Apply Actuals vs Update Progress

Hi! Can someone explain the differences between the Apply Actuals and Update Progress functions in P6 PPM? Why would I use one over the other? Thanks!

Apply actual uses time sheet i.e via progress reporter
and Update progress is automatic update method with the help of progress spotlight.

    If you are using time sheet( progress reporter) than only use apply actual's. Otherwise update the project progress manually.
    My suggestion is take a back up copy of the project so that when ever you will encounter such kind of issue than it will help you.
    Remove and the actual's under status and  You need to reschedule the project from the start date.

    I used the Update Progress option and my highlighted activities did not get actualized automatically as it happens when you use the same option in P3. Can anyone tell me if this option in P6 requires any other step or if something else needs to be configured? Thank you in advance.

    Thanks for the reply. My data date was January 15, then I dragged it to January 31, so all the activities that fall within that range are highlighted, then I applied "Update Progress" (same procedure as in P3). However, the activities did not get actualizaed automatically as it happens in P3 when you do the same thing. Am I missing any other step?

    Bit of advice on applying actual's.
    We use weekly Timesheets to collect actual's and have weekly financial periods. The check-box which gives users the ability to book after an activity has finished is unchecked meaning they cannot book time
    However, a number of users update the timesheet with an expected finish date which is after the planned finish but before the next weekly period cut-off and prior to the timesheet submission.
    When applying actual's, can you apply them a number of times during the week to allow the timesheet to update the plans therefore revising the finish date and allow users to book time on the revised activities.
    And is the "Actual's" info as in booked hours updated each time the Actual's are applied to.

    Try keying in actual units for the resource usage and do not update the activity to an actual date.
    You can do this in the resrouces usage spreadsheet.

    Checked out that link and everything seems to be in order on this machine at this time.
    I only have CC installed on this one machine, not even my secondary machine like is permitted. it seems odd that I'm asked to re-accept the Licence Agreement as often as I am. If I had to guess, it's almost every week, if not multiple times some weeks, that all the software will decide I should have to view the licence agreement.
    Edit: I've never had any noticeable "errors" activating or anything like that. I just get asked to do it quite frequently.
    This activation screen isn't too annoying (it involves clicking one single button), but like I stated earlier, if I'm trying to launch the software by double-clicking on a PSD, AI, PPROJ, AEP, etc... that file will fail to open.
    I feel like that's probably not really a bug, but it is frustrating, since I did launch the application with the intent to edit that specific file I tried to open.
    Again, something that you guys may consider working on.
    Another annoyance is that: agreeing to the licence agreement is a per-application task, so if I see that Licence Agreement dialogue window by opening Photoshop (for example), I know that every other piece of software I have in the suite (Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, Audition) will be showing me that screen on it's next launch. Probably deliberate for legal purposes that I can't just agree once for the whole suite, but heck, it would save me a lot of minor headaches if it was a unified agreement.

    I have read the update article listed below.

    I find it confusing. I currently have the latest MSI of Adobe Reader 9.4 installed view group policy. I want to apply the latest update of 9.4.1. It sounds like I just need to apply each .msp file in order.
    I guess it will all be clear if this question can be answered.
    Do the quarterly updates have anything other then all of the out of cycle patches in them?
    If they are just all of the out of cycle patches put together, then I won't be missing anything by just installing the .msp files in order. I am asking this because it says not to install quarterly updates over an .msp update.

    The document is confusing indeed. Here's what to do:
    Since you already have Adobe Reader 9.4 installed (distributed via GPO), all you need to do is create an administrative installation point (AIP) for version 9.4.1 so you can deploy it to upgrade version 9.4.
    Here's an example:
    - Copy AdbeRdr940_en_US.msi (the 42MB MSI installation file) and AdbeRdrUpd941_all_incr.msp (the 3.24MB patch) to C:\Temp folder
    - Create a new subfolder under C:\Temp folder (let's call it AdbeRdr941)
    - Run this command:
    msiexec /a C:\Temp\AdbeRdr940_en_US.msi
    - When prompted, specify target drive C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941
    - When the above process completes, run the following command to slipstream version 9.4.1 into 9.4.0:
    msiexec /a C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941\AdbeRdr940_en_US.msi /p C:\Temp\AdbeRdrUpd941_all_incr.msp
    Note: the above AdbeRdr940_en_US.msi in folder C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941 file size is about 3.8MB
    - When prompted, once again the target is C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941
    When the process completes, copy C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941 folder to a shared network folder and create a new GPO to distribute the new version. Hope that helps.

  • 10.7.5 update progress bar "upgrading iCal calendars"

    I completed the 10.7.5 update on my MacBook Pro (2011) about ten minutes ago. Since then, after opening iCal, the progress bar "upgrading iCal calendars" has been sitting here. I do have a lot of historical calendar data, going back to 2003. Has anyone else had this problem? Will it finish if I let it go, or are my calendars already corrupt?
    I'm worried because I've had bluetooth/external speaker audio issues, followed some directions, tried to boot into safe mode, and wasn't able to (left the machine for 3 hours, progress bar stuck at about 25%).

    After an hour, I tried to quit iCalendar. It was "application not responding," so I force quit, and got back in. In the title bar, it said it was updating, for maybe 45 seconds. Now it's fine and my historical data (stored locally) is there.
    I upgraded another machine, and the Updating progress dialog box appeared for less than a minute and then was fine.
    There's probably something underlying that's wrong with my main machine. Guess I'd better get on with cleaning up.

  • Problems after applying latest Airport update.

    I have a core duo macbook and was able to maintain a connection to my wpa secured wireless network before running software update a few days ago. After doing so, I can't maintain a connection. It simply stops working.
    I disconnect, reconnect, and os x says there was a problem connecting to my network. I turn airport off then back on and still get the same error.
    I am still able to sign onto other networks. My ibook and powerbook have no trouble connecting and maintaining a connection to my wpa secured network when my mac book is having trouble. I have not applied any software updates to those recently.
    After rebooting the macbook, I can connect just fine. This happens once every 3 hours or so and is driving me nuts. Anyone know how to rollback the update or know what might be wrong?

    i have the same problem after the update. i see some members on the forums suggesting to turn off the wifi security helps, but who wants to give free wifi to there neighbors. with my situation, my router has a settings for "WPA-AES" or "WPA-TKIP." i had my router set for "WPA-AES" before the update, things works fine, after the update i tried to delete the key chain entries of my wifi connection and the preferred network list, which didn't help, but changing my router to be "WPA-TKIP" helped. my connection works normally again, i can reboot, put the macbook to sleep and it reconnects fine.
    hope this might work for you if you have this "TKIP" setting for you wifi router. i have a buffalo WZR-RS-G54 router, btw.

    What you are seeing is called “Retained logic”. It means that started activities are maintaining their relationship logic with their predecessors. In your schedule below you can see that the gap in your second structures activity is the same as the remaining work in the first activity, I assume the first is a predecessor of the second.
    The second activty is still behaving as a FS relationship, it cant start until the first activity is completely done (not just started). Thus it gets pushed out.
    You can fix this in a couple ways.
    Change the link between the two activities from FS to SS and reschedule
    Break the link between the two activites and reschedule
    Change you scheduling “Mode” by hitting F9, Options, “When scheduling progressed activities use”, Progress Override.
    I recommend the first option.

    Hey there Tonyaokb,
    It sounds like you are trying to update some of your apps and when you tap the update button, the update does not happen. I recommend starting by closing the running apps on the phone:
    iOS: Force an app to close

    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it.
    When you have done that, sign out of your iTunes account in Settings > iTunes and App Stores, and restart the phone and try to update them again:

    If the issue persists I would next verify that you can find it in your purchased history with ths article:
    Tap App Store.
    Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
    Tap Updates.
    Tap Purchased on the resulting screen.
    So that you can then delete the app and re install it:
    Reinstall the affected app
    Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
    Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-left corner of the app.
    Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
    Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
    Press the Home button.
    Go to the App Store.
    Search for the app and download it again.
    Note: If it's a paid app, make sure you're using the iTunes account you purchased the app with originally. If it isn't, you may be asked to purchase the app again. Learn more about downloading previously purchased items.

  • Is it safe to re-apply a combo update?

    Had flaky problems with my dual 1.8 G5 a couple days ago, and wound up doing an archive and install of Leopard from my 10.5.4 disk. When I applied the 10.5.8 combo update, the installation hung for a very long time, such that I used the power button to shut down.
    When I re-booted, it showed that 10.5.8 was installed, but there are a few gremlins such as my Canon scanner not loading (even after downloading the driver and software).
    I'm thinking that perhaps every last bit of 10.5.8 wasn't installed.
    Can I re-apply the combo update and if so should I first trash the Library > Updates > Combo Update folder?

    Yes, it's completely safe. Let it finish this time. It's known to appear to hang at the end, but it's still installing. Since you interrupted it the first time around, I would first verify the drive in Disk Utility, though.

    Keep the .dmg and just reuse it. I like to apply OS updates booted in Safe Mode. Hold the shift key down at start up.

    Hello,
    I am using responsibility based security. There is no function called "Mass Update".
    The Mass Update Program is added from Lookup sets which is a system lookup set, we cannot edit a system lookup set.
    I tried creating a user lookup with the same values and disabled the "Mass update Progress" option, but i'm not sure how to link the new user lookup to the workplan actions so that this new lookup overwrites the existing system lookup.
