Applications/Installation won't show up in Desktop Software

Hello, I'm using a Torch 9860 FW 7.0.0.585 which is connected via Desktop Software 6.1 with a Windows PC (Outlook 2003/XP Prof SP3). This morning I encountered a weird problem. Connecting my BB with my PC I decided to check the installed applications since I updated the FM yesterday evening (via my device software updater).
Great surprise ! Exept some Apps (WhatsApp, a Barcode scanner, GPS Logger) no other apps or FW installations were shown. The day before the whole FW installations an all 3rd paty apps where shown in an neat, long list - now: nothing exept these few apps. I tried to reinstall the Desktop Software und reconnected my device - but to no avail.
Did somebody encounter a similar problem ?
I'm a little bit anxious about changing say the installed language packages or other FW preferences since I know no other way then to use the application button in the desktop software to do this. In the current state this would be impossible.
I would be very grateful for some hints or tips.
M.

If you performed the suggested firmware upgrade, then it won't now be showing in the Applications screen of the Desktop Software. Nothing strange there.

  • Adobe Application Manager Won't Open and CC Desktop failed to install

I am running Win 7 Ultimate. Adobe Application Manager Won't Open and CC Desktop failed to install on my computer after I signed up for Adobe CC tonight. I am currently using the CS5 suite (perpetual license) and do not want to uninstall any of the programs until I am successfully running the Adobe CC versions. The AAM gives me an error message saying that it failed to open when I select it, and the creative cloud installer fails to install. I have tried restarting my computer. Help? This is very frustrating. I am a student and use this software on a daily basis, and can't afford to not have these programs available when I need them.

  • Camera icon won't show up on desktop.

    Transfer 911
Bought a digital picture frame for a present due today.
Want to do a simple transfer of pictures from my iphoto library to the digital card in my nikon camera and then shoot pictures at the party then put in the chip in the Digital photo frame.
I have dragged and dropped from the iphoto library before so I know this works.
I've plugged in both nikon cameras I have but the icon's won't show up on the destop for me to open the card.
Why won't it recognize the cameras of all days-I have to get this done?
    Thanks,
    Mr. McTev

I have a similar problem. Apparently Apple "fixed" the finder so that cameras only appear in iPhoto. This is great for ease of use but terrible for us in the nuts and bolts set.
As was mentioned earlier, go to Disk Utility and see if the camera appears there. If it does, then from the Finder choose "Go to Folder" from the Go menu. Enter "/Volumes" without the quote marks and press enter. This should open a window with the volumes that are connected to your Mac. One of the volumes should be your camera.
At this point you should be able to interact with the camera as if it were a regular disk drive.

  • Ipod won't show up on desktop or in itunes, but disk utility recognizes it

Here's one i've been trying to figure out for a while. i have an old 3g (at least, i think that's what it is...black and white display and clickwheel) ipod that I've only been using as an external hard drive for the last year or two. So, there's only one album on it and the rest of the info is back ups of documents. For whatever reason, when i plug in the ipod using firewire, i get the "do not disconnect" screen on the ipod, and itunes opens. But, the ipod does not show up in itunes or on my desktop (as it should, in disk mode). If i disconnect the ipod, i get the "you disconnected a device without removing it" pop up. One more thing, in Disk Utility, it recognizes my ipod as being there....same if i go into my "about this mac" screen and look under the firewire port. Any suggestions? I don't want to lose the information, if at all possible.

I have the same problem -- my iPod (first-gen nano) says "use iTunes to restore" in several languages, and doesn't do anything. I can see it in disk utililty and in the system profiler USB list. Fine, I think, I'll just load all my music back on after I restore.
Whoops! Apple forgot that if your iPod doesn't show up in iTunes, you can't restore it any more! Even the kbase is out of date, because it tells you (as the final step) to use iTunes to restore the thing on the page about iTunes not recognizing it.
If I reformat in Disk Utility, will my iPod be permanently damaged? Because that's looking like the last thing I'll be able to do, now that Apple has dropped standalone updaters...

  • Hard drive won't show up on desktop even though preferences are correct

I just bought a Toshiba external 1TB USB drive for my wife's macbook air (newest July 2011 version macbook), the drive is powered by the UBS port. The drive paperwork said that it would have to be formatted for mac so I plugged it in and it did not show up on the desktop. I checked the preferences and all of the items were clicked under "General" so it should, I even tried rebooting the mac without success. I then plugged the hard drive into my macbook air (Dec 2010 version) and it showed up on the desktop. I formatted it successfully. I plugged it into my wife's macbook air and it still does not show up on the desktop. I tried multiple USB ports, I know they work and each port powered the drive on. I just tried a second external USB drive I have and it shows up. We macs are both running 10.7.3. Any suggestions?

You can find numerous threads here via a search on the issues/problems with the Toshiba Canvio portable drives with a USB 3.0 connection.
A popular workaround that some have found working is to connect the drive using a USB 2.0 -> USB micro adapter cable. If you examine the slot of the drive itself, it is sectioned into two zones on the cable end. The wider portion is identical to a microUSB connector.
It seems that there is a incompatibility with Toshiba's implementation of the USB 3.0 connection and some Macs.

  • Application Updates Won't Show On iTunes

I have a few applications on my iPhone that show updates in the App-Store... but the updates don't show on iTunes?

Had same problem iPhone 5, iOS 6.0
Tried hard reset with and without signing out of iTunes, but it didn't work.
What did work was signed out of iTunes (don't know if this matters) then "reset all settings".
Settings/General/Reset/Reset all settings. Sign back into App Store.
No need to erase any content.

  • Won't show up on desktop or iTunes

Someone recently gave me an ipod video to fix. It wouldn't turn on. I figured I would replace the battery. Before I did, I plugged it into a firewire wall charger. The battery charged for a few hours and as of writing this has been able to play songs for over an hour.
The ipod charges from the firewire port on my ibook. (A message states that no data can be transferred to the ipod via firewire.)
When plugged into USB cable, the ipod will not even appear on my desktop, disk utility, system profiler, etc. Let alone iTunes.
I am running os 10.4.11 with itunes 9.2. Itunes (and my computer) recognize an ipod NANO through the same ports, OS and cable as I am trying to use with the video. Any help?

Update. It turns out pin 23 of the dock is busted. Firewire charges through alternate pins, which is why it worked on firewire.
THIS PROBLEM IS SOLVED! But it looks like replacing the dock would cost $80.
    Thanks, hope this helps someone!

  • My External Hard Drive and Pen Drives doesn't show up in desktop but shows in finder.

Hi, I've been wondering why my Pen Drives and Hard Drives won't show up in desktop when I plug it in.
Its showing up in finder but I cant seem to solve this problem. help!

    No problem.
    (1) Click on the Finder icon in the Dock.  If your dock is on the bottom of the screen, it is the icon on the far left.
    (2) Now, look at the menu called Finder at the top left of your screen and find "Preferences there". Or, you can just press command-,  (command-comma).
    (3) Anyway, once the Preference window opens select the category "General" from the choices there.  You will see a list of things which you can choose to have displayed on the Desktop.  Make your selections and close the window.

  • Re: Question re use of Toshiba Application Installer

    Hey all.
My model came with Toshiba Software Modem installed, but I've noticed in the Toshiba Application Installer there are a couple of other modem drivers that are a little newer. I installed one of them (Conexant) then uninstalled the Toshiba Software Modem and reboted. When it started, it reinstalled the Toshiba Software Modem by default.
So my question is, is it possible to install and use anything other than my original modem? I'm not even sure if it installed the Conexant. It looked like it did but it doesn't appear in the list of installed programs.
As I said, the Toshiba Software Modem was the original, the other two are Conexant Software Modem Driver and Motorola Modem Driver. I don't know why those other two are even in there if they can't be used with my system.
    L305-S5919; Vista 32 bit
    Thanks!

I read in an article about software modems (Winmodem) that said a newer driver can make a difference.
"Winmodems, unlike hardware modems, have complicated driver software. Driver upgrades can thus make a significant difference to Winmodem performance. If you use a Winmodem, check the manufacturer's Web site to see if you can get a later driver."
I have dial-up and I know it's not going to make a huge difference but I thought it wouldn't hurt to try something different, if possible. The three modem files that are available for my system are listed at the Toshiba website, but the same versions are also available in my Toshiba Application Installer.
I don't really understand software modems. I've got Toshiba Software Modem by Agere, but I don't really know if that's the modem or the driver or both. Do the Toshiba L models even have modem hardware? And I don't get why those other two drivers are in my Toshiba Application Installer and are listed at the website as compatible with my system if they're useless.
Maybe the Agere is the modem and the other two are drivers for it?
In C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSAPINS\COMPS1, there are text files that accompany each modem driver that say, "These drivers are required for your machine to be able to fully utilize the modem."

  • Blackberry Desktop Software 6.1.0.35 fails to launch with "BlackBerry Desktop Software has stopped working"

    OS: Windows 7 32bit
    BB Desktop Manager version: 6.1.0.35
I bought a new notebook a few days ago and tried to install the above software (latest version) from Blackberry's website. The whole thing installed fine but when I tried to launch it after installation, I get the message:
"BlackBerry Desktop Software has stopped working"
I tried the clean uninstall with removal of folders and registry entries, rebooting it, running regsvr32 atl.dll and then reinstalling it and still I have the same problem.
I had experienced a similar issue with my previous computer which I fixed by changing the permission and ownership of two registry keys "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion". But this time round, I found that:
    1) There is no "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion"
    2) I can't find a  "Desktop.log" in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop" but I did find it in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Logs"
    And this what it says:

I have scanned through it and I can't find anything that says "fatal".
Any suggestions? I am at my wits end after combing through this forum and other BB forums for the past few long days and nights.
    HELP!

    Well folks. I've had enough.
The 9780 is a great phone, it's easy to use, practical and dependable. However, the Desktop Manager software has been giving me too many sleepless nights. On two occassions I must add: once at the end of last year when I bought it and only managed to solve it by myself after 4 weeks of trawling through online forums, blogs and other BB help sites and the recent one was last week when I tried to install it on my new Windows 7 notebook.
I know this is not entirely the fault of RIM, Microsoft also has a part to play. But considering the state of technology these days, it shouldn't have to be so difficult. I want a phone and software that makes my life easier and not have to be a slave to it by trying days and nights to solve its problems.
Hence, I have officially decom my phone and gotten an iPhone 4 instead. The switch ain't that difficult for me as I have always been platform neutral. As long it fits my needs, does it job well and doesn't give me too much headache, I'm cool with it.
    Ciao folks!

  • Where can I find the "Blackberry desktop software"???.....

...I have Verizon wireless and it is not listed on either of the discs I received with phone.  i know it is available online to download but before downloading, i get a message stating "Note:If you did not purchase BlackBerry directly from Research In Motion (RIM), please contact your service provider to determine if this software has been authorized for use with your handheld."   I contacted Verizon and they don't seem to know either.  Any help is appreciated.
