Apply an iTunes song to a slideshow

I have changed the start and stop times of a particular song in iTunes (under the Get Info/Options feature) because I don't want the whole song to play for my slideshow. But when I drag the song from the Audio list into the Slideshow slides and then play it, iDVD plays the whole song, ignoring my start and stop times. Is there a way to make this work?

In the past i have imported the song from iTunes into Garageband, shortened it to where i want and make it fade out rather than having a sudden stop. When i am finished i save it and close GB. When you are applying a song to your slideshow, you need to look under garageband instead of iTunes in the media tab and you will find the song you just created in GB. Add that song to your project and your done!

I have iPhoto 5 and the most recent iTunes. When I create add music to a slideshow, I cannot see the individual songs, just the top level places like playlists. The workaround is to put the song in the playlist, but I should be able to see the songs, right?
There is a support article which says to "have iTunes running", but I tried that and it did not work.
Is this an incompatibility with my relatively old iPhoto and my newer iTunes?

There should be a drop-down menu in the window where you can toggle from "iTunes Playlists" to "iTunes Library." See the screenshots that lori refers to in this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3836266&#3836266

How do I use only a portion of a song in my iTunes in my iPhoto slideshow?

I already tried making the song shorter in iTunes by using the start and stop options and it does indeed make the song shorter in iTunes, but when I choose the song within iPhoto, the slideshow uses the long version of the song. What do I need to do to just use like a minute of the song in the slideshow?

The settings you use to play in iTunes do not get retained in other apps. What you can do is open Garage Band, drag the song from iTunes into a GB track, then edit the song as you like. You can even adjust the fade in/out exactly to the length and duration you want. When the song is trimmed, Share to iTunes, where it will become a separate song. Select that for your slideshow, or place it in an iTunes playlist and use the playlist for your slideshow.

Go to iTunes, preferences, advanced and be sure to check "keep iTunes folder organized" and see what happens.

I set English as the first language on my Mac and don't want to set up language in English.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

slideshow preset does not display list of itunes songs for music to accompany slide show (it did use to do this perfectly satisfactorily). Clicking to open itunes does not help.

Graham, the songs that are only in iCloud will show with a cloud icon with a download link. Click this link to download the song to your mac. It will stay in iCloud as well. But the local copy should show in iPhoto. In the example below, the song "Crying in the Rain" does show in iPhoto, because it has been downloaded, but the other songs do not.

Can you access the iTunes Library in other app? IPhoto? IMovie? If not, then I'd bring that to the iTunes forum

Even though no one replied, i fixed my problem.
Don't know if it will work for anyone else with similar problem
but all I did was a CHKDSK then a defragment of my laptop and now everything seems to be working fine.

Why do I get the message: additional fees may apply when downloading songs over cellular in my itunes on my iphone 5? Plus I see the cloud icon that is either greyed out or red

I uploaded my old songs on my computer then I tried to sync them in my iphone's music library and I can't listen to the previously purchased songs... They either appear red with the cloud icon or greyed out... And I get the following message when I tap on them: additional fees may apply when downloading songs over cellular

Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.

Is there a way to rename multiple Itunes songs at the same time

Is there a fast way to rename multiple Itunes songs at once, instead of renaming one song inside Itunes at a time? For example; So I can select multiple songs at once and rename each songs Genre all at the same time? Without needing to rename song by song?

You can click on multiple songs, and change info in the Get Info > Info screen. This applies to most fields EXCEPT Name. iTunes has never allowed the simultaneous change of Name of multiple songs, presumably on the grounds that it is usually an error to do so.
Regarding Genre, yes, this can be changed for multiple songs at once, using the Info tab of Get Info.

No refresh displaying iTunes song in Final Cut Pro X anymore?

Not sure what is going on, but when I display iTunes songs in Final Cut they do not refresh when changing from folder to folder. I dont see that problem with other Apps like Garageband, iLife Sound Effects or Final Cut Pro Sound Effects, only when trying to search for songs I know exists in any of my iTunes library folders or playlists.
Im sure it has to be a problem but uncertain when it started. For example, if I am looking at the content of "Impacts & Crashes" from Final Cut Pro Sound Effects, and then select to see any of y iTunes playlists/folders I still get displayed the previous "Impacts & Crashes" content from Final Cut. The only way I can see iTunes content is if I select the main iTunes parent, there I see my whole library. But again, I can't narrow down to any of my playlists or folders.
Was this funcionality removed or is it a bug? Am I the only one with this thing going on? How can I fix it?

Ahh, figured it out - for you folks that notice the same error...
If you have iTunes in an external drive (like I do) probably the drive is sleeping. Wake it up (I doouble clicked my drive to access it). After that your iTunes lib might be accessed from Final Cut. Suppose this applies to anything else trying to import from an externally fed iTunes library.

Adding song to PSE10 Slideshow crashes program.

Very simple issue, hopefully a simple fix.
My customer had a Windows 7 C2Quad system, upgraded to a custom built AMD FX Quad system. On the old system, he had both PSE8 and PSE10 Installed. He was able to add songs from his iTunes to a PSE10 slideshow no problem.
Now with his new system, he only has PSE10 installed, and when he adds a song from iTunes to a PSE10 slideshow, it freezes and crashes.
I don't have the computer in front of me, and these are notes coming from him. Any ideas? Is there some conversion utility or codec he might be missing? When installing PSE10, it was simply installed from Disc 2(the x64 disc), and no other disc was inserted. Again, PSE8 is not installed. He is using Win7 x64.

I will forward that idea to him, thanks! The only reason I'm not sure that's going to be the reason is he said he was using the exact same files(meaning, same songs) from the old PC. The files were transferred from the old PC to the new one, but I wouldn't think that would cause any issue.

ITunes music for iPhoto Slideshow

Not able to use files from iTunes for iPhoto Slideshow. Only SAMPLE MUSIC. This is the message that I get > iTunes The song "The Sad Cafe" could not be used because the original file could not be located.

Have you checked, if the song plays correctly, when you try to play the song "The Sad Cafe" in iTunes? If you see an exclamation point besides the song, you need to reconnect that dead track to the original file. When you try to playy the song, iTunes should prompt you for the location of the song. Use the File Chooser window, that will pop up, to search for the file and select it.
Then try again to use the song in your slideshow.

Using Purchased Music from iTunes in a published slideshow

I made a slideshow on iPhoto and added a iTunes song I purchased from Apple's iTunes store. I then, published this show on my .Mac homepage, but when my family attempted to view it, they were prompted to submit a password to listen to the music. Does anyone have ideas about how to get around this issue? If this is the use policy, why would I continue to purchase music on Apple's iTunes Store if I can use it for my personal purposes.

You did not buy the song, you 'bought' the right to play that song on 5 computers at the same time.
Read this article for an explanation.
That's the deal between Apple and the right holders.
The workaround is to burn purchased tracks on Audio CD and re-import them.

On the Start menu, point to All Programs > Accessories and then right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator from the shortcut menu. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue.
In the resulting window, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Return(Enter) on the keyboard.
You should see a message that the DNS Resolver Cache has been successfully flushed.
