Applications not starting on reopening

In the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing a problem with my relatively new Macbook Pro 15" (mid 2009 model), purchased only a couple of months ago.
Mostly it's working fine, but certain applications - including native Apple ones such as iTunes and Garageband, I would add - will not open for a second time after they've been closed during a session. e.g. I'll open and use the web authoring application Coda perfectly fine, but I'll close it because I've finished with it. If I need to open it a second time, later, the icon bounces in the dock for a long period, but then comes to rest without having started the program. In Activity Monitor, the program shows as 'not responding'. The only thing I can do to get the application to open again is to log out of the laptop, then log back in.
I thought it might be a Permissions problem, but I've repaired the disk permissions countless times. And I don't think it's a problem of lack of space on my hard drive. I've got nearly 150GB of my 320GB free. Other details of my model are below.
Any ideas? Sorry if this one has been asked before and I missed it - I did try as lengthy a search as I could.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
One thing to try would be to boot from your install disc and then navigate to Disk Utility and repair the disk itself.
Good luck!

Thanks for your response, usha rani
    1. We already tried that, unfortunately, it does not help
    2. We checked the kernel version thoroughly after you suggested it, everything seems to be fine. We had a Unicode kernel before, and we still have one.
    3. safemode is already set to NO
    4. J2EE's default.trace is full of exceptions, but none of them is pointing me into a helpful direction.

  • XenApp 6.5 + App-V - published applications not starting

I am using App-V 5 in different Citrix environments together with Windows 2008r2, Citrix XenApp 6.5 and Workspace Manager 2014. I am logging on the desktop on a Citrix XenApp server and from there have the ability to start applications
on another environment through the Program Neighbourhood Agent to another Citrix server, so I am basically running ICA to ICA.
The problem I have here is that if a new user logs on (that has no userprofile) starts an App-V package on the other Citrix server first, then the ICA session is established, the userpofile gets loaded and then it logs the user off by
itself. If however the user first starts a non-App-V published application first and then starts the App-V package everything works as it should.
When a new user first starts an App-V package I see that it don’t create an AppV catalog under AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\. If the user however starts a non App-V application first, then it is created with its sub files and folders.
Any idea why this is happning? Is perhaps the AppV application trying to launch before the creation of the userprofile is complete?

    Thanks’ guys for the replies.
I have tried to publish the application directly in Citrix AppCenter. Same things happens, the program does not start on a clean profile, but the App-V AppData Roaming files are being created. If the user logs off and then tries again
it works. I even tried to put a dealy for 30 seconds, but same things happens.
This is not a server issue, it is a userprofile issue. On this test I only use 2 terminal servers in each zone. The App-V files on the servers are already loaded before the users logs on. And this only happens on a clean profile.
Just to be clear: user logs on to Citrix XenApp server nr 1. From server 1 it wants to start a virtual application from server 2. ICA tunnel is being created between server nr 1 to server nr 2. Userprofile is being created on server nr
    2. App-V client starts on server nr 2, but fails if this is a new user without an existing profile. If the user starts a non App-V application on server nr 2 first, everything works as it should and the AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AppV\Client folder is being
created with subfolders and files, so if the second application a user starts is a virtual application it will work. Next time the user logs on it can start an App-V application on server 2 as the first application and everything will work from now on.

  • Most Apple applications not starting up

I've been having issues with system software recently. When I try to start iCal, Safari, Software Update, even the Calculator, the software's icon starts bouncing but never starts up. This is really starting to bug me since I can't update my software or run Disk Utility to check if the problem is with my hard drive. I've tried starting up in Safe Mode and checking with fsck, but it find s no problems.
Does somebody know what's happening here?

I've been having similar situations just since Monday Apr 24th. With mine the application will start up (seemingly) but then before I can do anything I will get the spinning beachball icon that never stops. I can force quit (it does not say in that dialog box that the application is "not responding"). I don't know how many apps this applies to, but far too many. This happens invariably with Camino, Calculator, many things in System Preferences, and Disk Utility. It does NOT happen with Photoshop CS2 or fortunately with Startup Disk. I thought that I might make a new user account and delete the one this is happening with and maybe that would clear it up. But, right now, I only have the one account and because I can't get into the Users program, I can't make changes. I was able to use the Install CD and startup from it and repaired permissions but that had no effect once I restarted from my HD. Since I am unable to use some important tools, do you have any suggestions for me. (oh, also, I tried to install Applejack but the installer also wouldn't run.)

  • Applications not starting, some disappear

I've got a number of apps that just do not start at all on my X6. I've re-installed the latest phone software, reset back to factory settings but nope, does not work.
One of the programs not starting is for instance the function to de-install programs. When I tap it, the screen goes black, and then the menu of application management comes back.
Another one is the Metro news app, I get the little red pulsating dot topright next to it, but it fails to start. Uninstalling and re-installing didn't help. And I got this from the Ovi-store, for the X-6 so I expect it to work.
But the biggest problem with this is the standard function of uninstalling applications that does not start. I can uninstall non-working programs from the menu. But for instance Live Messenger which doesn't connect anyway at all, cannot be uninstalled because after I start it, and I exit it again, it is no longer selected, and tapping it just starts it again, in vain.
Also, apps seem to magically disappear without trace. Spore, pre-installed on any X6, has vanished, no trace, just gone. How? Beats me, it was just gone.
    Any sollutions to these problems?

Restart phone and try to open "installed apps", don't run anything else. If still not working then uninstall any recenctly istalled apps, go to main menu>apps folder>options>organise>(single tap particular app)>options>remove Then try "installed apps"

  • Application not starting error 1052001

    Hi Guys,
Yesterday my server wasn't starting because my .sec file was corrupted. I got everything up to date and all the apps were able to start except for one. In the storage tab on the properties file, i can still see that there's data in the app. When i try to do a clear data to reload from a backup to nudge the .ind file, the command gets terminated.
Running a validation doesn't even work so i'm pretty sure its corrupted.
Does anyone have any suggestions or should i just reload the whole app from a backup?
BTW this application has 2 databases and only one is used. V11.1.2.1.102 Essbase

The index file could be corrupted, it might be best to try and restore the application from backup.

  • Application not starting after mac os 10.8.5 on mac mini

all my apps failed to start after mac os upgrade to 10.8.5 on mac mini.
    except safari.
    how to recover or downgrade.......

Try starting in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+).

  • Applications not starting or loading

Seems odd my safari, mail adobe reader apps do not open at all. The mail icon will jump up but will not load anything. Any ideas. Seems strange mostly apple apps. Is there an app or something that opens these and is not working.

It does the same thing even in a brand new user account?
Try rebuilding the Launch Services database. You can do that by opening Terminal and copying and pasting these three lines all at the same time, and then pressing return:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/\
    Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister \
-kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
You could also give your system a thorough hosing down. Try downloading OnyX and running all of the maintenance and cleaning tasks.

  • In XP Mode on Windows 7, after installing application as like I would normally on an actual XP system, application will not start in windows XP mode itself.

Just did a clean install of windows 7.  I then downloaded windows XP mode and Windows Virtual Mode.  Everything ran flawlessly and everything is updated.  I needed to Install a program called Dentrix 10.5 which can only be installed on Windows
XP for numerous reasons and one including it needing to use Microsoft .NET 1.0.  I installed this program on Windows XP Mode as I would as if I were installing it with a computer with windows XP.  The Install of the program went fine and completed.
Still being in Windows XP Mode I wanted to see how it would run.  I hit Start Menu, All Programs, Startup Programs, and clicked on the Dentrix Application.  Once I clicked it the time glass on the  mouse was there for a few seconds and
then went away without the application starting up at all.  One thing that I'm thinking is why after I clicked Start Menu, All programs, is why was Dentrix not in its own folder and instead in the Startup programs after All programs?  Any Ideas how
to get the program to run?  Like I said, I am trying to run the program in Windows XP Mode and not Windows 7 as I have found many Q's and A's on only how to do that.  Also this is the second application which I downloaded and the first being Microsoft
Security Essentials so I know I don't have some virus from keeping from opening the Dentrix Application.  Incase you are wondering the Microsoft Security Essentials opens and runs fine in Windows XP Mode.  So Pretty Much My Main question is: Why
my application not starting up in Windows XP Mode?  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Once I clicked it the time glass on the mouse was there for a few seconds and then went away without the application starting up at all.
A couple times a week I open Dentrix 11.0 in a virtual machine on Windows 7. I experience the same thing almost every time I open the VM. I must first get Windows to "reconnect" my network for me. Do this by opening Start | My Computer, and
double-click on the mapped network drive leading to the Dentrix data. After I can see the Dentrix data drive, Dentrix will be able to read it too and will open correctly.
In Dentrix, seeing nothing (or briefly seeing a hourglass and then seeing nothing) is a classic sign that either:
    - The database files are marked as Read Only
    - The program cannot access the data files (probably the folder it is pointed to does not contain any data).
    - Or possibly the database path does not point to the right location where the data files are located
Open the folder where you installed the program files of Dentrix (probably c:\program files\dentrix\) and double-click to run EP.EXE. The database path will be revealed. You can "Browse" to the correct location, and "OK" through the dialog to
close them. Then try opening Dentrix again.
Should that not work, open Start | My Computer, and try to open the path (starting with the drive letter, then the folder structure you saw in EP.EXE).
By the way, if your path uses UNC (starting with two back-slashes and then the computer name of the server), you'll need to map a network drive and replace your path with a mapped drive path. (Map a drive in Start | My Computer | Tools | Map Network
Drive). Dentrix really doesn't like UNC paths.
Dentrix 10.5 can only be installed on Windows XP
    Microsoft .NET 1.0
Just FYI, Microsoft .Net Framework 1.0 is required only for the "Time Clock" feature of Dentrix. Windows 7 already has .NET Framework features up to version 3.5 built in, and Time Clock (in my experience) works great under Windows 7 without installing
    .NET 1.0.
Have you tried installing directly in Windows 7? I have a specific reason why I don't (I have a newer version of Dentrix installed on my Win 7 machine, and use the VM to go back to an older database occasionally - so I can't mix two different program versions
on the same machine). If you were to try installing this program under Windows 7 directly, Dentrix will launch the Microsoft .NET Framework install after the Dentrix install is completed. Just cancel out at that point (Windows will probably give you an "incompatibility"
error message anyway before allowing the install to go through) and I believe you can run it under Windows 7. That might eliminate the networking-through-the-VM issue. So, if you have no other reason not to install Dentrix on your Windows 7 machine directly,
I'd try it. You might be surprised and if it works, you'd save yourself some headache with connecting the to network through the virual machine.
Is why was Dentrix not in its own folder and instead in the Startup programs after All programs?
During the installation, on the Select Program Folder screen, you must have clicked the "Startup" option under Existing Folders. By default, "Dentrix" will be typed into the box at the top. If you simply clicked Next, it would have gone
to the correct location. The screen is a little confusing, because something in the list will be highlighted by default, but what is typed into the box at the top will actually be used.

  • Application server will not start up

    Hello,
I have read quite a few topics concerning this problem, and have tried many things but without success.
I am running on Windows XP Pro. The installation goes fine, but when I run a project, the application server cannot start, and I get a message after quite a long time saying that it can't start and to check my port numbers, etc.
I used to have Sun Java Creator, but I uninstalled it. I tried deleting the \Windows\System32\productregistry file. I tried uninstalling completely and reinstalling in C:\Sun\Creator2, but the problem is still the same. I tried deleting the domain with "asadmin" and recreating it, but I still get the problem.
I am posting all the relevant information from the logs, hopin someone will be able to help me out....

The PATH must be consistently formated (e.g. C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\bin; ) or the Appserver may not be able to start and/or stop.  Mixed quoted spaces in your PATH can cause problems, so the launcher will remove all double quotes before invoking the process. The most reliable solution would be to remove all spaces from your path before starting the Appservers components.  |#]

  • HP TouchSmart application will not start

We purchased an HP IQ 526 TouchSmart desktop with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit machine approximately two months ago. We use Clearwire to connect to the internet. About a month ago the HP TouchSmart applilcation stopped working. It will not start. Every time we try to start it we get the following error message:
HP TouchSmart Calendar has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Sometimes it says it's the HP TouchSmart Notes has stopped working or one of the other TouchSmart applications. I went to hp.com and updated all of the software for the TouchSmart application and Windows Vista. And I reguarly use Windows Update to ensure my OS is current with Microsoft security updates. I also updated the firmware. After these actions and rebooting many times the application would still not start. At this point I contacted HP customer support. We uninstalled HP TouchSmart, then reinstalled. This didn't work. I continue to see information events in the Windows Application Log almost every minute regarding HPTouchSmartCalendarNotes. They are typically the following messages over and over:
Reminder clock elapsed event is successfully fired.
    CheckReminder() is executed successfully.
    ShowReminder() is executed successfully.
After Fetching the XML nodes, checking for each node is done successfully in ShowReminder()
Events in Events.xml Before Showing Reminder<DataRoot></DataRoot>
I still have a case open with HP support and they said uinstalling the OS and reinstalling is likely the next step but I have to believe someone else has run into this issue or HP has a QFE for this issue. I really do not want to uninstall the OS and reinstall it. This has become very frustrating as the HP TouchSmart application is the primary reason we purchased the computer so my wife can manage our photos and music collection via the touch screen.
If anyone has seen this before or has a solution I would love to hear about it. We are considering taking the computer back if we can not resolve this issue.
On a related note and this might be a separate issue I continuously get HPTCS stopped working messages. I've searched the internet for what HPTCS.exe is and what is does but there is little to no information available.
Please let me know or if there is additional information I could provide that would be useful for troubleshooting.
    Cheers,
    G

Our machine was sent back to HP and they reformatted our hard drive and sent it back. Wow. Fantastic service. NOT!!!! I could have done that. Without debugging their own software to figure out why this was happening they reformatted the hard drive. I can only expect this problem will happen again since there must be a software update, etc... that is causing this behavior. I honestly do not know how to voice my disgust in their customer service. I have been a long time fan of HP and we basically only buy HP at work but this was the poorest display of customer service I have ever encountered. If your TouchSmart application stops working and the TouchSmart software updates do not resolve the problem you might as well pretend like you bought a normal computer without touch capabilities. Like buying an iPhone without it behaving like an iPhone.

  • Windows Backup - The backup application coud not start due to an internal error: You must be logged on as an administrator to perform this task. (0x8100000010).

Windows 7 users in my domain are unable to configure or change backup settings.  Users are able to open Control Panel > Backup and Restore, but when they click
Change settings, they receive the error: Windows Backup - The backup application coud not start due to an internal error: You must be logged on as an administrator to perform this task. (0x8100000010).
The same error is received when executing sdclt.exe /configure at the command prompt, regardless of whether the command prompt is launched using "run as administrator".
I've done significant testing, and have been able to determine that the local administrator account is able to configure backups before the computer is joined to the domain.  Once the computer is joined to the domain, the local administrator account
and domain users who are in the local administrators group are no longer able to configure backup and restore.  Domain administrators are able to configure backups.
This is a new issue, which began occuring sometime in the last 2 months.  3 months ago, users were able to configure backups without issue, and those computers with backups configured are still able to run their backups and do restores; however the
settings can no longer be changed.
Clearly something in the domain is doing this, but Group Policy has not been altered, and I can find no setting that would be doing this in any case.  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
So you mean you have tried different accounts in the local Administrator group and all of them failed?
If so, please check what group the local Administrator group belongs to? Does it belong to a group with limited privileges, such as the Guests group?

  • Message bean does not start automatically during application server startup

I have a message bean that does not start up during application server startup. I am able to successfully start the application manually using the visual admin tool.I searched the logs and found the following error. The error references the "QueueConnectionFactory" is not deployed or is not started. I have check and the "QueueConnectiopnFactory" is deployed. Is this a problem with the application trying to start before the "QueueConnectionFactory"? Is thier a way to define a dependency on my application not to start until the "QueueConnectionFactory" has been started, if so can how would I define this dependency. Please provide and example.
    Thanks,
    Bill

I though the same thing, but XE LISTENER is running on localhost and port 1522. On the other hand XE have local_listener explicitly set to the very same connection descriptor. Even XE installation was second on this server.
I've could change that yes, but the startup script doesn't seemed to have this mind.

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
