Applications update inconsistency in iTunes

I opened iTunes, clicked on Applications and it shows all my apps.
I click on "Check for updates", and next to the Applications link on the left windows, it says there is one (1) update. This is what I expected, as I had looked in the App Store to see which of my apps were updated since my last updates.
Then the applications to be updated appear in the iTunes Store window (App Store --> My App Updates) and it shows NINETEEN (19) apps to be updated! I click "Update All" (or whatever it says), and it downloads the 19 apps.
This inconsistency has happened to me several times now, where the numbers don't match.
Is there some logic to why this happens? Or is it a bug in iTunes 7.7.1 ?
I am a software engineer (25 years), and I'm used to things happening in a predictable manner. Sure, bugs get past testing, but if this is a bug, I can't imagine how it got past test.

I'm not sure that's correct. The number in the list never matches the apps I see when I click on Check for Updates, and the number on the iPhone doesn't match what iTunes tells me--but iTunes is certainly not telling me that every app needs an update. I have many apps that are not being updated.
(Currently, iTunes source list is stuck on telling me 1 app has an update--when I clicked it listed about 9 updates for me, I downloaded and installed them, however, the source list still says 1. So the number in the library list is definitely wrong. The App Store on the Phone says 21 updates were needed--but iTunes isn't offering me that many.)
I'm inclined to think that the numeric badges are incorrect and the list of icons in iTunes that need updates is the one to go by.

  • Applications update icons in iTunes stuck on "1"

    I've had a "1" icon next to Applications for days, when there are updates I get them but that "1" never goes away....
    Any clues? That only shows in iTunes not on the phone.

    I had the same problem. Was on the phone with Apple for half a day to fix it. Re-installed iTunes, repaired permissions, we finally agreed it was a bug where iTunes gets out of sync with the Apple store. Finally, I removed all the apps from iTunes, synched to the phone and the problem was solved... then I redownloaded the apps I had, and synched them ack to the phone. It took awhile, but at least for now, the problem is solved. They recommended I not have a mix of downoading from the phone and iTunes, but rather to download from iTunes store on the computer only. Hope this helps and relieves frustration for some of you.

    My ipod touch 4g just updates today on itunes and the update caused more trouble than good for me. My ipod will no longer show me the battery percentage in the top right hand corner and I am not allowed to drag other applications to the bottom panel. Also my itunes doesn't allow "enable disk use" anymore. Can anyone help? My ipod now says that it's the 4.3.4 version

    - Unjailbroken iPod never showed % battery.  Just the icon.
    - Unjailbroken iPod Touches never had a disk mode.
    - What happens when you try to drag a wiggling app to a empty space in the bottom? Does it move and snap back?

  • Applications not opening after choosing "update all" in itunes

    Hi,
    Bug :
    I downloaded "Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test" by Ookla, and recently noticed that there was an update for this application in itunes. When I went to itunes and chose "update all", the application updated. However after the update I was unable to open ANY third party applications (but was still able to open native applications which initially came with iphone). When i clicked on any of the third party application icons, the screen just blinked.
    I deleted one of the third party applications and reinstalled it. After that only this third party application (out of the universe of third party application on my phone) would now work. Then I proceeded to delete Speedtest and reinstall it via itunes. After this ALL third party applications would work, without requiring individual reinstallations.
    iphone model : 4s
    operating system : iOS 5
    Thanks

    Hi,
    think it's gone beyond that now.
    rang apple support and went through the install process (as per last night) but when got to install section of the process, the achive and install option is greyed out and the only option appears to be to erase and install.
    as i have photo files that i don't want to lose (my itunes are on my ipod and luckily i backed up my word files) I need to back up data by target disk mode before going ahead.
    the applecare man was very sorry that he couldn't help me as i didn't have a second mac handy for this option! am going to have to find a support shop instead now.
    i rang again and another guy said that they weren't meant to help non care people, but advised to open in safe mode by holding down shift key but when i did this i got through to a grey screen which started by reading:
    'No debugger configured - dumping debug information' before a whole scree of code and ending with 'Panic: We are hanging here...'
    All in all doesn't look good. so I'll have to go into the shop. brilliant.
    thanks for your help though,
    Joe

  • HT1766 Recently updated my iPhone 4s to the iOS 6. Now I can not install application updates, my music library has vanished, iTunes Match (in Settings) keeps setting itself to "Off".

    I recently updated my iPhone 4s to the iOS 6. Now I can not install application updates, my music library has vanished, iTunes Match (in Settings) keeps setting itself to "Off". I have also logged off of iTunes in Settings, and it will not let me log back in. Just a few moments ago when I again tried to log into iTunes, it asked me for my Password, then replyed that I had no Match account; but I do. Is Restore the best option?
    Any suggestions

    I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
    I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more.  And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should.  On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much.  I will post a note in the app store to let them know.  I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
    I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
    Starbucks app works as it should.
    I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

    Hi 969Polyglot969,
    You may want to report an issue with the affected apps using the instructions in this article:

  • ITunes Applications Update Issue

    Since updating to the latest version of iTunes (last two versions), I noticed that clicking on the "Check for update button" under the applications section, if you have an iPhone, causes iTunes to show you applications that actually dont need updating. Anotherwords, looking at the available updates on the actual phone itself, you can see there are two updates for example. Going into iTunes and clicking on the button to check for updates, shows that there are updates for almost all of my applications where in fact, my applications do not need updating. When browsing my mac to the default applications folder, you can see that there are several itteratinos of the same application with a "_1 or _2" at the end. Why does iTunes keep the old versions of the applications? It should ask you if you would like to remove the older version to the recycle bin or simply remove the older versions behind the seens. Also, the check for update button it very buggy. If you succesfully update the application on the phone itself, then sync to your mac then click on the check for update button in iTunes, it tells you that there are no updates avaialbe. But why was I shown that there were updatees for lots of my other applications when in fact there were not?

    hi guys, well - in my case i discovered what was happening...maybe it's the same for you.
    problem: applications (in itunes) said i had several updates available, but when i'd go to download the them it said there were no updates avail for me. for a while now i've been unable to update these apps.
    solution: i did a get info on one of the apps - clicking on the applications tab in itunes you can totally see the apps there...just "control-click" or "right click" and get info (command-I also works).
    anyway, look and see what user that app belongs to. sure enough, the account i was currently logged into itunes with was not the account that purchased the apps. i logged out of itunes, menu bar/store/sign out - then i logged back in with the correct user.
    fixed.
    all the apps updated, and the number disappeared from the apps icon...totally fixed.
    well, hope that helps. was a completely simple solution and i'm surprised it took as long as it did for me to figure it out.

  • ITunes Available Application Update Count Incorrect

    In iTunes, on the left-hand browser, it always shows that I have 1 iPhone application update available. However, if I click the "1 Update Available" link in the Store, it then says that there are no updates currently available. So, the available update count is incorrect. Thoughts?

    I experienced this same issue. An update number in iTunes, yet nothing to update once you click the update link.
    I also realized that I had duplicates in both iTunes itself and in the Music > iTunes > Mobile Applications Folder. The number of duplicated apps matched my false "update number."
    So, if an application was duplicated in either iTunes itself or in the Mobile Applications Folder, I made sure that each duplicated app was already synced to the iPhone, then simply removed the duplicated applications from both iTunes and from the Mobile Applications Folder.
    Then when I did my next sync, I made sure to choose the "transfer" button to have my apps synced back into iTunes. Once this was done, the problem completely disappeared. I hope this helps you!

  • Can't Download Application Updates in iTunes

    Ever since the last update (before 8.2) I cannot download updates to my purchased apps in iTunes... whenever I sign into the login box... it just re-prompts me to sign in again!! If I enter a wrong password, it flags the error, but will not accept my valid Apple Id password! I have tried changing the password to no avail... I can sign into the iTunes Store and Apple web site just fine (including this forum) just cannot do software updates from within iTunes.... btw I can download those to my iPhone 3g and sync the Apps that way but I want to be able to update on my Mac vs always having to use the phone... any ideas? tia.

    Think I found the problem... My Intego NetBarrierX5 firewall has a setting in it's default configuration when 'Information Hiding' is turned on.... I found this by selectively disabling each drop down menu feature... I think the offending parameter is called 'Hide my Apple Id when using iTunes MiniStore' ... this is checked by default along with 'Hide information about my computer and Web Browser' and 'Hide information on the last Web site visited'. I will test this again with just this param turned off the next time I have an app download waiting.

  • How to address HP Printer Software Update 3.0, iTunes 12.0.1 update that sits in the App Store, 'Calculating' for days with no install?

    The App Store indicates there is a Software Update that appears to include the HP Printer Software Update 3.0 and iTunes 12.0.1
    Unfortunately, the software update fails to install. Instead, it just sits there 'Calculating' for days with no progression on the status bar of the overall update.
    The update buttons of both the HP Printer Software Update 3.0 and iTunes 12.0.1 are both greyed out, with no progress bar.
    Not sure of what the issue is, there is no warning or error dialog box that appears or any indication of an application that may be interfering with the install.
    Any advice?
    MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011) 2.3 GHz Core i7, 4GB RAM

    Thanks for the suggestion. I wanted to install the individual updates but because I had settings to automatically download and install updates, whenever I opened the App Store, the system would try to download and install, preventing me from canceling the update to execute each application update one at a time.
    After changing the settings from automatically downloading and applying updates, followed by a restart. I was able to open the App Store and run each individual update.
    Thanks again.

  • Has anyone got a solution for the inability to update or reinstall itunes 10.6.3 on a windows 7 64 bit computer

    I have been unable to update or reinstall Itunes to my windows 7 64 bit computer.  I have tried most of the suggestions to date to no avail.  My outcome is a dialog box that says itunes was not installed. . .  At one point, it created a situation where my CDDVD drive was disabled but a windows troubleshooter got that back working citing a "class filter driver problem" that it repaired.  Also, Itunes comes up and plays from the optical drive (and the hard drive) but will not write to the CD or refresh my podcast list.  Anyone?

  • I can't update or uninstall itunes

    i can't update or uninstall itunes. I get error message:the path c:\documents and settings\network service\loval settings\application\data\apple\apple software update\itunes.msi cannot be found. verify that you have acess to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package itunes.msi in a folder from which you can install the product itunes... how do i fix this??

    I read the responses about downloading the windows installer cleanup utility, but that is no longer available on microsoft's website.
    Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
    Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
    After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
    If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
    Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
    Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    I just tried to install latest iTunes version and install failed. A pop-up stated "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. ERROR 7 (Windows error 1114)." I have a decent-sized iTunes library that is not backed-up to the cloud. How can I either get back to the previous iTunes version that was functioning OR install a new version without losing the Library?

    Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
    Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
    The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
    Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Application Update Framework in Mobile Based App

    Alright, I have a tabbed application that I target mobile tablets with (iPad, and Android). However, I also export it as a desktop app. Now, the problem I am running into, is integrating the application update framework to execute when the app loads on the desktop only version (obviously the app store is handling the updates on the tablets).
    On creation complete, I am calling the updateCheck:
    //Update Framework Related
                        import air.update.ApplicationUpdater;
                        import air.update.ApplicationUpdaterUI;
                        var appUpdater:ApplicationUpdaterUI = new ApplicationUpdaterUI();
                        protected function updateCheck(event:FlexEvent):void
                                  appUpdater.configurationFile = new File("app:/updateConfig.xml");
                                  appUpdater.initialize();
    My updateConfig.xml looks like:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <configuration xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/framework/update/configuration/1.0">
         <url>http://pro-linx.com/release/mscoast/updateDescriptor.xml</url>
        <delay>3</delay>
    </configuration>
    My updateDescriptor.xml consists of:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <update xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/framework/update/description/1.0">
      <version>2.4.15</version>

    However, when I execute the app, I get this error:
    Error #2044: Unhandled error:. text=Unhandled exception TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    And the app debugger highlights the following in updateConfig:
         <url>http://pro-linx.com/release/mscoast/updateDescriptor.xml</url>
    Any ideas guys?

    A little digging and I found this issue: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3650590
    Apparently not just Mavericks. This was an issue with the current released of AIR 3.9. I confirmed that downloading the beta of 3.9 released on 10/29/2013 seems to have fixed the issue.
