Apply After Effects presets
Please fix the path in Bridge so .ffx presets can still be applied to After Effects. I use AECS3 & upgraded Web Premium to CS4. I have to use Bridge CS3 to Browse & apply presets to AECS3 layers.
I can browse the presets in Bridge CS4 by saving the presets folder as a favorite, but applying them doesn't work.
Backwards-compatibility please as my After Effects was purchased as a standalone product.
Yes, you can apply animation presets. You just can't do it through Bridge. See this thread:

Uhm i have have a question: I just made a new admin account on Mac OSX. But after i did that, i tried opening After Effects and got something about license and restart, so i restarted. But it didn't work, so i reinstalled After Effects and i could open it as normal. BUT now i can't find the Presets folder in /Applications/After Effects/. I tried looking in documents but didn't find an adobe folder there either. I REALLY need a Presets folder so that i can add my VideoCoPilot .ffx files in there. PLEASE HELP
I don't actually know if i did a correct uninstall. I just double clicked the "Uninstall" and wrote in my Username and Password. Then it didn't like start opening a script or something, so i just restarted my computer, and when i looked in /Programs, After Effects wern't there. Another thing that is killing me is that if i go into After Effects and go to Effects and Presets and right-click and select "Browse Effects and Presets" or something, it don't open Bridge and let's me find text effects. Now after i tried looking in the directories and if it isn't another way i'll have to format my harddrive. That's how important my After Effects Presets are. :/

I am trying to add an animation preset to some text in AE but it gives an error message saying the preset files are not compatible. I am browsing the presets in Bridge and trying to initiate them from there but I also tried to access them straight from AE but the result was the same. Anyone have any thoughts on how to rectify this or know of a patch file or similar that I need to install? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm a student and the project I am working on is due in a few days.
Make sure that your text layer is selected in the timeline and the CTI is set to where you want the effect to begin. Then browse animation presets or pick an animation preset from the Effects and Presets Panel. Double click in Bridge to apply the preset. Double click in the Effects and Presets Panel or drag the preset to the text layer to apply.
If you have no text layer selected in the Timeline, double clicking a Text Animation Preset will give you a new text layer with the default Adobe After Effects text. If you have a shape layer or another footage layer nothing will happen.
If none of these techniques make sure that you're running the latest updates, and that you've reset your preferences. Only a few of the presets will generate an incompatible file error when the wrong type of layer is selected. -
Having problems with After Effects preset
When I want to use the presets I always get an error message, an example is when I wanted to use a text "animate in" preset and got the following error message:
After Effects error: Can't import file "Fly In From Bottom.ffx": unsupported filetype or extension. ( 0 :: 1 )It use to work in the past, I use the text tool type and then go to Animation - Browse Presets, Opens up in Bridge and I select the Animation In or Out and double click on the preset I want and then I get an error message similar to my original posting. Its all of the presets, I played around with 60% of them including the background and so forth and keep on getting error message

After effects & Adobe Bridge preview Issue *freezing*
Hello all,
I wanted to begin learning After Effects CS4, unfortunately Adobe Bridge CS4 is halting my education.
If I explore any kind of After effects CS4 preset, and preview it inside of Adobe bridge, my pc freezes. The preview window, within Bridge CS4 turns blank white while it freezes,
the Windows toolbar of Adobe bridge, says not responding temporarily, if a wait a little while around 30-45 seconds I regain control of my pc again, the preview box occasionally will show a still image and sometimes it will stay white or flicker. If I do wait the 30-45 seconds the toolbar window no longer says 'not responding' I can click to a (non) After effects preset folder, (for example) 'My family pictures' and it will operate normally but if I go back to the After effects CS4 presets again the freezing will occur once more.
What I find strange is that Adobe Bridge previewing, works absolutely fine for my photoshop documents, Illustrator documents, and any Jpeg photos I have, all after effect presets fail to preview, regardless of type if it's a still shape background or animated sprite, the same freeze issue occurs
I was wondering if anyone has helpful tips?
so far I have downloaded all important driver updates for my graphics card, my card is a nVidia GeForce 7900 GS 256, I have also reinstalled bridge and AfterEffects, I have downloaded all the relevent players.
I am a Windows vista user, also I have enough RAM I believe, just over 3 Giga
I dont know how useful the info is on my Pc spec is, but I thought it could be worth mentioning.
I have looked for a few hours to find some kind of thread with a similar problem I have been unsuccessful, I hope someone can help
Kindest regards JulianHi Curt y,
I do have the latest Quicktime player installed, I would'nt have have thought that would halt me previewing CS4 after effect still shapes and backgrounds? but.. I'm not to sure if I'm honest.
well I tried uninstalling and reinstalled my player still no sucess sadly.
do you know roughly what date all these old threads popped up?
I'm going to scavenge for them anyway in the the hope I find something useful. *must be positive*
thank you Curt y, for giving me some of your time.

How to remove effect presets from a clip?
I'm learning how to use Premiere Elements 8 from Adobe's official Help document.
I'm currently working through Chapter 10, "Applying effects", section "Working with effect presets" -> "Apply an effect preset".
The Help document doesn't tell how to remove an effect preset you had applied.
I've tried to follow the instructions for removing regular effects, but they don't seem to work in the case of presets.
How can i remove effect presets from a clip?I suspect it's actually a standard PE terminology that i'd better get acquainted with.
I wanted to address this part separately. Actually, "workflow" is more of a video, or at least NLE term, and is not specific to PrE.
As for terminology, this ARTICLE might prove useful.
As I attempt to point out, some of these terms might be applied slightly differently, depending on the exact program used. As a for instance, PrE 8 has moved all of the Export options to Share. I still write "Export/Share" in case a PrE 2 through 7 user reads it. Terms can change. Also, Avid might call one common operation by one name, and Final Cut Pro use a different one.
For me, I had to learn some new terms. I can from a film background. Terms were changed with video. For instance, my old Fade-to-Black is now Dip-to-Black in most NLE's. First time that I typed Fade-to-Black, everyone came back with "huh???"
I read a lot of books on general editing of both video and audio. Some authors use different programs, and though the core theories are the same, their terminology can be rooted in their program of choice.
Also, with regards to audio, many still use a lot of the terminology from the analog days, and keep them, because analog is still part of the workflow in most productions - think of the mics, for instance. There is generally less analog left in video, unless someone needs to telecine film to digital, or transfer VHS tapes to digital. More of the total workflow is all in digital, so my old film school terms have faded.
One of the things that I attempt to do is differentiate exaclty what I am talking about. If I type video, I mean video in general. If I type Video, I am talking about the video Assets in a Project. Notice that Assets is also capatilized, as that is a term from the NLE and is specific to all things, SFX, Video, Audio, etc. used. Sometimes I slip up. I use project to mean the whole thing, and Project to mean the setup in the NLE, that will result in either a .PREL, or .PRPROJ file from my Adobe editors. Does this make sense?
Good luck,

After effects cc 2014 text presets can't import from bridge cc
I'm trying to use the presets for text animation but somehow I get the message that it doesn't support this file format. How come? and how to fix?
> Any other ideas?
Note the last part of Rick's answer: You can still apply animation presets through the Effects & Presets panel in After Effects.
There is a bug in the After Effects CC 2014.1 (13.1) installer that causes the wrong startup script to be used. We're working on a fix for this now. In the meantime, you can just apply animation presets directly in After Effects. -
After Effects won't import any animation presets from Bridge.
I just installed Creative Cloud. It seems to be working fine, except that when I try to apply Animation Presets into After Effects through Bridge, it gives me an error message saying "Can't import file xxx.fxx: unsupported filtype or extension"
I'm not trying to import a "file" or anything.... simply trying to apply an animation preset to a video clip on an AE timeline. Never had any issues doing this with CS5. Anyone know what's going on?

After Effects Autoscroll - Vertical Animation Preset Issue
Hi After Effects Community,
I am hoping someone can assist me with an issue I have been unable to work out when applying the Autoscroll Vertical Animation preset in After Effects CC. I have already spent ages working way through the forums and googling topic but not quite found the answer, so here goes:
Trying to create scrolling credits for a film I am are editing. Normally, I use the titler in Premiere Pro CC for this and then use the scroll setting. This works to a point but it is very limited in terms of editing/formatting and I have been trying to create a template in After Effects where by you can simply go in and edit the text in the layers and drop the new credit roll into any project.
Taking advice from a source online (Trish Meyer I think), I created a new comp (1920 x 1080 @ 25fps and 2 mins long) and then created a precomp inside this and created all my text. I adjusted the size of this comp so that all the text layers fit onto it. This made it very long (dimensions of precomp are 1920 x 16000. Other settings matched the main composition). I then went back to my main comp and applied the Autoscroll Vertical Animation preset behaviour effect. I thought this was it as the effect did create a scroll but I found that it didn't start the roll from the beginning of my text, rather half way down, and also only scrolled so far before it stopped scrolling.
Does anyone have any advice or recommendations as to what I need to do here to create the desired effect? Ideally I need it to roll through the credit text and then slowly stop on last line of credits before fading to black. I notice that the Motion Tile section of the preset effect has numbers that are red (numbers relate to Tile Centre) and assume this links to the expression attached to this effect.
Do I need to animate the centre of the tile? I saw something online about there being a maximum number of frames the After Effects can render or something like this which is why the animation stops. I must admit I can't believe that this is such a hard thing to learn how to do as I would have thought it is a basic that most film makers would need to do at some point yet it is not well covered online in the form of tutorials etc.
Anyway, I would be so grateful if anyone is able to help. If it is easier I am willing to upload my AE project file so that people can take a closer look to see in more detail what I have tried to explain here.
Many thanks,
AlexOne way to create the correct timing is to create 2 keyframes for position that are 1 frame apart. set the y value for the second key frame to be the number of pixels per frame movement that you need (say 2 pixels). then add this expression: loopOut('continue') the movement will not happen until time hits the first keyframe, so timing can be adjusted in a more familiar way, then the code just continues that movement.
You might add this animation and expression to a null, then parent the credits to the null to make it easy to adjust the credit position separate from the animation. Also, you can split the layer at the point you want it to stop moving and undo the parent for it. -
After Effects doesn't save my presets
Hello guys.
So this is the problem : i go into animation presets for save my presets but AE doesn't save it
HELP
(Sorry for my English im French)"What version of After Effects? Have you installed the recent updates? What operating system? Has this ever worked before? What other software are you running? Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? Tell us about your computer hardware. And so on."
hi, it sounds like i have the same problem.
i'm running AE cs4 on windows 7 32bit (sp1). i have a lot of other software, but i'm not sure if you want everything or just what's running in the backround while i'm on AE. no other software is running while i run AE. i do have 3rd party effects. 3gb ram, intel core 2duo 1.5 GHz.
the problem is this. i highlight all the properties i wish to make an animation preset from, click save animation preset, set the save location to desktop (to ensure it isnt an administrative permission conflict), and click save. after that, no preset file is made.
i've never had a problem until now. and none of the above information about my computer has changed.
i believe the thing that could have done it is tampering with PresetEffects.xml file in support files. i made a custom effect with 6 slider controls and used script editor to apply it to a null. when i tried saving it as an animation preset, the above problem happened and i havent been able to fix it.
this was the first time i tampered with the presetEffects file. i made a backup of it before editing it at all. when i encountered the problem, i replaced the edited file with the backup..still not fixed (i resterted AE every time i made a change to the preseteffects file). i then reinstalled AE and made sure the PresetEffects file was back to it's original state. still no fix.
any ideas? -
After Effects crashing on applying Element 3D
So I just downloaded After Effects CC 2014 and transferred all my plugins to it. But all except Video Copilot Element 3D V1.6.2 are working correctly. Whenever I apply the Element effect AE crashes. I tried to reinstall it using the installer but no luck... I am on Windows 7 64 bit and am using NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti graphics card with a six core AMD FX 6300. So its probably not because my PC isn't capable enough....Please help me, I am really worried....
Thanks for your reply Todd,
when I apply Element on a layer (right after opening up after effects and making a new comp >no existing project) everything just freezes for about half a second and then I get a popup saying 'Adobe After Effects CC 2014 has stopped working' and then I have to click on 'close the program'
And yeah, also when I apply that on an existing project it works correctly also when I apply it on a new project without quitting it works fine.
also sometimes(very rarely)) when AE doesn't crash on applying Element(in a fresh project after quitting AE and restarting it) I am able to open Scene setup and use all the models I have and if I click OK and see it in the project it is there and everything works fine....and if I go back to scene setup and remove that model and then click on custom texts and masks this option also works fine (as when if AE doesnt crash everything else works fine but custom texts and masks don't work and this option crashes AE).
Thanks a lot -
how do i fix this
well it said "installaition completed through some optional components failed to install correctly (6)" then it came up with this

The XMP packet looks OK--the thumbnail is base64 encoded as it should be.
You'll have a better chance of a response if you post your question on the After Effects forum--readers there are more likely to be familiar with After Effects and Bridge.
Don't post the XMP packet text--just that you can't see After Effects thumbnails in Bridge.
