Applications showing as "Paused" or "Not responding" on Mavericks
Hi guys,
I've been facing some issues with Mavericks, I have a Mac mini which I upgraded to Mavericks, after that it was really slow and the applications suddenly turned to "Paused" showing in a pop up window all the applications started and in some cases all of them where "Paused". At that time I did just an upgrade, I thought that by installing the Mavericks from zero would fix the issue but it didn't, it has improved the performance but I still face that anoying issue of apps being paused, the worst is that even if there's a button to "restart" the application it doesn't really work and at the end I have to restart the Mac.
I have a Mac mini with the followig specs:
Mac Mini (Mid 2011)
Intel Core i5 (2.33 GHz)
1TB HDD
16 GB RAM
I've tried to disable the "Power nap" bye going to "Get Info" of every application, however not all the apps show the checkbox to disable Power nap.

Applications not responding after Mavericks upgrade
Just upgraded an IMac-2009 of a friend from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and faced Mail & Contacts not responding (spinning ball).
May be there coud be addtl applications not responding but i only checked the major ones and those 2 causes problems.
I just asked him to re-install OS-X (01:40) and i will see (am living far from him)
I have also read a lot of communities questions and have some lines of thinking like preferences & permissions.
2 questions :
1) Some ideas to help me
2) is there a way to manage his IMac from home (I have a MacBookPro using Mavericks)

- i decided to re-install Mavericks (for the 3rd time !!!) as the upgrade was so badly installed and i was surprised to see that this time, the re-installation shows "complements modules to re-install" (translated from french) with a schedule of 01:02 (against 01:40 before)
- and apparently my friend called me later to say : everything is working fine. He recovered all applications.
Strange but I am happy by now.

Activity Monitor shows Compressor functions as (Not Responding)

I have noticed in Activity Monitor that I repeatedly get these messages in red:
CompressorJobController (Not Responding
qmasterqd (Not Responding)
CompressorTranscoderX (Not Responding)
ContentController (Not Responding)
Qmaster Task Service (Not Responding)
I have been force quitting them and then they continue to show up even if I don't have compressor open.
I compressed a 40min HD at 800kbs last night - I woke in the middle of the night thinking it would be done and it was only half way done. I opened Activity monitor to see what was going on. It said that the these functions were (Not Responding). But i noticed activity in the cpu column and in the threads and processes window. I decided to see if it was really hung. I let it go till morning. I finished in about 8 hours. Can this be true?
I am on the top of the line 17inch Macbook Pro. It seems like there are some anomalies that I don't understand. Should I disregard these recurring functions that say they aren't responding?

While everything is running and suddenly all **** breaks loose, or rather just freezes in time.
Open Activity Monitor and select CompressorTranscoder and click the Inspect icon, you will get the process details and check the 'Open Files and Ports' tab.. There is where you will find all the files this process needs!! Here is the issue! you will notice some temporary and cache items,. open the terminal and using commands navigate to those file locations and Voila!! you see those files dont exist!! thats why this service has hanged.. The apple team needs to figure out how these files got closed without compressorTranscoder knowing about it!! BUG BUG BUG!!! -
10.7.5 client shows open directory server not responding
Hello,
I am just starting to learn to use OS X Server. I have created an Open Directory Master and want to connect my various Mac's around the home to. My iMac is currently running 10.7.5 client and have tried to add the server as a Network Account Server - re: below, but it shows it is not responding.
As I am a real novice, have I missed something and how do I get this to work?

NickYou are likely having issues because you are not using DNS correctly. The name "CowShed.local" is a bonjour name. In order to properly use Open Directory you need DNS set up internally. The reason is that the Kerberos component of Open Directory is very dependent on DNS.
Generally, I would discourage the use of bogus top level domain. However, since you say this is for home use, you can likely get away with the use of one (mac.leedern.int, mac.leederm.private, etc). However, if you do, then you will not be able to use hosted services (mail, calendar, contacts, etc) transparently between the home and external networks (names will not route).
If you own a domain name, you can use it internally and setup your DNS on the server. Then distribute the servers's LAN IP address to all clients as the first DNS server. This way, all your client devices can resolve the server's host name while on the LAN.
Your journey starts at DNS.

Applications Folder not responding in Mavericks/Yosemite
I've got a friend who's applications folder is very slow to respond, if at all. I upgraded her OD to Yosemite and ran the latest version of the Onyx Utility and still no change. I've done a little research and tried several of the terminal commands with no change. Her apps folder isn't horribly large and there aren't any odd applications in her folder. Anyone have any ideas about this?

I7 Fully loaded iMac becoming unusable slow apps not responding with Mavericks
Very frustrating. My 2012 iMac with an i7/16Gig memory is crawling with Mavericks. It didn't start out that way, but it's almost unusable now. I will get a few minutes of seeming to work fine, then periods of long lasting slowness. Evening typing an email will have a delay where typing will not come out as I am typing it for a few seconds, then it all bursts out. Simple interactions get spinning beach balls from 5-45 seconds. The activity monitor shows nothing taking any particularly large amount of processor load, memory pressure and status is all green & good. Some disk activity but nothing that should account for the lags. Loading applications, the system grinds to being unresponsive. Adobe applications and running aperture have delays in activity from 5-60 seconds in simple interaction. The activity monitor then shows several of the larger apps (iTunes, Aperture, Premiere Pro) as Application Not Responding. It can take from to 30 seconds (if Im lucky) to several minutes for the system to become responsive again. Sometimes it never does.
I have run DiskUtility /repair permissions several times with no real results. There are documented issues with Finder being slow to pull up files and directories. I ran the fix for that as well as the slow restart/bootup issues documented. Those fixes made a difference but not with the overall issue of the system just grinding to a halt.
Has anyone else seen this, any suggestions on what to do to fix it? Im spending more time fighting the computer than getting my work done.Very frustrating. Google Chrome Helper is not responding after Mavericks upgrade
Since installing Mavericks on my 2011 Macbook Air, Google Chrome has frozen twice and activity monitor says this is due to a process called google chrome helper.
Chrome Version 30.0.1599.101
The first time, I could not get my machine to respond so I had to do a hard reset. On the next occasion I waited and it started responding again.
Never had this problem on Mountain Lion and I am a chrome tab ****.

This is an issue with how Activity Monitor determines responsiveness – these processes are running perfectly fine. (We changed chrome to work around that Activity Monitor issue, and the fix will reach you eventually...
That is "dated" about five hours ago (current local time here is 6:23pm, CDT). So there should be a new version of "something" available soon. The reason I say "something" is because several dev's claimed a new version of "Canary" seems to fix this problem. I'm no dev but the concensus seems to be that the 'helper' is actually work/responding fine, as far as Chrome is concerned. But there are some changes and API calls that make Activity Monitor 'think' it's "not responding." Reading that last post, however, leads me to believe that a new version of Chrome will soon be available. I have no idea what "Canary" even is but many may not be using it so the fact that it fixes this problem is irrelevent; the fix needs to be seen by all Chrome users.

My messages application on my mac is not responding
The application wont respond. even after restarting the system and force quiting the app or even letting it sit open for an hour. It just wont respond. How do i fix this.
Read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data.
Quit Messages if it’s running.
Step 1
Hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (either may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.Messages
Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in. Try Messages again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
Step 2
If you still have problems, quit Messages again. Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
Messages
Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
Test. If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place, and continue.
Step 3
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with "com.apple.iChat". Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post again.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of steps 2 and 3, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup. -
After the distribution of the latest windows update on Dec 2014 we started to face irregular behavior with our Citrix ICA Client V12 which is used to connect to our online applications. The web application suddenly crash and windows provides an error message

We suspect that it was duo to Windows update, we have tried this fix (https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3025390) but with no luck.

Adding a title to a clip makes the image pause and not respond correctly.

I have Imovie running on my Mac book and when I add a title to a clip, the image when pauses (audio continues).
The other error that occurs is that when the title is put in place there is a jump in the audio and video like the clip has been cut and a few frames have been removed or some times added.
Ilife came free with my mac so I cant re install it. Also the new Imovie is not something I'm after. But if the free download comes with all the effects etc then I may consider geting the new Ilife 08.

any one?It may just be that you have insufficient disk space, or are storing your project on an external disk that is not formatted for Apple. It should be Mac OS extended or Mac OS extended (journaled).
IF none of the above apply, for the heck of it try closing iMovie and trashing the Fonts Collections Folder (NOT the Font Book) located in user/Library/Font Collections. When iMovie is relaunched it will create a new Fonts Collection Folder with the info that it needs. Inexplicably, that sometimes resolves these glitches. You could also try removing any duplicate fonts that you find in your Font Book Folder. (They will have a black dot next to them.) Select any with a black dot and then go to the Edit menu and select Resolve Duplicates.
If none of the above works, you can always try closing the iMovie project and then trashing the com.apple.iMovie.plist file located in your User/Library/Preferences folder. When you relaunch iMovie a new iMovie.plist file will be created.
You can repair permissions through the Apple Utility App.
Some of the more experienced tech persons on this forum may have some better suggestions. -
Update link on officejet j4540 shows on desktop will not respond. Using windows 7
Had an older computer using Windows XP with the Officejet j4540 with no problems. Computer died. Bought new computer running Windows 7 Home. Installed printer & downloaded new software. Got the blue tag on desktop to update but tag would not work. Ordered and install the software disk from HP. Uninstalled downloaded software & installed printer from the disk. Still same results. Have not been able to get updates.
ByronByron, would first uninstall the printer entirely from the computer. First disconnect the USB cord (if one is used). Then make sure that any related files or programs are entirely removed or deleted from Programs and Features, Devices and Printers, and the Device Manager. Then restart the computer.
Do not plug the USB cord in until the software asks for it.
Then go to http://goo.gl/wUs2E and locate your appropriate drivers and software for your particular printer model. They are all available for free downloads. You will want to use the "Full Feature" version of the software package.

Applications constantly quitting unexpectedly and not responding
Lately, my computer has been having quite a bunch of issues. One of the major ones is applications constantly crashing and quitting unexpectedly. For example, when I want to go edit a video with iMovie, I have to literally reopen it 5 times just so that it doesn't quit straight away. While editing, it also constantly crashes, so it takes approximately 10 times as much time and stress to edit than it should. This isn't only happening to iMovie, but to all applications - iTunes, Facetime, Skype, Quicktime Player etc.
So should I paste what's in the crash report? This is one of my crash reports, I still had a ton more. Is the crash report going to help me fix the issue though?

Imac not responding after mavericks upgrade- black screen

1. Pull out the plug - gives fresh reboot
2. Keep the start button pressed for approx 5-10 secs, then press it again and the mac powers up...to the state it was when left ie not a fresh reboot.
This is very annoying , has my wife yelling at me and no longer gives us the instant access from sleep we used to have ...

I have a 27" iMac from August 2010 (ie v soon after CPU upgrade) , core i3 processorOK I appear to have fixed this ...after the Mavericks upgrade the screensaver was reset to loading photo's from "national geographic" which it did after a few mins...i have changed this to another option photo's of earch/space etc..now i can wake the imac from sleep immediately as before ....so now fixed !

Hello guys Does anyone used freeradius with directory server for wifi authentication ? Which password scheme works with freeradius i dont want use cleartext with directory server.
