Apply color correction to the sequence, not clip

Is it possible to select all clips in the sequence, then apply color corrector, or brightness/contrast filter _with a specific setting_ to the whole sequence?
Currently when I select all in the sequence, apply a correction through effects > video ... etc, then change a setting, it will only change the setting one clip from the sequence.
I know it is possible to work around this and do it with one clip and then paste attributes, but if there's another way, please let me know.
Thank you!

Michel,
That's a great idea, why didn't I think of that? Thank you for your fast reply, I got it near instantly on the iPhone and was laughing at how simple and smart a solution you had!
Cheers,
Roman

  • Applying color corrections to the original video clips?

How do I apply the same colour corrections I have made to video clips in PremierPro CS5.5, to the original video clips? Is there a way to save the clips from PremierPro to apply the same changes to the original avchd clips?

You would have to export with the correction applied.
    These become "Intermediates"

Is there a recomended way to delete proxy and optimized clips once a project is completed and is ready for archive? also, can proxy and optimized clips be removed (to save space) once a project is ready for color correction and the original clips are used

No, they are NOT the same as proxy or optimized.
When you add a clip to your timeline and, say, apply an effect to it, or superimpose a title on the clip, FCP X has to make many calculations to determine what color each pixel of each frame should be. If a section of your timeline is not rendered, it has to do all these calculations every time you play those frames. A render file has the frames already "calculated", so it plays fast and smoothly.
For simple compositions and a fast computer, you may avoid rendering completely - and you may also choose to only render the portions where playback stutters.
Render files can be safely deleted. FCP X can recreate them if needed (either automatically if you have "background render" on, or on demand, when you select the "render" or "render all" commands).

  • Apply Color Correction to next clip

I'm pretty sure I was able to do this about a month ago.  I originally found how to do it in the help index, but I cannot find it now.
I'm looking to apply my color correction to the next clip in the timeline.  Just like in FCP7, you were able to apply it to the two (or one) clips behind or in front of the clip you're using the CC from.
    Thank you.

We don't have the same privelidges in this area that we enjoyed in FCP7.
The best you can do is select the corrected clip and hit Cmd+C to copy it.
Then select the clips you want to apply the same correction to and press Alt+Cmd+V to Paste Effects.
    Note:
If you already have any effects on those clips, they will be overwritten.

  • Can't see secondary color correction in the viewer! Help...

Hello, fairly new at FCPro but I am trying to isolate reds in a clip and change them to purple & orange. I am using the Color Corrector Filter and when isolating the reds and making adjustments I do not see any changes in the viewer.
The eyeball icon on the top left of the window is checked but I can't visually see any changes happening. Can someone please tell me what is going on?
    Thanks,
    Dan G

One other simple gotcha is to be color correcting but the viewer is not showing the current clip (the one you are working on...)
Thanks for posting back. Good to have closure on questions.

  • Source monitor always inserts clips at the start of the sequence, not where the CTI is.

    Hi
When inserting a clip from the source monitor by using the keyboard shortcut or just simply right clicking the video in the source monitor and then 'insert',
the clip does not place where the CTI is in the current sequence, it always places at the very beginning of the sequence. If I insert directly from the Project Panel this does not occur and the clip is correctly placed,
I've always worked with the keyboard shortcuts in premiere like this and I recently upgraded to CS5. Is this a bug or some weird new CS5 thing? Of course there are workarounds, but Im sitting here with a few thousand clips ready to be put together. Anyone else have this problem or even better have a solution for it? Help much appreciated!

To be honest I can't recall.
There were some changes/reimplementation to CS5 keystrokes & shortcuts due to popular demand.  I think CS4 removed some perfectly good ones and replaced them with diddlysquat!

  • How do I apply color correction from one clip to multiple clips?

  • Color Correction: many settings on one clip

    Hi,
Suppose I have a 10 mns clip containing 15 different scenes. I need a different color correction setting on each scene.  I am about to break the clip into 15 individual scenes and apply individual CC on each. Is there another way to do this, like for exemple a keyframe that would instantly change a CC setting ?
    Thanks,
    Michel

    Hi Jeff,
seems to do the trick !  take some time getting used to, though.  The additionnal problem is the source material I have: original 8mm films with multiple scene changes, but being film, the first frames are always overexposed compared to the rest of the shot. So using the actual keyframe position  for CC can't always  be done. So...
1- I went through a roll and inserted "hold" keyframes at every cut
2- I added a reference monitor that I unlocked from the original program monitor
    3- Go to a keyframe
4-Position the reference monitor between two keyframes to the frame that represent the section.
5- Play with the CC until the ref monitor look good
    6 - Repeat at will.
I tried it once and it seems to work fine: I get to have various timing on the same clip.  Mr Hunt solution is a lot simpler and straightforward, but I was  hesitant to cut the clip at multiple places. But it  also gives the assurance that a change on a clip will never affect the other clips (I am not used to work in keyframes).
This way of timing is closer to professionnal film to tape transfer I dabbled with on younger days.
    Thanks Jeff !
Back to work.  I have 2 hours of the stuff to time :-)

  • Apply color correction to all footage by changing one color?

    Hello everybody,
I have two versions of the same footage which I want to synchronize and make one video out of them. By masking, I've put one on top of the other and I'm synching the footage, but the colors are slightly different in the bottom one (a bit brighter). I've tried to correct it using several filters, but even though I get some really good results changing the values (I'm using Brightness and Contrast right now, but I've also tried Color Correction, HLS, Hue/Saturation...) they're not as good as I'd like.
In several moments, for example, the sky appears, in both layers at the same time. Is there any way I can make the bottom layer correct the sky color into exactly the one in the top layer, so the changes I make in the HLS of that color apply to all footage? That way the color changes would be perfect.
Maybe this is easy to do, but I'm a beginner at After Effects so I don't really know how to do it. Online tutorials don't seem to help much either.
    Thanks!

I've been using the re:Match plug-in for similar tasks with success. It costs $90 but there is a demo version you can try out:
    http://www.revisionfx.com/products/rematch/
and also a tutorial from Andrew Devin:
    http://library.creativecow.net/devis_andrew/AE_RE-Match/1
You can also match footage in Speedgrade, but I haven't tried that feature yet.

  • Needing to color correct a bunch of blue clips!

I recently did a shoot and the other shooter I hired gave me a bunch of blue video. What is the fastest way I can color correct those clips? I used a color corrector 3 way on those clips but it didn't really take the blue out. I then copied the settings from my camera (it was a 2 camera shoot) and then pasted the attributes to the problem clips and again I didn't see much of a difference with the blue being removed. Am I doing something wrong?

Using the 3-way there is a feature...white balance. There is an eyedropper next to the HIGHLIGHTS wheel. Use that to click on something in the image that is supposed to be white. The 3-way will then adjust the settings to make that white.
Same with the LOWS. Use that eyedropper to hit something that is supposed to be black.

  • How can I see the combined result of primary and secondary color correction in the vectorscope

    Hello there,
so I can't figure out how to see the combined result of all the color correction I did on a shot. If I click on each individual layer (primary or each individual secondary) I can see the result of each one individually on the vectorscope, but I want to be able to see the final result of all the layers combined.  Is this possible within speedgrade?
thanks in advance for the help
    Luc

Occasionally SpeedGrade seems to forget itself or something. It's kinda weird/funny, but ... on occasions I have been working and say one tab just stopped responding when I clicked on it, but everything else was fine. Shut it down, come back into it ... all is righteous. Thankfully I've not had some of the major bonkers-responses some clearly have. I'm sure that will come also. This is an incredibly complicated and complex program under the hood, of course. But all in all ... I do love working in it.
When I have the excuse to do so ...

  • Colored blocks on the bottom of clips

Can anyone tell me what the colored blocks are at the bottom of these clips? I didn't import the clips so can't give you any information on what it was shot on or how it was imported but it was an HD tapeless camera.
    Any suggestions?

This looks like overscan, which is a portion of the video image that is normally not visible on a display.  You can crop it out if necessary.
The background explanation is that the full image as it appears visually on a TV is actually not the full video image.  There is a portion of the image, on the edges, that is normally hidden by the bezel of the TV.  This area is called the overscan area.  Sometimes the overscan area is used to convey extra data; sometimes it shows up in video that is transferred from one device to another.  In my experience it most often shows up in analog video that is digitized.
You could just go ahead and edit as is (or at least a test portion) and see if it is still visible in the final video (that is, after being exported from FCE).  If it's still visible, you might consider cropping it out.
It would help to know exactly what the origin of the video is and anything that may have been done to the video before you got it.  Also, what your sequence settings are.

  • Work Flow with FCP and color correction

I am looking for a decent workflow between FCP and motion when I need to apply color correction to the clips.
I have a goup of clips in FCP that I would like to send to motion, animate them and send them back to FCP. Problem is I want to use FCP for the color correction- nicer than motion's. The, all bad options I have come up with are:
    1. color correct in FCP and then send to Motion- will not work because filters are not applied in send.
    2. Export the clips as one QT self containned movie- I lose the clip partitioning.
    3. Exports individual clips to QT then into Motion- I lose the clip ordering
    4. Color correct after I get back into FCP from Motion- clip boundaries are lost making applying color correction harder.
    Any ideas?
    Rick

I've done this two ways - both variations on the methods you have outlined. First and simplest and one I used last week on a PSP project was to apply the color correction to the Motion clip (.motn file) after it came back from Motion. This is simple and easy, but if you've done titling, you may not want to color correct that.
The second is as you said to render and export a self contained movie, then import it and copy it onto the timeline above the original clip that produced it, thus (at least organizationally) maintaining a connection between them. I then send the quicktime to Motion.
Sorry I cannot think of another better way of doing it...

  • Color Correction Workflow Question

If I am color correcting on the "original clip" - and then pulling that color corrected "original clip" into its own "clip sequence" that I then pull into a "master sequence", along with all the other "clip sequences" that make up my edit, and I am trimming those "clip sequences" to get just the snippet I need...
Is that creating a longer rendering time than if I...
Do not color correct on the actual "original clip" - still put the "original clip" into its own "clip sequence" - trim and resize that "clip sequence" to just the snippet I need, and then do the color correcting on that "clip sequence" instead of the "original clip" itself?
I'm hoping there is no descernable difference in the approach, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
    Thanks.

    Good enough for me.
BTW Jim the workflow set-up you held my hand through (http://forums.adobe.com/message/5522489#5522489) is what I'm utilizing here - so far it has truly changed the way I approach everything for the better.

  • How to batch process (color correct) multiple MXF files?

Newb here with a question I cannot find an answer for. I'm very new to CS5.5 and am very frustrated with something that should be a simple procedure, at least it was with my last NLE.
I am shooting amateur hockey games using a Canon XF100. Typically I shoot at 720 60p and with all the starts and stops of the game there may be 30-40 MFX files for a game. I'm having no problems importing into CS5.5, the files all show up on the timeline.
I want (need) to be able to color correct ALL these files at once using the fast color corrector and/or the 3 way color balance. For the life of me I cannot seem to do this and I cannot find any answers despite many hours of searches.
Last night I did (after much mucking around) manage to 'nest' the files and do the color correction but when I went to export to Media Encoder (to render as MP4 file) I kept getting error messages and was unable to proceed. This happened 6 times, the encoding would start and then after about 20 minutes, and some progress, it would give me an error message.
Can someone please, pretty please!, explain a simpler way to do this? I feel like I am missing a very obvious step and I'm probably just phrasing the question incorrectly.
    Many thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, you're doing it exactly in the right way. I just nested a sequence and applied the Fast Color Corrector to the nest and it exported beautifully. Could you try nesting and color correcting a short sequence with clips other than the MXF files generated by the Canon XF100 using the same methodology? I'm trying to see if it's your footage is the issue or something else.
