Applications won't install

For some time now I have been unable to install applications onto my computer[Mac Pro/OS X 10.4]. I've checked the system with the disk utility without any positive result[system did not need repair].
System Updater seems to work when something comes up, but not even Apple's Safari Beta will install after downloading it. Clicking on the installer, it bounces once, as if it tries to begin the process, but nothing happens.
Do I have to resort to re-installing my OS and all my other applications?

Try moving Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.installer.plist (the Preferences folder in your user area, not the one in the top level Library folder) to the desktop and then start the installer. If that works you can trash the file as a new, uncorrupted one will have been made to replace it.
It could also be the installer application itself is "broken". You can get a new copy off your OS installer discs. Do a custom install of the application or use [Pacifist|http://www.charlessoft.com>

Precisely, I have a clean TS which executes like a good kid! But 3 applications LN 8.5.3 incl Sametime , Lotus Notes 8.5.3 FP3 MU and an LN Upgrade pack.  I am attaching a copy of the smsts.log. Please share your views.
I might do a workaround by disabling staging of the image and running it straight from the boot media. Also , if you must know the online installation works just fine.

    Hi Jason,
I'm experiencing this problem with Stand-alone (USB) OSD media also. I think others have reported it but not posted extra info to help diagnose - see "Programs not installing on stand-alone media task sequence" thread.
I've seen this intermittently sometimes builds go through fine but it seems sometimes the Install Software action is just forgotten.  For example I've just built a PC using a usb key successfully with all programs present.  With the same key I've
re-run it and our Firefox package is missing.  The only entries in smsts.log for Firefox are in the 'Parsing' sections that you advise aren't relevant plus this bit:-
    Deleted setting 'CCM_SoftwareDistribution.ADV_AdvertisementID="{39997A92-226D-4813-B2FB-EEABDDA3D13D}",PKG_PackageID="PUB000A3",PRG_ProgramID="Mozilla_Firefox_17.0.4_p1 Silent OSD"'.
This is the same for both successful and unsuccessful installs of the package.  The only difference I can see is that the msiexec log file is created for the successful install but there is no log for an unsuccessful one.
Also the "All Status Messages from a Specific System" report shows the two entries "Program started for advertisement..." & "...completed successfully" only when Firefox installs ok.  For the installs where the app doesn't install there is no mention
whatsoever in the report of actions related to Firefox.
Are there any other logs which may help me get to the bottom of this?
    With thanks
    Jim

  • Bundled applications won't install from DVD

I have re-installed my macbook pro (early 2011) and have tried to install the bundled applications from the supplied dvd but they won't install. I have tried several times and it keeps telling me that it can't be installed. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?

It's resolved now, I have tried it again (now the 7th time) and for some reason it decided to work!

  • Calendar Analytics application won't install with MS Office 2013 on PC

I use Calendar Analytics, a Microsoft approved application, to analyze Outlook Calendars for utilization rates within my facility. It has worked well for me for several years. Since I
upgraded to Microsoft Office 2013, I cannot get Calendar Analytics to install on my PC. I receive an error message stating Office Shared Tools is required and I should run Office 2010 setup to install Office Shared Tools.
Please assist me in locating a way to resolve this issue either by installing the required version of Office Shared Tools or installing a compatible Outlook Calendar Analytics application
which will provide utilization information from Outlook calendars.

  • Adobe Story Desktop Application Won't Install

    Hi,
I just recently subscribed to the Adobe Creative Cloud CS6. I'm really interested in owning the Adobe Story desktop application and have attempted to download it by clicking the Install Desktop Application button. Unfortunately, all attempts have failed.
Upon clicking the Install button, I receive a pop-up explaining that I have to install Adobe Air for Story to work. If I click Yes, the window will then say the installation has failed and will ask to Retry. If I do this, the error repeats. How can I get this error to stop appearing?
Please note I have the latest version of Adobe Air already installed on my computer.

    Hi CBWriter,
Adobe Story went paid in May this year and we have now two flavours of Story - Adobe Story Free and Adobe Story Plus. The Desktop application is available to Adobe Story Plus users who value the offline capability of the product. Adobe Story Free users can continue to use the web version of Adobe Story.
We have upgraded your account to Adobe Story Plus for one day. Please login to Story and download/install the AIR application so that you can access your offline data and take them online.
    Thanks

  • Adobe AIR Application won't install

Also, tried reinistalling latest version of Adobe AIR but a message appears saying that the latest version of Adobe AIR is already installed, even though I thought I had unistalled it with the help of Microsoft Fix it (i.e. it no longer appeared in the least of programs installed on the computer).
I am using a Samsung laptop with Windows 7.
Following my latest attempt to install the application, I located the Adobe AIR log:

Please note that I managed to resolve this myself by first of all deleting the Adobe AIR folder contained within C\Program Files (x86)\Common Files of my hard drive and then re-attempting the Adobe Air application installation. This immediately caused a prompting of an update to Adobe AIR, which I ran. It  seems that the Adobe AIR application installation package contained an older version of Adobe AIR than was already installed within the 'Common Files' folder, and this apparently led to the error (sorry, I cannot explain it any more technical terms than that!).

  • Application Won't Install or Uninstall

This concerns a photo viewing program, Nikon View NX, latest version 1.1.0, but I'm wondering if the problem is with the OS.
I had View NX 1.1.0 installed yesterday but it was running terribly, not responding to mouse clicks, running slow, triggering commands that I had not clicked, so I tried to uninstall it. The uninstaller would not operate: it kept quitting each time I would click on it. This seems to be a common issue with this program that the uninstaller will not open.
So I simply dragged the View NX folder to the trash and deleted it.
I then tried to reinstall a new download of View NX 1.1.0, but the installer will not install it. Each time I click on the .dmg file and then click on the install file, it asks for password, I put that in (I actually don't use a password so it's left blank) and then click okay, and the VISE X installer then QUITS without further ado.
I successfully re-installed an old copy of View NX 1.0 today but now it will not uninstall either. Uninstaller keeps quitting suddenly when I click on the uninstall button. However, this older version of the app. appears to be working okay.
I have "repaired permissions," restarted the computer, re-downloaded the new 1.1.0 version a couple of times, etc.
    Nothing works.
Is this a VISE X problem or what? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you running OS X 10.3.9 or later? That is a system requirement for the software according to Nikon.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.

  • Application won't install (grayed out)

Hello, I'm new to Mac but I had an iphone for a long time so it was pretty easy to grasp.
The only problem is installing application from the App Store.
    Here is my problem,
as you can see, the application just stays like that every single time I download something from the app store.
The last time I downloaded something from the app store the application stayed like that then it installed a couple of days after.
This time, I'm not satisfy when I buy an app and it will not install , I want to use the application now not two days later.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem ?

  • ICalbirthdays, an automator application won't install in my iMac

I downloaded the icalbirthdays automator application from: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/index.html
Executed the install program, got a message that the installation was successful ,
But then the program was nowhere to be found.
Is it installed in some map/file that I cannot see or do not know about? Or is it not installed at all?
    Who can help?
    peterwillem

I checked the developer's website and could only find one application there - automator 3. And, according to their FAQs, there is no "install program" for Automator 3 - it simply says that you are supposed to drag the downloaded file into your Applications folder. Is that what you did?
And, just as importantly, there is no mention of icalbirthdays; this is what Automator will do:
    +About Automator Virtual Input+
+Extends Apple’s Automator automation program to give it control over the keyboard and mouse cursor. Automator Virtual Input allows Automator to access anything you can by simulating mouse clicks, movement and drags along with keyboard key presses.+
So are we talking about the same application? And how did you try to install it?

    Hi ...
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • Creative Cloud application won't install in the right disk

    Hello,
I rencently downloaded Creative Cloud for Desktop and, when I'm trying to install Lightroom 5 to my secondary hard drive (D:), Creative Cloud ignores the setting and goes to the C: drive location (which is an almost full SSD).
Is there any way to force the download to my other drive as it seems CC don't care about its preferences?
OS : Windows 8 Pro x64 with Media Center

Jeff, OK, I'll reinstall - it'll probably have to wait till next month, because of my bandwidth allowance, but I can live with that.
Regarding the other error, I didn't give enough information, sorry: after I installed InDesign and PS, I started them up and got a prompt from the CC app to fill in some details on the Adobe website. So I filled them in and got that error, no matter what I tried. If I clicked "Use the above address", it returned to the page with the form anyway.
Edited to add: I logged in again this morning and found the "My Information" page on the Adobe website -  it's not complaining about the address now. I don't know if it means the problem went away or it's a different page (it looks different), but everything seems to be working at the moment.
