Appllication Server Test Environment

We are in the process of purchasing Application Server. In the meantime while we are waiting for the purchase order to come through, we want to set up an environment for test. We do not have a legitimate copy of Application Server.
Would this be alight to install a bootleg copy until we get the legal copy.

Also to answer your second part of the question, whatever you download from any of Oracle's site is a legit copy of the software, there are no as such "bootleg copy". The difference is license - do you hold license to use the product in your production env. or not. From the binaries side, all are fully functional packages.
Thanks

  • Exchange Server 2010 SP3 test environment - email flow to/from internet

Today I set up test environment for Exchange Server 2010 SP3 - domain controller running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Exchange Server 2010 SP3 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and client computer running Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 with Outlook Pro 2010 x64. These
machines are VMs on vSphere 5.0 cluster made of 4 esxi 5.0 hosts.
I have three years of experience in working with Exchange Server 2010 in my production environment but until recently I have not had enough resources to build a test environment. Does "testing" Exchange Server 2010 infrastructure have
a real life purpose considering the fact that only internal email flow is possible since authoritative SMTP accepted domain is not hosted anywhere thus not visible to outside world. This limited email flow combined with absence of possibility to test
ActiveSync, Outlook Anywhere, OWA from WAN, . . . really hurt and make Exchange Server rare technology that can not be tested completely before introducing something new into the production. Services that are not possible to test from the outside world are
useless and whole point of Exchange-like technologies is availability from anywhere and from whatever device.

I set up Internet Send Connector (by default this type of send connector uses DNS MX records to route email automatically). Having sent an email to my gmail account I did not receive it and in transport logs I saw that mx record was found successfully
but there is the following line:
2014-08-05T20:39:51.942Z,Internet Connector,08D17F000FE36010,1,,2a00:1450:4013:c01::1b:25,*,,"Failed to connect. Error Code: 10051, Error Message: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network 2a00:1450:4013:c01::1b:25"
I tried also to send an email to my production email address (we have Symantec Messaging Gateway which is used as a smart host (antispam, antimalware, content filter appliance)) but then error is:
2014-08-05T20:50:08.395Z,Internet Connector,08D17F000FE36019,1,,91.238.7.10:25,*,,"Failed to connect. Error Code: 10061, Error Message: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 91.238.7.10:25"
Telnet from test exchange to 91.238.7.10 on port 25 also is not working.

  • Lync Server Mirror using SQL 2012 Developer Edition in Test Environment

I'm setting up a Lync Enterprise Frontend Pool in a Dev/Test environment using two SQL 2012 SP2 Developer Edition Servers. When I try and publish the topology and create the databases I am getting this error.
    System.MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'System.String Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplatesImpl.BackupToUrlNotSupported
I have not been able to find any info on this error but it would appear the it has something to do with the fact these servers are developer edition. I was under the impression that developer edition included all features of the enterprise edition. Is that
not true? Has anyone else seen this error when it attempts to create the mirror?
    Thanks

  • Server 2008 R2 KMS Server - Creating in a test environment

    Hi
I am looking to create a test environment that is a cut-down replica of the production environment so that upgrades and migrations can be trialled before being implemented into production.  The test environment will be isolated from the production network
but will have internet access available.
One of the things we will need is a KMS server - to activate test machines in the test environment, and to trial a production KMS server upgrade.
Can we just clone the existing production KMS Server over into the test environment?  Will there be problems because it has the same identity as the production server?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Since each KMS key can be installed on up to six KMS hosts. You can configure another KMS host in you test environment.
Not quite sure about the KMS host upgrade you referred. If you don’t want to update the OS, some patches will be required.

  • Correct idea to scale out testing environment and test service pack2 installation

    Hi
I have a sharepoint 2010 farm it has one sharepoint server, one database server
In one server  below services are running
    Central administration service
    SharePoint Server Search
    User Profile Service
    Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application
so i want to scale out this form  to
    1 application server
    1 web front end server
    1 Search server (index server)
    1 databse server
here how i scale out to this form
1)here how i move  sharepoint  server search service to new  index server and
    2) here how i move  Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application to new webfront end server
and in this single server  some web appllications are running also how i move these to new wf server
i want to do like this  because i want to test service pack 2 installation, now  sharepoint version is : service pack1
    my actual production environment has
    2 application servers
    2 webfront end servers
    2 index servers
    1 databae server
so this correct idea to scale out testing environment and test service pack2 installation
    adil

    Hi Adil,
The link below describes how to scale SharePoint Web Front-End with only web applications and the search query server  out of one SharePoint server with all roles running.
    http://sharepointsolutions.com/sharepoint-help/blog/2011/02/how-to-scale-out-a-sharepoint-2010-farm-from-two-tier-to-three-tier-by-adding-a-dedicated-application-server/
Now you have two SharePoint server with:
Tier 1 – SharePoint Server dedicated as a Web Front-End (WFE) with only the web application(s) and the search query service running on it
Tier 2 – SharePoint Server dedicated as an Application Server with all of the other service applications running on it, but no web applications or query service
Tier 3 – SQL Server for the databases
Then you would scale out WFE server with web applications from tier1. Now please install a new SharePoint server and join it to the existing farm and deploy it as Web Front Server. Enable the relevant services on Web Front servers per the topology picture
below, and stop the services running on the old server.

  • SSRS 2012 Subscription Error in Test Environment

    Hi All,
I was trying to set-up Email Subscription for SSRS in my Test Environment using "Reporting Services Configuration Manager" and after providing SMTP server details. I was getting error "Failed to sent Email to [email protected]"
    What could be the reason?
I tried pining SMTP IP address from the Machine where SSRS installed and I was able to ping SMTP Server using CMD ping command.
Thanks Shiven:) If Answer is Helpful, Please Vote

    Hi All,
I found the issue. The IP address of Machine, where SSRS server installed, was not included in to the SMTP relay and that's why I was getting error "Failed
to sent Email to [email protected]".
Once my network team, added IP address, it started working fine.
Another thing I noticed, due to some reason SQL Server Agent was stopped and was not running and one
of my colleagues was trying to create new subscription and was getting error 'The SQL Agent service is not running. This operation requires the SQL Agent service. (rsSchedulerNotResponding)'.
Once I started SQL Server Agent, My colleague was able to create new subscription.

  • Office Web Apps Integration in a Test Environment

I am trying to test Office Web Apps in an Exchange 2013 test environment and therefore have setup my farm for HTTP only.  I have set the WAC Discovery End Point on the Exchange server and I can browse to the XML successfully however when I preview files
they are still being displayed using Web-Ready Document Viewer.  I have checked the Event Log and found event ids 140 and 141.
Event 141 lists the following error - There was a failure connecting to or otherwise retrieving Data from the Wac Discovery Service. We will fall back to stellent. Successfully retrieved configuration data from http://server01/hosting/discovery, but
retrieved discovery xml does not contain an external https net zone node.
Do I need to configure HTTPS with a certificate in order to get this working in a test environment or should it work with HTTP?
    Thanks

    Hi Luke,
Based on my research, I found some people solved this issue via resarting MBX server and CAS server on Exchange 2013 server.

  • Best Practice - Hardware requirements for exchange test environment

    Hi Experts,
I'm new to exchange and I want to have a test environment for learning, testing ,batches and updates.
In our environment we have co-existence 2010 and 2013 and I need to have a close scenario on my test environment.
I was thinking of having an isolated (not domain joined) high end workstation laptop with (quad core i7, 32GB RAM, 1T SSD) to implement the environment on it, but the management refused and replied "do it on one of the free servers within the live production
environment at the Data Center"... !
I'm afraid of doing so not to corrupt the production environment with any mistake by my configuration "I'm not that exchange expert who could revert back if something wrong happened".
Is there a documented Microsoft recommendation on how to do it and where to do so to be able to send it to them ??
OR/ Could someone help with the best practice on where to have my test environment and how to set it up??
    Many Thanks
    Mohamed Ibrahim

I think this may be useful:
It's their official test lab set up guide.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/15392.test-lab-guide-install-exchange-server-2013.aspx
Also, your spec should be fine as long as you run the VMs within their means.

  • SSAS Strange Performance Issues (Long running with NO read or write activity) - UAT Test Environment

    Hi All,
Im looking for some pointers, my team and I have drawn a blank as to what is going on here.
Our UAT is a virtual machine.
I have written a simple MDX query which on normal freshly processed cube executes in under 15 seconds, I can keep running the query.
    Run 1. 12 secs
    Run 2. 8 Secs
    Run 3. 8 Secs
    Run 4. 7 Secs
    Run 5. 8 Secs
    Run 6. 28 MINUTES!!
This is on our test environment, I am on the only user connected and there is no processing active.
Could anyone please offer some advice on where to look, or tips on what the issue may be.
    Regards,
    Andy

    Hi aown61,
According to your description, you get long time processing after executing processing several times. Right?
In this scenario, it's quite strange that a processing take long time. I suggest you using SQL Profiler to monitor the event during processing. It can track engine process events, such as the start of a batch or a transaction, you can replay the events captured
on the Analysis Services instance to see exactly what happened. For more information, please refer to link below:
Use SQL Server Profiler to Monitor Analysis Services
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

On the internet everybody tells that the best thing to do is to extend the StuckThreadMaxTime. But we are executing only one single process on our own, on a test environment. So this can't be because WL is overloaded. When checking memory it is quite low (regarding its usual load), and there is a lot of available CPU.
The strangest thing is that this error occurs as follow:
An EJB is created correctly (we don't see issues in the logs), but this error occurs when we try to access it for the first time. I guess the SASConnectorService_37hpy3_EOImpl_922_WLStub class is our client proxy, that needs to call our real EJB on another instance of Weblogic. But we see no trace of that EJB on our distant server. It is fully reproducible, since everytime we launch it, we get that error.
If anybody has a lead, or at least a clue, I take it.

    My guess -
    1) Networking issue
    2) A long transaction(could be global or your EJB transaction) that you do really need more than 10 mins to finish it.
I would check netstat output for 1) and time the EJB transaction.
If your server is not hang and still accepting request, you can actually ignore it. Or you can tune stuck thread max time higher(longer time allow for stuck warning) so this message will stop bugging.

Hi, we need to create the test environment from our production for oracle AP Imaging. we have soa, ipm, ucm and capture managed servers in our weblogic..
Can anyone tell me what is the best way to cloning the application from different environment, the test and production are in different physical server.
Can I just tar the weblogic file system and untar it to the new server and make the necessary changes?
Can anyone share their experiences and how to with me?
    Thank in advance.
    Katherine

    Hi Katherine,
yes and no . You need as well weblogic + soa files as the database schemas (soa_infra, mds...).
Please refer to the AMIS Blog: https://technology.amis.nl/2011/08/11/clone-your-oracle-fmw-soa-suite-11g/

  • Concurrent Users for BODS designer in TEST environment

    All,
May I know the best practices for BODS testing ? Would you please share any weblinks for BODS/ETL testing related information ?
We wanted to access the designer/master/local repository by multi testers in TEST environment. What is typical practice ?
Does the tester need access to deisgner ? if so, what are main points to be checked/tested in a job design/execution in DS designer?
    Thanks & Regards.

    Hello
I don't think your testers should have access to the Designer in the test environment.  Why?  Because when you execute jobs in production it won't be via the Designer, so if you execute tests that way it's not a true test.  The execution mechanism (typically the built in scheduler) should be used in the test environments.
Multiple testers might require a separate local reposity and data areas, however the job server can be shared for functional testing, but not for performance testing.
Basic good practice for an organisation -
    Project manager scopes a release.
Developers code in the development enviornment.
A lead developer packages code (ATL, DDL, etc.) for release candidates.
Release team (or repsonsible lead developer) promotes code to QA
    Tests performed in QA
Release team promotes code to production.
    Notes -
Developers should only have access to the development environment (maybe readonly in QA to aid debugging)
Testers should only have access to QA
Operations should only have access to production.
It takes a bit of work to get your organisation working in this way, but its worth it.

  • SAP Licensing for a Test Environment

One of our clients has created a test environment physically seperate from the Production environment (That is on two seperate machines). All their purchased SAP B1 licenses are being used in the production system. If you select additional licenses, they are only temporary and expire in 14 days from creation.
How do you get valid licenses into the Test Environment that will always be active without having to reduce the licenses that are allocated to the Production system?

Thank you all for your helpful answers.
I understand about creating a test database in the Production system and it use of the same License Manager
However this does not work if you are trying to test patches or major release upgrades because once you apply the upgrade / patch to the test database in the production environment the code base is now changed and the production database would then be updated.
In order to isolate the test of upgrades, patch levels, major functionality etc., you need to build a separate environment on different hardware to do the testing. That is what we have done.
Since the license server is not shared the separate test environment needs to have a license file that reflects its hardware key.
When I go to create that license file and I specify "Test System" for the system, the license file is only created with temporary licenses which inactivate in 14 days.
I need to know if there is a way to create the license file without the licenses being inactivated and without reducing the number of licenses available to the Production System.
