had my software up and working on the drive that came with the computer I decided to clone everything to the new larger drive. As I recall, Compressor 4 worked on the original drive but it doesn't work on this cloned version. So maybe there is a relationship there. I haven't had a chance yet to reinstall my old drive and see if C 4 works on it. If it does work then I know the source of the problem but not how to fix it on the new drive. Did you do anything like cloning your drive recently too? It's just a thought and may not lead anywhere but later this week when I catch a break I'll give the old drive a try and will post my results.
Thanks,
Peter -
Classic app changed to epma application without warning
Hi!
I have an application which was initially created as classic planning application. (version 931)
Today when I opened this application I noticed that dimension members were not editable any more, which led me to think that application has "evolved" to an epma application.
I do not remember having upgraded application (have just checked if it was upgradeable, even today it is upgradeable???).
When I browse application library this application is not visible anywhere there. So it seeems that it is not an epma application, but it does not have the classic application features either.
Can I somewhere check whether this application is currenty classic or epma?
Is it possible to copy epma application to classic application using copy app (just wild question...) I think i already know the answer, but has anybody tried?
kind regards,
user637777
Edited by: user637777 on 10.12.2009 5:24Have you eve used the EPMA file generator as I have seen it change the classic settings so it looks to be an EPMA application without warning.
You can revert it back go into the planning system tables.
First look in the HSPSYS_APPLICATION, note down the APP_ID for the planning app in question.
Next go into the table HSPSYS_PROPERTIES, look at column PROPERTY_NAME = EDIT_DIM_ENABLED for the ID you had in the step above, change the PROPERTY_VALUE from false to true.
Restart Planning application service.
Ok?
