Applications segfault after lib32-glib2 update.
After a recent update(May 15th) certain applications segfault on start.
Some of them that I can list are Skype, Dropbox, Chromium, Wine and Java applications.
One of the updates were to lib32-glib2 and if I remember correctly one of the previous updates caused similar problems.
I already checked if I can rollback to previous, working version but for some reason I don't have it in my pacman cache anymore.
Any suggestions?
Ah, sorry - ARM doesn't seem to track multilib, so only old releases (from before Arch had [multilib] https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … 8eef640d2e ) are available.
Maybe you can compile it yourself?

Applications crashing after latest security update??
So i was prompted to download the new security update and the newest version of iTunes today. i do so, and upon start-up, i open adium and try to chat with a friend. before it could even open the IM window, adium chrashes. I updated adium and it still does the same. I then attempted to see if there were additional updates and the Software Updater also crashes instantly. i havent noticed any problems with other programs yet, but can anyone help me out on this one?
and the problems didn't start until AFTER the security update was installedSome general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 4.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
• /Library/InputManagers
• ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later). -
I have a problem with loading the application by the name of "hayday".after the latest update,in the middle of connecting to the servers,it crashes and comes bck to the home screen of my ipad.
I have and ipad II wifi, ios 4.3, and an ipod touch 4th generation, and i have the same problem on both of them.
Please someone, anyone help me with it.Close All Open Apps... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

Applications crashing after installing security update 2010-003
Hi all, anyone else having this problem (and found a solution)? After installing security update 2010-003 on snow 10.6.3, entourage, firefox, and even itunes are crashing at launch. Safari seems stable, but haven't tried other apps yet. Verified permissions on my boot disk and repaired it but the problem persists. It started after rebooting after installing the security update. I'll reinstall the OS if needed but hoping this is a bug someone has solved. Thanks!

IPod Application Crashes after 2.1 Update
Did the 2.1 update this morning and everything seemed to go fine. Then I checked out mail, contacts, clock, third-party apps, etc. and they all worked just fine. Then I tapped the orange iPod icon and the splash screen appears, then goes black and back to the Home page. A classic application crash.
Did a hard reset (twice), synced twice, called Apple, they never heard of that kind of crash yet, and suggested a total restore (of course).
Any other similar crashes? I'm hoping this is widespread and will be solved with an update rather than spending the next hour doing a restore and backup and then having the same problem with 2.1.This guy found the bug!

Mail application crashes after 2.0 update
Hi,
After installing 2.0 (which worked without troubles) I cannot use the mail application anymore. Everytime I start it I see the program open, but completely empty - no folders, messages, etc ...
I next tried to deactivate the mail account to see if it makes any difference. No such luck.
Then I tried to delete my mail account altogether (i'm using gmail) and was stunned to find out that I couldn't. I can push the "delete" button, but is doesn't make any difference. The account stays.
I can't even edit the account or create new accounts.
Any idea on what to do now ?I, too, had the same problem. I did a full restore, and then treated the phone as "new" in iTunes. Works fine now, bu I've lost my SMS conversations. I'll keep the old backup, just in case Apple fixes/solves the problem. Or someone else does first.
On another note, I too have Gmail IMAP setup for my mail when this happened. Was it the same for yours? And anyone else with this problem? -
Application Help - After OS-3 update
After installing the OS-3 for the iphone 3G I lost all my applications. I have some important information stored on one of them. It's the most important one that I need back. I've checked on itunes and have found the application file is still in the "mobile applications" directory. I've tried syncing my iphone again, and the specific application shows up in itunes but isn't on my iphone.
I've tried syncing a few times and it still isn't back on my iphone. Anyone have any ideas or know how to get back an important application that i paid for back.
ThanksYeah mine has as well. Another thread said to switch off the search features - go into Settings - General - Home - Search, untick all the boxes and restart your iphone. That solution works to fix a slow iphone so it could be a solution.
Or switch off 3G, Push, Location Services and delete unwanted apps. Or if you feeling up to it - restore your iphone then start from scratch.
Some people with 3.0 haven't noticed any change in performance or battery life while others have.
My phone is running faster but the battery life has gone down from 2 days to 1.5 days. -
[SOLVED] Plasma Desktop segfaults after recent KDE update to ver. 4.6
Today after upgrading some amount of packages, including the new KDE 4.6, my Plasma Desktop "segfaults" every single time I login into my account. I tried to send some information regarding this issue using KDE's internal reporting system, but unfortunately it tells me, that those information are irrelevant. Does anyone experience "segfaulting" of the Plasma Desktop after recent KDE upgrade? I'm looking for some help on how to solve this issue, as for the moment my Arch is dead...

Actually, it is KDE that is giving you trouble, not the OS . When you reach the kdm login screen, don't login. Instead, switch to a tty (Ctrl+Alt+F1, for example) and login from there. Then, you can see a list with all your plasmoids with
plasmapkg -l
If you find the culprit plasmoid, and it is a plasmoid downloaded outside Arch's repos (from kde-look.org, for example), remove it with
plasmapkg -r plasmoid_name
If the plasmoid is installed as a package, it is probably better to uninstall/upgrade it using pacman.
panosk wrote:do you use some extra plasmoid? if so, you need to rebuild them.
Hi all,
I have the same problem. I tried using tty, but I got "cannot access to X server". Than I tried
Alt+F2 to run Terminal, I used
plasmapkg -l
in order to see the list of all the plasmoids, but I couldn't find the "culprit" plasmoid. I don't know if I am doing it right. Here the list of my plasmapkg:
[encho@x~]$ plasmapkg -l
plasmapkg(1986)/libplasma Plasma::PackageStructurePrivate::createPackageMetadata: No metadata file in the package, expected it at: "/home/encho//metadata.desktop"

[SOLVED] Audacious segfaults after gtk3 3.2.2-1 update
EDIT 2:
Fixed upstream.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=664137
EDIT: Fixed at gtk3 3.2.2-2
Hi,
I realized today that Audacious 3.1-2 started to segfault after the update from gtk3 3.2.1-1 to 3.2.2-1 (Everything pacman -Syyu'ed)
1 - Press 'F' to open Add Files... dialog
2 - Browse arbitrary folders
3 - Segfault after opening 5-6 folders
No problems with playback whatsoever, hence I posted this here.
Going back to gtk3 3.2.1-1 fixes the problem.
No errors reported by audacious.
gdb:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
in g_type_check_instance_is_a () from /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0
I have not seen anything reported to audacious or to gtk developers. I am away from home for the next week and do not have a decent Internet connection; so I refrained from reporting the bug for the moment. I know it is annoying when people file bugs and disappear.
Can anyone reproduce the problem?
Thanks...
Last edited by kare (2011-11-30 16:11:58)Here you go: audacious, gtk3, glib2 with debug.
Btw, it looks like I sometimes get different backtraces, I have seen 3 variations. I include 2 here, I forgot to log the other one and cannot get it again.
http://pastebin.com/hNLbGPTG
http://pastebin.com/dcKTb9bC
To reproduce, I do exactly as I say in the first post:
1 - Open the dialog to add files to the playlist. (Hit 'F' on the keyboard, or use the Plus button at the lower left corner of the playlist -- with Winamp skin)
2 - I start going in to random folders and possibly adding files. Adding files is not necessary, just going into a folder, then going back to the parent, and repeating this is enough. The dialog is set to stay open after adding a file.
3 - Crash comes randomly. Sometimes when I descend into the very first folder. Other times I need to go back and forth 5-10 times.
EDIT: Just now, I could reproduce this on a second Arch Linux installation.

After the last update iTunes no longer works... "This application failed to start because MSVCF80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem" I tried and it did not fix the problem?

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard on both of my computers.
Some time ago, one crashed my computer and I had to reinstall the operating system and all applications.
After I had installed once Acrobat 9 Sdt in the computer, I wanted to update the software version 9.0.0 update to the same level as it was before the crash and that the other computer has version named 9.5.5.
The system for update from version 9.0.0 does not work at all. "There are no updates" listed in the dialog.
Can you advise how I get my Adobo Acrobat 9 Standard (Version 9.0.0) could be updated to the same level as the computer had before the crash.ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/9.x/

All application slow to molasse after Installing Security-Update 2010_007
After installing security update, ALL applications, all commands in X11 had response times ALL key strokes of the order of seconds to minutes with >93% of system CPU idle. Console displays the message below ever 60-70 seconds.
11/11/10 4:25:36 PM updatedyld_sharedcache[12] for arch=i386 failed: read failure copying dylib errno=5 for /System/Library/Frameworks/Accelerate.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/vecLib.fr amework/Versions/A/libLAPACK.dylib while copying /System/Library/Frameworks/Accelerate.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/vecLib.fr amework/Versions/A/libLAPACK.dylib to shared cache
The solution is a modification of this link
http://www.macosxhints.ch/forums/showthread.php?t=15517
Basically, the offending file /System/.../LibLAPACK.dylib is moved from the system directory to a current directory, e.g.,
sudo mv /System/Library/Frameworks/Accelerate.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/vecLib.fr amework/Versions/A/libLAPACK.dylib .
and then back to the original directory, e.g.,
sudo mv libLAPACK.dylib /System/Library/Frameworks/Accelerate.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/vecLib.fr amework/Versions/A/libLAPACK.dylib
Problem solved without reboot as system immediately returns to normal. Why would a security update from Apple cause this?Andreas, do you have this info in english? I'm having a similar problem, and I want to see if I can solve it; or could you tell me what you did to solve it?
Here's the message I'm getting every minute from the console:

Hello,
After a Mac update, flash player (along with silverlight) asked to be installed when I tried to watch video content or play games. I installed flash player and it reports being successful and appears in my applications. However, I cannot watch videos or play games, every time I am asked to install flash player again and again and again. I suspect this has something to do with plugins but I am not sure. I have un-installed the program and reinstalled but it still will not work. I check my security settings and it does allow plugins. I erased my temporary internet files. I don't know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated! This is incredibly frustrating. Thank youThank you for responding! I am using a macbook pro 2011, 2.2ghz, intel
core i7, 16gb - version 10.9.5. I have not intentionally installed any ad
blocking software; intact I am inundated with it most times. My online
school work required that I disable pop up blockers and all was well until
an update a few weeks ago for both security and operating system. To the
best of my knowledge I am allowing pop ups and plugins but this may be
where the trouble is. I am unsure, honestly of what security is running
besides what I find in the system preference/security tab. Thank you again
for responding and any help is most appreciated.

CAN'T open any applications after mac os update 10.4.11
CAN'T open any applications after mac os update 10.4.11 help
General advice on updating:
If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
The 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC Macs is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL170
And for Intel Macs here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL172
Full details about the 10.4.11 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11.
This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.

Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta. If Safari 3.1.2 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 3.0.4 (or worse still, version 2) when running 10.4.11 or 10.5 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.1.1 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail and Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, and may entail you having to reinstall an earlier operating system.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.

/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
