Applications not opening after choosing "update all" in itunes

Hi,
Bug :
I downloaded "Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test" by Ookla, and recently noticed that there was an update for this application in itunes. When I went to itunes and chose "update all", the application updated. However after the update I was unable to open ANY third party applications (but was still able to open native applications which initially came with iphone). When i clicked on any of the third party application icons, the screen just blinked.
I deleted one of the third party applications and reinstalled it. After that only this third party application (out of the universe of third party application on my phone) would now work. Then I proceeded to delete Speedtest and reinstall it via itunes. After this ALL third party applications would work, without requiring individual reinstallations.
iphone model : 4s
operating system : iOS 5
Thanks

Hi,
think it's gone beyond that now.
rang apple support and went through the install process (as per last night) but when got to install section of the process, the achive and install option is greyed out and the only option appears to be to erase and install.
as i have photo files that i don't want to lose (my itunes are on my ipod and luckily i backed up my word files) I need to back up data by target disk mode before going ahead.
the applecare man was very sorry that he couldn't help me as i didn't have a second mac handy for this option! am going to have to find a support shop instead now.
i rang again and another guy said that they weren't meant to help non care people, but advised to open in safe mode by holding down shift key but when i did this i got through to a grey screen which started by reading:
'No debugger configured - dumping debug information' before a whole scree of code and ending with 'Panic: We are hanging here...'
All in all doesn't look good. so I'll have to go into the shop. brilliant.
thanks for your help though,
Joe

  • Apple applications not opening after Messenger update

Opening Messenger last night, a box popped up saying that there was a new version to be installed. Alongside this were ticked boxes for 'security' and another application (which I can't remember now).
I went ahead with this, but since restarting the computer I've been unable to operate my Apple applications such as Safari, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD. Finder and Preview also won't open. When clicked they all just bounce then don't open.
I can still open Explorer which I never normally use and Messenger and the Dashboard. iTunes opens but then doesn't play tracks.
I realise that I may have to reinstall software however I don't want to lose my files in iPhoto though spotlight shows me that they are still there (though they will not open in larger format) and I also wanted to try reassure myself this wasn't me being hacked either!
Have tried to trouble shoot this with manuals but as Preview won't open it's making this impossible. Be really grateful for any advice.
Am a bit new to all this though I suppose the upside is that I now realise what great Apple resources and forums there are out there!
    Thanks, Joe

Yes.  See this very forum for 50 threads on it, that explain the solution.

  • Safari and Mail will not open after software update

After doing the monthly software update yesterday, my Mail and Safari programs will not open. I click on the icon in the dock or in the Applications folder and I get nothing. The icon in the dock jumps, but nothing opens. I've read several other discussions and tried dragging several files out of the library, such as plist files and history, etc., but they still won't open. The software update only updated iTunes and iPhoto and included the most recent security update. I have not tried to reload Safari. If I do that (and it works), what do I need to do for Mail? Will I lose all my emails? Can someone tell me what I can do to get both programs back working properly? Thanks!

Another approach is to reapply the 10.3.9 combined update. "Repair permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
As far as your e-mail's are concerned, the database files are maintained in your User account>Library>Mail folder. It's very important you backup this folder periodically to external media regardless of circumstances to preclude losing your e-mails in the event of file corruption.
Best maintenance strategy is a full backup of your HD on a bootable external (firewire) hard drive. Makes life a lot easier in the event you need to revert your HD to its state prior to an System Update gone bad.

  • ITunes 8 will not open after installing update on iBook G4

I installed an iTunes update that included v.8 and an updated version of Quicktime. Now I can open Quicktime on its own, but cannot open iTunes at all! The icon on my toolbar bounces but does not open. After about a minute, I get a msg. that says "the application iTunes unexpectedly quit." But it never opens in the first place! Please help. I would like to uninstall and go back to the old version of iTunes. Do I have to delete my song library to do so? I am not that savvy a computer user, so please respond accordingly... thanks!

Same problem on my intel MacBookPro. Happened to me after doing the ilife08 upgrade a few minutes ago. Downloaded from apple again and did the upgrade option. That seems to have done the trick.

  • PDF e-mail attachment will not open after FF update

    FF 31 and/or 32
    Outlook or GroupWise fat client
    PDF attachments
After FF updated PDF's were re-associated with FF not the installed PDF program. Used Windows to re associate PDF's to PDF program. No problem, all PDF's open in PDF program UNLESS the PDF is an attachment in an e-mail.
Open e-mail fat client (doesn't matter the client) try and open the PDF and user gets message stating there is no program associated with attachment. Yet, all PDF's still open with correct PDF program as long as they are not in the e-mail. Now here's the really weird part.....
If there are two or more PDF's attachments in the same e-mail the first one will not open but the second, thirds, etc attached PDF's will open with the correct PDF program.
The only temporary solution I have found is to uninstall FF, re-install it and for a 1/2 day the issue goes away. I have not figured out the trigger that resets the issue.
FF is my go-to browser, but since v 31 this has been happening and if it keeps up, I'm switching to Chrome.
Come on Tech Support, help us out with this issue.

Sorry you're having this problem. I think it was previously reported only by Windows XP users.
When you reinstall, were you making Firefox your default browser? Some users have reported that ''not'' making Firefox the default browser was an effective workaround.
However, you may have success with this approach, suggested by a user in another thread, which appears to more thoroughly update the Windows registry:
    # Open Adobe Reader / Acrobat
    # Edit->Preferences
    # In the Categories column click 'General'
    # Near the bottom of the page click the button marked 'Select Default PDF Handler'
    # In the dialog, select 'Adobe Reader XI' (or Adobe Acrobat, as the case may be) and click 'Apply'
    # A Windows Configuration screen will appear. Allow it to do its stuff (takes a few minutes), then restart your computer when prompted.
Does that resolve the issue for you?

  • Applications not opening after Yosemite

I downloaded Yosemite about a week and a half ago and I've had nothing but trouble. My adobe applications like Indesign and Dreamweaver will not open, but in the rare instance that they do, they crash about 20 min into working in them. Mail and iTunes won't open saying that there is an error. When trying to change permissions, it says that I do not have access when I am the admin. As of now the only web browser I can use is Safari and even that will crash and not respond. I can't even open the App Store to get the latest update.
    Any help?

I have this same issue   I have installed CleanMyMac but after the problem started.

    Hi!
We are still investigating this topic. If you still have issues, you could consider to reset your phone to factory settings (and taking a backup before to not lose your personal content).
What would be helpful for us would also be to know, what other applications you have running on your phone.
    Thanks in advance!

  • ITunes will not open after (12) update!!!!!!!

Just updated iTunes to (12) and now it will not open. Two messages. The procedure entry point ADAdPolicyEngine_DidEnterStation could not be located in the dynamic link library iAdCore.dll. and then iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127)
I've tried to uninstall and reinstall DID NOT WORK. Tried to remove the file iAdCore.dll. from iTunes in the program files and again DID NOT WORK! I have lost my entire library and now cannot even open iTunes just because I did the update. Please help.
    Win XP SP3 32bit

i had almost same issue on Windows RT 8.1
i tried to uninstall and reintsall as apple says THOUSAND TIMES but, did not work at all !
i sorted out myself issues they are ,
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple folder &
    C:\ProgramData\Apple &
    C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer    cannot be deleted
thats why i recieved "Error 7 (Windows Error XXX)" even though apple says its because netframework or Corrupt download or incomplete installation of iTunes software

  • Iphoto 9.4.3 does not open after security update. osx 10.7.5 Lion is running

Last used iphoto  a month ago to upload photos. Today attempted to upload daughter's gymnastic photos and iphoto 9.4.3 will not open. Stops at dialog that says it must be updated to open my library. But I run Lion not Maverick. The new iphoto only runs on Maverick. Only system change I can think of since end january is the security update I did a few days ago. I've checked the iphoto library and it seems intact with 43 gigs of photo etc stored over last 10 years.
MacApp says new update available 9.5, but it doesn't work with my Lion. I don't want to change anything right now.
    Computer is MacPro G5 2009.

    OK - good luck
Generally it is better to resolve problems and then upgrade since generally problems have nothing to do with the Application but are data problems which can be made more difficult to resolve by upgrading the software while the problem still exists

  • Outlook 2013 does not open after Windows / updates

    Hi,
I had installed Office 2013 on my Windows PC. I got updates for Office 2013 and after that my Outlook stoped working. It did not open except in safe mode. I checked similar problems and tried to remove add ins in safe mode but still does not work. Tried
to create new profile no success. Then I tried to re install it yesterday and it worked fine until I got updates again today and it stops open again.
Is something wrong with Office 2013 updates?
Any suggestion/solutions to fix this problem.
    Chagi

    Hi,
Since Outlook works fine in safe mode, you can also try to open Outlook with
/safe:1 and /safe:3 commands to narrow down the cause.
/safe:1  Starts Outlook with the Reading Pane off.
/safe:3  Both native and managed Component Object Model (COM) add-ins are turned off.
Please also try to open Outlook with /resetnavpane command to check if this issue is caused by corrupted Navigation Pane settings. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
    outlook.exe /resetnavpane and press Enter.
If above not working, please try to use the Inbox Repair Tool to scan and repair your Outlook data file errors to check the result. See:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA102749454.aspx?CTT=1
In addition, you can try to uninstall these updates to check if Outlook will work, so that we can determine if this issue is caused by released updates.

  • Software applications not opening after 10.4.4

Hi, since my upgrade to 10.4.4, some applications will not open, especially, but not limited to, Adobe applications. I've repaired permissions using Disk Utility and have run Disk Warrior to repair my hard drive. All native Mac programs are working fine as well as Classic and it's apps. Does anyone have a similar issue or insight as to what might be the problem?

Thanks for your reply. I have reinstalled the 10.4.4 combo package but this did not correct my problem. I still cannot open many applications. I have tried everything that I know to do and I'm getting quite frustrated. 10.4.4 has been nothing but trouble for me. What sub program is responsible for opening an application when it's icon is clicked on? The icons will bounce once when clicked upon but then do not launch the applications - nothing happens. Can I go back to 10.4.3 without creating new issues? Another interesting thing occurred - I downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.05 to my hardrive and when I click on the app - again nothing happens. Please help!!!!

  • InDesign CS3 will not open after installing updates

    Hello,
I am having a problem printing borderless with InDesign CS3. When my paper size is set on borderless my photos print very light. If Iremove the borderless setting the photos print fine.
In a effort to correct this problem I downloaded  and installed updates for InDesign CS3 now InDesign will not open.

5.0.3 should not have installed after 5.0.4 (that's a problem with the installer), and it may have added problems. First things to try, though, before we get down to uninstalling and reinstalling again, are trashing the prefs (Replace Your Preferences), trying a new user account, and starting with extensions disabled (hold down the Shift key when you boot).
If it comes to reinstalling again, you should probably also run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) before reinstalling, and make sure you have the correct update which you can download again from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4029

  • Why some of my programs will not open after the update to yosemite

    Hello
I updated my Macbook Pro to Yosemite. After my upgrade some of my programs do not open, Such as Wireshark. I'm a fairly new user of pc to mac. I know in windows you can go in to the system logs to see what is going on. Does Mac have a similar feature or has anyone experience this issue as well? The same issue happen with Parallels and I reinstalled the program and it worked again. but this one is not working.

Which version of OS X did you upgrade from? Some apps may not be compatible with Yosemite: see Roaring Apps > http://roaringapps.com.
For information on Wireshark and Yosemite, see -> https://ask.wireshark.org/questions/35986/not-able-to-launch-wireshark-on-yosemi te.
Parallels 9 was not working for me, and I had decided to upgrade to 10 when it was released. You can work-around Parallels 9 not working, but version 10 is best for Yosemite.
    Good luck,

  • Itunes not opening after Windows Update

I am aware that a post was made recently that was very similar to this one, but my problem is different enough that i deemed it necessary to make my own topic)
Ever since I downloaded the new Itunes 10, everytime I have had a Windows update (I am using Windows 7), Itunes will not open. When i double click it, the mouse shows the "loading" cursor but the program does not work. This has happened two times before, and each time i had to uninstall Itunes as well as Quicktime, and then re-install both of them.
I would like to be able to update Windows without Itunes dying on me, so are there any other ways to get it to work? Any help is very appreciated.

thank you so SO much for providing that link!
been stuck with that problem for days; tried uninstalling, removing, reinstalling, all the things. also deleted my preference files in ~/Library/Preferences/ like a thousand times etc.
all I missed was that there also are two files in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ too; I deleted those, restarted; woosh, iTunes is finally back! *dances through the entire house*
